What a GEM!! Found this place on our way out of town and wish we didn't live so far away so we could visit more often! Coffee was a bit over priced (and totally missed there is a whole coffee bar with specialty drinks), but got a great big cup to go. I love this place but the last visit was sub par unfortunately. I ordered the chorizo Benedict and the ingredients were minimal considering the $13.95 price tag. Muffins, chorizo, eggs and hollandaise sauce. Really?! I asked for spinach and tomatoes to accompany the dish (and thankfully wasn't charged) but man, I can make a better benedict for half the price and not feel robbed. We stopped in for breakfast during our trip and were not disappointed! Everything we had was great--lots of unique and traditional options alike. There was something for everyone. The inside is pretty large seating-wise, and it wasn't too busy at 9am on a Friday. The service was outstanding and was the star aside from the food. Our server was so kind and our food came out very quickly. They were flexible to make an off-menu espresso drink as well which was great. Overall we were really glad we gave it a try! This place is amazing for breakfast; our experience at lunch was not as positive but the food was still awesome. For breakfast we had the pot pie (to die for!!) and tamales (a little spicy for me but my companion loved it). The pot pie is this luscious mix of veggies in a creamy sauce with the most delicate and flaky crust. I added the sausage - because why not - and an egg for the full breakfast experience. Perfectly seasoned, hot and buttery...absolutely perfect. The tamales came with sausage and eggs and my friend loved it all. The tamales were just the right texture. I'm not a fan of the spicy bite for either the tamales or sausage but it wasn't guzzle your water hot. Most would like it. Both our dishes came with a side of fresh fruit. For lunch I had the hammie sammie and my friend ordered the pot pie because i raved about it so much. The sandwich was nicely packed with ham and sweet onions, toasted perfectly for me which is to say hardly at all, and I added a side of smashed yukon gold. The potatoes were ok - nothing to write home about. Everything is organic and all the hippie stuff you laugh about but it makes a difference in the taste. The staff for the morning shift was superb. Service at lunch was less than stellar. The place is great - the walls are filled with eclectic art and there's even conversation starters in the cubby by the entrance if you need entertainment. read more

But now the prices are ridiculous... and the quality of food has gone way down. Today there were five of us, and two orders had to be returned to the kitchen. We had a fantastic experience with the Local this morning! We just moved here (like got here last night) and are still reeling from the move. My husband went in and ordered breakfast and when he got home, he realized that he didn't specify vegan on our two meals. He took them back and explained that we are new in town and didn't realize there were no vegan versions of what we ordered. They took the food and remade our meals without even thinking about it! Our neighbors said "The Local" was a great spot for breakfast, so we tried it out today. Well, I know to take their reviews with a few grains of salt now. I had the Chicken Quesadilla. There was chicken in one of the four slices. The sauce was pretty much poured from a can sourced at the local supermarket. The cheese and chicken were pretty salty, the black beans basically had no taste to them at all. The Pico de Gallo was great! I asked for more of that to make my quesadilla more appetizing, but I wound up leaving 1/2 the quesadilla on my plate. My wife had "The Usual" with eggs, meat, potatoes, English muffin and jam. The strawberry jam was outstanding, really great with the muffin. The eggs were ok, too. The ham was dry, curled up around the edges from being overcooked. The smashers were basically smashed potatoes with gold coloring added, also pretty blah tasting. The place was packed by the time we left, though, not that we can figure out why. We actually liked Susie's Skyway at the airport better than The Local...and we weren't thrilled with Susie's, either. I'm afraid the reviews of this place are just not accurate, or we accidentally ordered the two most boring things on their menu...that's about all I can figure out.
