So, this year we decided to do it again and wee drove from Kennesaw to Jasper to spend our 51st wedding anniversary just so we could eat at The Last Catch. We had never been here before and were pleasantly surprised! I had the blackened shrimp basket and the seasoning was perfect! The hush puppies were some of the best I have had! This family owned & operated restaurant is definitely one of a kind. It doesn't matter if you eat in or get take out, the customer service is always excellent & the food is fantastic! Everything I have had has been absolutely delicious! The She-Crab soup is a must have! The peel & eat shrimp are enough for a meal by themselves. The Crab Cakes are just that....actual crab cakes that are full of crab meat & low on "filler". They also come with two huge slices of fried green tomatoes. The Shrimp "Net Catch Baskets" are good any way you get them (blackened, fried or grilled). My two favorites are blackened & fried. If anyone in your party does not like seafood they also offer a "things that don't swim" section on their menu, listing steak, burgers & sandwiches. The generous portions are priced more than reasonable for the amount of food you get. Remember to ask about the catch of the day!!! After a day in the mountains we stopped here for dinner on Saturday night. We thought it was a catchy name (get it, catchy? ;)) and they were open until 9pm for dinner. I knew I wanted a salad so we ordered that as soon as we were seated, once our server greeted us. In addition to the salad, our server left us a specials board that each table gets. There were a list of different fishes on the specials menu. When my husband asked about the freshness of the trout and the catfish; the server responded that neither of them were fresh and previously frozen. We both looked at each other in puzzlement since we thought that's what we would get a fish restaurant called the last catch. My husband even asked me why we were there if they didn't have fresh fish. I didn't have an answer. We agreed on catfish filet with Cajun seasoning. Dinner entrees come with sides and we chose hushpuppies and rice, sausage and beans. Before the food arrived, our server placed crab dip with crackers on our table, as is normal for all tables. The dip's serving is small enough but a good start on the house. The dip itself had few meager pieces of crab in it but it was seasoned perfectly, a good start to eat with crackers and we were starving so we probably liked the dip more than on another day, maybe. My salad had an option for homemade dressing so I chose that on the side. The salad came out before the fish. The salad came with lettuce, pickled pepper, onions, tomato and onions and tasted fine. The fish was cooked exactly the way it should've been, it was moist (and not over cooked) and seasoned very well with Cajun spices. The hush puppies were freshly fried, seasoned very well as well and tasty. The rice & sausage side was the least memorable because it was bland. One thing is true about this north Georgia restaurant. Being minorities, we definitely stood out in the group. Absolutely no one was offensive, mean or rude but since we were not from there and did not patronize the location often to be recognized by the staff of other patrons, we got some looks. Be prepared for that. Again it isn't offensive and no one was rude. Being called the Last Catch, if you're waiting for life altering fish dinner then this isn't the place to go. If you're looking for down home service, food and environment, this is a good spot. The ambiance is very rustic, cabiny and appropriate for the mountains. I know this is a seafood place (and with a good variety on the menu), but we ordered hamburgers! I got the grilled mushroom/swiss cheeseburger, and my husband got a regular cheeseburger. They were both outstanding --moist and flavorful with a fat slice of tomato and nice pile of shredded lettuce. Probably among the best burgers we have ever had. The homemade onion rings were perfect. The crab dip appetizer was so good I could eat it with a spoon. The atmosphere is rather quaint, eclectic coastal and the service is quick and friendly. Have been here a few times now and had such a great experience today! First of all, everyone is SO FRIENDLY! We had just flown in on a red eye flight so they gave us complimentary crab dip. My mom and I split the Black and Bleu Salmon (special) and a grilled shrimp sandwich and we were in heaven! Everything was so fresh and wonderful. What a wonderful find! I was looking for a restaurant that was half way between my sister's home and mine where we could meet for lunch. From the food to the staff, it was all amazing. The crab soup, shrimp po boy, hush puppies and our favorite, the blackened shrimp gyro. Not sure what seasoning they use but it's perfect, not spicy, not burnt, not heavy, just flavorful. A good mixture of wine and beers as well. I've been here twice now. Both times I ordered the fried oyster basket. The oysters are very good, great flavor, soft not chewy. The side items are average, The best is the hush puppies. The second visit as I was eating the oysters I bit down on a piece of shell about 1/2" large - it had batter attached on it so it definitely was on the outside. I brought it to the attention of my server. She let the manager know. But the manager didn't come talk to me until I asked for her. She was condescending in her response. I was told that it was VERY common, she's had 35 years in the restaurant business and was from Charleston. And I'm sorry that happened to you but it's common, and some people even find pearls. Then she offered me a piece of Key Lime pie. I was taken aback. What I expected was: I'm sorry, I'll speak to the kitchen staff so they're more careful and thank you for bringing it to my attention. Instead I was talked to like I was a not knowledgeable of seafood and had no experience. The situation went from bad to worse how it was handled. I've been eating fried oysters for at least 25 years and I've never had a piece of shell. Ever. It's a shame how poorly this was handled the closest halfway decent seafood restaurant is 20 miles away but I doubt we will come here again. read more

Why I rate so high, flavor on the plate. Great service with attention, best tea I've had in awhile. Intimate enough for romantic, but can provide room for a group. Apps were great too. It was recommended by a person on our sports league in Holly Springs Ga. we tried it for lunch.. it was excellent, fresh seafood in Georgia is almost unheard of! Excellent customer service during these unprecedented times! One of us had the fish blackened taco lunch special, It was more than enough with fresh corn type salsa topping. The sides were large fresh cut french fries and cole slaw. The second one had a flounder sandwich and it was excellent ! On a sidenote.. Come ON CDC allow these mom and pops to open fully.. they have booth type seating and the last time we looked this was the USA .. let 'US" make the choice on what we want vs keeping these mom and pops at less than half seating! We drove close to an hour for some fresh seafood and on a work night too. My son had just returned from being out of town and it was game on for seafood night. We were gonna eat and eat and eat more. That was the plan. Cute little place in a small little town. Walk in the door and get thrown into the bar and hostess stand. Our first words were "awesome, we can eat oysters at the bar". We were immediately greeted with a young lady who boldly says "no, you can not". The owner doesn't allow that! She then proceeded to grab a few menus and take a turn to the right while saying "I'll seat you at a table for your dinner". I said "what if we would like to sit at the bar", no, the owner doesn't like it and I don't want to make her mad. Oh ok. Hum. I ask my party of 2 (3 including me) if they were ready to leave. I didn't like that attitude, at all. They said no and we stayed. I'm not in the mood for this anymore. So here we go .... ordered me a water and then a drink from the bar and a couple dozen oyster and some she crab soup. Should've stopped right there. That was good but the rest of the meal is nothing to brag about. The O rings could not be picked up since the batter didn't stick at all, the seafood platter, ehhhhhh nah. Captain D's quality. The other couple that was leaving when we arrived had the same experience. We heard it all. The same waitress who didn't allow us to sit at the bar told them that there wasn't much she could do about it and offered them a salad to go?????????? Um, no, I said the food was bad, cold as a matter of fact and I don't want any more of it. The waitress said it was out of her control. I will say that we spent over 100.00 and the best part was how entertaining it is to watch a small gem like this be tainted with such horrible service. She said the owner wasn't there so, I guess when the boss is away, the cat will play. Thanks for the oysters!
