I haven't been back to this place since my last review where I said I would never go back. I decided to give it another try because it has a holiday pop up. I don't know what's up with the staff here but I literally wait 25 minutes for someone to help me and I was at the bar. After the first 15 minutes of waiting the bartender said he had to make 2 drinking before helping me. It's nbd and he's the only person. I don't mind waiting if it's busy but I can see him just talking to coworkers. During the first 15 minutes he was talking to other staff. He made the two drinks and then went right on back to talking to staff. I included a picture of what he was doing at the 25 minute mark. Since the pandemic I've gotten use to waiting and being patient. Things just take longer. But at this bar the bartender is just hanging with his friends. The one drink I had before leaving was made incorrectly and tasted like perfume. This is a chain pop up and I went to the one is Dallas, ordered the same drink, and it was much better. read more

It might be time for an intervention if you are getting your breakfast from the Liquor Store....but thats what I did. They serve up some breakfast basics with a Latin twist. I got the Cuban pork with scrambled eggs and giant biscuit. You can only get your eggs scrambled or fried. The pork was what made it exceptional - nice hint of spice. Its literally inside an old Liquor Store and thats the theme they are going with. Cocktails and mimosas are available. All in all I liked the concept, the staff, and the food but I'd like to see the menu get a little more of a boost beyond eggs and protein. Wow delicious! Hands down the best biscuit that I've ever had in my life! (Everyone I was with also in agreement with this statement). We started with the Biscuit Beignets (fried dough with dulche de leche and powdered sugar, how can that not be delicious?!) Most of us had the biscuit sandwich meal and like I said earlier absolutely delicious. The portion sizes were just right. I didn't feel like I had an overwhelming amount of food at all. The Liquor Store has been on my bucket list for some time now, and so I was happy to visit for a date night last Saturday. It wasn't very busy and there was available patio seating to enjoy the nice weather. Everything we ordered was yummy- me having the Cuban Platter with surprisingly perfect fried plantains and my date having the street tacos with pork. I appreciated the small menu as I am wary of a restaurant that tries to do too much. Both cocktails, the Corpse Reviver No. 2 and Stuck on Island Thyme were flavorful and satisfying. However, I must give 4 stars because the wait for drinks, food, and check were ridiculously long. I wasn't in a serious rush and often try to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt, but it started to become unbearable after we had been there for 2 hours, having drank delayed drinks, eaten an appetizer we completely forgot about, finally ate, and then waited for 15-20 minutes for the check. I do hope it was an off night or that they can hire properly if they are short staffed. I am willing to visit again. read more

Had lunch there today with a friend and there were just a few other guests there - so it wasnt crowded. They added a 20% gratuity to the check on top of the nearly 20% tip I left. I've seen plenty of people recommend this place, and I'm really not sure why. I just left here. Many of the dishes sounded tasty with their Cuban influence. I went with family, and between the 3 of us, the breakfast tacos, the sweet potato hash, the beignets, and the pancakes were ordered. All of it was incredibly bland. The sweet potato hash was hardly a hash. It was more like steamed sweet potatoes. The egg was overcooked--it was ordered over-easy but was over-medium. The pancakes looked appetizing but were very dry. The breakfast tacos were not very flavorful either. They could use some help. The beignets were very hard, and again, just not very flavorful despite their description. Our service was pretty terrible. They were a little busy for a Tuesday, but our server never brought one of us our sweet tea despite being asked a couple times about it (fortunately it was not on our check when the time came). She never checked on us after we got our food, which would've been helpful, coz more syrup and some butter was needed for the dry pancakes. We ended up asking another server for what we needed. Our coffee wasn't refilled once. I can't blame the server though. Some people just aren't good at it. It takes skill to manage several tables. Anyway, your money is better spent at Brother Juniper's. We came here for brunch on Saturday after a work out. There was a few people in front of us but we were seated fairly quickly. Definitely get there before 11 if you don't want to wait. It is a small establishment so be mindful of that. I ordered the breakfast sandwich with a fried egg over easy, cheddar cheese, and the Cuban pork with a side of hash browns. The fried egg was cooked perfectly and I was able to use it as sauce for my sandwich and my hash browns. My hash browns were perfectly crispy on the outside without being burnt but there was still some soft potato shreds in the hash brown patty. The Cuban pork was nice and soft. It was seasoned well and had a hint of lime zing. I only wish the biscuit was fluffy. It was like they had made all the biscuits in the morning and so the biscuit had been sitting out and got a little hard. My cousin ordered the shiitake mushroom gravy over 2 large biscuits, scrambled eggs and extra crispy bacon. I actually had the mushroom gravy dish the first time I was there and it was still just as good. It's nice and peppery and just soaks into the biscuit so it's a nice spoonful of yummy. I think that sauce should have been on my breakfast sandwich. She also orders a Wiseacre cold brew with a side of almond milk. She was disappointed with it. I tried it and it had some sort of fizz to it which I did not like at all since it's a coffee and not a beer. Lastly I ordered the beignets which are made from their biscuit dough so they are a bit dense. However the dolce de leche sauce that comes with is finger licking good. The service was quick, friendly and attentive. I only had drunk maybe an inch of my water and it was refilled. I tried to see if there was a discount for teachers but they only did military discounts. Overall, It is a small but quaint restaurant with a varying array of dishes and quick and friendly service. We thought the concept of this restaurant was so cute....& it is! I think it used to be an old liquor store turned diner. Sadly the food & drinks fell short for this cute modern eatery. Came in for brunch on Memorial Day Monday. Not a long wait. The hostess was super nice and offered us bar seating once a few seats cleared. I wasn't super hungry so I just ordered a champagne cocktail & crab cakes which came with a few dressed greens. My love ordered the turkey sandwich and some horrible drink. I will admit the turkey sandwich was hot & definitely cooked to order. (You can even watch your food being cooked seated at the bar top). The sandwich itself was decent with flavor & came with a side of mustard based potato salad. This is something I'd order again if I just happen to be here. The crab cake tasted more like a crab fritter. Decent but I wouldn't have to order again. Although our bartenders were very attentive & friendly the cocktails here suck! Sorry y'all they do. All right, Liquor Store, I'm giving you five because I can't give a four and a half. This is such a cute little restaurant. Usually when I go it is to participate and drag bingo, hosted by Memphis' own Imagene Azengraber on lucky Thursday evenings. The Southern Florida and Caribbean appeal of the decor will keep you returning. It is Chrome and monsterra and palm trees, big clocks stating the time in Havana and Miami, and a long bar with old-fashioned dessert case. Big beautiful colored string lights illuminate the ceiling above, slowly changing color. Their food is pretty great. It is sandwich heavy, and I do wish they had more vegetable and salad options. My favorite is the breakfast sandwich, and I'm so heartbroken to learn that they have stopped serving the breakfast menu after 4:00 p.m. It's their best thing! The burgers and sandwiches are fantastic, don't get me wrong, but they are heavy and rich, on delicious bread and laden with generous amounts of cheese and meat. To be honest, the restaurant's kitchen is open air, and the fan is not adequate enough for all of the meat that they fry on the griddle. The smoke from the grill gets in your eyes and your hair and your clothing. "The Diner Effect", is what I call it. It's like when you go to a CK's or another diner and you end up smelling like the whole menu. To make up for all the smoke, they do have fantastic fruity boozy delicious cocktails. Check out the list on the menu, and definitely try The Princess is in Another Castle, a play on super Mario Bros Princess Peach, mixing bourbon and peach and served with a candy peach ring. Parking is free in a private parking lot. The service is pretty great too. They don't seem to mind me bringing my well behaved middle schooler to play bingo. As a rule, I typically do not eat breakfast out, but my wife used Yelp mobile to discover this hot spot on Broad in Memphis so we could grab a bite while we were on the road. When we arrived on a Saturday morning the place was packed and there was a wait to be seated. Lucky for us, a couple of spots opened up at the bar. My wife ordered Brussel sprouts with a poached egg, and I opted for the breakfast biscuit. If we were not driving, we would have been tempted to try the bloody, but that will have to be a rain check. While I was waiting to be seated, I perused the menu and noticed a breakfast shot and commented to my wife, who would order that for $12. It is a shot of Well Liquor, Strip of Bacon, and Orange Juice (4 oz) for $12! The words had no sooner left my mouth than an order was being prepared nearby. So apparently someone is. I also noticed the mimosa setup on the menu for $26, which is literally what it sounds like, they bring you the stuff to make mimosas with so you can make them yourself. I was astounded, who knew people would pay an exorbitant amount to DIY. Not to undersell this place though, the liquor stock is full of great choices (someone has good taste). The service was warm and friendly. The atmosphere was pretty basic and so were the breakfast options and quality. I told my wife, minus the booze, I used to have this setup available to me at the breakfast counter in the Benjamin Franklin five and dime back in the day. Dating myself for sure, but perhaps, that is exactly the type of dusted off charm that the younger crowd digs about this place? In a franchise breakfast world full of McDees, Ihops and Waffle houses, maybe they appreciate a little place on the corner. To be clear, this place does more than breakfast and I have not tried anything outside of the breakfast biscuit. Would I order the breakfast biscuit again? I would not. It simply did not differentiate itself from any other biscuit out there, be it McDees, or home made. In case you are curious, my frame of reference still to this day, is the biscuit I experienced at a Sewee Outpost north of Charleston SC. My family and I went around Christmas time, and the restaurant was playfully adorned with decorations. As a forewarning- I would make a reservation if you're visiting during a busy time- especially due to covid capacity restrictions. Once we were seated, I must say the restaurant was a bit chillier than I would have liked. Yet, I am sure the fact it was freezing outside did not help. I work in this area frequently, but I always thought this place literally was a liquor store. The only reason I tried them out was because I noticed it on yelp. I like the history part of the place and the name, but these folks seriously should consider putting some signs out front saying that they have lunch. As you drive down the street, there is no indication that this is an awesome place to eat. They do have liquor but they only sell drinks. I had the grilled cheese and tomato soup. It was the best of both I have ever had. Not one ingredient from that tomato soup came from a can and the flavor really stood out. I'll let my pictures do the rest of the speaking on that. Two small complaints or feedback rather. I found that the portion did not quite satisfy. I normally eat a bigger bowl and two sandwiches at home. Secondly, I found myself a bit uncomfortable paying the price for the serving I got. I'll agree that quality costs more, but I'm not sure who got the better end of the bargain. My partner ordered The Blue Premium Ground Chuck And Brisket Patty, Apple Wood Smoked Blue Cheese, Caramelized Onions, And 2 Strips Of Bacon. Served With Fries. My partners burger was delicious but the blue cheese caused it to taste a little off putting it tasted heavily salted.
