The staff are very friendly and helpful (occasionally they get a bit behind when there is a surge of business). This restaurant is AMAZING! Our experience on a Wednesday evening was absolutely 100%. The servers all help each other cover tables and even the manager and bar tender come out to serve food, clear tables and fill water. The food is OUTSTANDING! You feel like you're in a French street restaurant or an autentico Italiano trattoria. I had the "Cobb" salad (which was SOOOOOO far beyond any Cobb you've had) and my GF had the ravioli that tasted like I was sitting next to a fireplace in Serengi eating Italy's finest. The calamari is literally the best I've had in California! So light, dainty with a perfect Nuveau Cali taste. The drinks! Holy crap! The drinks are classics with heavy emphasis on the heavy pours! This is a good local spot that could be GREAT with local support and some front of the house fixes. The location is exceptional but isolated in the Dos Vientos community. The food is very good, if not creative, it is simple and delicious. The Beet salad was fresh and tasty, followed by Branzino in lemon caper sauce. The Fish was nicely cooked. The lamb bolognese special needed some time for the flavors to really come together. Dessert is disappointing. They offer 4-5 different forms of preordered Ice cream balls, with various fillings. Very redundant. They could benefit from an olive oil cake or a clafoutis or something along that line since everything has chocolate. One server was not adequate to cover the restaurant. He was very polite but, juggling so many tables made it tough to be completely attentive. We hold high hopes for the future of this restaurant. A few tweaks Could make it really wonderful. read more

I don't give 1 star lightly. The restaurant was not even half full and it took several minutes and 3 separate people to ask us how many were in our party (2) and then we were finally sat. The food menu is a little sparse and the drink menu even slimmer. We ordered a margarita and a Paloma. The Margarita came far too sweet and with table salt around the rim, and the the waiter (who made the drink) didn't know what a paloma was. Both were horrible and we didn't finish them. We got spaghetti and meatball and chicken Paillard. The Paillard was simple but done correctly. The Spaghetti and meatballs looked and tasted like a frozen dinner. The sauce was more like a vodka sauce and I believe it only came with 4 little meatballs for $20. Long story short, the only good thing about the entire experience was the bread. We have been going to the Local Table for several years. I have enjoyed their food, drinks and staff especially Michael who happens to be the owners son. The service is fast, food excellent, and Michael makes a great Old Fashioned second to none. A great item on the menu is the squid ink pasta with scallops and shrimp...delicious . Delicious and tasty! We live in the neighborhood and we are fortunate to have this restaurant in walking distance. The brisket and gnocchi is a favorite and so is the Cobb salad. I've also ordered the mini pizza for my daughter and it's always a hit. The service is highly attentive--water is poured continuously throughout the dining experience. I have been here in the past and enjoyed the pizza and beer at the bar. I tried to visit a couple of months ago and as my party/me grabbed the door handled and walked in, a man came up to us and said "we're closed" Which prompted us to point at the hours and bring up how their hours say they're still open for one mor hour.. but then man said "we are going to close now since nobody has been in here for a couple of hours," lame! read more

We arrived for the Happy Hour on a Wednesday. Our server Rolando G. was very attentive and helpful. We had appetizers and drinks. The drinks were very good. The meatballs were more like small meatloaf balls, short rib sliders were ok but tiny and the shrimp, which was very tasty. The appetizers were overpriced for what you received. Was here a few weeks ago and was surprised how great the service and food were. It's been years since I came back and they really did a great job with the quality of the food along with service. The food is pretty good and I used to enjoy dining here, however the lack of respect for the their immediate neighbors is beyond reason. I can understand wanting to have live music for your guests to enjoy, but keyboards, drums and sometimes even a horn section blaring every single Saturday evening is just inconsiderate. I know at least one neighbor has spoken to the owner about it, but his seemingly lack of concern regarding the impact it's having on nearby homes is, like the music, deafening. We not only can't enjoy time in our yards, we have to keep our windows closed. It's like being forced to endure a bad wedding reception over and over and over. The Local Table has reopened in place of the Gema Restaurant. It is owned by former employees and has a similar menu and some of the former waiters. It is good as before. My wife and I went there tonight and it was pretty well patronized. I had the short ribs and my wife had the seafood risotto and we shared at calamari appetizer. Up Front: party of six - all agreed the food was pretty good and would go back except for: 1. Service. We had reservations and were quickly seated, but then waited 30+ minutes and -we- went to the front desk to get menus... and ask for service... and the tab. This is the fault of: 2. Mgmt - I'm not sure any was present, but they had a going away party and didn't staff up? The staff that was there were overwhelmed. Not the staff's fault. 3. Acoustics - you should not go here for a quiet meal. Apart from the band on the patio, the acoustics inside make it impossible to not have to yell at everyone else at the table. We've ordered their braised short rib brisket, pepperoni Pizza, and pasta. The short rib brisket is always tender. Pizza is pretty good with the thin crust. I ordered a pasta dish with mushrooms, garlic and onions to go. I specifically stated to use very little oil. What I got was bread and pasta literally drenched in oil. When I called back to speak with the person who took my order, he asked how he could fix it. I responded to remake both items and use VERY LITTLE oil. Then I asked if he could bring it next door and he refused. (I was in a hair salon next door). Then I said, OK - I will come and get it with color on my hair. Then he said..."don't bother, I'll refund your order". What a jerk! I paid $18 for a pasta and now he's mad because he inconvenienced me. I have lived here many years and have never come to this restaurant. I'm really glad I did! It's a lovely restaurant and the staff is very friendly. I sat in the bar and the bartender was very cool and made a couple of their specialty drinks, which were great. They have a great menu with reasonable prices and the food was really good! Had BBQ shrimp, filet mignon and calamari. They were proportioned well and flavorful. I will definitely be back regularly for dinner, and I will also be trying their happy hour menu as it looked really good. Also have a good kids menu! read more

They make you feel like a local at The Local Table! Stopped here on our way home from a business trip in LA. Never heard of it but have it a try. Couldn't have found a more friendly place! What made it extra perfect?? Our server, Michael, the most amazing, polite, friendly young man. And for double thumbs up, his twin brother David works there also. We were promptly greeted, seated and treated like...yep a local. Michael explained the menu and told us the specials which we both jumped on the special fresh fish of the night, Grilled Sea Bass with the most amazing lemon caper sauce. Our meal was served with very buttery garlic bread, vegetables and mashed potatoes. All cooked to perfection. We will make the drive from Ventura again just to say hi to Michael & David. And of course to eat the yummy foods! 5/7/16 We came back just 5 weeks later and Michael waited on us again. And guess what...he remembered our names and something about us. So point is we were treated like FRIENDS and LOCALS at The LOCAL Table!! Tonight we had the Chicken piccata and the Scottish salmon. I also had the beet & arugula salad. Hubby had a beer, the All Day IPA. Seriously everything was perfection. But the best is MICHAEL.
