We came for lunch, sliding into the booth with barely 55 minutes left before closing. Hub ordered the fried cod sandwich with a side salad, I ordered the chicken fried steak sandwich sided with fries. Both came out of the tiny kitchen hot and crispy and perfectly cooked. The fries were crunchy and golden, the salad, simple and fresh. The tab came to just shy of $22 after tax and before tip. What more could you ask of a diner? If you like breakfast early in the morning this was my favorite place at 5AM I believe they're open until 10 AM, let's get to the food it's amazing the portions are extremely large with a 3*star cost but it's well worth it. If their food doesn't satisfy you and stuff your guts placing you in a food coma, you might pass out in your recliner as soon as you get home. Then go eat McDonald's garbage!!! This is a great greasy spoon located in Poulsbo. While the food and service is good, I am up rating it to five stars. The Junction Diner is the only place open at 5 AM in the area. (Shari's in Silverdale is but I would rather eat at a gas station than there.) The food is good and they will prepare it any way you prefer. Today was my second trip to The Junction Diner and I couldn't wait to get here today! I took a plane, a train, a ferry and a car just to get here!! I dined alone the first time on a drive from Seattle to Sequim to see mom and loved it. Today I brought Mom with me and she loved it as much as I did! I was nervous because it was getting close to 3pm (closing time) and I was afraid I wouldn't make it but I did! I tried the corned beef hash upon the recommendation of the cook. I asked a couple qualifying questions and he assured me that it was home made and NOT from a can (Alpo as he called the canned stuff). Well, Ged wasn't kidding! this may have been the best I've had. EVER! Big chunks of corned beef with onions and potatoes in a hash that was more than enough to satisfy even the biggest appetite! It came with two eggs that I ordered over medium and that's exactly how they were delivered. The toast was fresh and had plenty butter on it. Drink refills came before the glass went empty (always a good thing). Pepsi products which is sad for me but they do have Diet Dr. Pepper which is nice so I was saved! I loved my food and was so hungry that I forgot to get a Yelp photo.... fail. Mom ordered the mushroom omelet with cheddar and really liked it. They come with three eggs but mom being a light eater ordered it with only two. Now did they decrease the fillings in accordance with the number of eggs?? NO!! One less egg and a pot load of mushrooms and cheese. Not something I would normally order but since I'm out of town and I love to try new things I gave it a couple bites when Mom was done. WOW! I'd order this for myself. It was really good!! I tried the hash browns even though I was stuffed just so I could review them and they were excellent. We've passed by this diner multiple times and finally decided to try it about 4 days ago. My wife, my daughter, and I had nothing nice to say about the food, although the service was okay. We wanted to try this place considering the great reviews and ratings on here, but we feel like these ratings are super inflated and undeserved. My wife and I both ordered the biscuits and gravy (she got links, I got sausage patties for my protein) and my daughter got the French toast. My sausage patties were over seasoned and burnt/scorched, my wife's sausage links were also over seasoned, and both of our gravies were super watery. A good gravy is never watery since all it takes is butter, flour, and maybe a little stock. It tasted like they used canned cream of mushroom soup to make the gravy which I find super lazy and not as delicious as freshly made gravy. The biscuits themselves were definitely store bought and burnt as well. Almost nothing we had on our plates was freshly made in restaurant. My daughter said her French toast was way too sugary, which to me if a child says that it truly must've been way too sugary. Again, the ratings are inflated, and I'm not writing this to ruin anybody especially since things have been super hard due to covid, but I felt like the truth needed to be said with all of these overly gracious ratings. read more

Honestly my favorite diner in Poulsbo, but not the best at anything. The space is very small, and the locals that come most often are the poorest and most conservative in Poulsbo, with MAGA hats and all. I think they come here because they are too racist to eat at the Mexican restaurant because they seem to hate eating here too. I do not know why though... the food is delicious, consistent, affordable, and even quick, once you get a spot. The menu covers all four bases, they try to take special orders, and the staff is well mannered. Maybe this is the only place they eat, I could understand why, it's great. Maybe they were only grumpy because I came in and had an ill cut jib. I should give it 3 stars, but it really is my favorite, it has that style. I like the prices, and the location is short on options. This place is ghetto-fabulous! A REAL dive, hole-in-the-wall GEM. It only has 3 tables and 9? bar stools You have to go outside to get to the bathroom (no not an outhouse) Your juice comes in frosty mismatched Tupperware mug You can see the cook in the back using a four burner ELECTRIC stove and a 4-slice toaster Oh yeah and that juice comes from a plastic pitcher out of an Whirlpool fridge behind the counter And if smoking were still legal you'd probably find grandma at the end of the bar with pink curlers in her hair and a cigarette hanging out of her mouth!! AND I LOVE IT!!!! Last of the true dives. It has a yellowed newspaper article on the wall calling it a landmark and usually a line going out the door. I never have been able to make it for lunch but there are old fashioned things as Rubens and Monte Christos and malts. (No dinner). I usually make it for god-please-cure-my-hangover breakfasts with friends. I get the HALF order chicken fried steak (made the mistake of ordering the whole the first time). HBs, 1 egg, 1 toast but I swear the steak is like a pound with a cup of sausage packed gravy. Last time my friend had the blueberry pancake that I swear was a foot in diameter and each bite had like 5 blueberries! Oh yeah and did I say cheap? I found out about this place from Darryl & Jody Smith at Bird's Eye View Bed & Breakfast, our favorite B&B on the Kitsap Peninsula (I reviewed it earlier). The Junction Diner really is a "local flavor" kind of place-- locals use it as a landmark, both historically and geographically, and it is a benchmark for quality & portion size for everyone who knows of it ("yeah, in X County they make them smaller than at the Diner, but not as good"). Here's why we loved it: 1. Portions are huge. The pancakes were so big they nearly eclipsed the plate they were served on. Any bigger and the syrup would run right off onto the table. My ONE sausage patty would have intimidated the largest burger patty, guaranteed. 2. Prices are small. Sure, we spent $32 for the three of us, but if we'd had the breakfast special (a HALF-order of any "classic" Diner breakfast) for $4.95 instead of a Denver omelet, a side of sausage, and two full-size Classics, we'd all have been stuffed for maybe $23 including a good tip. Even cheaper if you just drink tap water-- and up here, the tap water tastes great. 3. Service is good, and pretty fast. It is also informal. This is a DINER. It is not a slick fast-food microfactory like Chipotle or McDonald's, nor a cafeteria-style place where the food was made hours ago and just kept warm all day till you eat it. Nor is this an upscale restaurant with well-mannered and formally trained service staff. It's a young local girl who is quick at the register and knows the menu well. She can get overwhelmed when a bunch of people walk in at once (which happened soon after we arrived), but sit down & relax, you won't have to wait long. 4. The place is clean and shipshape but doesn't seem to have any intentional "decor" like some diners do: no 50's kitsch, no country ducks, no trucker paraphernalia or logging-camp or miner schwag. It's too small to fit a lot of decor anyway: there are only 3 tables and a lot of bar stools at the L-shaped bar. But the waitress was cheerful and the other patrons were friendly with each other and with us. It seems to be a favorite local nosh spot. If I lived anywhere nearby, this would be my favorite place for breakfast (they serve lunch too but not dinner), but not a favorite hang-out... I'd feel I was hogging a seat, and I don't think they have free wifi. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.) On the other hand, it is a comfy place to sit and linger over breakfast, read the morning paper (you'll find one left behind at the bar), and chat. You could order, eat & leave in less than 30 minutes (if you order something small), but why hurry? The small-town diner vibe will refresh you if you let it. read more

When I first walked into this place, I thought, wow what a dive! Place is small, not even sure if they have a public bathroom. Wasn't too impressed. Then the waitress/owner girl took our order and she is the sweetest most friendly woman. The prices were very reasonable as well. I looked in the kitchen and saw a 4 burner stove and someone washing dishes by hand in a sink. The place started to grow on me with its small friendly diner feel, then we got our breakfast. As I walked in, the regulars all turned and you can tell they were like "who are you?". The waitress was friendly and helpful when asked for a recommendation. The food deserves 2 stars and the service deserves 1 star! I went to the Junction Diner this morning after reading some good reviews. What a bad idea! At first look I got excited that I was discovering a hidden treasure in Poulsbo. It was just me and my nine month old baby. I walked in the front door and smiled at the staff and other patrons. They stared me down. I was grossed out by my options for high chairs. They all were plastic and had visible dirt and food on them. I grabbed one with the arm that wasn't holding my baby. Then the waitress came over (never said hi) and said, "we have one with a lid!" She was referring to the booster seats. By lid she meant tray. I politely declined saying that we were fine with the one I picked. I silently cringed that she offered me the seat with big chunks of egg and bread on it. There are three tables. One was occupied, one had sugar and coffee spilled on it, the other had people leave just as I was arriving. The waitress bussed the table of those who had just left instead of cleaning the already clear table. So I sat at the spilled coffee table. I wiped it clean then ordered biscuits and gravy because someone here on yelp said they were good. The biscuits and gravy were so bad. I ate them slowly anyway. I got an egg for my baby. The waitress came to check on us once and tried to take my plate away when I had only eaten 1 out of two biscuits! I still had my fork in my hand! Whyyyy would you do that stupid waitress? I had to sit through gross construction guys in the booth next to ours show each other photos of naked women on their cell phones. And a loud misogynistic woman complain that there are more women than men in the world. Been meaning to try this place for months since moving to Poulsbo and finally got the chance a few days ago. This place is totally what you would expect from an old-school American diner, which I liked. I ordered a two-egg omelette with bacon and American cheese that comes with toast and hash browns. Omelette was tasty and hash browns were good. The waitress accidently gave my toast to another customer and I guess forgot to order another one for me, so I never got my toast *sad face* - but in the end, the lady took $1 off my order for the mistake. This has to be the most fun place to have breakfast in all of Kitsap County! The food was great, the service was perfect and the atmosphere was unbeatable! I love breakfast. It's probably my favorite meal of the day. We left our old breakfast joint behind when we moved, so I was excited, yet nervous to find one as good as our last. This place is awesome. The coffee was delicious. The food was served in big portions at a wonderful price. The buttermilk pancakes melted in my mouth and he bacon was crispy and full of flavor.
