The wife really likes this place. When I walked in I noticed they have sharks hanging from the wall and people have written all over them, pretty cool inside. When got the spicy cajun blend. Very spicy! Very thing was really good. We left full and ready for a nap. My only issue was the staff could have checked on us more. They were nice and all but waited a while for refills. Parking was ok.

The benefits lots of parking lots of space inside that's pretty much it. The downside the cost is quite high for the combo and my friend found a rock inside of his meal when we asked the server they said that it was common and that happens often. Who says that....

Wanted to give an upated review as of 08/2025. This place got a little better, but please do not order their garlic noodles. It sucks. As for the seafood boil, we got a mix of all the seasonings, medium spicy and chose the 1st combo (2 lbs shrimp 1 lb crawfish). It was enough to feed 4 girls! The spice was there and this time it wasn't super super watery. I would say there are definitely better seafood boil places like cajun bistro 7, the crab bay, and clawshack. However if you're lazy to drive to these places and kickin crab happens to be near you.... just know it wouldn't hit the same! Service was ok, we weren't really checked on too much and only had our water refilled once. The employees there didn't seem too happy to work there. It was a Friday night as well and the place was half empty. So there's your sign that it's prob not as good as other places lol

We visited on a Friday night, there's always plenty of parking, and we got seated right away. We ordered the Combo #1 with shrimp, clams, and crawfish with corn and potatoes. I enjoyed the combo but wished there was more sauce/stronger flavors in the sauce (I do enjoy the sauce more with the salt, pepper, and lemon). We also ordered the Cajun fries which were 5/5; I liked the strong flavors which paired well with the acidity of the ketchup. The garlic noodles were good and savory and had many cloves of garlic for a good balance of flavors. The staff was sort of attentive. The ambiance was chill and busy.

Still my favorite seafood boil go to when I'm back in SJ. Nothing has really changed since my last review, I still feel the same, service and all. The kicking style, with all the sauces with the combo number 1 is my go to. Coconut sea snails are so good you can't get them anywhere else. Plenty of tables to sit at, there's a couple of sinks so you don't have to go all the way to the bathroom to wash your hands. HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here.

It's closing at 10pm, but we arrived at 9pm, and we closed early because there were no customers. We drove an hour, but it'll be frozen again

I love how the garlic noodles have so many garlic chunks. Definitely get it if you love garlic! We got the combo #1 ($60) to share between 2 ppl and it was the perfect amount of food with some leftover. Surprisingly a lot of seating/no wait and a nice place for a last minute dinner

Spoiled bag of crawfish. Most likely dead before cooking

Sad because this was once my favorite spot to order (what's advertised as) live crawfish. Today I put in an order and received a bag full of spoiled dead crawfish. I was instantly put off by the grey green color and cleanliness with the crawfish. I gave it a taste and was met with a strong ammonia flavor that filled my mouth . I opened a few more for good measure and all of them are grey green and mushy. The crawfish were definitely rancid and I'm sad that the restaurant felt it was a wise idea to serve this to their DoorDash customers.

Sauce is too watery to coat the seafood. Lacks flavor. This location is not as good as the So Cal locations. Garlic butter sauce has so much garlic cloves, I was excited at first but it was bland it's just garlic cloves in butter. Disappointed in food. 8/2025

Unfortunately, this place is just not what it used to be. The last time I was here I noticed a change in the flavor of the food, but was hoping that it was a fluke and there was someone new in the kitchen. But unfortunately, after coming back again yesterday I realized that the food here really just isn't that great anymore. Our first red flag should have been when we came on a Saturday afternoon and there was absolutely no one else inside. This place used to be so busy! When we came we told them we had a party of 9, so they had us sit at one of their larger tables in one of the corners. After about 15 mins of sitting there, we were asked if we could move because the table was only Reserved for larger parties. The table being only for larger parties is not a problem of course, but why have us sit there in the first place then? Also, let's be serious, there was no larger party coming anytime soon! Now the food... it was just a huge disappointment. We ordered 4 bags of seafood in total and each bag was seriously so BLAND. We even let our seafood sit in the bag for a bit hoping it would soak up some of the flavor, but unfortunately there was no flavor to soak up. The potato was also so undercooked that we left it in the bag to hopefully steam some more, but by the end of the meal it was still so hard. I also used to think that this place had the best garlic noodles, but you guessed it, it was also flavorless and lacked the deliciousness it used to have. As you can see in the photo my rice also looked so old and was hard/burnt in some places. The service was also sub-par. For a place that only had less than 5 tables seated, you think the staff would be more attentive, but they were not. Only once did we have someone come by to refill our water the whole time we were there. We even waited around so long for someone to bring the check that we just went up and paid. Won't be coming back anytime soon.

Ask the Community - The Kickin' Crab

Do they have online order system? Or only phone call?

i tried calling to confirm hours of operation, they just pick the phone up and hang up. very unprofessional. ive worked for a busy restaurant before and was still able to pick up the phone and take orders.

Will they open today for pickup?

Yes they're open. But they don't answer the phone. So good luck. And for some reason we got there around 7:30 and they said dining is closed already even if it says they're open til 9.

Their phone number never works! Are they closed for good?

They are open. They are quite busy, so they don't pick up the phone. You can hear it constantly ringing in the background 😂

Are u open now outdoor dining?

Because of the location, I don't think they'll do outdoor dining unfortunately.

Are they having any outdoor dining or in-door dining?

They provided indoor dining on November 15th, not sure about now because of new COVID protocols.

Does anyone know if they're offering takeout during shelter-in-place?

Yes! Last Sunday, my son called in the order and we drove to pick it up. Everything was ready and absolutely delicious! They even gave us the butcher paper they use to cover the tables. We covered our table and enjoyed the meal in the backyard!

    Still open for take out?

    Yes, they offer takeout

    What's the best seasoning?

I didn't like it at all. Seems like they only use Cajun powder on everything!

Are crabs cooked cajun only or there are other flavors to cook them with?

Yap, there are many sauce & flavors a viable beside Cajun. They make their own "Kickin" sauce too.

How much is it for a pound of shrimp?

    Market price - varies

Do they peel the shrimp for you?

Unfortunately no They don't.. but it was still delicious

Do they do pick up ordering?

    Yea

Are you able to order headless shrimp?

    not sure

Can I make reservation, we have 7 people?

I don't think they take reservations.

    How much are garlic noodles?

$10.99 as of right now on their website. You can go to their website and click on the location you wish to visit and download their menu, the prices are on there as well for that specific location.

Does the Kickin' Crab charge extra for parties over eight because the hostess told us they charged an 18% extra?

    Yes

Through pictures already posted, I've found the picture of the advertised roll on the menu photo, and the real order you recieve. The menu photo appears to have around 6-8oz of lobster, whereas the real order appears to only have closer to 2-3oz. Dissapointing when the plate was placed in front of me to see the reality. Still, overall a good eatery, just would be nice if food was delivered as advertised on the photos, otherwise its just fake advertising.

The garlic fries were cooked to the perfect level of crispiness, while the lobster garlic noodles were flavorful, savory, and packed with garlic goodness. The seafood itself was fresh and good quality, but I found the House Special Mild sauce a little underwhelming. I was hoping for more depth and flavor, but most of what I tasted was a mild kick of heat. While it wasn't bad, it didn't have the rich, buttery, and well-seasoned flavor profile that I typically look for in a seafood boil sauce. Service was great throughout our visit. We were seated promptly, our food arrived quickly, and any requests we had were fulfilled without issue. The staff was attentive and made the dining experience smooth and enjoyable. I also appreciated the restaurant's nautical theme. The decor featured fishing nets, ship-inspired accents, and other sea-themed elements that helped create a fun and immersive atmosphere. Overall, I'm glad we gave this place a try. The garlic noodles and fries were delicious, and the service was excellent. While I would probably choose other seafood boil spots in the future, this was still a solid experience and worth trying at least once.

You're able to choose from a variety of sauces and can choose your own spice level. I decided to go with their house sauce which i felt was a fusion of Cajun and garlic butter sauce; with a medium spice level. I do want to add the shrimp doesn't have a set price. The price is dependent on the Market price which turned out to be 15.99 for a pound of shrimp. You don't get to choose headless, the shrimp comes in its full form; which is fine by me. But I know some people prefer shrimp without the head on. I'd like to add this place has very reasonable prices for their boils; compared to a lot of their competitors Ie. Boiling crab. You can elect for your choice for sauce, and spice level -- and add any preferred extras like corn, sausages, and potatoes. The sauce and flavors have drastically improved compared to previous dine in experiences. This would be a good choice for a Cajun crawfish and seafood boil treat, but I can't stand on the service you'll receive -- hit or miss. Bonus: bring your own seafood dipping sauce. I was really disappointed with our visit. I haven't been to The Boiling Crab in years--probably 7…read moreyears or more. One reason is that I don't live in the San Jose area anymore, and another is that there are now so many seafood boil spots around since Boiling Crab really started the trend. One positive right away: there was no long wait. We arrived around 8pm and were seated immediately, which was great. I remember the days when we'd have to put our name down and walk around Target while waiting for our table. I do wish they offered combo bags like a lot of other seafood boil places do now, since that's always a hit. Instead, we ordered 3 pounds of shrimp with whole-sha-bang sauce in mild. The shrimp themselves were great--nice and big, not the tiny peanut-sized ones you sometimes get. The flavor was also really good. However, the "mild" tasted much spicier than I remembered. From past visits, mild always had a small kick but was still pretty manageable. This honestly tasted closer to medium. My boyfriend politely asked one of the servers if he could get a small side of garlic butter because the sauce was spicier than expected. She immediately responded that it would be $5 for extra sauce, and the way it was said came off pretty rude. We understand that there's an option to make the bag "extra saucy" for an additional charge, but he wasn't asking for extra sauce for the whole bag--just a small side to balance out the spice. Even a simple response like "I'm sorry it came out spicier than expected" would have gone a long way. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years, and I've always believed in "kill them with kindness." We weren't rude at all--we just mentioned that it seemed spicier than mild. In the end, we decided to just skip the extra sauce. Again, the flavor was still good, but to me this definitely tasted more like medium. When we got our check, a different server asked how everything was. My boyfriend mentioned that the sauce was spicier than mild, and she responded with, "Oh no, I'm sorry it wasn't exactly what you wanted." We told her it wasn't her fault since we had already mentioned it earlier, and she just gave us a sympathetic look. Overall, the food itself was good, and I'd probably give it a 4 for taste, but the lack of customer service knocked the experience down for me. I understand it was later in the evening and they still had a full lobby, but a little kindness and attentiveness would have made a big difference.

This is our go-to spot after a Sharks game!…read more Perfect for decompressing after a game-can stuff our faces as a source of comfort after a hard loss, or grab a few more rounds of drinks after a win. This visit, my husband and I ordered the crawfish pasta and the jambalaya. We also got the shrimp po'boy to go for my in-laws to try. The crawfish pasta was delicious and had a fair crawfish to pasta ratio (like 5 pasta shells to each crawfish bite, which is perfect for me as I was craving pasta that week). We also got drinks which was an interesting ordering experience since you have to order and pay at the bar before you get to the register where you can order your food. I think the bartender did a good job managing the crowd and checking in as best as she can to make sure people got their drink orders in! Jambalaya was flavorful (and I got it again on my next visit so I was def happy with it). No A/C inside and only fans which was rough after this particularly hot heat wave of a week we had. Outdoor was vibey if you were able to secure a spot. They had a live band playing so we were not able to secure a spot in that area. We decided to stay indoors where we were able to eventually cool down with our drinks. I can absolutely see this as a spot we go to before and after games. Already thinking about the next time we go with our friend group. And I'm noting that there's a speakeasy underneath I want to check out!

Poor House was an interesting little spot to grab a bite. Had a dive bar kind of feel. The staff…read morewere pretty friendly, even if the whole operation was a little rough around the edges. The food was alright. I wasn't blown away, but it wasn't bad either. I could see it being an ideal spot if you are out late, and want something to wash down with a beer or something. They also have the occasional live music outside which I could picture myself enjoying if it was the type of music I am into.
