We visited The Krebs because we had a gift card. We had one of the best meals of our lives, at the suggestions of our server Jen who was attentive and warm. It was a fantastic experience. We loved the upscale but traditional setting and felt as if we were in someone's home having dinner. The food was excellent, with unique flavors that worked well together. My husband enjoyed his craft mocktails and I loved too many of the menu choices to choose. Jen suggested the porchetta and duck dishes, and they did not disappoint. So many wonderful flavors in each, and just thinking about them makes my mouth water! We had the stone fruit crumble for dessert and it was delicious! We will absolutely be back as much as we can. We now know what restaurant to recommend for a special and fantastic meal! I especially loved all the additional support of the young waitstaff. We dined at the Krebs on a recent Saturday evening. We've been going there since they served family style. Over the years, we've found that although the food is always superior, the service has definitely deteriorated. Our server was clearly distracted, a little frazzled and harried. We sat for quite a while until she finally made it over to our table. She seemed undecided about various preparations of the evening specials; She said "haddock" when she MEANT "halibut!" (Quite different) Another diner called her out on this! We sat longer than acceptable with dirty plates in front of us. All in all, it was ok, however, they should clearly inform their servers of each special, and the difference between halibut and haddock! At one point the manager came over and asked if everything was ok; He may have been aware that our server had too many tables!! For a special occasion, my husband and I decided to have dinner here on a recent weekend evening. I was a little concerned that it would be too "stuffy" for my liking but I was pleasantly surprised. The Krebs is an elegant restaurant but not pretentious, both with regard to staff and space. There were patrons dressed up and other is jeans. Definitely not a sweatpants kind of deal. There were families with younger kids and couples. They've nailed down service, all workers seemed to be interested in making our experience a good one. The interior ambiance is wonderful. The furnishings and layout are impeccable, warm and cozy yet refined. The food for the most part was on point. The bread service was excellent. All varieties were delicious but especially the focaccia. The menu is limited but big enough to have options for most folks. My husband and I started with the crispy duck wings. They were great but wow they were spicy, we were warned but I didn't think they were that serious. My husband loved his lamb shank entree. My salmon was good but there was an over abundance of relish in top of it. I thought that was odd and I didn't care for how it tasted with the salmon so I scraped it off. The chocolate torte dessert was a decadent way to finish our meal. We shared it, it would be way too much for one person to polish off solo. One of the richest and dense desserts I've ever had. On a side note, the bathrooms are beautiful. The now have a kids menu. I'd like to check out brunch here one of these weekends. Went to Krebs for Easter brunch today. The decor, design, and appearance of the Krebs is very classy and without a stuffy feeling. It's an enjoyably setting. Despite the fantastic ambiance, the service is just ok and they still lack in some very important to detail items. The service staff is mostly made of of 20 year old kids, despite their age they do an ok job. They lack the experience and knowledge you would expect here. First question was regarding a menu item and the 20 something old waiter had no clue about the menu item.......My eggs benedict came out cold, I had to ask them to remove dirty dishes, and 1-2 times I was looking for the waiter to order another drink. The food is ok. And when I mean ok, you can get the same exact dish anywhere. If you have not tried it, I would suggest to do so, but also don't go into the Krebs expecting the best meal you've ever had. It's fine. But prices are high for the end result. It's convenient for the people who live in Skaneateles, but I don't see myself driving another 30 minutes anytime soon for a meal at Krebs. read more

Hands down the best restaurant in Skaneateles (or Syracuse or anywhere around here for that matter). This place has been open since 1899, and was well loved but in need of a makeover. It certainly got that. The new owners put a ton of money, time and effort into every aspect of the design, menu, and dining experience. They've got a cute patio out front (on what used to be the old porch when it was a house in the 1800's) and you're welcomed by gas lamps. Inside are a number of well appointed and tastefully decorated dining rooms along with a high-end, timeless bar with a mixologist that makes delicious and creative cocktails. The service is excellent and the food is absolutely delicious, reasonably priced, fresh, and creative. The portions are quite large for a restaurant of this caliber. You won't be disappointed in The Krebs. read more

The Krebs really checked all the boxes for us. My husband and I made reservations for weekend brunch. First, the location is picture perfect and we loved making a day trip of visiting Skaneateles. The restaurant is beautiful and we felt very safe regarding COVID with table-spacing, staff safety precautions etc. The food was delicious -- we had the chef's crepes (strawberry mascarpone), bruschetta frittata and chicken and waffles, plus the $15 mimosa carafe special which is a steal, and the complimentary flight of pastries was a great touch. Presentation on everything was lovely and we were honestly blown away by the portion sizes and the prices are so accessible for such an upscale spot. What really shined was the spot-on service -- everyone from the host to our server to the food runners -- all made sure you were never without anything you might need. We live quite a distance away and our experience was worth the drive! We can't wait to come back and check out dinner. We were celebrating a birthday with a visit to Skaneateles. I made reservations a month in advance and glad I did as even a Wednesday evening they were busy! Trevor our waiter was superb. In fact all the staff from the hostesses to bussers and food runners were top notch. They appeared to be all young college kids. Their parents would be proud of their professionalism. Food was unique and delicious. They were trying a new menu that night (very limited) so every course was a wonderful surprise. The kitchen got slightly backed up during peak seating but any extra wait was unnoticed as we enjoyed the ambiance and the people watching. Staff was nice enough but there seems to be an awful lot of turnover. We were there with a group of people (they knew this ahead of time). With reservations, took awhile to seat us. Once we were at our table, we ordered drinks. A 1/2 hour later, still no drinks! Flagged down the server who promptly began getting them to us. Right off the bat our experience at the Krebs was great our server nick deserves xtra props for being so attentive, polite and knowledgeable we ordered the bison tartare and the fried cauliflower to start the tartare was fresh melt in your mouth and had amazing hints of saltiness from the capers paired with the savory herbal sauces on top it was a great way to start the meal it was followed by the fried cauliflower which was DELICIOUS I don't care for cauliflower but the way it was prepared paired with a sweet and tangy sauce it was so good it was paired with what tasted to be a half sour pickled carrot and the two paired together were a match made in heaven. For entrees I ordered the 16oz angus reserve strip loin with the pommes purée my partner ordered the Peruvian game hen paired with the garlic parm fries. The steak was prepared at a perfect medium rare and was seasoned beautifully nothing to overpowering really letting this beautiful cut of meat shine it was tender and flavor and paired with their signature butter was a true example of a perfect pairing. My partner thoroughly enjoyed the Peruvian game hen it was served over an avocado purée the reminded us of guacamole with the hints of cilantro along with the fingerling potato's and roasted corn it was a true synergy of Spanish flavor with a modern twist fries were crispy and delicious with the perfect amount of garlic parm our only caveat with this restaurant and the only reason it gets 4/5 stars was the ambiance was a bit off the restaurant was absolutely gorgeous soaked in history and the lighting was perfect to match but the music was absolutely awful it was "Tik tok" music if you know what I mean it honestly took away from the meal in the highest degree and we were seated under a speaker so we really got a chance to hear it this restaurant deserves music of a higher class something easy to listen to not bass heavy techno. But other than that please visit this restaurant it is a must try if in Skaneateles.!!!! read more

The Krebs is a beautiful establishment, from the decor to the food to the staff. We had a 6:30 reservation for 7 people- and we didn't leave until after 9:30. We did feel that the bar and kitchen were a bit behind which was odd as the dining room was near empty when we arrived. Our drink order of 3 wines, 2 beers and one cocktail took around 15 minutes to get. Our server was very attentive and kept checking in- but again with the limited tables sat we did find the wait odd. We then ordered oysters and several salads- the Caesar wedge was interesting it did have a miracle whip taste to the dressing which we found a little off putting. Once the food started coming, it came at a good pace after that. And oddly enough that's when the restaurant started filling up. Everyone enjoyed their dinners- they were all fresh, warm and balanced flavors. Again our waiter was very nice and attentive throughout dinner. My table did get a few desserts which they all raved about- I opted for a latte which was a great way to end the night. My mom and I took a girls trip weekend to Skaneateles and the finger lakes and I had been scoping out The Krebs weeks before we left. Happy to report it lived up to my expectations. I am very into interior design and decorating so I'll start by saying that the interior of this restaurant is amazing. Very different than anything we have in Buffalo. From the textiles, to the lighting, to the window treatments and paint, everything was perfectly decorated and just gave an amazing vibe. I noted to my mom that I would be very happy to have my house decorated the same lol. Service was great! From the hostesses to the wait staff, everyone was extremely nice and very communicative on different dishes and what they contained to describing the dishes and specials- you can tell the owners of the establishment made sure they created an experience for you when dining here, and it is appreciated! Now the food! We visited for brunch and now I'm excited to try dinner because their brunch was so delicious. I ordered the mixed berry compote French toast that included a cream cheese Bavarian cream, with a side of home fried potatoes. The French toast was perfectly cooked- golden to perfection, and the crème mixed with the mixed berries blended so well the dish didn't even need syrup or anything added. I am a leftovers person, I never finish a meal in one sitting, but I ate my entire dish. It's was so delicious. My mom ordered the chicken and waffles. She liked hers but wish it was made with chicken breast instead of thigh as she isn't a dark nest person. I had a taste of hers and when I eat chicken I DO enjoy the thigh and thought it was very very good; crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The waffle was also yummy. We both ordered water, tea and juice. I liked that they offered still or sparkling water as most places don't. We enjoyed a fantastic culinary experience here this evening, from start to finish! I ordered a Sidecar from the bar, which was divine, and couldn't get enough of the rosemary foccacia at the start. I had the Lettuces to start, which was pretty in presentation, but not nearly as flavorful as the the tortellini starter! Oh my! The flavors of pea, carrot and mint were an amazing combination! My main dish was the salmon with tempura broccoli, which was delicious and had a tad of spice that gave it a nice flavor. I loved that they poured the sauce after, rather than bringing it out already prepared. Dessert was a variety of cookies, which were good and of artisanal quality, but what was especially notable were the French Macarons. WOW! Very fresh and flavorful, and made on site. What a nice, light way to end the meal! The wine pairings were right on par and the sommelier Josh was extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and Grace's service was also notably excellent! I love that they use local wineries who produce small batches. The port served with the cookies was phenomenal... wish I caught the name! The service was phenomenal the entire time we were there. They have definitelytrained their waiters to serve and tend to their guests with the utmost care and to not be too overbearing. I also love the ambience here- very intimate and a hybrid between contemporary and classic. They did a gorgeous job with the remodel! Another splendid dinner. However, this time we were able to choose from the complete menu. The Belly Pork starter with the maple glaze and slaw was outstanding. I would have been perfectly happy to eat it all night. Followed by a Lamb Shank, braised for 6 hours. So tender it just fell apart. Juicy, unctuous and very, very tasty. Rather small sides on the plate so we ordered some wonderful Brussel Sprouts "Gratin". We also had the filet mignon which was also outstanding. Delicious desserts. The Chocolate plate was decadent and the Butterscoth Pudding sensational. The wine list was endless with some really great wines but it is a little expensive. The Sommelier was really helpful and very knowledgable. This an expensive place but worth it. Especially if you consider that profits go to charity. Very good but unobtrusive service. Overall, a pleasant experience if not one quite worthy of five stars. We made our reservation late, and could only book a 'high table" through Open Table. When we arrived, the host offered us immediate lounge seating or, if we waited a few minutes, a regular table. Under-promise over deliver, so far so good. Within about five minutes we had a nice two top in the dining room, as far as I could tell the lounge would also have been fine and not a "high table." The decor is well sorted and the bar and lounge are both inviting. Our server was pleasant, if a bit abrupt. I ordered a Sazerac, and madame a glass of white from Healdsburg's J Vineyards. Oddly the selection of local wines is limited, but corkage is an option. Drinks took a while. The menu is rather limited. The fish choices (salmon, swordfish, halibut) were not all that interesting, so I plumped for the lamb shank, and La Portena ordered the pork chop. We decided to share our apps - the beet roulade and the "colossal crab salad" - market priced at $25. Our server returned with the first disappointment - they had run out of lamb shank. So I ordered the steak, a significant upsell, but my neighbor's strip had looked excellent on the plate. The charming bus person showed up - offering grissini and a choice of breads - I asked for the sweet brown roll, La Portena had the cream cheese roll. Neither was particularly distinguished, but the grissini were excellent - make sure to have those. The beet roulade was superb - filled with honey ricotta but not cloyingly sweet. It was also a good value - under $10 for a large portion. The crab was sweet and fresh, barely dressed, topped with micro greens. But it was not comprised of the colossal chunks I had hoped for at the price, just ordinary flakes of lump backfin. There was a significant delay between the two courses, allowing for a second bread selection - the onion focaccia (possibly with rosemary) was outstanding. Have that. I would also mention that even though a proper butter knife adorned our bread plates, no butter seemed to be on offer. The porkchop was plump, perfectly cooked, and adorned with bok choy, a sort of ginger soy jus and a fingerling potato. The steak came with Hassselbeck potato - slit crosswise and coated with a bit of cheese, as well as a sliced artichoke heart and a sort of homemade A-1. The steak was on point, but the cut was disappointing, smaller than my neighbor's, and not of uniform thickness. It was nearly double the price of the porkchop and nowhere near as good. Our two courses had taken nearly two hours, and we were full, so we skipped dessert or cheese and I cannot report on those. To sum up, the good outweighs the problematic. The Krebs is a beautiful restaurant for a special occasion. Our table was in an alcove and felt private and elegant. I likely would have scored the restaurant higher had it not been for the less-than professional service. I do have several good things to say about the Krebs, but let's start where it fell short. When I go to restaurant where some prices are north of $50 an entree, I would expect that the servers would have intimate knowledge of the menu. At least if they don't know, then be polite and forward about let me find out for you. A restaurant of this caliber should focus on staff training and Mangement let the ball down. If they don't care about the face to the customer, what else is not being cared for. Both our servers seemed to be in their first week on the job. For instance, have they been trained where and how to place flatware? Each replacement setting at our table was place differently - not a huge deal but really? Our server cleared our appetizers with a rush and specifically asked us if we were ready for our entrees, implying that they were ready or almost ready. It then took over 30 minutes for them to be brought out. The service was generally slow until the end when they needed out table and the manager and hostess lurked around trying to hush things. Now the food. Generally, I think the food was well prepared and nicely presented. We were 2 couples and each couple shared an appetizer. The server said they would have the kitchen split the appetizers, but they didn't and didn't bring us utensils to split. So it was awkward. The Smoked Escarole salad didn't taste smoked but rather seemed wilted and old. The octopus and calamari salad was drenched in oil. The fish was good but the arugula greens on the plate were soaked in oil. The portion was large and the dish was tasty. We each had our entree. Two had the scallops, and they were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented. We also had the pork rolande, which was excellent, and the chicken pot pie, which was very good, a bit over salty and not a lot of chicken. The vegetables were overcooked. Came here with my girlfriends for a reunion dinner. I have to say the restaurant interior design is so different from the outside. It juxtaposes the quaint, rural town. The service was impeccable, our server Bell was phenomenal. We said we loved the bread and she packed some for us to take! We ordered the swordfish, burrata and carrot bisque. My favorite has to be the carrot bisque. Our main were salmon and cod. The risotto was beautifully done. I will definitely come bk next time for brunch or dinner! OK the restaurant is beautiful, there is no argument about that. Fact is more than beautiful, it is downright incredible. The pictures will show that. The service at this restaurant was not pretentious but their ability could change from point to point. Certainly they were very good at explaining the menu. At the same point, when we were at the restaurant the restaurant was at the best 50% full. Yet it would take forever for us to have a busboy or a waiter come to our table. All of the people there were very likable. YET, after finishing our first bottle of an extremely expensive bottle of wine we explained we wanted to slow down a bit. What we meant, and what we made clear to the waiter was bring us another glass for each of us when we were receiving our entree. This last glass although not as expensive as our earlier bottle, was not cheap, Regardless, we did not receive the last glass until our meal was almost finished. Not down right bad service, just not as good as it should be. Food presentation was very pretty, but then I have seen beautiful presentation starting in 1982. So yes from the surface each course was an "A", perfect but not unusual. Presentation, at least for me can only go so far. To me, no matter how beautiful the presentation, the amount of food is just as if not more important. At least to me. I realize it seems the majority of critics are thrilled by the food, my wife and I were not one of those. I am just not impressed by the actual taste off most of what I ate. Nothing was bad, but most of what I ate although presented well did nothing to make me want to come back for. Although in entertainment it is always better to leave with the audience wanting more. I do not feel the same about restaurant customers leaving wanting more. After two orders of a lobster salad, one order split on a warm appetizer similar to a gnocchi, two entre' and a dessert split, a bottle of wine, plus two more glasses we were finished ordering. It still took another twenty minutes to receive the bill. As I said service ability changed from moment to moment. Everything about our dining experience rated five stars. Every dish as well as the drink was superbly made and presented, and delicious. The parsnip soup and the French onion soup in particular were creative and amazingly delicious. All the staff were welcoming, helpful and enjoyable to talk with, especially our server Trevor. When I said I'd like to try a drink I never had before, he said that if I didn't like it they would make something else for me. The paintings, the decor and the ambience were perfect. In particular, I was glad to be in a restaurant where I didn't have to shout above the din of noise. The deviled eggs with fried pork belly had huge chunks of undercooked, chewy pork on top of bland, under seasoned deviled eggs. Others had the tenderloin as entrees and it was good. I wish I could give two different ratings- one for the meal and one for the service because the two experiences were very different. We LOVED the dishes (hands down some of the best food I've ever had). (Loved that strawberry dessert!) But the service was mediocre and at times very unprofessional for such an expensive restaurant. You expect much more when paying more than $100 a person. It started with very cold air blowing at our feet from a vent below our seat (not a great place for air conditioning to blow out). We asked to move but instead the host Insisted on turning it down but it never really did. She should have just moved us when we said we were uncomfortable. For a high-end restaurant- just do what the customer asks! The place was half empty. ! Then the wait staff were not very professional ...and at times acted like they didn't know what to do. Our waiter was extremely chit-chatty with other diners and took a LONG time to come to our table to even take our drink order. It felt as though the kitchen was backed up and the wait staff were intentionally slowing down service and dragging out every course (if this wasn't the case on Friday evening, July 31, then you might want to talk to your staff). It was just annoyingly slow. Then the runners switched our meals with the couple next to us. Then our waiter talked over our table to the lady next to me (she and I were both confused as to who he was talking to). Then the waiter mixed up our table's final bills! Unbelievable. Fabulous. Bartenders 5 star. Renovation quite nice. Very cozy seating and true fine dining. I have dined in the original Krebs and enjoyed it very much. Especially the fresh seafood sampler. The new owners, I've been told, were not interested in any of Kreb's original recipes. IMHO they should have gracefully accepted them for reference, as a matter of courtesy and possible recipe riffing. That said, the chef and owners clearly know what they are doing. I sympathize with younger diners on price, but I may be able to offer some friendly advice on menu navigation. Fresh oysters fabulous. We shared the chefs choice with wine pairing- and it was plenty of food. When asked if we could change a few choices - no problem! Watermelon salad. Crab cocktail. Duck breast. Chocolate desert. The real treat was an expert Sommelier who pared wines beautifully and he easily provided extra value in both taste and choice. In short, excellent fine dining.
