Very lucky to work with people who not only love food but love to share their love of food. Visited The Left Bank in November. Service from the bar to the dining room was top notch. We are an "order one of everything" type of group and that's exactly what we did. I could not get enough of each bite. The flavors were on point with everything cooked to perfection - nothing over and nothing under. The pork tenderloin with a Grand Marnier cranberry sauce and chèvre mashed potatoes was definitely my favorite. Probably one of my all time favorite bites. However, despite the pictures below, the desserts left much to be desired. The saving grace was when they brought out ice wine that my travel companion and I were unable to try in our adventures the day before in Canada. It was sweet and delicious. Yay for wine! read more

Always love a night out here and generally try to make that happen several times a year. Staff is fantastic and the menu reliable albeit a little carb heavy and dated. Would love to see a bit more inspiration especially on the soup salad appetizer side. With that said, for the ambience the quality of food and service it's a five star evening out. Doing a great job given the overhead of running a fine dining establishment while keeping guests feeling special and keeping it affordable as a treat every few months. Went here for a family members 70th bday. The service was a little slow, but expected, because it was busy, but it was very good. The bar area is nice and large, but the seating area, not so much. This place is very loud when it's full. I was with 3 other people, and we had to practically yell across the table to one another. The food and presentation was very good. It was beautiful outside, I wish we could of chose to eat on the patio, which was offered to us, but we chose to decline. There are 2 small parking lots next to the restaurant that we we're lucky to get into. Would I go here again? Absolutely. The prices for the food were decent, considering the high praise this place gets. This place was very clean and all the staff I came across were very nice. This place is super popular - it was very busy on a Friday night at 8:15. We didn't have reservations but thankfully they had one table available by the bar. It was very loud in the restaurant, but it does have a cozy, romantic vibe. The staff was friendly and attentive. We shared the bruschetta of the day which was good but a little cheese-heavy. For entrees. I had the penne "au poivre" and my dining partner had the penne all'arrabiatta. Both were pretty good but HUGE portions - I highly recommend sharing one dish; you will still have leftovers. We saw a lot of people leaving with to go boxes. I decided to book a reservation here for my parter and I's anniversary because we've heard such great things about left bank and I just wanted to treat him to a nice meal. Surely, you can imagine my surprise when it ended up being one of the most subpar dining experiences of my life... Left bank.. more like I wish I Left my money in my Bank account and did not spend it here. Upon walking in, I immediately felt a negative presence. Despite us dressing very sexy and being very polite and quiet, we felt judgmental eyes on us from customers sitting at the bar oddly enough. They were not laughing or having fun, but instead hating on us. As we were being sat, I noticed the odd layout... massive area for the bar which was mostly empty, and then just a really cramped dining room. Didn't get an option to sit on the patio though who knows if it'd be any better. The seats were uncomfortable and now let's talk about my biggest gripe: the paper tablecloths. Thick, loud paper tablecloths. On top of standard fabric tablecloths. At a 3 out of 4 dollar signs restaurant? It made my partner wish for crayons and made me feel just bad. I think my drink splashed around a bit on the way over so it left a red ring on the paper tablecloth after they sat it down so it then looked like I was a sloppy sipper but I did NOT spill. The complimentary bread was a nice touch but the tomato oil immediately dribbled on the paper table cloth and further brought me down. But anyways, we ordered the fondue for two to start. Twin filet mignon for my parter. Carrot Paparadelle for me. Then we waited and waited and waited... luckily, we are madly in love and were able to laugh and talk amongst ourselves. Not sure how an unhappy couple could make it through such wait times. We finally got our fondue and wow. I would come back and suffer through this experience again just for the fondue. Was just sooo good. But it is just melted cheese.. I mean cmon. Hard to mess up. Then we waited plenty more before getting our entrees. My parter ordered the steak medium and unfortunately got it well done. I told him, "hey, maybe this is one of the times where you say something... this is an expensive meal and special occasion". He was too hungry, couldn't wait any longer - so we said whatever and ate it. My carrot paparadelle was pretty lackluster, despite seeming to be a favorite menu item among others. The seafood pasta I've had at Billy Club is much better and honestly just about everything there is better. Also the decor kinda sucked and my partner said the water was "mid". Went for dinner with some.buds and really enjoyed my meal. We all did, fact. I had the Linguine, which came with chicken, chorizo, mushrooms, sun-dried tomatoes, olive oil & fresh basil ($26). It was delicious. Probably one of the most well-balanced pasta dishes I've ever had. We also had an appetizer of Focaccia and we choose the Marco ($15), which had chicken, portobello and other good stuff on it. I was very impressed with my experience here. I've been wanting to try this place out but never as the chance. We didn't have reservations so we showed up at 5pm and there was already a line. We waited at the bar and ordered drinks while we waited. The restaurant didn't look like very much from the outside but trust me, it looks way better on the inside. I'm not a huge fan of cheese but the Tortellini was recommended and I'm glad I had the chance to try it. It was super creamy and rich. The sauce has mushroom, spinach, garlic, and red pepper while the toasted bread crumbs complemented the dish very well. I also ordered the salmon and it was delicious. I opted to have it well done so it was a little crispy. The salmon was full of flavor and not fishy at all. Overall, I would highly recommend this place. It does get busy so I recommend making a reservation or getting there early to sit on the patio. Our waitress (don't remember her name) was very sick and attentive. One downside was that the food took a while to come out but I believe it was worth the wait! read more

I met a friend here on Monday for a drink and some takeout and we had a great time. I ordered the cheese tortellini for dinner and the rice and beans with chorizo for lunch the next day. The portions were GENEROUS, and the food was really good. I honestly ate rice and beans for two days because it was really that much! I will say that I was surprised by how soupy the consistency was, the meal still hit. And the dishes were reasonably priced. Highly recommend. read more

My partner and I came to the left bank for my birthday dinner. It was highly recommended by coworkers of mine, and did not disappoint. We had a reservation for 8:45pm on a Friday and it was very busy. You are started with water and some sourdough bread with butter and a tomato oil, which was good. We didn't get any appetizers, but we saw them brought to other tables and they looked delicious. I got the Panko crusted chicken cutlets and they were incredible. The portion sizes are huge and very shareable. My partner got the salmon and was able to alter it to fit his dietary restrictions without issue. Our waitress was perfect. The only thing that was negative was how loud it was. We were sat near the far wall and there was a larger party by the window that was screaming and shouting. It was so loud, my partner and I couldn't hear each other from across our small table. The wait staff apologized to us for the noise, so it seems that this was not typical. Next time we will try to sit outside on the patio I think. Overall, still 5 stars! read more

A little disappointed this time. We ordered 2 apps, the bruschetta and the stuffed portabella. The portabella was excellent, however, the bruschetta was not. Totally burnt on the bottom. I like the ends, but I couldn't even bite thru them. Who ever baked this, never should have sent this out, they knew it was burnt. My halibut was ok, a little dry tho. Can't speak on the other 2 dishes. My friend asked about the Sangria,was it homemade, sweeter, etc. It came out in an on the rocks type of glass with only an orange slice. My husband took me to the left bank for a surprise birthday dinner! I have always wanted to check this place out and so glad we finally were able to! We went during Christmas time so the restaurant was decorated for the holidays with a lovely Christmas tree, and string lights in the bar area and throughout the dinning room! I ordered the salmon for dinner, which came with rice and broccoli and it was delicious and one of the best salmons I have ever ordered! The salmon was perfectly flaky and cooked just right! The service was incredible and the food came out fairly quickly after we were finished ordering! The waiter was so pleasant, and friendly and gave wonderful recommendations for first time guests! First time visitor here-had not heard much about left bank before our visit. I was surprised to see the number of positive reviews here because our experience was unfortunately a 1/5 across the board-food, service & ambiance. Service: From the moment we walked in, we were greeted coldly by the host who hardly acknowledged us. Our server then took 10+ minutes to greet our table and was inattentive throughout the duration of our meal. Food: Incredibly slow wait times for everything. We weren't impressed by anything we ordered across the board-apps & entrees. Ambiance: Because all of the staff were unfriendly it contributed to an uncomfortable ambiance. In addition, it's been freezing in Buffalo and the resturant itself was cold as well. read more

Omg. SO OVERRATED cocktails - ordered a French 75. Was shaken and poured in a martini glass! She shook all the bubbles out and is supposed to be served in a flute. Soup - as thick and heavy as bad gravy Appetizer - artichoke tomato concoction. As big as a house and made with an unripe beefsteak tomato. Barely red Dinner - asparagus as thick as my thumb. And fibrous as a tree trunk. With bland steamed carrots. Filet covered with mushrooms cooked within an inch of their life, in thick gelatinous gravy and soggy bacon. Enough to parch a whole in the wall. Oh - table spilled a Guinness almost on us. No one cleaned it up. Smelled like an English pub $240 for 2! 1/4 of $1000. Have a right to complain. It's curious to me why Left Bank is so well reviewed, as the food and drink leave MUCH to be desired. The ambiance is really the best thing about this place. TLDR; Cocktails were strong and tasteless, no balance to them at all, just totally lackluster. The food is overly sauced and overly salted and completely unimpressive, not to mention some don't even use Italian ingredients (two of our dishes were more Mexican and Japanese). Overall everything was very lackluster. And honestly, it wouldn't have scored so low if the prices weren't so high, but that just makes the standard you expect equally as high. -- We started at the bar and ordered a couple of their tequila-grapefruit cocktails (the name escapes me), it was a special. It was basically straight tequila. I couldn't even taste the grapefruit or soda, which I imagine maybe it was just splashed with. We asked her to top it off with more juice, which didn't help, so she ended up seeing us struggle drinking and took it to reshake with more grapefruit, which dulled it a smidge, but ultimately didn't change the balance or overall flavoring. It was a terrible drink. My friend ended up ordering a mojito at the table, which I still found overwhelmingly tasteless. For starters, we had the calamari and bruschetta to start; the former was delicious, the later was just a glorified mini cheese steak, not particularly tasty, but not bad. I also ordered the soup special with langoustine-- it was apparently a miso base with lemongrass (ergo, Japanese). It was good, but nothing particularly exciting. Entrees: My husband ordered the ravioli special, which looked like an oversized enchilada (and actually tasted like one too; aka Mexican) -- It was just one giant piece of pasta folded in half, not even pinched on the sides, or square in shape at least. It was rectangular and huge and open on both ends. It was pretty tasty, but it was absolutely drenched in cheese sauce, and again, not very Italian. They used Monterey Jack and green chili peppers with chicken, which is a classic Mexican casserole dish. SUPER weird to me. I ordered the Carrot Papardella with lobster, shrimp and crabmeat I only had a handful of bites, it was just way too salty for me. You couldn't even taste the seafood, it was just overpowered by the seasoning and the very greasy butter sauce. The beautiful vine covered brick wall and our peppy server were really the highlights, outside of the company. No plans for a return visit. There are so many better places (like Hutches down the street, which is where we went for dessert. should have gone there for dinner too!). read more

Fine dining staple ! Haven't been here in a few years but my aunt had a gift certificate , so we indulged in a post Christmas dinner . This place was packed even on a Tuesday night, but make no mistake, the service was still outstanding . Mainly an Italian inspired menu with some exceptions . Their special of the night is a singular stuffed ravioli, the size puts most lasagnas to shame! I opted for a lighter Chicken/Chorizo pasta dish..... perfectly balanced spicy garlic flavor .The house made sangria I ordered hit the spot, it was hard to refrain from ordering two of them! All around nice dinner - ambiance, food, service. We started with the calamari and the tuna tartare - the calamari portion was sizable for 4 people to share and was crispy and non greasy. The tuna tartare was fresh and delicious. Each of us got a pasta dish for our entree and the portions were BIG! I got the carrot pappardelle with seafood and it was delicious and creamy. I had leftovers for lunch AND dinner after that. Everybody at my table enjoyed their meal very much. My only tip would be for the lavender gin cocktail (I do not have the name) - avoid. People have been telling me about the left bank for years and I finally got to check it out on a Thursday evening. I made a reservation and it was easy to get in. We were seated promptly once we arrived. We all decided the apps were the most interesting so we got 4 apps to all share and a soup de jour each. I know this is a little untraditional, but the server kinda made us feel bad for ordering only apps. Once we added it up, we spent more on all these apps then we would have if each of us just got an entree, so that was just plain annoying. The soup had so much potential and ultimately fell really flat. I had a rock in mine and they left all the shiitake stems in the soup which were terrible to chew through. Like I had the gnaw a lot them and I hated it. So those things were ultimately really disappointing especially because I had heard such wonderful things about this Resturant. I liked the other apps we got for the most past. The tuna app was AMAZING. We did order the shrimp app and there were only 2 pieces of shrimp and there were 3 people so that was a disappointment again. Maybe I'd give left bank another shot in a couple years, but I am definitely not rushing back any time soon. read more

We dined here for my fiancé's birthday dinner- overall impression was good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The food was quality and you could tell it was made fresh. Each order was also a generous portion which you don't always see at higher end restaurants. If there had to be one "complaint" for the evening, it did take longer than expected for each course to arrive, however the server checked in with us frequently and our drinks were never empty. In town visiting Buffalo for the weekend and this lovely restaurant was just a block and a half from our Airbnb, and based on other reviews wanted to eat here and very glad we did! Ended up here about 9:30 on a Saturday night and sat at the bar. Enjoyed the chopped salad with tomato, cucumber and red onion-yummy and I love when a restaurant can use simple, fresh ingredients and make them all come together and taste great! The fresh bread with a tomato dipping sauce was also delicious. For a main course we shared the linguine chicken which came recommended by the bartender and it was absolutely amazing! This has been one of the best meals I have had in a long time. I ate wings and a beef on weck the night before and did not want anything fried. I started with the house salad and it was very tasty. Just a nice balsamic dressing that wasn't too overpowering. Then I got the Penne With Grilled Steak "Au Poivre" as my main dish and it was excellent. Tasted like French onion soup in the best way possible. Not too heavy and filling but good amount for one person, you could take it home if you wanted. I got a glass of wine and it was a nice compliment to my meal. The atmosphere is very pleasant, it isn't too loud and can make for a great spot to go on a weekend. However I can imagine it gets very crowded at peak times. The service was noteworthy. I was given good advice on what to order and I never felt rushed or a burden. They always were pleasant and honest which I respect in a server. If you are in the area, or close enough, you will want to give this place a try read more
