For lunch, we wanted to eat out and did not want to drive far. In the tiny town of Trinidad, we found this place and were pleasantly surprised. After seeing all the pictures, I knew I had to order the mashed potato cone! Prices here are pretty affordable. Most of the food here is simple foods, such as burgers, salads, soups, and fish and chips. They also have shakes and ice cream here. There is both indoor seating and outdoor patio seating. Unfortunately for the patio, they have a sign that says "service dogs only", even on the patio. However, I am sure that people break this rule all the time, especially since there is no table service here. The place otherwise is fairly small. You order your food, pick it up, and pick a table to sit and eat at. The staff is friendly and welcoming. My family and I ordered the mashed potato cone that came with gravy, bacon, brisket, the works!! It was tasty and I loved it!! I highly recommend it!! It can really fill you up because of the mashed potatoes. Other items we ordered were the fish and chips, clam chowder bowl, and a fish sandwich. The other food items did not impress as much as the mashed potato cone, but they were fairly good also. Overall, I would recommend this place and I would come back here if I was traveling in the area. The food is affordable and good overall. Where to start....this place is amazing! Road-tripping along the coast and happen to find this gem. We ordered a few items off their menu and everything was absolutely delicious. Not really sure what all the hype was though...maybe because it's one of the only places open here on the 4th of July. The clam chowder was so thick it was like gravy and it lacked flavor. Didn't get to order it but next time I'm up for trying it), huge portions for the price, and most importantly good food. Order: Spicy fried chicken sandwich -- $11. This one was delicious. It's not very spicy but as someone who often orders spicy things and then regrets it, I thought it was just right. The fried chicken is a whole chicken breast that is fried up tender and has just the right amount of batter. It's drizzled with a hot-sauce remoulade that is not overwhelming and not too rich, and best of all, topped with BACON. Veggies and pickles were on the side. This was a winner. Cheeseburger -- Good Humboldt county burger, juicy and fresh. Choice of cheese -- I believe it was American, cheddar and pepper jack (my choice). Veggies (greens, onions) and pickles on the side (seems to be the theme here). Pros: Food is definitely good -- I didn't find that many amazing selections out in the area so I was glad to come across this. Serving / portion size is huge for the price. The restaurant has a cute patio with bistro lights. Cons: They take their sweet time but every food establishment I went to in the area wasn't exactly screaming punctuality or efficiency... a 10 minute estimate of time turned into something closer to 30-40, and it was around 1-2 in the afternoon. Location had some seedy characters wandering the lot in and out of the grocery that's across the way, but everyone was harmless. read more

My sister & i had the salmon melt, mashed potatoes waffle cone, fish & chips, & the clam chowder. The salmon melt was fresh and the avocado they add in there is a fantastic addition. The fish was lightly battered & nearly melted in your mouth! This place took the cake for BEST fish & chips I've EVER HAD! The clam chowder was so yummy! As an east coaster I've had plenty of New England clam chowder & this was compatible. Would highly recommend this quaint, adorable restaurant! Just got home from dining here with my 10yo son and friends. I ordered the All In cone and was notified they just ran out of mashed potatoes. I should have ordered something else but chose to go along with it and get fries instead. I heard the cook grumble about having run out of the one thing that dominates their menu. I should have ordered something else. My son orders the kids burger and fries and adds cheese to the fries. Picture attached of the slider that they call a kids burger and the sprinkle of cheese that was still cold. You can see the pickle cup is about half the size of the burger. A couple minutes into eating the fries my son finds a ROCK attached to one of his fries. I bring it to the front and all I get is "we will take care of it". I leave his entire tray of food with them to get it replaced. Around the time the rest of us were finished they bring a replacement order with burned fries without cheese and another tiny burger. ZERO apology or acknowledgment. No discount. No nothing for something that could have gone terribly bad because of their neglegence. read more

First of all it's locally caught rock cod- automatic A. Fresh is better than frozen but because it's so fresh it becomes a soggy fast (but just eat faster lol- problem solved). I got the meat chili. It was okay nothing too special. To top it off... ICE CREAM. I got salted caramel with brownie in their waffle cone. Soooo good. Decided to take the kids to College Cove to enjoy the scenic beach. Afterwards it started to warm up outside and I thought I would treat them to some ice cream. This place showed up as the place to go for ice cream in Trinidad, so off we went. Coming up on the building it didn't look like anything special, even though their outdoor deck seating was pretty filled up. Upon entering I noticed the murals on the wall ceiling and loved the vibe of the place. We weren't the only ones in there for ice cream as there were people before us and after us ordering ice cream. Apparently it is their own homemade ice cream, the choices were pretty limited though, my son ended up getting vanilla and my daughter got the coffee ice cream. We got two scoops which were decent sized portions, but I'm not sure it was worth the $7 price tag for each. The waffle cone was delicious though and the ice cream was creamy and flavorful. I ended up getting a glass of their root beer, which wasn't bad, but wasn't great either. The next time I go back I want to actually try a lunch option. The prices for the lunches actually seemed pretty decent for the area. The dungeness crab savory cone option seemed interesting! read more

This is a hole in the wall take out place with some seating indoor and out. Don't go there for the view, it is located in a supermarket parking lot on a busy street. The food was adequate with everything self service. I will give them credit for a very fresh salad. I did not have the mashed potatoes in a waffle cone which seems to be a specialty of theirs. Order your food and pay at the window, pick up your silverware and napkins and find a seat if you are eating there. Food comes in to-go containers that are brought to your table. The pros: we had the best pumpkin spice ice cream I've ever had. Tasty, creamy and the waffle cone was perfection. The staff was very friendly and patient; the fish was okay--nothing to write home about especially since the batter practically disintegrated when I picked up the piece, and the fries were charred: that wasn't circumstantial, their fries are always way too brown but they're not terrible. The reason I'm giving it a low rating is because of unsanitary food handling. It appears this place forswore the usage of gloves and don't even care to wash their hands? After they handed me the order I realized they forgot my ice cream so I went back. By then the line was way out the door and the lady who helped me before was ringing up a customer. After she was done and after she handled cash, touched the counter, pens, order pad and register touchscreen without washing her hands she grabbed my waffle cone bare-handed. I also observed the kid who was bagging orders grabbing the fries with his bare hands and putting them in the clam containers without washing his hands either. It's basic food handling, people! If you touch anything you can't just touch food, you have to wash your hands AND put on gloves. This type of practice would have been a bad idea before COVID, but during a pandemic? Ridiculous. Nope, not going back there. Train your staff properly. read more

I am a local, which means I come into the Grill often to either get take-out or to have a sit down meal with my grandkids. In the past I have loved the grass fed local beef cheese burger, cooked to medium. This time it was almost the worst burger I have eaten. The meat was well done, with bits of harder meat within the patty, the bun was partly soft and partly hard as if it had been left out overnight. In the past the buns were made onsite and were light as a cloud and the meat was cooked to perfection. This time the fries were soggy and limp. If there was cheese on my burger, it was thin and had cooked down into the bun and patty so as to be non-existent. Either there is a new, inexperienced cook or the demands on the restaurant are greater than its ability to provide what it has always provided in the past -- a delicious and affordable meal. read more

We started coming here years ago when it was first opened. It was amazing then and for several years but has really gone downhill. The server forgot part of the meal ( the mashed potato brisket cone), the hamburger was first "RARE" not cooked at all, then charred. The fish (cod) smelled and tasted fishy, fresh fish does not. There was no mustard (the server couldn't find it) and there was no beer! We will not go there ever again. Sad to say goodbye but yuk! We ordered the lighthouse jammin burger with the goat cheese and jalapeño jam. First to much bread for the burger. Way to much which makes it dry. Second no seasoning at all on meat. The jam was good as was the goat cheese it just couldn't overcome the giant dry bun. We also tried the beef brisket sandwich. Same story dry. The bbq sauce is on the side (wierd) and the meat had no flavor. No seasoning. The loaded mashed potato cone should have been the highlight but it wasn't. Mashed potatoes had no flavor. No salt, no pepper, no butter. The same dry brisket now in a pretty tasteless gravy. The cone itself was good and flavorful but couldn't overcome the blandness stuffed into it. We also had a garden salad, dressing had no flavor. The highlight was the french fries. Hand cut and cooked perfect. I wouldn't bother. Prices were high too. $9 for my burger no side. After a long day of driving, my boyfriend and I were excited to eat and the menu looked delicious. The wait for our food was extremely long and once we received our food, we were missing one of our sandwiches. When we asked how long it would take, the person working couldn't provide us with an estimate and had to go check with the cooks. I was understanding of this but expected her to keep us updated. After some more time without our food, my boyfriend went to the window and she gave him the same line of having to check with the cooks. We had to speak with another worker before even being told he would have the cooks START the sandwich. Our total wait was around 45 minutes for a burger and sandwich. Oh my it was so delicious. Also has the clam chowder which was good and came with really yummy home made bread. Overall a wonderful dinner. I came back a little later for an ice cream cone. Their browned butter maple toffee ice cream is simply amazing! If I lived anywhere near Trinidad I would eat there often. read more
