We've come in three times now since we got snowed down and we have not been disappointed yet. Everyone here is very nice and the food is delicious! We have had their veggie omelet, chicken fried steak, biscuits and gravy, corned beef hash, sweet potato fries, fried zucchini, their sampler platter, Mexican meatball soup, and their double and triple breakfast platters. All worth having again! We love the chill vibes and the hometown feel. It's pretty cool that it's connected to a gift shop and a casino with bar. It's worth a visit between California and Nevada up north. The only issue is that there's a hint of tobacco smoke smell lingering because of the casino. read more

A must-visit if crossing the Nevada California border on the Three Flag Highway (395). This is the classic mid century roadside cafe, complete with shellacked cedar walls, solid real white oak hardwood floors, 1950s booths and counter service and every thing from chili cheese dogs to Asian chicken salad to spaghetti to fancy daily specials all at prices less than half those of the Reno casino restaurants. Stop here for dinner or breakfast, heck stop for lunch or just a coffee. Food was very good and the chef and kitchen crew pumps em out quick. The staff is so sweet and attentive. Elva was the best server. Regulars came in while I was there and were very happy to see her. You pay up front... in case you sit there for a while. It is definately smoky, be prepared. The place reeks of tobacco smoke! If you get there a little bit late, like at seven pm, they won't even let you sit in the very back so you can stay away from the stink. The response they tell you is that it is a casino so you might as well get used to it. I think the place is unacceptable. They have good food though, but the stink ruins it. I went there on a Thursday night for corn beef and cabbage absolutely outstanding cooked to perfection. And the portion could've fed two people, but it was so good I ate everything. Service was spot on and had to save room for a little bite of blueberry pie also very good. The restaurant is semi removed from the casino itself, so it has its own little bit of charm. This is a review for the Kafana restaurant ... strange name, I have no idea where it's from. A lot of the restaurant food reviews end up on the Bordertown Casino listing, so I'll post on both. I'm traveling south down the 395 from Susanville and I hit the Nevada border. I've heard about this Monte Cristo Sandwich they have here at the Kalafa Restaurant here inside the Bordertown Casino. I'm always on the lookout for a good properly done Monte Cristo, and that means battered and deep fried after the sandwich is assembled, too many places skip the deep frying and just give you toast. Exit off the freeway is easy and we pull into the Casino. Parking isn't bad and the restrooms are right as you enter, so that's convenient. We're seated in a nice cozy booth. Looking over the menu I see the Monte Cristo described as a ham, turkey, & Swiss cheese sandwich battered & deep fried - ($13.99). It comes with choice of potato, fries or, hash browns. We both order the Monte Cristo sandwich with hashbrowns. The food arrives quickly, but the first thing I notice is the hash browns are a little pale and not very browned. I guess that's how they do them here, so if you want more crispy golden brown you have to ask. Mine got sent back to get more cooked. After my hashbrowns were browned more , they were crispy and tasty. The sandwich comes with this strawberry syrup stuff that's way super tasty. The batter is pretty thick on this version of the Monte Cristo and you need to use a fork and knife, instead of just picking the thing up with your hands. I'll say, it's is one of the better versions I've had. Good filling of ham and turkey with Swiss cheese melted inside. The batter is a bit too thick for my liking, but I still enjoyed my sandwich. In fact it's so filling, that I took half the sandwich to go in a box. In my pics, the batter is so thick , it's hard to tell that's a sandwich under that deep fried batter. The food and service seem pretty good here at Bordertown, and I'd stop in here again on my travels up and down the 395. read more

Two steak sandwiches and a patty melt was ordered to go. Steaks turned out good. The patty melt was not a patty melt. It had grilled onions, lettuce, tomato and pickles with thousand Island dressing with no cheese on a type of white bread with cheese I crusted on it. This was an hour ago. So not busy. This place is great! If I could give MORE stars I would. We live here in Cold Springs and we go quite often, the food is great and prices are wonderful. When I don't feel like cooking my family always says let's go! The people and service is great too which nowadays it's really hard to find this. We often go up just for dessert also. Homemade is always better and this place has it down... truth be told I've never ordered the Mexican but my kids have and says it was ok but all else is wonderful ! read more

We headed to The Kafana Cafe, located inside Bordertown to have breakfast/lunch. When we arrived, the restaurant was fairly crowded but the hostess managed to find a booth for our party of four. One of our two servers: Katrina soon appeared to take our drink orders and informed us that our server, Rachel will be by to take our food orders, and Rachel appeared soon after. Our entrees arrived in timely manner and most of it was devoured with relish because all the food was expertly prepared: well seasoned and cooked to perfection. Our two servers Rachel and Katrina checked in on our party frequently and earnestly asked if we needed anything. Their professionalism and genuine friendliness almost moved me to tears because I didn't think this quality of customer service still existed. A very heartfelt kudos to these two ladies, they are an exemplary example of wonderful customer service that keeps people like me patronizing business like this who makes our business and customers like us feel appreciated. It's been a long time but worth the visit once again. Now that you can sit and eat this was a great time to experience a place that just feels like a hometown diner where people know you even if they are new. My go to was the Bordertown Burger and it was cooked to perfection at medium. Bacon was crisp, cheese melted nicely, and the veggies were fresh. If you love onion rings, prepare to be amazed. Unlike other places you pay $5 or more and get 8-pieces... YOU GET A BASKET sand worthy of sharing because there are so many! Their specials may be iffy though but they offer something different daily so do give them a try. read more

This restaurant is actually NOT located where it is shown on the map in Yelp. And I saw NO SIGN for Kafana anywhere except inside the restaurant. This restaurant is actually THE restaurant located INSIDE the Bordertown casino. So rather than two restaurants in this area I'm thinking there is only THIS restaurant INSIDE the casino. I was starving when we showed up here. Unfortunately it was at a time when there was quite a bit of cigarette smoke wafting in from the casino. So we couldn't eat here. Very disappointing because the MENU looked really good and people seemed to be enjoying their food. I'm posting more pics so you can see the menu variety. I'd say if the smoke is ok for you, there is a great variety of good looking food on the menu. Travelers in a group will find something for everyone. If the restaurant could be glassed off from the smoky casino I think this would be a great 5 star stop. Between the sun and lighting glare I hope these pictures still help. Somehow, someway the food and service has stayed consistent since before COVID. A Bordertown stopover is a rite of passage for anyone living in the North Valley. Still has the old school vibe because this place is one of the true local watering holes left in Reno. read more

When I was a kid, our go to was the sandwiches. They're great, but my go to as an adult is the breakfast skillet, whether it's breakfast, lunch, or dinner! It's the perfect amount of hashbrowns, eggs, sausage, ham, and bacon. You can't leave out the two pieces of toast on the side either. It's just not complete without the toast. The breakfast skillet is usually served with cheese, lots and lots of cheese on top, but I prefer it without. They're great about that, some places won't do it without cheese. Even getting it as takeout, it turned out perfectly. If you go to Bordertown, I highly recommend this! I didn't get one today, but I highly recommend their milkshakes as well. Eating there is like eating at home, without the home. I can't wait until we can eat in again, but I am more than willing to wait until it is safe. read more

Pre-COVID, Border Town had some delicious eats. Today, they have lost their way. Ordered a chicken fried steak to go, since they no longer do dining at the bar, which is a shame, since I used to love stopping in for a quick dinner and gambling (most other bars still offer this service). Anyway when I got home I opened the container to find a chicken fried steak on top of a piece of paper with white gravy and mashed potatoes with brown gravy?!?! Weird, two different gravy's? As I cut the steak, the paper would break up and I got to eat steak and bits of paper. Not a pleasant experience! And then the fact that the cook used two different gravy's is strange. The steak and white gravy was okay, but the brown gravy was not good and I did not enjoy the extra fiber from the paper. read more

I've lived in Reno for nearly 20 years but had never been to Bordentown. On a whim, my husband and I popped in for brunch. It was super cute and quaint. They sat us immediately and were on top of takeout order and with refills throughout our visit. The prices were lower than most in the area and it was delicious! I got an omelet and a bloody Mary, and my husband got their Bordentown burger. He actually said, "This is the best burger." (He's had a lot of burgers in his day). The food was hot and delicious, and the service was prompt and friendly; what more could you want? read more

Honestly, this place exceeded my expectations. We recently moved to Cold Springs and wanted to check out the local haunts. We checked it out here, and we will definitely be back. The prices are affordable, the service and fantastic, and the food is pretty good. I had the chicken sandwich, and that was the only thing about the experience that I didn't find very good - probably won't order that one again. My boyfriend got a steak and loved it. The caesar salad we shared as an appetizer was great, and came with two warm slices of garlic bread - excellent. The sweet potato fries were the star of the show for me - the waitress brought honey for dipping (you must try it) and even made us her own concoction of horseradish and orange marmalade to dip the sweet potato fries in - this was so good, and it was so nice of her to take the time to make us a dipping sauce that she thought we would like. I can't say enough good things about the BLUEBERRY PIE though!!! So delicious, warm, and served with a hefty scoop of vanilla bean ice cream (yes, we ordered a la mode). All in all, very good experience and great price. Dinner salad with garlic bread as an appetizer, chicken sandwich with side, new york steak with two sides, and dessert - only $60. Everything was Excellent, well made and generous portions of fries and their dessert was more then I expected. Seriously folks, order their pie with ice cream. I made a last minute reservation but they accommodated me quickly. I didn't wait more then a few minutes before the food came out. Kafana Restaurant is a traditional old time Nevada greasy spoon. An old time restaurant with specials for locals and travelers that are in and out bound on 395. It's located in the confines of the Bordertown Casino. It's quaint, cute and comfortable. A convenient gas station outside, gift shop inside and ample parking. The environment is nice and clean with pleasant servers and host people throughout. They do have soft drinks and beer for your dining pleasure but don't expect a wide selection. I was surprised to find that they carried 805 when I was there! Food Specials! Some of their specials is a cheese burger, no substitutions, for $4.99! It comes with fries. It's a quarter pound patty and for the price it's decent. ------------------ Bottom Line If you're in the area, this place is worth a stop, if for nothing else, just to see what this place is. So you can tell others, yes or no. As for me, I will be coming by here again. I like the slower pace! Reminds me when I was a kid. read more
