i want to preface by saying i am not a picky eater whatsoever and when i am hungry will quite literally eat anything, ordered a chicken sandwich and a tuna melt to go. i should have known to check the bag before leaving the parking lot, one thing i was very specific about was not wanting onions or mushrooms. I check the bag to see a chicken sandwich absolutely smothered in onions and mushrooms like genuinely more onions and mushrooms than chicken :( not only that but they put all the vegetables i asked for on the side on top of my bun in the box and the bun became soggy and basically inedible, and the cherry on top was that the chicken was so overcooked it tasted like literal beef jerky. We were satisfied with our meal but found the fish and chips batter and fish bland. My soup was a bit too thick and I didn't uncover much seafood, but the flavor was okay. Fries seemed a bit overdone and chewy. Again, not bad, but nothing I will likely come back for a repeat of, though options in Trinidad for lunch are pretty limited, so who knows. read more

We stumbled upon this grill while staying at the Trinidad B&B down the street. Its a nice local place that is always busy and they did not turn away customers even though they were in the process of closing. I originally opted for the tuna melt, but decided on the salmon melt instead, since it is seasonal. Turned out to be a nice hefty sandwich that doesn't skimp on the salmon. Finished it off with a double scoop of chocolate & strawberry (seasonal) homemade ice cream, which was enjoyed down by the beach to watch the sunset. Day 2 - yes, we came back the second day & this time I ordered the grilled cheese and beef chili. Although, the chili turned out to be more like a beef stew with beans and had a slight kick to it, it still hit the spot after a long day at the Redwood National and State Parks. The grilled cheese was ooey & gooey. The only ice cream flavor left was the salted caramel, which tasted more like butterscotch. All in all, its a nice local place to eat at within walking distance if you're staying in Trinidad. If an item is marked as seasonal, go ahead & order it, because it won't be there the next day. In a pinch I would go again but the food is expensive and just so so. The menu has a variety of stuff that sounded very good. It was cold outside so I just wanted some hot clam chowder. It was ok, bland and I think I had maybe 3 pieces of clams in it, but it did fill my belly and kept me warm. Lol my hubby and son had grilled crab sandwiches that were ok but barely any crab. Then we had some homemade ice cream that was pretty good. We had 1 bowl of soup, one sandwich to split and two ice creams and ice water and it was almost 50 bucks. I'd rather go to the Olive Garden and get good food for that. Or maybe I'm just getting old and cheap? Lol The inside was very cute and costal looking. Great paintings. Super Delicious!!! This little place is in the little shopping center just as you enter Trinidad. Chevron Gas across the street and a Grocery Store and Pizza Parlor in same lot. They take online and call-in orders (good thing during Covid). We ordered a Cheeseburger with Fries that my daughter LOVED and we also got the Mashed Potatoes in the Waffle Cone with Bacon and Cheese, how cool is that? It tasted GREAT!!! So good that we went back again the 2nd night and got 2 of the Waffle Cones. Also had the Fish and Chips, just the Childs portion, and it was good and more than enough food for an adult. I'm staying outside of town for a few days and came in last night for dinner. Kind folks and a lovely set up. I got the fried chicken sandwich, which was excellently fried, a generous portion, and quite good. The side Greek salad, as well, was a generous portion w/ feta and olives. To top it off, they make their own ice cream(!) and they were kind enough to let me try a few flavors before deciding (ask to try flavors!) In the end, nothing fancy, but everything very well done. We paid $2.99 to upgrade the fries to garlic fries, and there was very little seasoning, and they were greasy and soggy. My daughter got a 1/3 lb cheeseburger that was small and flavorless. They were out of chowder that we'd really wanted. The ambiance was just ok, and the tables outside were rusty and dirty, ick. The service was minimal: you order at the counter, the computer assumes & asks for a tip (which I SO regret giving even 15%!)--the only "service" is that they bring you the food out when it's ready, that's it. Then, you bus your own table after you eat! I resent the bogus 3% charge they slipped in (that I only noticed on my receipt later) for "employee benefits". The business owner should pay for that, not the customer! This place is a little gem - don't let the front fool you. It has a variety of delicious options for all kinds of diets. Their tofu burger is wonderful even though i took a chance - generally I'm not a fan of tofu. Everything else we got was great too. Hand cut fries, chowder, salmon melt... Even their garden salad is clearly made with love While looking pretty small, the place has plenty of tables inside and some outside. We went here for a quick lunch stop before heading back to Redwoods Park to camp. Loved this little spot! The staff is friendly and informative. They courteously let me know to wait outside while another customer was inside. It seems that the popular things to get here are ice cream as a sweet... and mashed potato cones as a savory! Unfortunately I wasn't in the mood for that, but their other items don't disappoint! All burgers are made with Humboldt grass fed cows. My bf said there was a difference in taste! The basic cheddar burger is outstanding delicious on a brioche bun. The GF bun is nice option to enjoy the Jammin Burger. Brewed root beer! Loved it along with Lime-Ginger house made soda. The service staff took the order accurately and delivered it in a timely manner hot and fresh. The atmosphere is easy going, like, place your order under the massive menu board in the active lobby because so many people want to eat here. Chowder would more appropriately be called potato soup there was one single piece of clam in it. Campbell's canned clam soup is better. If it had not been for the bacon, there would have been no salt in it. The fish was cold and soggy on the inside. Not a good fry-up. The interior was freezing cold and uncomfortable to sit in. I LOVE mashed potatoes and can never get enough of it, so it was a dream come true to eat the "All the Way" cone with beef brisket, mashed potatoes, gravy, cheese, and bacon The savory cone is made of cornmeal, garlic, rosemary & chives. The brisket was my favorite part since the meat was so tender. It can be a bit difficult to eat the cone in the stand it comes in so it would be nice if there were waffle bowls too! It can get crowded on a sunny weekend, my friends and I were the last ones to order the mashed potato cones and then they were sold out So the people after us had to wait 30 min-1 hr for them to make more cones. There's acrylic canvas paintings with local flowers and beach scenery on the wall by the eating area up for sale that look really nice but are pretty expensive. This place is across from Murphy's Market & there's a parking lot. There were signs that there's happy hour Mon-Fri 4-5:30PM with special prices for appetizers and $1 off beer and wine. We were staying at Emerald Forest cabins and came into town for what we hoped would be a great seafood dinner (hey, it's a seaport town, right?). 'The Eatery' was short-staffed and there was a 40 minute wait just to get in, so they suggested another place. 'The Lighthouse' was one mentioned, so since it's easily found, right by the 101/Main Street junction, we decided to try it. BIG MISTAKE! Now, I understand that the pandemic has hit everyone in the restaurant/hotel/motel business hard, but our experience at 'The Lighthouse' was beyond abysmal...perhaps one of the worst I've ever experienced anywhere (and I've been all over the world several times over, so I DO have a reasonable basis for comparisons). The order-taking was slightly chaotic at the register and as we were standing there, a customer brought his glass of wine back and told the counter person that we wanted another..."This wine tastes like vinegar!" That should have been a red flag for us, but we glibly ordered away. I ordered a glass of the Moonstone (local) blended red and the fish and chips, along with a small bowl of the clam chowder (which was Boston Style, by the way), and we went to sit down, after the other three in our group ordered. My glimpse into the kitchen was not encouraging (it looked a bit grotty). Finally, a (very) young woman brought my order and I tucked into it. The wine, I found to my dismay, was also vinegary, and it was probably because it had come from an opened bottle that had sat too long before my glass was poured...wine doesn't keep well in an opened bottle. But the fish and chips...well, the breading used on the fish had a very strange, yellowish-orange coloration and the fish was coated in WAY too much of it. Cautiously, I gingerly tried the stuff, after peeling away some of the weirdly colored breaded coating. YUK! Not encouraging! The taste of that strangely colored breaded coating was not quite rancid but it certainly was NOT at all appetising! In fact it was downright repulsive and after a couple of tries, I just gave up on it and turned to the chowder, which turned out to be as another person has already described it: not bad but definitely not the best I've ever had, either. [The fish/chips had come with what were at least identifiable as 'French Fries' but they were also severely afflicted by the old cooking oil used and were most unappetising, as well!] My three dinner companions had more or less the same sort of reaction to their orders, also, and after leaving most of it on the plate and upon finishing the (lukewarm) chowder, we left, resolved to never, EVER patronise 'The Lighthouse' again in future. [I finally figured out why the fish's breaded coating was so terrible after a bit of further thought: the cook (a very young dude) seemed to be using the same old cooking oil over and over, instead of using fresh oil to fry the fish. That's an OLD trick and one that many low-grade restaurants use to save a bit of money and lower costs. Fortunately, it wasn't yet out-and-out rancid and none of us got ill afterwards, but be warned!...] My final assessment: AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE! It's hard to believe that any restaurant, right there in a seaport town where they bring in fresh fish nearly every day, could offer such execrable seafood dinner fare, and if our experience there is anything like what it usually is at this establishment, you do not want to subject your taste-buds to it! This location is kind of out there and very popular! Small building and very busy. The food was fresh and local. What makes this place so popular is the mash potatoe waffle cone. It looks like ice cream but it's potatoes! I really should have got one. This was a case of I ordered poorly! Having said that I was still very happy with the fish sandwich that I did order. Water was free but the water was one of those big tanks filled with slice fruit to infuse the water. It was cold and tasty which was great after the long hike I did earlier. Service was good.
