The Loft at Montage Laguna Beach is one of my favorite restaurants. I recommend going for dinner. If you want an elevated guest experience, no one compares to the Loft. Their dinner menu is scrumptious. My favorite dishes are Organic Mixed Greens Salad with Grilled King Salmon, Jidori Chicken, King Salmon, and Ribeye (if you like marble) with mashed potatoes. My favorite desserts are Apple Blackberry Clafoutis. I also like the chocolate stone and the affogato. Honestly, everything is delicousness. You'll love it! You can sit outdoors on the patio balcony (especially during the holidays. Montage lights up the Christmas Tree and the palm trees. It's spectacular. Nothing beats that view, overlooking the pool and the ocean too. Or you can eat inside, where the view is equally spectacular. So pretty inside, and the lighting is unmatched. Such a gorgeous ambience/restaurant. The best in the OC. Before dinner you can take a walk on the ocean front property, and enjoy spectacular views, spectacular sunsets, go down to the beach...Montage Laguna Beach is unparalleled beauty. Really enjoyed my birthday brunch here. Views are immaculate! We called in 30 mins ahead and was able to get a reservation on a Saturday. Food was good, nothing out of this world and priced reasonably given the location. We started with oysters which were good but VERY small. I ordered the salad with salmon which was cooked perfectly. My dad and brother got burgers which they enjoyed. Drinks were made well! Definitely left with a buzz lol Make sure to validate at the front for parking. This place is a another hidden Jewel!!! Not only does the food taste so good the view is amazing!!! For the appearance it may seem a little confusing on how to get to the restaurant. It's located in the Mosaic montage. There a elevator to use to get there. Parking has many options depending on how you would like to get there. We used Valet because of time on the reservation. They validated and the cost was complimentary. Ok I have to talk about the banana bread that's made there!!! It's something everyone has to try, it's worth it!!! We were there for brunch so one of the guys in the group mentioned warm banana bread!!! I had to try that, I wasn't disappointed!!! So it turns out it was one of the signature items requested from all that done there!!! So we stubbled across this by accident because we did go there for that. Ok here comes the prices, it's not for everyone if your on a budget however if you're in the area its we'll worth checking out. I had the eggs Benedict. So good!!! I was going to give them 4 stars. I decided to give them an extra star for their way of handling an incidence. I had a patio table with good view to the ocean. There was a seagull nearby. He wondered around for about an hour and half. Without warning, he jumped onto my table and grabbed the ribeye steak from the plate then jumped back on the nearby roof. Everyone in the patio enjoyed this entertaining moment. The seagull proudly stood there with the steak hanging from his beak. Patrick, the waiter offered to replace the steak. Julien, the manager also stop by and apologized. They even did not charge me for the steak. That was a nice surprise. I greatly appreciated their kind gesture. read more

Both my son and I ordered the salad w Salmon. He received a normal portion of the salmon and my piece was less than half of his, probably 4 x 4 inches. Once they served us, we had to get up and ask for coffee. Coffee was actually cold not warm. There was no help and the servers were very inexperienced. Was truly disappointing. Came here for a birthday lunch on a rainy Wednesday in March. The view was still beautiful despite the overcast. We sat at the patio and it was fine with the heater on. It turned off out of the blue and we had to ask them to turn it on again. We ordered the tuna poke bowl and cheeseburger with fries. Food was underwhelming. The complimentary bread was good but wished they served it with salted butter. The fish roe on the poke bowl was not a good addition and the tuna was "warm" instead of cold and fresh. The burger was just a typical burger and the fries were good because I asked them to be extra crispy. The dessert menu didn't look interesting to us so we somewhere else for that. Very expensive for the food. You're paying for the view. Service was okay. The whole time we were there were afraid of the seagull who was ready to swoop in and eat the food. It actually came at us at one point. They should have some type of deterrent for the birds. I wish they acknowledged the birthday but oh well. It was a disappointing visit. read more

Amazing experience to say the least as this place will always hold a special place in my heart! We came here spontaneously because I needed to use the restroom but it turned out to be one of the best decisions ever. Beautiful ocean view, we were lucky enough to have the seat directly facing the doors that open up to the beach. Waiter was super friendly and all in all just a nice place to relax next to the beach, and have some drinks or food. Ordered the caviar plate which was really good and it came with olives. If I remember correctly we also ordered a chocolate cake which was just okay but still good. I can't remember which cocktail I ordered but the espresso martini here is really good!! Just keep in mind if you want to eat here at the restaurant unless you find parking elsewhere and walk over you will have to pay for valet parking. read more

Atmosphere reminds me of an all inclusive resort type of vibe. Theres families dining with young children, and business dinners meetings, couples on dates. A combination of everything. The views are beautiful. The menu is decent but nothing memorable that you cant find anywhere else. A steak dinner, a fish entree with some vegetable side dish, nothing original. The quality of the food is good though. The Bar on the other hand makes some delicious craft cocktails made to order if you have a particular drink in mind they will make it for you. We ordered a "Ramos Gin Fizz" which not every bar is well equipped for it nor does every bartender know how to make it. Their bartenders are well trained. If i were to come back to The Loft id probably come for sunset and to start off my night with appetizers / oysters and cocktails and then move on to somewhere else thats a bit more lively. read more

5 stars for this romantic seaside restaurant in the Montage resort. We came here for Valentine's Day and their prix fixe menu sounded appetizing. Jouet champagne to start plus a 3 course menu. More on the food later. The ambiance and views are everything. We got a patio seat overlooking the pool and ocean. The sunset was stunning and we couldn't be more thankful to just be out. Despite a cold evening, the outdoor heaters were blasting and we felt very comfortable, even warm. The service was awesome. Water and champagne glasses were constantly topped off. Food came quick and warm. Servers were attentive. Our baby boy was with us and the staff were very accommodating. Food was flavorful and well executed. The carpaccio reminded me of a similar dish at momofuku which was delicious. The portion size for the lamb (cooked perfectly) was huge as you can see from the photo. Gorgeous views from the patio. I wasn't expecting the loft to be as good as it was. The food was excellent and the service was also excellent. Our waiter gave detailed information on the dishes and provided great recommendations. We had the seasonal soup (Yukon potatoes and garlic bisque), coffee encrusted steak, the mushrooms, and finished off with a chocolate sundae. The food was really, really good. Had brunch today at the Loft restaurant at Montage. Didn't have a reservation but the wait wasn't that bad. We got a good table with a window view. They only get one star because the view and hotel were very nice. I ordered a margarita. It was the worst margarita I've ever had. It wasn't flavorful at all and not even spicy which is what I requested. It was very disappointing. The service was not the best experience as expected for a high end restaurant and we had to flag him several times which was frustrating. I had an iron steak with fries. The server also mentioned it's best on the menu anyways. It was very nasty. The meat tasted rubbery and flavorless and I had to put butter on it in order to make it edible. The French fries and salad were the only good things. The steak knife was so funny as it looked very cheap and not even sharp enough to cut the steak. The other food was very good but the French toast wasn't as good as other places. The bacon was perfect and crispy, which was the only positive. The egg white omelette wasn't anything special and it tasted like we had it at a high end Diner. I wouldn't recommend you having a high end brunch here. Pretty close to the perfect spot for a nice brunch. Great views of the ocean and choice seating and service. Don't come here if on a budget or diet, however. Brioche French toast followed by excellent three egg omelette and portion size was very good indeed! Fruit was tasteless but that's probably a seasonal issue. Coffee was good, but too strong. Bread choices were good and service was very good. It can get a bit noisy if all tables are occupied. Somewhat pricey, but this goes with the territory', as this is an exclusive hotel. Parking is included in the cost of the meal and care is taken of each vehicle parked. I recommend The Loft. read more

I thought the restaurant would get a 5 star rating. I wanted to give them a 5 Star rating. I love the Montage and have been coming to the hotel since they opened. However, I couldn't, in good conscience, give them a high rating, especially considering it's a high end restaurant. In fact, I drop them to a 3 Star because expectations are much greater for a restaurant of this caliber. Before I detail the specific reasons for the lower rating, let me say that the service, food and location is mostly excellent. So they start out a 5 Star rating and lose it for a few reasons. We had a party of 9 there for a friend's birthday. Again, most of the service was excellent. However, they made an egregious service error that a five Star fine dining restaurant should not. They served all guests their entree, except one female. There was no explanation for the first 5 minutes. Finally, the server came by and said they dropped her dish and they were making a new dish. It took 10 mins so she told everyone to start eating so their food wouldn't get cold. She just sat there with nothing. Several major errors were made out of this one mistake. 1) They should've given the female her entree before a male that had the same entree. It's just common courtesy to have a man wait before a woman. 2) A manager should've visited the table immediately and explained the error and offered a quick substitute and/or to comp the meal or portion of the bill. 3. She ordered seared scallops, which take 3 mins to make. They should've had the dish out much quicker. Another service error occurred when the servers forgot to bring out two of the sides until the end of the meal. This is inexcusable at a fine dining restaurant. To make matters worse, while they comped one of the sides, they still charged for the other. They had us eat our sides after the meal. Our night ended with one more service error. We were charged for an extra appetizer. We had to have that removed before we could pay the bill, which delayed our departure to another event. Another reason for the lower rating is due the food. Again, it's mostly excellent. But it's not the best I've ever had and way over priced for what it is. I understand you're paying for the location and being at a resort, but my expectation is that I'm wowed by the food and I go away thinking it was one of the best. However, I would say it was comparable to any nice meal I've had at a Marriott or Hilton so I wasn't impressed. I love the Montage and so wanted to love The Loft, but I will likely not be back. read more

First of all we had to wait 30 minutes to have our waiter bring us water then another 15 for him to come back to take our order, once our order was placed we noticed our utensils were dirty I asked to have them replaced it took another 10 minutes and no apology or concern to why my utensils were dirty. This is a unsafe time we are in and the fact that we are going out to have brunch realizing how careless the staff is makes me worry about ever going back to montage again. It's unacceptable and dangerous to operate with carelessness. Extremely disappointed, one of my favorite places I may never trust or visit again. read more

Wow. I saw a few reviews mentioning the price point of The Loft but for the level of service you receive and the quality of food served, it's well worth it. We made a last minute reservation three hours before arriving and were seated outside without any issue, despite not mentioning a preference in the notes (granted, it was just a table of two). After being seated our server arrived within minutes and got our drink order in. Our server delivered the drinks while simultaneously taking our order and before we knew it the food was at the table. (Seriously, it couldn't have been more than ten minutes before we were served.) Each entree we tried was delicious (see photos) and I should warn you, have your appetite ready! I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the dishes and amount of food per plate. If we intend to spend the day in Laguna again, we'll definitely be back. read more

If you're going for the view, it's beautiful. If you're going for the food, don't waste your time (or money!). Made a reservation here for my dad's 70th birthday dinner based solely on the pics of the view. He's a foodie from out of town, so I wanted to impress with our beautiful ocean views and a scrumptious meal. The Loft delivered on the views, which is why I'm giving 3 stars. But the food...wow. They try so hard, use all the key menu descriptions to entice you, and in the end all our meals were flavorless and lacking. - corvina fish: tiny piece of fish; nice sear but the inside was dry; zero flavor in both the sauces on the plate (which were basically the only thing on the plate besides a small piece of fish). It was so flavorless, I got worried I might have Covid and wasn't able to taste anything! - ribeye: my mom asked for medium rare. Came medium well. She kept thinking it would get redder towards the middle, and by the time we realized it wasn't, she would've had to wait too long and would've missed the meal if we sent it back. Also, flavorless. - New York steak: my husband said this was ok. Just ok. - pork chop: thankfully my dad, the birthday boy, liked his meal. But also said it wasn't to die for. - sides: the mashed potato portion size was laughable. Mayyybe the size of a can of tuna. The Brussels sprouts were good but also spicy, so be warned. The Mac n cheese was a good portion size and actually really delicious. The best thing we ate all night. We also got an off-menu Caesar salad that was really tasty. - sundaes: the ice cream was icy - not creamy - and had a freezer burned texture. It also, shockingly, lacked a lot of flavor. The chocolate sauce was really thin, not fudge-y, and again, barely had any flavor! My dad is the food-lover, so having his birthday dinner here and having the food be sub par was disappointing. Thankfully he enjoyed his meal more than the rest of us, but it felt like a letdown to spend so much on a meal that really lacked so much. I don't often write bad reviews, but I'm hoping to save someone else from spending as much as we did on a pretty blah meal! Ordering a dozen oysters and cheese board was the best idea we've made. Not only was the food super fresh, well presented with the greatest customer service, Jade and the gentlemen that has been there for over 21 years (I apologize for not remembering your name) took well care of us. I highly recommend asking them to serve you because without this experience, I don't think I would recommend this to my friends. Ok so I'm surprised not everyone is mentioning this, but maybe people like pigeons more than I do. If you want to impress someone, I suggest not taking them to the Loft unless your idea of luxury is to have a dozen pigeons wandering around the restaurant, eating off the floor and going under your table and around your feet. The balcony doors are open and the pigeons are all over the balcony where people are eating and then they fly indoors and make themselves at home. Besides being a health hazard, it's not something you expect when you are at a luxury hotel restaurant. I asked the waiter "what's with the pigeons" he was very understanding , but explained everybody knows about them at every level of the business and they're trying to get rid of them. He said they had tried different methods including a Falconer who had worked but they discontinued that. I explained that the other luxury hotels in the area used falconers and other methods and didn't have this issue. The food was OK, but hard to enjoy when I kept wondering if the pigeons were making themselves a sandwich in the kitchen. I know too much about the disease transmission of pigeons to be as relaxed as the family who was feeding pigeons at the next table was. We were here for a birthday celebration and it really put a damper on the experience. It was family so they understood. The staff at the Loft are the best! Thank you all so much for making our experience epic! I secretly told the staff it was a celebration for my mother-in-law's birthday and for my father-in-law who incredibly restored his health. They arranged us to sit on the patio for a great view. Jennifer was the one who served us. She is just amazing. She pulled out the secret vegan menu for us because some of us are vegan. She went above and beyond to make sure our food and drinks are excellent. The make your own omelette was good according to my in-laws. I tried quinoa and mushrooms, farro and baby squash, vegan bolognese, and sweet potato hash. They were all good. Hard to tell which one is better. I thought the sweet potato hash was like potato hash but it wasn't quite like it. It has lots of grains in it which is healthier anyway. The mimosa was fantastic. Although I don't drink alcohol anymore, I had some of it and it tasted good. The hostess even came over to take some pictures for us. Everyone was so nice. I can tell my in-laws were so happy today. We had a 5:00pm reservation for Christmas dinner and sat down around 5:30pm. We also had a 6 month old baby with us. Two hours later we were still waiting for our food. Never got to dessert and had to take that to go in the end. Over $1,200 later we left not having a good experience, no dessert and the only person in our party who had the salad was throwing up and had bad cramps and diarrhea 30 minutes after we left the restaurant! Ambiance felt like they stuffed as many people in as possible thereby causing the mediocre food and bad service :( After a few years of Christmas dinners here, I doubt they'll see us next year!!! This is a great place for breakfast, brunch or lunch. Granted, I didn't come here for dinner nor would I tried to come here during a nighttime traffic. The restaurant is located in the Montage in front of one of the most luxurious beach view you'll ever see. I love coming here early in the morning when guests of the hotel are not up yet to venture down to the restaurant for that early breakfast or brunch. Be aware of that it gets crazy by 9am, so I usually tried to come around 8am and boned out by 10 when it gets insane. The menu is simple enough and you can tell that it's mostly breakfast item that suits towards "clean living" crowd. Nothing overly savory or some humongous portion. If you are into that type of food, there are some down the street for that cast iron greasy brunch. The menu pricing which I am surprised people are complaining about. This is the Montage. If you are already there, then you pretty much can guess which type of crowd, guest, visitor, or diner that would come into this type of restaurant. So I'm pretty certain everyone knows what is going to happen. (unabashed cash register sounds clicking in the background) Forget the pricing for a moment, the fact is... I'm always made to feel welcome. They always offer me "newspaper" or "magazine" (cough cough **prints** media). I can guess who still uses prints. Oh yeah... free wifi. Top notch friendly service that caters to every need. Always attentive and can be around when you needed their attention. I love coming here in this posh establishment with amenities that makes you feel like you are going to enjoy it. Sitting at the patio view in the morning is awesome (don't worry they got heat lamp if you're cold). The clear view of the sky, clean ocean, golden sand beach, and evanescent smell of the air. Oh yeah, lobster benny and your choice of oysters as well! Seriously, the mood is always great. You never really tried to measure value with this kinda visit. It's somewhat pointless if you think everything is measured by the expectations. For me, if I can have staycation at that hotel every weekend and then go up early every weekend morning for this, I would. I would come here for the egg benny (lobster would be the choice). Give you a heads up, the early morning breakfast are limited to Eggs and pastries dishes. There is one "strip steak" type breakfast dish and a few seafood dishes. Fruits and veg as well.
