Came here with a friend on a whim to grab a bite. It was a weekday at 6pm so I can only speak to the vibe at that time but there was a decent amount of people and I loved the no-frills dive type atmosphere. Those are my favorite types of places. It is self service style so you go up to the bar order which I didn't mind at all. The bartenders were extremely friendly and took our orders and we paid and got our drinks all within about 75 seconds. Our food was brought out I'd say within 8-10 mins max. The club sandwich that I had was deceiving in size - looked pretty small but was filling! The taste was amazing and the bacon and sauce they put on are definitely the stars. Seems that they run some great drink specials daily and have 1/2 priced apps on Wednesdays from 4-7 I believe and $2 tacos on Tuesday's. Would love to come back! read more

I was in town for a concert and needed something to eat before I started my night. I saw the chicken sandwich in the reviews and decided on this spot. They had a special going for one of their chicken sandwiches for $9. It was cooked so well, super juicy and the bun was toasted and soft as hell. One thing I hate about sandwiches is when the lettuce is wilted. The lettuce was crunchy fresh. I also ordered 6 hot honey wings and a tropical vojito. The wings were cooked perfectly. My only complaint was the hot honey was basically just honey. But the wings themselves made up for it. Also the blue cheese was giving ranch vibes. I like my blue cheese thick and chunky. Everything came out to $30 which was a great price imo. The bartender made sure I had everything I needed and she was gorgeous. Definitely will go back next time I'm in Charlotte. read more

Wandered into this hip bar while walking in uptown. It was pretty crowded for a Sunday afternoon. It's more of a hip dive bar. Small space, so people are pretty close to each other whether you like it or not. They offer a variety of drink specials along with the normal beer, wine, and alcohol selections. They have a few tables inside, but you are mainly just standing. They do have bouncers at the door that check ID when you arrive. They do have outside seating as well for the warmer weather. It's definitely more of a casual vibe and wouldn't mind coming back. This is located in uptown, so of course parking can be hassle unless you just uber. read more

After walking around my hotel trying to find somewhere to eat, I settled on this place for my"lunch". There weren't a lot of customers as it was pretty early for business in a bar in this district. We are visiting here and were at this bar until close there was a larger group of us everything was going well UNTIL the pint sized security decided about 10 minutes till closing while folks finished there last round and paying their tab that he felt like being rude and rudely push everyone out of the bar. He was nasty for no reason and even brushed up against one of the women in our party when asked for the manager the bartender said she was new and didn't know the managers name. (After looking through the reviews she is in pictures from a few years back)Then some guy came from the bar after it's closed saying he's just there patronizing the bar we are all kicked out of and if we have problem we should call the police it was all distastefully handled. If you're looking for a chill dive bar vibe this is it. Great selection of beers both draft and bottled plus cocktails. Didn't have their food but liked the options. Parking in uptown is always iffy. But for a quick drink to kill time I'd recommend the local. They were doing construction when I went so wasn't able to take a pic of the mural outside. Prices are average. A lot of bars and restaurants in Uptown Charlotte seem to mostly cater to either the late night party crowd, or the office happy hour crowd. The Local is different in that it has the feel of a neighborhood pub/sports bar. That's not to say that you won't find office workers grabbing a few cold ones after their shift (I myself enjoy doing this), or that it doesn't turn into a huge party on weekend nights. In fact what makes this place really cool in my opinion is that you will see a lot of different types of people hanging out, often a very diverse crowd. In summary the name The Local feels appropriate because this truly is a bar frequented by those who call Uptown home, as well as visitors. The food menu is your typical sports bar fare. Aside from the fact that their drinks are very affordable compared to nearby establishments, there isn't anything remarkable that their doing behind the bar. But I think that's what makes this place awesome and why it has stood the test of time. It's a simple, unassuming bar that chill people like to hang out and work at. read more

A friend and I stopped past this bar on a Saturday night, simply to grab a drink with the intention of leaving right after. We ended up staying the entire night until close because the DJ was so good. His set mostly included recent and popular hip hop and r&b hits with some pop and afrobeats inclusions. Drinks and service were as you would expect from this type of establishment. It was pride weekend when we went so the bar was probably more packed than usual. A small but quaint bar. It reminded me of a typical NY "local bar". Not a lot of glitz or theme here. There was a small crowd sitting at the bar. They had seats to eat at tables. Staff was very nice. This place did exude a positive vibe and our time spent there was enjoyable. The staff seemed to be happy and caring people. I even enjoyed the crowd that was festive but respectful.
