We just moved to the area and are so glad to have found this place. The fish and chips came as a generous portion and were crispy on the outside and flakey on the inside. The Shepard's pie meat was spiced just right, with the perfect amount of mashed potatoes on top. The best part was the welcoming service. It was our first time taking the baby out to a restaurant and we were very nervous, but the kind staff and extra friendly patrons made it easy. Service was spectacular! The salad entrée that I ordered was close in size to a side salad that accompanied my sister's dinner. The feta cheese on my salad was nowhere to be found. We came to lunch on Saturday afternoon with family. What's not to love about an Irish pub!? The dining room is small, but it was busy with two waitresses working the room and they were hustlin'! Such a fan!! We are suckers for a good tavern / pub -- but make no mistake about it, not all are created equally. Most notably, the quality of food from one pub to the next can very quite a bit. The reviews of River Court hold true. Their food is really good. We tried a bunch of apps (wings, potato skins, Mozz sticks, chicken fingers, French onion soup etc) and nothing disappointed. Nice selection of beers to wash it all down. Making things even nicer -- it seems family run from what we could tell it seemed like a mother running it with her children working there. Had dinner there with my wife. The food was ok, not great. This is a downgrade from previous visits. The wife started with onion soup. It had a good taste. It didn't have the crusty bread in it as is usual. The big issue for her was that there was nearly no onions in it. Onion soup without onions, really? For a main course she had penne vodka with shrimp. 3 shrimp for and additional $10 seems a lot. It was ok. I had a steak sandwich with garlic and onions. Guess what? Nearly no onions on my sandwich! They did give me more when I asked the waiter for more onions. Lastly, when the owner came around and asked how was everything, we said ok. If I had a restaurant, I would like a better review than ok, but I guess its good enough for the owner or she just didn't care. Oh, the draft beer was warm unfortunately. Had dinner here for NYE. There was live music and a free champagne toast with festive hats. That was a nice surprise. Waitress was friendly and The food was good. My husband and I had lunch in this restaurant today. We tried pot roast special and shepherd's pie. Both dishes were delicious and cooked to perfection. We shared a carrot cup cake for dessert - I am not a cup cake fan, but this particular one (carrot) made me a convert! If there is a cup cake that would make everyone happy, it might be this one! The only thing I regret about is that for 7.5 years I was passing by this place thinking, well, may be tomorrow. And I am so grateful that " tomorrow " finally happened. Highly recommend read more

I found this place because I had jury duty and my first two choices are closed on Mondays. Run of the mill American style Irish pub. I got there right at 1pm before the lunch rush. My waitress was very busy but she was attentive and friendly. I ordered the fish and chips. It wasn't bad. The fish was a little greasy but not inedible. The chips were good. A little on the pricey side. Would come back only if I exhaust all my other choices while doing my civic duty. read more

The food was pretty good. I wouldn't say 5 stars but not bad. We started with French onion soups and calamari. The calamari was cooked very well. The French onion soup was bland. We had a few steak sandwiches, a burger and an order of sausage and mash. The steak sandwich was good but it could have been better, it was missing some sort of freshness and a sauce. If there was arugula on top and some kind of cheese like Gorgonzola or provolone it would of been 10/10. Unfortunately it was just steak on a sandwich with very few onions and mushrooms. The burger was good, cooked perfectly and I didn't try the sausage and mashed so I can't review that other than appearance wise. It looked like a small portion in regards to everything else. Could be good but the blonde bartender with the bob isn't nice if you arent a regular and she gets drunk at baileys when she gets off and complains about the male bartenders showing up high or almost getting fired. They don't want to hire anyone that isn't already in their circle but I've had multiple people tell me that two or three of the day waitresses are rude and I know which ones. The owners aren't bad but they are close minded and not open to change and I guess they make enough money that they don't care if their staff is making people not want to come back. Might be time for some new blood and they don't have to have a brogue to be good they might even be better because they didn't come from somewhere where tipping isn't really a thing so their attitude didn't matter but the two blonde bartenders and Larry aren't polite at all if they don't know you. Was visiting a sick relative in the area and by the time I got out, everything(excluding fast food spots) was closed. I was sad, stressed and very hungry. Even though the kitchen wasn't open, Larry went above and beyond to make sure my stop was worth it. He put the frier on and offered anything that could be warmed in there. My friend who works as a dispatcher in Clarkstown recommended it. I visited this Irish tavern with a co-worker months ago. The first impression of the ambiance was that the wood added charm & class. I am unaware of other Celtic bars in the area besides Bailey's Smokehouse on Main St. My friend ordered the chicken tenders while I had the pasta special and crock of onion soup. I was pleasantly surprised with the entrees. Sometimes bars offer typical fair with bland flavors. This was NOT the case. Thanks River Court for the hospitality and overall traditional layout. The food is tasty bar room fare. Try the Shepards Pie or the curry! The burgers and the steak sandwich are great. Service is great and it is pretty speedy! I love the Guinness on tap. We were in New City wanted something out of our routine so we went to River Court on Main. I have seen several posts and reviews on social and all were very positive. First of all, the bar room is beautiful, with cool green accent lights on the bottles. The dining area is small but nicely decorated. All around, a nice atmosphere. The hostess was very cordial, she greeted and seated us right away. We started with a cocktail which came quickly and were made perfectly. My wife ordered the onion soup and mild buffalo chicken wings. The soup was covered with a delicious baked cheese, however the broth was a bland and tasted more beefy than like a good onion soup. Her wings were over cooked and dried out. They were either, overcooked or precooked and reheated for service. I know a lot of restaurants do this with wings. She was disappointed with both. I got the Fish & Chips. The fish was light and flakey and the batter was very crisp and not too heavy. The serving was 3 smaller pieces of fish where I would have expected 4 or 5. The French fries also were cooked perfectly. Both were Golden Brown & Delicious. I asked for extra tartar sauce, which I got, but it (and the catsup) was served in covered plastic containers that reminded me of fast food take out, not a nice sit-down restaurant. The tarter was homemade, but prepared with curry, which I wasn't a fan of. I know traditional Irish love curry, but it is not as popular here and not expected in Tartar Sauce. Over all the service was friendly and prompt. I would like to give River Court another try based upon all the positive reviews but I may have to convince the wife. read more

River Court on Main is a little gem of an Irish Pub in New City. We have been here several times and have never been disappointed. The food is top notch Irish Fare, as is the service. I have had everything from a burger, fish and chips, Shepard's pie and several other items all showing great quality. If you are looking for this type of food you will not go wrong with River Court on Main. The only down side is parking. They do not have a parking lot so you need to locate street parking and that can be several blocks away. However once you get there it is worth the hassle. read more

Should have been stated on the menu and also by the waitress when we ordered. To top it off, my friend found two hairs in his burger (which they did comp and they sent over one free drink). $4 up charge for gluten allergy is ridiculous...dollar or two is fine but $4, excessive. read more
