Rare 5 Star Review Great Great Food and Drinks What a wonderful place. A big hall with communal tables with a real hometown feel. The specialty here is seafood. Fried or baked its all great. I will say though my favorite dish is the chicken Mozambique. The Mozambique sauce here is some of the best I've ever had. So delicious. A great app is the fried smelts, crisp and fresh with this zesty dipping sauce. Let's do the drinks here. Cold beers and some well crafted strong drinks. Martinis here are like getting two drinks and the espresso martinis are the best. Always order them light or no baileys, real espresso. Bartenders are wonderful. Now throw in entertainment on certain nights and this place is just special spot. One of our all time favorites. You won't be disappointed but realize this isn't your typical restaurant but don't be weirded out. You go in once and you return. Forgot to mention the great prices too. Love this place. Best Fish & Chips in the area. The Buffalo shrimp pasta is outstanding. The ordering is a little strange. The bar is separate from the restaurant so you order your drinks from one person and food from another. It's not fancy but the food is outstanding and a good price. read more

Liberal Club continues to AMAZE. We dropped by for lunch and we were the opposite of disappointed. Began with their HUGE side order of onion rings... best I've ever had! And for my meal, I had shrimp Mozambique. Like most SouthCoat residents, I've dined on Mozambique-this and Mozambique-that almost everywhere. But for my money, Liberal Club has the best Mozambique. Nothing fancy about this place so don't expect that...but by far the best seafood at reasonable prices you will find around. Love the calamari, fried platters, scrod Mozambique and buffalo shrimp Pasta. Never had a bad meal here. Wish they accepted cards however. read more

As a resident of Kentucky yet born and living in Rhode Island for 50 years, I have an affection for all things local, sounds and smells of the ocean, local pizza and pastry , and of course fresh seafood. My aunts were in the seafood restaurant business in touristy Newport RI for decades, so I cut my teeth on the freshest clams, scallops, shrimp, calamari, smelts and fish you could find. Nothing was better than a fried anything straight from the fryolator. Yet the bad news is that those days are gone; the good news is Liberal Club carries on the traditions. With Covid the vibe of this 60/40 bar-restaurant is different. Spaced out tables, the bar has no seats and there is an eerie quiet to the place. Liberal Club's food stands on its own. Our family shared: - Fried Calamari in garlic and oil - Stuffie - Buffalo Chicken Pasta - Baked Stuffed Shrimp - Fried Scallop Plate - combo fried plate of scallops and whole belly clams Everything arrived hot and delicious to the table. The seafood was large and succulent and so tasty. My wife's Buffalo Chicken Pasta was spot on with just enough heat. My daughters stuffed shrimp were large and tasty but sadly lacked any seafood in the stuffing. Still good! If you still love fried and baked seafood items and are ok with a little lack of decor - right now think rowdy bar crowd without the rowdy, bar crowd or music!, go for the food because honestly that's the main event anyway! read more

I had the fried clams and shrimp platter. It was delicious, especially the clams which were large but very tender. Attentive service and a no-frills old-school interior, kind of exactly what you expect. Just remember to bring cash! (They also have an ATM just in case). My first time here , will definitely come back!!!! We ordered to two drinks draft beer and a glass of wine. When the waitress brought it over she said "that $8.25" . I had no idea what she was talking about. That's when I found out the Liberal club is two businesses. If you order alcohol you have a bar bill and if you order foods food bill. At the bar you can use your credit card and keep an open tab. The restaurant is cash only but they have an ATM in the building. First off service was great staff is very friendly and welcoming. The food while all fried was not super greasy. The onion rings were great , nice light crispy batter and fresh onion. They had a great flavor and bite to them . The orange sauce with it was tangy with a spicy kick at the end. We ordered the fisherman's platter for 2 it cost $62.00 but we had plenty of leftovers for lunch the next day. The fried clams were a good size and I got a huge amount. They were also very clean tasting clams. The fish was cooked perfectly and nice and flaky. The shrimp were huge and also cooked perfectly. The scallops were small but flavorful. The batter they use is very light and made a nice crisp coating with good flavor. It's some of the best fried seafood I have had in Fall River and the best potion sizes. read more

My family and I have been coming here forever. To me it's like a hidden gem as it's location is not on a Main Street. It's very casual with a dining room on one side and the bar on the other where you can eat as well. We usually pick the bar side because the tables are bigger and it's less crowded feeling. It doesn't have much ambience, it's pretty basic, but very clean. If you are out for tasty food, this is a great place to go! They have a very big menu that includes all kinds of different seafood dishes, chicken, veal, beef, pasta and Portuguese meals! Plus they always have some really good specials to offer too! I've come here with my family a few times throughout the years and each time it has been nothing short of excellent. Great service as well as great food. Their seafood dishes are some of the best in the area and I'd highly recommend the Shrimp, Broccoli, and Ziti dish as well as the 25 fried shrimp, just great dishes. The Liberal Club is classic, original, old school, local, authentic, everything - my favorite spot in Fall River. Was my father is law's favorite place and I think about him every time I am here. I actually happened to sit in the same booth the last time We came here with him years ago. The seafood selection is great, local and fresh. Since we are in the area often, we tend to return to our stand buys, the fried haddock (super crispy, best ever), and the fried scallop (ditto). So slip in to the wooden booth and have yourself some great New England local seafood! read more

The place smells stale and old it looks like a place Jeffrey dahmer would eat at. The service was disappointing, they only come to the table take the order then you will barely see them. If Joe Benevides cares about what happened to two senior ladies, I will be happy to tell him! The $66.95 charge for 2 meals was outrageous, since my meal I could NOT eat! It was extremely tough and loaded with fat! The waitress knew this and did nothing!! My friend's steak was taken home for her dog! I would appreciate a refund for a steak that could not be eaten!! I love this place, a secret hideaway for many. My friend introduced me to the Liberal Club last year and it's our place to meet up for lunch or dinner. I love their flounder fish and chips and the best homemade coleslaw too!!! I had the shrimp and broccoli over penne with the garlic butter sauce and of course lots of parmesan cheese... It was excellent and good comfort food on a cold day. Their clam chowder is awesome too, and they have a nice menu for everyone... One of the best restaurants I have eaten at. When I arrive, I usually order Portuguese/Kale soup which arrives hot and is very flavorful as my appetizer. I then order either Chicken Parmesan, Boneless Fried Chicken or a steak and cheese sandwich all of which are delicious and have obviously been prepared by a talented chef. On the chicken Parmesan, the pasta is cooked perfectly as well as the chicken which is juicy and tender. The ratio of chicken to pasta is just right. For the boneless fried chicken- the chicken, is juicy and tender as well as in the Parmesan. The gravy which comes with it is delectable. The mashed potatoes are mashed perfectly and taste great. The steak and cheese- the steak is sliced perfectly and put on in an abundance with some melted cheese. I would 115% recommend this restaurant to anybody in the area! read more
