Service started fine, but when we mentioned our drinks were flat, the server said he would check the drink station and came back with samples of the drinks but they were still flat so we opted for iced tea. The food came out quickly, but both the Korean Galbi and Chicken Katsu were dry and lacked flavor. The mac salad was overcooked and bland, and the cabbage slaw was overly sweet. We were only checked on once or twice during our visit, and the busser was more attentive than our server. Tried to reach out to them by phone and email to give feedback privately, but after waiting a few days with no contact, it's clear that management/ownership doesn't care about service and standards and it shows in their decline over the years. I used to be a regular here when I lived in the area and now I try to stop by whenever I'm around the area to support a mom and pop place I used to frequent. I noticed the quality of the food slowly declining over the years, but always gave them the benefit of the doubt of it just being an "off day". The other night, a friend and I ordered take out and both of us got bacon fried rice. Not only was the green onions missing, which wasn't a big deal if that was the only issue, but the fried rice was completely inedible because of how salty it was. It tasted like they just dumped a bottle of soy sauce into it and it looked like it too (see photos). I even tried adding over a cup of white rice and refrying it to dilute the saltiness, but it STILL was too salty so I ended up trashing it since I was obviously pissed off at that point. I got this for dinner that night since I didn't want to cook, but not only did it ruin my dinner, it made me still have to cook and throw away my food/money at the same time. And the insult to injury is that I was the one actively trying to reach out to them to give feedback, but nothing. You guys lost a long time customer with this one. read more

I finally came back after 20 years. It feels different but the food is still good. I remember the place being a lot busier. We went on a Friday night and it was slow. I ordered the Loco Moco but instead of the patties I went with the Island Fried Chicken and went sunny on the eggs. It was soo good with the chicken! The portions could be better. Normally the food has always been good. However, the last few times we've taken out, the taste isn't the same. I just ordered the Korean BBQ Beef Fried Saimin, which I normally love, but there was no taste other than black pepper! Even the meat did not have its usual yummy flavor. Also, if you order the Saimin Soup later in the evening, the soup is so watered down (maybe to make it stretch without having to make more) there isn't much flavor. We had to doctor it up with soy sauce, salt, and dashi. Not sure if there's a new cook or just not the same passion in quality of taste. My Niece actually catered her wedding with food from this place a couple of years ago. I was sadly surprised that my last order of KBBQ was one of the worst servings of meat I have ever had. More than half of the so called beef, was comprised of fatty substance not meat (see photo). My wife's side of salad had a bunch of water (see photo). I don't know if there was a change in ownership, but I will not be returning. I've been coming here for years . It's very affordable and has a decent dining area which is something I never see in Hawaiian restaurants. Usually they are fas food type dining areas . I would have walked right out if I had not already paid for our food. What changed? Place Went down hill. Called in on Friday 7/18 to place an order for my wife's birthday. I have to say that Kenya was really awesome. She explained the family meals vs. trays. I would not be able to order more than two family meals so I ordered a 1/4 tray of Korean beef, 1/4 tray of teriyaki chicken, 1/4 tray of Mac salad, and 1/4 tray of mixed vegetables. I was supposed to pick up at 530p. Got there about 20 minutes early. Was told not ready and I was ok with that as I was early. However, I ended up waiting til 6p!!! No big deal, went to use the bath room while I waited. OMG! it was disgusting. Someone must have had the runs and blew the toilet up and was never cleaned, so gross. Trash all over the bathroom. Soap dispenser hanging on for dear life. Geez. Anyhow, our food is ready at 6p. I kindly asked for some. Just "some" hot sauce and teriyaki sauce. And the guy lectures me on how, I "was supposed to order that in advance and pay for it in advance". Keep in mind they were offering it to every other person picking up orders. Server was notified.. then asked me if I would like to have it remade or taken off my tab which I responded to him telling him that I would like to enjoy my meal. Food was remade. I've been here a couple of times with groups both big and small (from 2 people to a full crew of 11), and the service has always been just as warm and amazing--no matter the group size. The food? When I was in high school if you knew someone who worked at the Loft you would immediately think they're cool. This place has been hiring the coolest kids on the block and there is no pretense whatsoever when you step inside. Coming in you immediately get island feels. The kitchen is hidden on the right side with a long counter with the register and host/servers occupying the space. They are answering phones and taking orders, whether it be for take away or for those who want to stay and eat. When you sit down you'll be placed at tables or booths you'd find in any island diner. Thousands of butts and elbows have touched these spaces and you can feel the history. A laminated menu will come your way and you'll be able to decide where you want your mouth to take you. The one food item that has always stayed with me is the Island Style Fried Chicken. Deep fried with a sweet crunchy exterior and moist interior this is one of the best versions of fried chicken I have ever experienced in my life. I dream about this at times and it's what brings me back to the Loft. Served with one of the better Mac salads (I hate macaroni salad/potato salad usually but I like theirs), two scoops of white rice, and a small salad made of shredded cabbage and tossed in a sweet vinaigrette and tiny ramen noodles this dish is perfection. Just make sure to mix some Sriracha onto it. I've also had their kalbi (Hawaiian style, not Korean) and it hits the spot. Not exceptional or great but higher quality than the normal. The Loco Moco is tasty with a sultry gravy. The dish itself can be quite salty and that's where the rice helps balance it all out. For drinks, they also have those canned Hawaiian juices you see everywhere in Hawaii. Always a good sidekick for the mains. By the way, all the food I just mentioned above will run you about $35. It's that affordable. In truth, this place for those who've never been here before can be interpreted as run down or even old. This not a modern space nor a flashy, trendy menu. Perhaps the nostalgia is what hits me hard when it comes to this place but when it comes to unique takes on Hawaiian classics along with everything lining up perfectly without breaking the bank The Loft has not only stood the test of time, but also continues to live rent free in my head. The macaroni was fire had a potato salad flavor which was different but I was feeling it . At first, I was a bit skeptical eating here with all of the lower rated reviews. However, I had a pleasant experience. Came here for a late dinner with some friends and didn't have to wait that long for our food. Granted, there were only 4 other tables filled while we were there. First of all, I loved the island music playing and interior is pretty homey. I haven't seen other places have a half order option for loco moco, so I was glad to see that on the menu! We each ordered the Island Style Fried Chicken, I got bbq beef and my husband got the Kalbi rib and Korean chicken. Gave two stars because I think if we would've gotten the food hot and fresh, it could've been a delicious plate in addition to larger portions. We came here late one night while in the area and was craving Hawaiian food. I've been here a few times and was excited to be back and eat. We took our seat at a booth and were given menus. It took a while before our server came to take our order, even though there were only about 5 tables being serviced. Our server was very nice though. We order the Kalbi short rib plates and a Saimin soup. The Kalbi short rib plates were delicious, meat was cooked well and mac salad was great. The Saimin was tasty, but unfortunately it wasn't hot, more like luke warm. I can't lie, I was very disappointed in the Saimin. The restaurant I knew from before, wasn't the same. It looked tired. The Loft has long been a Hawaiian food staple in this area and used to be one of our main go-to spots. It had been a while since we tried them, but I was glad to see their prices actually haven't really went up after all these years, and you still get a pretty good portion of food for the amount. I got my usual chicken katsu plate to go - the food wasn't too bad but not great. The bad news is I ended up finding not one, but two hairs in the saimin - so sadly it'll be a while before we pay them another visit. read more

I've been coming here for years and the one constant I've found is the stellar food. The island music and Disney movies in the background is always nice as well. Normally, the service is pretty good, but today they overcharged my two entrees by $4 and undercharged my musubi by 15¢. When I brought it to the staff's attention, they were quite indifferent about it. No apologies whatsoever. As far as I've known, they've always done the handwritten receipts, which I personally do not like. Accidents can happen, and without a computer with set prices, and automatic calculations, errors can become more commonplace. I see the front has an updated payment system, I do not understand why they have yet to update their receipt system. Who knows how many accidents with the pricing has occured, and based upon their reaction to the mistake, I feel like it's happened many times before. I Love this place. I'll continue to eat here.
