This is not what you expect from Millennium. I am guessing they bought it and have not gotten around to renovating yet. Otherwise, they figure it is not worth sinking money onto it. Falling apart, dated, worn out, dirty, smelly, and the service is lacking. I do not want to walk on this carpet without shoes, will not sit in these chairs, and I am fearful of what the bed looks like below the sheets. God help us if there is a fire or earthquake. The floorplan is meandering, confusing, and the walk from the elevators to my room is 5 scary minutes. I am not sure what else Anchorage has to offer, but unless you are happy with motel 6 quality, book somewhere else. OK, now that I have been in the room for some hours, I feel an update is in order. Opened the window because the stink was getting overpowering. That allowed the cold and noise from traffic in. So I turned on the heater, which made more noise than the traffic, loud enough to drown out the TV. Decided to get in the bed to be warm and discovered the pillows are older and lumpier than I am. OK, I thought I would make some coffee, but although there is a coffee maker, there is no coffee pot. Come on Millennium, this is some kind of sick joke. $200 per night, please. I really enjoyed the food, I had the Halibut Crab Cakes and the Pear Salad. Food is very enjoyable. Service was awesome, Jason was my server both in the restaurant and again the next day in the bar. If I go again, I would sit in the bar, it's more lively. The main restaurant is too small and stale. What is up with those uniforms? Brown? Really? If I could give zero stars I would. The one star comes from our nice server. We ordered pitchers and $15 nachos. The nachos came and was a pile of sad chips. There was maybe an ounce of toppings on top. So overpriced and gross. The manager offered 15 percent off and then came out at said "we saw you ate half of your nachos" we were upset cause that's how it came out- half of what it should have been. Don't go here. We stayed two nights in two different rooms and in both rooms the AC barely worked which was such a bummer. The rooms were clean however. The hotel itself is nice with cool animals around. The Flying Machine Restaurant has very good food but beware it is overpriced. They have a very good Sunday brunch with a large selection of items such as Crab, Shrimp, Halibut and etc, but it will set you back almost $30 bucks a head. They also serve a fabulous spread on Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas but be prepared to pay though the nose, over $40 bucks a head on special occasions. read more

Hotel was nice and quite. The beds were also very comfortable and restaurant was good. Was a little frustrated that I had asked for NO down-feathered pillows to be in our room but there were and I had to wait for them to bring me regular pillows (I'm very allergic) and then when they did come they just brought one set so the person in the other bed still had down pillows in the room. That's not how allergies work, I can't have any in the room. However, since I was lucky enough to not have an allergy "episode" I didn't fuss and overall enjoyed the hotel. My husband and I are on our 9th day at the Lakefront. We check out tomorrow and are sad to leave. The hotel and rooms are exceptionally clean. I am extremely picky with cleanliness and have had no complaints. The staff has been exceptionally friendly and helpful. The shuttle was very helpful as well. My only real complaint is the bathroom door in our room. It doesn't set against the wall so I can see the tv from the toilet. Which means whatever you may be doing in there can be heard. Been married 21 years and don't like hubby hearing my goings on in the bathroom. The restaurants are quite good. I especially enjoyed The Flying Machine. The food is very good and the beer and wine selection is good as well. There is usually live music which just adds to the charm. This seems to be a favorite spot of the local community. While the servers are very friendly the service is very slow. Having been in management I feel it is understaffed at all times. With the number of patrons they could surely have more help. However I enjoyed the view of the lake still much I tolerated the wait. Overall we would return to this hotel. This is Alaska and nothing here is as the lower 48. While we love 4 star hotels we appreciate that Alaska is its own little planet and deserves to be treated as such. read more

I arrived late Monday night, at 10 PM to the hotel. I asked the front desk twice to make sure and give me a wake up call at 3:50 a.m. as I had a 4 hour drive to Homer, Alaska to get to a hospital for an important surgery where they were using my product. The call NEVER came to my room. In addition, The temperature in my room when I went to bed was 74° so I turned it down to 69°. I woke up at 4 AM on my own because I set my own alarm, and heat was pumping into my room and the temperature has risen to 77°. I was upset and stopped at the front desk and left a message for the manager, Greg Beltz, to call me so I could tell them what had happened and my just pleasure at them not following through on my request for a wake up alarm. The manager, Greg Beltz, never called, so the next day I wrote the him (Greg Beltz) a message and left it at the front desk for him to call me. Greg Beltz, after two full days has yet to contact me about this important matter. I spend thousands of dollars to come up to Alaska, and it is critical that I am on time or patients' lives lie in the balance. It is very poor service to not only not place the wake up call to my room (and have heat approaching 80 degrees in my room), but to ignore repeated messages asking for the manager to call me to discuss. And this is my 4th stay here, so One would think they should value my business. Greg Beltz and mgt just don't care! On day 3 I believe the mgr left me a voicemail in my room. However, the answering machine appears to be faulty / broken as well, so unfortunately I can not retrieve the message. I went to the front desk and told them yesterday I have a message, presumably from the manager, but the unable to listen to it. I gave the front desk clerk my cell phone number to give to the manager and they said he would call me after he finishes his meeting. It's day 4 and I have to talk with them. As if this whole fiasco I call an experience weren't bad enough, my 5:30AM shower had barely lukewarm water, so I quickly cut that short as well. You probably should talk to mgt, if you can get ahold of anyone, before you follow through with booking your stay at The Lakefront Anchorage. These types of stays and lack of customer service are not the norm. read more

Good: Convenient location by the airport, close to downtown without being in the middle of it, large hotel with a rustic feel (rustic, not old - which was surprising). The rooms are large and the beds comfortable. The shuttles run 24/7 to and from the airport which is awesome. The staff is friendly - especially housekeeping. Sweetest ladies ever! Bad: our room was on the opposite end of the hotel from the lobby. It felt like a mile walk by the time we made it to our room. I'm sure the views are beautiful, unfortunately our view was of the outside wall of another hotel. Check in took about 30 minutes. read more

I went back and forth about giving this place 2 or 3 stars. I am giving it 3 based on the price I paid for the room. I spent 2 nights here after a cruise before heading home. The prices of hotels in Anchorage this time of year are astronomical so I used priceline and got this hotel. I am pleased with it based on what i paid ($115/night), but if I payed full price ($249) I would be extremely disappointed. The hotel is outdated, but this seems to be the norm around town. The room is a very nice size and it was great to sit out on the patio & grab a beer while watching the float planes take off. The front desk was friendly enough. My major complaint was with the shuttle service downtown. They told us it goes at 11am, 1p, 5p, 8p. We were 10 minutes early for the 5pm and at 5 and 10 after we inquired with the concierge and front desk. The story changed a couple times - delayed, was coming back, already left, etc. We gave up and shared a cab with 2 other people leaving. One shuttle arrived to drop off people from the airport and took off before we could ask about going downtown. When he returned a few minutes later, we were told we missed the d-town shuttle. On that note, the airport shuttle was great. read more

Coolest hotel on the block. It is one of the fineer hotels in Anchorage and definately the nicest this close to the airport. Large rooms and quiant decor gives it a real "Alaska" feel. The Flying Machine resteraunt is located in the lobby for when those cold winter nights keep you staying indoors. read more

I guess my expectations were a lot higher for this hotel due to the family of hotels it's associated with so that's one of the reasons for only two stars. Another reason for two stars are the rooms. Our room, while spacious is decorated circa 1983. The carpets are old and stained. The furniture looks like it came straight out of my in-laws mountain cabin and that includes the 26 inch tube TV. The bathroom is rather odd, the toilet and shower are in one area while the two separate sinks are divided into two areas. The wallpaper is coming off the walls, the baseboards that are present need paint as does most of the hotel. The bed is rather surprisingly comfortable but that's where the amenities end. The price and location are the real cause for celebration but overall the Millenium hotel needs a centuries worth of updates. read more

The hotel is very nice and confortable but after I paid the hotel on Expedia the hotel starts changing my credit card, for no reason first they start with 96$ and the next day 167$ So I block my card right away when I called the front desk they told me that I was not the first customer who complained about it , what is so weird is that the two times that I got charged was just after I paid for something in the restaurant so I paid 3$ and after that they charged my card for 96 the same the next day, is a shame that the reputation of the hotel will go bad for some people who don't know what they doing or they did this in purpose to get the money for their self read more

Our stay at the Lakefront was enjoyable, affordable and super convenient. Our stay was in late March in the middle of a significant snow week and so the views were phenomenal. Our positive experience started with the free airport shuttle arriving promptly to pick us up, the super-friendly and knowledgeable staff and the clean and well appointed room. We purchased the pre paid breakfast option and are very glad we did, not only was it a significant saving fro the base menu price, but the breakfast were delicious and the breakfast hours were long which allowed you to linger and not have to rush. The Enterprise car rental place is literally across the street, again, very convenient but make sure you pre reserve for great savings. We will definitely stay here again. read more

Perhaps they were just having a bad day... when we checked in, the computer system was down, and after checking us in on paper and giving us keys, when the computer system came back online at around midnight, the front desk rang and rang our phone, which after a long travel day we didn't appreciate or answer, then sent somebody up to bang on our door, then tried to open our door!! The next morning we found out it was security trying to give us our new keys since their computer system was now up and running! We then tried to eat at the restaurant which had a long wait just to get in. Long story short, after seeing people around us send their orders back, and when no one had even taken our order 20 minutes after sitting down, we left. read more

I can see this hotel was built to a very good standard long time ago but now it is a bit too old and run-down for the expected standard it advertised itself at. The elevator was slow and makes squeaky sound when used. Still I could not ask more for the price I paid for it. Friendly management. Reasonable and helpful. Clean room and facilities. It's clean and and close to the airport, but that's all this hotel has going for it. I couldn't get any water warmer than just above freezing, told them about it, and nothing changed. They wanted me to "just leave the water running" after 10 minutes straight, like that was going to change anything. I shivered through my shower and bought some dry shampoo for the next day. Miserable. The wifi was super spotty and disconnected every 3 minutes or so, or wouldn't connect at all, depending on where I was in my room. I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone unless it was the middle of summer and you had a penchant for float planes...and even then you could just visit, no need to stay here. read more

Spent my birthday weekend here. Every employee I came across was so very nice and helpful. The front desk was always friendly and quick to help when we needed it. Especially with our early arrival, they allowed us to stay in a room until ours was completely ready, I rarely come across that kind of courtesy and hospitality. Definitely a place I would stay at again. They even held my icecream in their freezer down stairs so it wouldn't melt (I'm sure they don't do that often so I really appreciated it lol). Pictures of this hotel posted online at sites like hotels.com should receive an award for special effects. Nothing like what's pictured. Walls and ceilings so paper thin, I could hear every guests movements above and around me all night long. The guests above me in room 3014 were so loud I actually worried they were destroying their room. After I stood outside their room to verify it was, in fact, coming from them, I let the front desk know. There was no improvement. Attempts to call down to the front desk were met with endless ringing. I literally had to call the hotel on my cellphone to get in touch with the front desk. While a lounge and a restaurant are advertised, there is only the lounge in the evening, which is so disorganized that two tables near me came and left without being acknowledged. It is also open to the general public and attracted the bar crowd far more than it did hotel clientele. All food items tasted processed, as if from a package or can, but the average price of menu items was $15. The Wifi never did work, I tried 3 different devices continuously for two hours and again the next morning and none would connect. There are no signs directing guests to locations of vending or ice machines, so I had to wander aimlessly down hallways on multiple floors before stumbling into one. I had an ice bucket with no glasses, a coffee maker with no coffee or filters. The price of this room was (discounted online) to $150. I could have gotten the same experience at a YMCA. read more

I'd rather give a 2.5 but you get the idea. I'm a local staying here for a conference for 4 nights. Staff have been friendly but the hotel is tired and old feeling. Furniture is worn/old, carpet is old, toilet seat in room is chipped and yucky-looking, shower curtain is tattered, no soap dishes, old TVs, door of entertainment center fell off into my hand when I opened and so on. For the price, I expect better. Food is good but pricey. Still no free wifi but am told they are upgrading soon. Had a maid knock on my door at 7pm despite a "privacy" door tag. It's nothing fancy but was reasonably clean and quiet. If you can get it for a good price, it's not too bad. read more

When we got our room it hadn't been cleaned up yet. There were pizza boxes on the floor, the bed wasn't made, and there were dirty towels everywhere. When we called down they apologized and cleaned it promptly. I am giving it only 3 stars because the restaurant wasn't good. It took us a long time to get a waitress to take our order and when the food came it wasn't very good. It was just food. I could have made it better at home. read more

Stayed overnight at the Hotel and overall experience is a generous 1 star (I could have gotten decent night's sleep at any cheap motel than this place) Unpleasant part of the experience: - There is a lot of construction going on in many parts of the hotel building - Although this should not directly impact customers, the rooms are not completely sound proof, so you end up waking up to a LOT of construction noise in the morning - The room given to us has been newly renovated, however many electrical fixtures still needed to be hooked up and hence were not working (such as bedside reading lamp) - Their remodeling hopes to give a modern look with amenities, but their design has many flaws (such as no lock for a bathroom, anyone outside can take a peek at the potty via the slit in the bathroom sliding door) - The room was given to us very warm (at 75F) and the wall unit air conditioner did not manage to bring down the overall temperature to below 70F even after running all night in high cold mode - The carpet looked dated and dingy - Woke up with a bad neck pain from sleeping on their extremely uncomfortable mattress - Everything had a new paint/renovated smell which can get on your nerves if you intend to stay for long - They do not give wake up call service (unlike other regular chain hotels) - They do not have any room service for food - The parking does not look like a place I want to park an expensive car (and hope to see it in one piece the next morning) In all, it was an odd and unpleasant experience that ruined my night sleep with a super warm room and woke me up at unearthly hours with construction noise and made me want to get the hell out of the hotel ASAP Good stuff (which by no means top the negatives mentioned above): - Decent toiletries - Nice huge mirror - Clean room (at least ours was) - Hair dryer and iron - Pizza at the restaurant/bar was okay - Location close to airport read more

I live in Anchorage and during the summer on a sunny day there is nothing better than a deck, food and drinks. This hotel has the best deck in town, right on the lake, beautiful view, float planes landing and taking off. Unfortunately the management has never marketed this gem. It might be because the service is horrible, slow, very slow. Food is not great and if you aren't careful the bartender and server will pour the highest end liquor in your fruity drink. Unfortunately, I was forced to give this hotel one star. It deserved zero stars. We were there for a wedding in August. Got a military rate of &199 plus tax. Regular room rate was $269 plus tax. The room was old. The air-conditioning barely worked. As soon as we walked down the hall from the lobby we could feel warm, humid air. Best yet, I could not run my hair dryer and the air-conditioner at the same time. Twice they blew the circuit. Twice we had to wait for maintenance to flip it back on. When I asked the maintenance person about it, he said I could not run the hair dryer and air-conditioning at the same time. What?? Over $200 a night and we can't run the air-conditioner and dryer at the same time? This is the worst hotel I have stayed in in recent years. The halibut basket was delicious. The service was extremely slow. Apparently it's not usually like that. There was a wedding going on outside by the lake where we were sitting but not sure if the restaurant or hotel was supporting them. It's an old fashioned hotel, but very beautiful and many windows to see the sunrise and sunset. Beds are extremely comfy and the restaurants are good. There's a gym for those who like working out. They have netflix's on their tvs and the water never gets cold in the showers. Totally recommend!!! read more

Just returned from a trip to Anchorage as a volunteer for the 2012 Iditarod. I stayed nine nights at the hotel. I feel a little bad giving them a bad review since I received a great rate as a volunteer, but that still doesn't account for things that should have worked that didn't. Here's the good and the bad: Bad: 1. The front desk never answered the phone from outside callers. I first tried calling for a shuttle pickup from the airport. I called at least five times with no answer. Finally I stood around in the 10 degree weather hoping the shuttle would show up. It did, but that was after 20 minutes. During my stay I had friends and family try to call my room, and they weren't able to get through and said nobody answered. When I called the front desk to complain, they said they were there and answering. I was not the only one with this problem. 2. Spa was shut down for maintenance. This was a huge bummer since it was cold out! 3. The website advertises a free shuttle that goes downtown. The shuttle driver told us one day it was $25, then after that we were told the shuttle didn't go downtown. ?!??!?? 4. There was a little sign in our room advertising a morning and evening coffee cart with drinks. I didn't see this once in nine days. That would have been a cool option. 5. Room key stopped working at least 3 times. 6. It's a bit run down and could use a face-lift and deep cleaning of carpets, tiles, etc. Good: 1. The restaurants are good. One did give me a blueberry bagel when I ordered lox and bagels, and they didn't seem to think that was weird. They did bring me sourdough bread when I asked, since apparently they were out of plain bagels. 2. They had live music in the bar two nights a week. Musicians were awesome. 3. Rooms were pretty good. Nice channel options on TV and the two vanity areas were nice. 4. It was fun being there for all the Iditarod action since this place is the headquarters. 5. The gift shop has cute items. If I go back I would stay for a few nights here only if I was a part of the Iditarod otherwise I would probably head downtown. read more

The staff was nice and helpful, they even let me leave a breakfast order at the front desk to have ready by 6am when I was traveling through ANC. The food in the bar is amazing!!! There is a neat polar bear skin at the front desk. This hotel makes you feel like you are in Alaska. The rooms are fine, but I could see some room for improvement for some. As a weary traveling just going to the slope for work, all I want is a fast checkin, comfortable beds, good food, and fast to/from the airport - all of these desires were met and exceeded. I just got back from Alaska and a 9 night stay at the Millennium Hotel. We were up in Anchorage to volunteer for the Iditarod and since the Millennium in the race headquarters we decided to stay there (since our volunteer shifts would be there). Overall I am happy we stayed there since it was very convenient for our volunteer schedules at the hotel. Our room was pretty nice and big, with 2 queen beds, a tv with some movie channels and a mini fridge/bar area. Everything was in working order in the room except one of the phones didn't work great (plug kept falling out of the wall). One annoying thing that kept happening was our room keys stopped working quite a bit so we'd have to keep going back to the front desk, which was about a mile down a hallway from our room- NOT kidding, so far away! At one point, I complained to security that it kept happening and so the nice man went and got new keys for me and it didn't happen again after that. The front desk people were hit or miss- some super nice and some with the personalities of dirt. None of them were that helpful or knowledgeable. Plus the phone system didn't seem to work while we were there. Our relatives kept trying to call us and could never get through to the front desk. We complained and heard a bunch of other people complain too. The 2 times our friends did get through to our room and leave a message, our phone never showed we had messages. The whole phone system didn't seem to work great. A plus was we got free internet during our whole stay and the restaurant/bar was really good at the hotel. Of course the prices are a bit high at hotel restaurants but the food was really good (especially the amazing onion rings) and their drinks where strong and large! There is a pretty view of the lake from the restaurant/bar also. Since the Iditarod was going on and this was the headquarters, I think they were a little overwhelmed with all the people. It was a happening place, full of mushers, tourist and all the Iditarod stuff set up which was exciting and very eventful. The hotel is less than 5 minutes from the airport which was nice although not that close to downtown (about a $13 cab ride). Not many food options nearby except the hotel restaurant and some fast food. There is a free shuttle to/from the airport. They also told us the shuttle went other places like downtown but it DID NOT which was disappointing. It did take us to a park one night about 10 minutes away to see the northern lights though so that was cool. Overall, I would stay there again if volunteering for the race but probably not the whole time. I'd stay somewhere near downtown so there are more food/entertainment options nearby. We got a discounted rate for being volunteers which was GREAT- I don't know if it's really worth it at the normal rate (we got about 1/2 off). We visited a friend at the Holiday Inn across the street and it looked really nice AND had free breakfast which is very nice. Oh and lastly, the hot tub was broken when we were there which we were SO looking forward to... very upset but understandable I guess:( read more
