We had a few things that needed to be adjusted with another contractor, and The Kitchen Helpers were flexible, kept communication open, and worked with everyone to make sure the kitchen came together beautifully. We recently utilized The Kitchen Helpers (TKH) to help plan and install our new kitchen from Ikea. The kitchen we were replacing, in a 102 year old cottage style home in Camas, was disjointed and disfunctional. We really needed to redesign the small space so that we would have good, useful and functional flow. Bottom line: TKH provided us with great design services and then did a tremendous job of assembling and installing our new Ikea kitchen. Well worth every penny spent. I would highly recommend others to take advantage of this valuable partnership that Ikea provides through them! Now, if you want the details of our experience, to help you know what to expect, read on... The initial cost for the design consultation was $250, which we setup while we were visiting Ikea. The cost is refunded if you decide to use their design and purchase your newly planned kitchen at Ikea. Three words on this: WELL WORTH IT! Heather was our designer and she met us at the house and listen to us about what our goals were and what we wanted to accomplish. Based on our input, she made several thoughtful observations and suggestions and then she took measurements and then sat down and designed away. Within an hour, or so, she presented us with three very creative options. We took a day to discuss them amongst ourselves and then notified Heather of our choice. At that point, all that was left was to go back to Ikea and order our new kitchen! After ordering all the kitchen components (cabinets, appliances and countertop), we setup our install appointment with TKH for just two days after the delivery of all the items (over 160 boxes...yikes!). The estimated number of days to complete the install was three (3) days. On the scheduled day, and right on time, the assembler, Neal, arrived and he began putting together every cabinet box and component for the kitchen. Amazingly, he finished his work in a single day. (Note, if I had done this myself, I wouldn't have survived and I would have had to be institutionalized.) Meanwhile, the installer, Rick, arrived a little later and began installing the assembled pieces. The entire kitchen was completely installed in three days...on schedule. Great job! Thank God we chose to have TKH do this work. Everything seemed to be put together without damage, or rush. Although we completely demoed and rebuilt the kitchen's walls, the old floor still presented many challenges. But our Rick worked out every challenge and got everything level and tight. No small feat and honestly, it would not have been "easy" by Ikea's standards to have attempted this ourselves. Areas for improvement (why 4 and not 5 stars): Communicating with TKH wasn't always easy at first, but got better once we got to the design phase. Also, we paid for debris removal and some debris was left behind; as well as after install, I noticed that there were some finish issues with the cabinets, where finish nail holes had not been filled as they should have been. I contacted TKH and sent them photos and they have committed to getting those resolved for us. We'll see how that goes, and if well, I'll up the rating to 5 stars for sure. 4/18/18 Review Update: TKH's came back and filled the nail holes and picked up the final debris as requested within a couple of days. We've installed an IKEA kitchen ourselves, the cabinets are easy to assemble and the finished product is first class. The key is to measure accurately. It also helps to be fit enough to heft cabinets, countertops, and other heavy bits. Which we're not these days, and, needing a new kitchen in the house we're in now, we're seeking an installer. We were out at IKEA yesterday getting serious about our planned remodel. One of the IKEA staff walked us through setting up an account with IKEA's Kitchen Planner software, which is web-based so that you can continue the design process at home. We're a couple of hours into the software part and very impressed with what it can do. I asked our IKEA rep about installation, and he pointed us to the desk where The Kitchen Helpers has a presence. I approached cautiously, as the woman at the desk was shuffling through a huge stack of paperwork. The general tenor of the conversation was that I was interrupting her, asking stupid questions, and being unreasonable by asking any questions about the services that they provided (for example, no, they do not remove your existing cabinets, they don't do sheetrock work, they don't do touchup painting, they don't work with electricity, water, or gas). And that's their sales rep. Do I want to find out what the rest of the company is like? No, no I don't. Really, IKEA, your strategy of hiring low bid contractors does not reflect well on your business. read more

I've been wrestling with contractors for a long time on multiple house projects and one of the hardest things is scheduling and communication. TKH were SO great at communicating and responding quickly. Their invoices were clear and understandable and they were willing to answer my dozens of questions. While I felt like I could draft up the 3D rendering of our kitchen with the IKEA software myself, I really liked that they just did it for me and planned for small details that would've been difficult for me (adding panels on cabinets, spacers between cabinets so they don't hit other cabinets or drawers, etc.). Ikea reviewed their input and made some suggestions which was fantastic. When all the materials showed up, I was confident what we had purchased would be what we needed. I LOVED that they came and installed it. It took 3 days exactly. First day was building the boxes, next two days was install. The guys that did it were friendly and helpful, willing to make small adjustments to the original plans, and really made something very inconvenient (construction in your home) something very easy and smooth. They showed up right when they said they would and hit deadlines and that was even with some curve ball problem solving moments our kitchen layout through at them. Highly recommend. read more

I have mixed feelings with Kitchen Helpers. First, they did a great job on designing our small kitchen remodel. Made everything super easy! However, on the back end there was a cabinet that was too big. I asked what we should do about it, and Heather's response was that "it's not our problem because the wall length was unknown". Fine, I get that. But you cant help us figure out how to return it? Luckily they copied the Ikea rep who took care of us. Bottom line, we would use them again. We had a great experience with The Kitchen Helpers! After working with an in-store IKEA employee to purchase cabinets, we decided to get a quote for installation from The Kitchen Helpers. Mostly we were curious how they compared to the cost of what our general contractor was quoting us for the same exact cabinet installation. WOW! They were several hundred dollars cheaper than what our contractor wanted to charge us, so we decided to roll the dice and hire them for the job. Brenda at The Kitchen Helpers desk at IKEA was very thorough when we contacted them about a difference in the first and final price quote we received. She resolved the issue quickly, was very pleasant to deal with, and scheduled us for installation on the dates we requested. The best part of our Kitchen Helpers experience though was the cabinet installer they sent out to do the job! Travis was terrific! My wife and I unfortunately made several mistakes with our measurements and Travis was a great problem solver, working with us to troubleshoot our missteps. He worked incredibly hard the entire time he was here and made sure we were happy with the work he was doing each step of the way. I would strongly recommend hiring a private contractor rather than using the Kitchen Helpers. We have redone our floors, siding, windows, bathroom, yard, and more and had no issues until we hired the Kitchen Helpers. The level of communication was unacceptable -- they did not tell us when they were starting the project, then showed up at our house without having ever spoken with us about counter height, electrical outlets, and other preferences that were necessary to the end design. Luckily, I happened to be home otherwise they would have started without any direction. When we articulated our concerns, we were stone-walled. No returned emails or phone calls for weeks on end. I would have scrapped the entire project but we had already had everything delivered and were essentially at their mercy. I happened to be at the house when Chad, the owner, was there. I told him about our nightmare through this scenario and thereafter, he did a lot to try to rectify the situation but at that point we were 95% finished with the project. If I ever did another Ikea kitchen, I would pay double to not have to use this company. read more

These guys were fantastic! Seriously wonderful. First off, I had a great experience scheduling everything at their kiosk in IKEA in the kitchen section. They were very clear about expectations and were able to schedule installation just 2 days after our items were delivered! Which was like 4 days after I ordered it. Can't beat purchase and install within a week's time. We had a lot of modifications that needed to be made upon installation. The kiosk folks took note of everything and communicated it all to the installers pretty well. We were actually not in town on the first day of install, which was a bit nerve-wracking, but when we returned on day 2 of installation, they had made modifications as instructed and made sure to clarify anything that seemed confusing. Rich, the main installer at our home was incredible. Such a hard worker and paid a lot of attention to detail. He seemed to really like to get things just right. I don't think he took a break in the two days I saw him! He did a fabulous job and even saved us some money by installing the cabinets and bit more securely using his tools and gear, which allowed us to return many items we weren't going to use. This was my second time (2013 & 2018) using The Kitchen Helpers (TKH) and both times were exceptional. The 2013 project was for a kitchen in excess of 10k, and the 2018 project was for a beverage center in a master bedroom/bathroom suite in excess of 4K. Holly provided exceptional design work, particularly when I wanted part of the beverage center to be a desk. This was a bit of a challenge, but Holly rose to the task and designed a great space. She also made several after design changes for me with ease. Brenda worked diligently with me to schedule, and when my tilers were behind schedule, Brenda quickly moved my appointment to the next one available. She also pushed back at IKEA when there were not going to reimburse me the initial design fee. Thanks to Brenda, I received my fee back. Finally, Jason arrived on time to build and install the cabinets, and worked cleanly. I was impressed at how quickly he built, installed, and made an on-site change when he identified an outlet that would cause countertop installation issues. Jason's treated my home as his own. The workspace was completely clean and all boxes were cut to size making it easy for me to recycle. Jason also took a look at two cabinet doors from my 2013 project and made minor adjustments to them for me. I would highly recommend TKH to design, build and install your cabinets. From the beginning with Brandi coming to my loft doing all the measurements, and making great suggestions, to the finished product I have been so pleased. It was the best move I made for me to make it an easy, clean experience. The install happened in a day, and though there were some small issues that needed some attention, the installer worked it all out and made the finished product perfect. This is a hard review for me to write, as there were many positives and large negatives to this whole experience. For some background, we have a very average kitchen per the IKEA sales rep. Average size, average amount of cabinets. The price we paid for install was to the tune of a few thousand dollars. That seemed pretty normal at the time from everything I had read. At the end of the day I think this was about 12 hours of time for the assembler and no more than 11 hours of time for 1 installer. You do the math.... its nothing near a good price for the customer. The actual install was fine. The two guys were polite and we are satisfied with the job they did. The installer even said a few times how "easy" our kitchen was. As in, we did a good job with the demo. There was nothing wonky about the kitchen. Again, after reviewing their man hours, I have no idea why we paid them so much money. Now onto the bad part. Their customer service started off decent. They were quick to send the contract. They came on the date we originally setup for install. The part where they went wrong is that at the end of all of this, I'm looking around my fresh kitchen and thinking it looks incomplete. Then I realize the installer didn't caulk anything. A quick google search of how to install IKEA cabinets specifically lists caulking as a finishing item, but it seemed like our installer was in a rush to get to the next job. As noted above, after paying way too much for this, I'm a little peeved about it.... why quit in the 8th inning? Here's the part where they went really wrong. I called the store to talk to her about it and the woman was very confused. "I'm not sure if we do that". She says she'll talk to her supervisor and get back to me. She emails me back and says, sorry, we will get you scheduled for a "go back" but we won't be charged for the extra site visit (what a favor). A few days go by. No one calls to schedule. I call and email the store numerous times and no one wants to get this scheduled. Then I get an email for my final bill. I tell the billing girl we aren't wrapping up the bill til the jobs done. At this point I'm basically stalking the Portland store to get me on the books for a "go back". I finally catch someone on the phone and she says she can get me scheduled in early may. A MONTH? No way. So I call/email a few more times and finally someone says they can do it next week. Well the dude ended up just showing up at my house unannounced before next week and wrapped it up in 10 minutes. Just crazy unorganized. All in all, the installers did a good job, but these people are so unorganized and it's like no ones in charge on the administrative side of things, and no one was worried about them finishing our job after they didn't take it to the finish line. Considering how much it cost, I'd explore other options if we did it again. !!!!Update!!!! IKEA kitchen helpers just called to get my 'go back' scheduled because she saw my email from two weeks ago. I say, uh yeh, your guy came out over a week ago. What?!? So. Unorganized. And a little scary that they have no record of that. read more

Just finished a project with Kitchen Helpers and am happy to report in contrast to previous reviews, ours went good. The good: Initial conversations, layout decisions and prepping were efficient. Contractors all seemed reliable and knowledgeable. Kitchen Helper management went above and beyond to help fix unexpected issues where cabinets were rubbing each other after install. Main contractor, Phil, was a pleasure to work with. The kitchen looks fantastic. The bad: Communication with one of the sales women was odd, she seemed as if she is recovering from a brain injury or something. We purchased extra pieces that we didn't need to use, which required a return trip to IKEA (been to IKEA so many times this month, even the meatballs are boring). My involvement with certain elements of the install required more hands-on participation than I was hoping for. All and all, the process was smooth and I would recommend them to anyone who wants an IKEA kitchen without losing their mind trying to do it themselves. read more

I recently used the Kitchen Helpers to design my kitchen. I was so excited to hear about this service because designing a kitchen on my own seemed very overwhelming. Well...that was my first mistake. The experience went well until I realized that the designer (Heather) measured the kitchen incorrectly. This turned into a MAJOR MISTAKE!!! I had purchased all of the kitchen cabinets through Ikea and they were on their way to be delivered to my house. When we noticed this mistake, we went to Ikea to try to rectify the issue. Originally we went straight up to the Kitchen Helpers desk within Ikea and they said that they could schedule us in the following week...yeah, no thank you. Then we went up to the Ikea employed kitchen staff and Alison saved our life (she's amazing)! Alison told us that the Kitchen Helpers did us an incredible disservice and in turn, cost us approximately 10 hours of our time (having to re-design the kitchen, inventory incorrect product and return the product), in addition to an additional delivery fee ($59). Alison spent 5 hours with us working on this project, which she said was "the most complicated revision she has ever completed". Following this debacle, I contacted the Kitchen Helpers (who do not live up to their name) to ask for a refund to my $199 service fee. It would be the least that they could do. They did not respond. So I emailed them again. I received this response from Jennifer Berry: ------------------------------ Hello Genny, I have reviewed your file and all paperwork. I have also been able to talk with Heather. I wanted to let you know that after looking into everything, I will not be issuing you a refund. I really wanted & tried to be happy and satisfied with Kitchen Helpers....but in the end I was exhausted & discouraged by the very long delays, incompetent management, disappointed with some of the quality of the contracted jobs and felt unsupported when I had a complaint. What I expected was "management" of the remodel and the contract employees. Instead, it was a long consistent "series of unfortunate events." There was often last minute scrambling because of neglected scheduling, 3 "do-overs" on projects and often during this stressful time my contact person was "away" and unavailable. What we thought would be a small & simple 1/2 kitchen remodel, using existing appliances, no bells & whistles, took a 5 FULL MONTHS...from start to finish! I had no stove for much of that time, because the countertop measurement was wrong...and had to try and get through the death of my mom and several sets of guests staying with us, in the midst of this kitchen chaos. I absolutely could NEVER recommend this business to anyone. I did like Heather's creative suggestions during the free initial planning session....but after that....it was NOT fun! I have rarely given businesses bad reviews over my lifetime....I try to focus on the good...but in this case, I want to warn others of my bad experiences. When we requested a refund, we did get an $80 credit for a broken dishwasher door that happened during the re-installation...but that amount will NOT cover us hiring a repairman to fix a problem which they caused. :-( I feel the only word for this company is "incompetent." Their business practices and integrity are unacceptable. If I could have a do-over, I sub-contract it MYSELF. And probably save a bundle. The Ikea installers did a good job on the cabinets. But Kitchen Helpers made the whole project very painful. read more

Pros: the actual installers. If i could give them a separate rating it would be 5 stars. Also the team that worked at the help desk were pleasant and did their best to accommodate. Cons: the project manager(s) is meh-to-terrible. Specifically minimal effort was taken and zero responsibility for issues in billing, credits and problems with the kitchen installation. I had to take ALL initiative to reach out and follow up with questions, issues and reviewing my credit card statement and bill to make sure my issues were rectified. I had to hire (who would be one of their) competitors to do some of the work because of all rescheduling/project management issues. I have never given a poor review to a company and have owned several businesses but I can't let this go. read more

This was my first kitchen remodel and the Kitchen Helpers were there to guide me every step of the way. I went through Ikea to start the project who referred me to The Kitchen Helpers. The contractor, Phil was very knowledgeable and had great advice/ideas to make sure that my kitchen was done the right way. For example, I told him I planned to do open shelving so he suggested that they install horizontal studs before doing the drywall to better support the shelves. My Project Coordinator, Alyson was amazing. She was easily accessible by phone, text or email. She would even respond on weekends. Ikea made a mistake, delaying the project, and Alyson was the one who went above and beyond to try to fix it, even though it wasn'tThe Kitchen Helper's fault. After Ikea delayed my project, The Kitchen Helpers did everything on their part to keep the project moving and finishing as close to the original timeline as possible. The quality of the work was excellent and I love my new, beautiful kitchen! I will definitely use The Kitchen Helpers for future projects. I highly recommend! read more

My experience was pretty uninspiring and I would not say the $200 "full service" fee was money well spent. The upshot is the installation seems well-done, but as the reviewer below says, the way everything else was managed was a disappointment: - Heather, our designer, did not ask anything about budget for the initial design. This left us with a nearly $6K estimate for parts only in a roughly 10x10 space, even though IKEA's sample price (for a 10x10 space) was about $3K. After I brought up concerns about cost, she was helpful in coming to a more reasonable budget, but why wasn't the budget question on her checklist for the initial session? - Our revised design came in at a more reasonable price, including 10 sq ft of oyster quartz countertop quoted at $590, with a disclaimer saying there may be a higher minimum sq. ft. purchase. I only found out when I arrived at the store that the minimum purchase is 25 sq. ft., nearly tripling the cost. As it turns out, *all* stone countertops have a 25 sq. ft. minimum. Not knowing this or sharing it with the customer is just careless, especially for IKEA's designated installer. - For a cabinet installed over an in-floor heating register, Heather indicated I needed to purchase an adapter from the register to the kick panel. After I followed up a couple of times with her, she provided a couple of links to possible parts, neither from a local store. As it turns out, these are apparently hard to find. Why can't Kitchen Helpers provide these, and why didn't she say anything about how hard these are to get? Fortunately, my installer was able to adapt a part I found that was close enough to what he needed. - As a result of the counter snafu, the installer showed up without the correct glue to affix trim to the counter top. On my own initiative, I called up and rescheduled someone to come out and do it. I was home at the appointed time and nobody showed up, and the best they could offer was an apology and for someone to come out in 2 days. - The installer, who admitted he was new, thought I had bought some of the wrong hinges and door dampers. After looking at the plans and parts myself, I realized he'd installed the wrong hinges on one of the other doors. Normally this wouldn't be a big deal, and he corrected it, but in light of everything else, it's just one more thing. Again, the actual end product (assuming the person shows up to finish the final detail) is solid, but when you claim to be an expert at IKEA installations and are their designated vendor, there's no excuse for not having the process down. read more

Our IKEA kitchen was recently installed by Kitchen Helpers and we are very pleased with their work. Rick was extremely meticulous and careful to make the kitchen look great. When they took out the old kitchen, they were careful not to dent or destroy walls. They were efficient and courteous. The Kitchen Helpers (TKH) from start to finish (designing, cabinet selection and installation, returning unused IKEA items and coordination of my countertops) were professional, flexible and responsive to a few necessary changes and more importantly were quick to fix issues that arose in my remodel so it did not drag on. TKH's affiliation with Fine Line Remodeling (FLR) is the best! FLR's contractor and crew were also professional, set a schedule and kept to it and were wiling to work with changes in the design and even those not in the original design that came up during the re-model. I appreciated their ideas to help me decide on some changes that has really enhanced my new kitchen! I appreciated that Jen from TKH dealt with and facilitated the few changes, took care of communicating with IKEA and the countertop installers and coordinated with FLR. Jen came to my house to check on the progress, to problem solve some size issues and let me know that she wanted me to be happy with the work. I very much appreciated the communication between TKH and FLR and with me. They responded quickly to texts and phone calls. I am extremely pleased with my new kitchen and wish that I had done all this years ago! read more

The list of repeated negative experiences with them is so long and so complicated by their repeated reliance on obfuscating or out and out lying it reads like a horror story and I will skip most of it. This company is propped up by its relationship with IKEA and Traemand-the company that manages IKEA kitchen installations. NOTHING is ever ANYONE'S fault and the waiting list for all their services is endless so they don't have to actually care. I gave the identical description of the kitchen I wanted to everyone I encountered. I showed them all the same websites and photographs. I had simple needs. Everyone I spoke with said the same thing-talk to your installer. When the installer arrived, he had the wrong materials - ordered from the list given to me by Kitchen Helpers. He had the wrong plans because Kitchen Helpers had neglected to load the correct ones. He tried but he kept asking ME to guide him. THAT IS WHY I HIRED KITCHEN HELPERS - because I did not trust my skills to install my own cabinets (This is my 7th renovation project. I am renovating a 110 year old home that has not been lived in for 35 years and I acted as general contractor and frequently installer on all the other renovations but I knew I needed help with the kitchen.) IKEA kitchens are for people who have extensive computer skills. If you want a little vague help you can get it from one of the three entities I mentioned but if you want expertise, support, and a business that backs up their mistakes with integrity, this system is not for you. I noticed the mistake everyone I spoke with had made and then perpetuated a day after the installer was finished. I kept telling everyone something was wrong but I simply could not see it myself. I kept asking for help. I had already signed off and paid for the job because these people insist. Correcting the mistake would have made me a satisfied customer and might have taken one installer half a day but Jennifer Berry, the owner decided to be untruthful and keep repeating that the problem was my fault even though one quick look at her company's website, IKEA's website and Traemand's website would have illustrated that the design and installation problem was theirs. She did not even deign to listen to me. If you want to be heard, if you want expertise, if you want someone who cares, even a little bit, don't go here. They don't care. My intent was to leave a 4-1/2 Star review -- 4 stars for the in-store staff at IKEA, and 5 stars for our installer, Jason. My wife and I installed the upper cabinets in our kitchen, and Jason did the lower ones. After seeing the work involved in getting the lower ones situated correctly, I was glad we listened to both the IKEA and KH staff to have an expert handle those. We threw a few challenges at Jason per having some angled cabinets and tight spaces, and he came through with great solutions for all them. He really knows the IKEA products and was able to make some recommendations on finishing touches we're tackling on our own. Thanks, Jason! read more

After unloading all the boxes and inventorying all the pieces to our Ikea kitchen, I was really happy we made the choice to have Kitchen Helpers install! Because we had some wishful thinking (on my part about timeline), we had to change the kitchen install date a few times and the woman on the phone made me feel so much better. Walter installed the kitchen and it was great. He worked solo, was super fast, and with only one thing that needed fixed, he was super responsive. I first found out about Kitchen Helpers while visiting IKEA. Kitchen Helpers are the "official" installer for IKEA's kitchens. I figured that if all they do is install IKEA kitchens, they should be pretty darn good at it. And damn great they are!--not only was Rick and Noah's installation fantastic, but they notified me about small details here and there, listened to me, and offered straightforward solutions during their install. They were accessible and friendly. My kitchen looks beautiful! And Alyson's phone/email support thru the entire process was phenomenal. Our experience with kitchen helpers was terrific. Heather (Designer) drew up a great design and had ideas we really appreciated adding. Jennifer the scheduler was very pleasant and helpful along with Shelby their rep at IKEA. They sent out Tanner (Assembler) and he was very professional, courteous and friendly. Rich (cabinet Installer) worked very hard and did excellent work! He made our kitchen look awesome! He's a true professional at installing cabinets! I've not yet had my csbinets installed, and I highly doubt I will have these people do it, all because of their quoting department. I gave them my designed kitchen for my quote. They came back with a reasonable price, so I signed off on it. I went back to complete my kitchen design and had to reissue my design as we added 1 18" cabinet. They came back with a bid 130% higher! I called them to find out what in the world are they thinking. Oh, (a little giggle from her), they missed a few things. I told her that is NOT MY problem, I expect them to honor the first bid.
