This was undeniably the best dinner I've ever had in Charleston! My mom was visiting from out of town for her birthday and we treated her to dinner here. We started with a round of cocktails upstairs while we waited for our reservation time. We got there about 45 minutes early so we could do this. We heard the bar was awesome and it most definitely was. Great views and great drinks! When we got downstairs for dinner, we went all out... oysters, king crab, full entrées, a few sides, and dessert. I hadn't had king crab in a long long time and it was utterly delicious! I loved how they had them precut open to avoid the headache of cracking it. Way less messy and way more enjoyable! We took some recommendations from our server and he helped us make some incredible choices. The Wood Fired Carrots and The Brussels Sprouts made for great sharable sides! I'm really thankful for the recommendations from our server as he helped make this an even more enjoyable experience. We have heard great things about this restaurant but that wasn't our experience. I had called ahead to make a reservation and asked if they could provide a cake for our special occasions? The response was no we can order off of the menu or bring in a cake(s) which is what we opted to do. The waitress was not very pleasant and seemed bothered by having to work. We were rushed to order and when it came time for dessert we were handed dessert menus. We had to remind the staff we had brought the cakes. After about 10 minutes they brought out one cake and we had to wait another 10 minutes for the other cake and was told " the cake arrived ruined" which it wasn't I hand delivered them. When the waitress brought out the cake boxes she handed me the bag it was ripped right down the whole side of the bag leading me to believe someone dropped the cake. We had ordered coffee and were brought out curdled milk. Our experience was horrible and for the prices that are charged the service should have been much better. Went for dinner with some friends and we were all very excited to try this restaurant based on other's recommendations. Have to say great customer service all around. Our server Abby was so friendly and attentive. She even went above and beyond boxing up the oyster shells for my friend who decorates them. I didnt take pictures because honestly the food was not impressive or even worth the hype. We had the burrata cheese, fish sliders, raw oysters and clams. The oysters and clams were good but the burrata was pretty basic and the fish sliders were rock hard and no flavor. Caesar salad was probably the best thing all night. Huge salad and great caesar dressing. We also had the kt cobb was pretty and big but nothing to write home about. The mussels where in a thick tomato broth so much so it tasted like tomato soup and could not even taste the mussels. The special was swordfish and it was dry. Went to get a drink at the bar. Waited for at least 20 minutes in seats at the bar. No one acknowledged us. All bartenders seemed like they were not happy to be there. One bartender just emptied a dishwasher while ignoring us. We were right in front of him. Very disappointed in the way we were treated. Finally had to get up and leave to go somewhere else, since we couldn't even get anyone to take an order. We won't be back. read more

The food and experience was okay; I'll return in a few months after they iron out their new restaurant kinks. We went for lunch around 12:30 on Sunday and was told to pick any high top inside. It was probably a good 15 minutes before a bartender noticed we hadn't been served and asked what we would like to drink. I liked being able to see the kitchen service counter to see what food everyone was ordering and they do run an organized kitchen! Anyway, we ordered the hush puppies, burger, lobster roll. Since we sat by the kitchen I could see every order that was up. The food runner was definitely busy, I saw him pick up our food and a hush puppy fell off the platter. He picked it up off the ground and thankfully had the sense to not put it back on the serving dish but he still brought out the platter with one less hush puppy. I don't think he realized I was watching; I didn't want to ruin a nice lunch date with my guy so I didn't say anything. I'm definitely off put that he didn't have the kitchen refire a hush puppy so I paid $9 for an incomplete dish. Now for the burger, my boyfriend thought it was delicious and had a good kick of spice and heat. As for my lobster roll it was okay. It was bland so I'm wondering if the meat was previously frozen? It was all pretty finely chopped and shredded so it was hard to tell if it was just claw or if they use tail, knuckle and claw meat. For the price the portion was reasonable but I would have expected a fresher tasting lobster roll. Then when we were done, it took another 15 minutes for the server to bring us the check. I get that they are new and they appeared very busy for a Sunday afternoon but to not even be acknowledged that the check was on its way was kind of irritating. read more

However, the Crab Fried Rice in a small cup was $16 and consisted mostly of rice with very little crab plus some of the rice was burned. The potatoes in the Low Country Chowder were not fully cooked. We were very excited to have the new restaurant on Daniel Island. Have lived on the Island for over 18 years. We went upstairs for a casual dinner and were greeted by the very rude female manager with long dark hair. I have never met a restaurant manager treat people so poorly. When we talked to the male manager he was combative, sarcastic, and raised his voice. Long wait. Lack of Lobster on Lobster Cobb, wait was over an hour, drinks took forever and management upstairs lacked the ability to manage under pressure. read more

Best location and views on Daniel Island, but the food isn't very good, it's always busy, and it's expensive! If you just wanna go somewhere in your cute summer dress or white pants, this is a good spot for social gathering for drinks up on the top deck. But forget ever getting a reservation less than a week before you want to visit, weeks out in the summer time! The staff have a tone when you call them like, dude seriously we are taking reservations for next month right now....um okay. There's maybe 6 tables outside that can be reserved. The compound is really nice (especially to come sit on their deck when they're closed and no one is around lol!), but honestly if a peaceful delicious meal is what you're after you'd be way better off going to Sermets...and you can actually get a reservation there at Sermets. ;) I'll give these guys another chance when all the summer rush is over and maybe they switch to a different menu. read more

Actually, three stars is generous, but it is well-liked. They are at the waterfront, which is their main claim to fame. The upstairs bar has a nice view, and there is outside seating upstairs. The menu is a bit limited there, but a full menu is offered for dinner downstairs. Prices are too high for the quality of the food, which is nothing special. If there was fish in the fish tacos, it was undetectable. We have all been to restaurants that have a good view and don't need to be special beyond that. I found the bartenders upstairs to be efficient and unfriendly - too busy to pay attention to customers. It tries and fails to be a sports bar - it takes more than a bunch of TVs. This has nothing to do with the restaurant, but with human nature: The bar upstairs has seating inside and outside. Most people sit outside, where their view is of the few patrons on the inside. If you sit inside, you can see the waterfront and indulge in people-watching of the majority of patrons. If you want real waterfront dining with interesting views and good value, go to Shem Creek. read more

I went to Kingstide for the first time with uncertain expectations based on what I'd heard about it. Took a seat at the bar upstairs which had only a few people. Sat for several minutes without any of the bartenders acknowledging I was there. Eventually a server dropped off a menu but never returned. None of the four people behind the bar ever asked if I'd like to order a drink. After fifteen minutes of waiting I finally left. Had it been packed I maybe would have understood but it was very disappointing considering there were at least four people working at the bar and only 8-10 customers. read more

My first meal in Charleston area occurred in May, 1972. I've eaten in many, many restaurants, many, many times during the ensuing years. This restaurant, Kingstide, undoubtedly and without question, serves the worst meal in all of the Charleston area. The appetizer, octopus, was totally overcooked and totally salty. The main dish, a tiny piece of fish that was half the portion served at FIG, but, for about the same price, was settled on a meager portion of mashed potatoes that tasted old, and a sauce that was so weak that chicken noodle soup broth would have seemed an improvement, accompanied (the sauce) by a smattering of "vegetables" that were not recognizable because of their scarcity. Excellent food and service! We had a party of 6 and were seated immediately inside. Appetizers of calamari and cauliflower were delicious and well prepared. Entrees, salads, and sides excellent. We were not happy, however, with the size of the wine pours. For a $15 glass of red wine it looked like a 4 or 5 oz. pour. The same was for the white wines. We asked to speak to the manager who was excellent and said she would note this for management but that the wine was a 5 oz portion. Also, they do not have a Pinot Grigio on their wine list. Unusual in this area. Would definitely go again, however, as the food, setting, and service were all delightful. A great boat ride over with easy docking. read more
