Cockroach infested!!! Came here with my wife because I felt like some spam musubis. As I was sitting there, after I finished my food, I looked up and noticed something crawling around. There were cockroaches in the ceiling lights. Looked like 2 dead ones and 1 live one. Will not be coming back here again.

Wow. I'm from Hawaii and I was impressed at how ONO (delicious) the food was! Kalua pig - juicy and smoky (not the artificial smoke), flavorful without too much oil or salt- perfect balance. Easily better than some places in Hawaii, and definitely best place in the area I have found so far. 8/5 I wish there was more cabbage, because I love cabbage. $16.10 for kalua plate, Aina $19.55 for beef rib chicken teriyaki and kalua pig Beef rib - was well marinated, soft, moist, crispy on the outside without being tough or burnt. Fall off the bone good. there is one more place in Buena park that is very very good as well for the beef rib. 8/5 $19.55 for beef rib chicken teriyaki and kalua pig Poke- was good, probably the most authentic I've had in the area. I had the shoyu poke with sea salad and yellow radish. Spam Musubi- would not recommend. Rice was a little undercooked, mushy, spam not well flavored. $3.50, $6 for 2 2/5

Was in the area so decided to drop by for lunch since I heard good things about it from social media. I got the katsu and grilled chicken combo plate, and it was unfortunately just ok. The grilled chicken was good and had a strong smokiness, but the katsu was pretty dry. I thought the mac salad was quite sweet for my liking too Hopefully the poke is better

Went for lunch. Totally understood that they're short staffed and were patient. We ordered combo lunch plates (as shown in pic). While it was tasty, it was quite dry. I'm not sure what would help? Extra sauce? My hubby said that his beef almost tasted like jerky. Prices and portions were great for the price. The musubi was good, but wished a thicker slice of spam, but I get it. Maybe a little more teriyaki sauce, like I said, a little dry, The Mac salad was good, it wasn't super sweet like some of the other places we have been. There's plenty of tables to sit and enjoy your meal. They have a self serve for fountain drinks and water. Napkins and sriracha at the counter if needed. Plenty of parking in the shared lot. I do want to come back and try the poke, but come early, by 1pm it was slim pickings.

OH GAHT DAYYUUM ! Found this place on yelp while I was looking for a poke spot for lunch safe to say I didn't choose poke based on my photos lol but it looked amazing as well. The gentleman at the counter was friendly and helpful with my selection. I ended up ordering the combo plate that had chicken katsu and Hawaiian BBQ chicken. Let me tell you don't walk, run and try this. The Katsu was perfectly crispy and tender all at once and the Hawaiian bbq chicken had so much flavor. The rice was bomb as was the Mac! Full of deliciousness you will not be disappointed! 1000/10 for me and I will most definitely be back!

(4/5) Popped into 808 Hawaiian Grill since it's right next to Mecca Matcha, my wife's go to matcha spot. Honestly, I didn't expect much from this hole-in-the-wall, but I was starving. First impression: it's hot inside no AC and the walls are plastered with historic photos of famous folks who've eaten there, which got me curious. My hopes skyrocketed when I opened my plate of beef ribs, huge and insanely delicious! I couldn't believe I'd never heard of this place while eating at big Hawaiian franchises. Only reason it's not 5 stars is the serving sizes can be inconsistent, and I've had better mac salad and chicken elsewhere. Still, the food and flavor are top-notch, and I'll definitely be back!

Food is hot and fresh. I tried the Momona plate. It was tasty. Staff is friendly. You can call to pick up your order. There's tables inside for dine in but most people I saw that day came for pick up orders.

Quite busy spot with variety of Hawaiian plate staples. I was unable to place my order by phone , so I made the drive over. Prepare to wait patiently though, it's a small business with few staff. Typical menu of plates : beef ribs or chicken katsu ate my usual choices, cones with a side of macaroni salad and rice . Smaller interior holds a few tables for dine in .

This doesn't even deserve to be called a loco moco

Ahhh.. The vibes were good and the service was quick to take our order, which was a nice start. Unfortunately, the poke wasn't ready until 12 PM, which was a bit of a letdown. We ordered four spam musubis and a loco moco, and the food came out fairly quickly. The musubis were just okay -- the spam slices were pretty thin and there was way more rice than spam. The loco moco was extremely dry, almost like they forgot the most important ingredient the gravy on the patties entirely, or barely added any at all, beef patties were over cooked and tough. I'm sorry this cannot be called a loco moco this was a disrespect. Overall, the experience was disappointing and not somewhere I'd return to.

A GO TO spot for Hawaiian bbq. They never miss. My favorite is the Pipi combo. They always greet with a smile and remember the folks that come through regularly. Food comes out fresh. Reasonable wait. Welcoming to eat inside or take it to go. A few tables outside to enjoy the SoCal weather.

    Momona

Great food, I usually recommend the Momona or the Pipi with the rice/mac salad side. Very hospitable staff who make it a great experience every time.

My other beef rib plate had meat on the bones but was severely burned

I was really craving the beef ribs from 808 so I ordered 3 plates of it to feed my family. I was literally in shock when I opened the first box. 2 out of the 3 ribs were meatless. Like someone ate all the meat and they sent me the bones. The third rib barely had any meat at all on it either. The second box I opened, the meat was incinerated, completely burned. I don't mind the char, that makes bbq delicious. These ribs were burned, dry, and bitter. My third dinner box had 3 decent ribs but they were not great either. There was scarce meat and it was overcooked, but not burned. I don't know what happened but it was too late to get the kids a new dinner this night and we were all disappointed. How you could give me ribs with NO MEAT on them baffles me.

The Aina Combo Plate. That beef rib tho...

This place is legit. Little hawaiiian spot in Artesia greets you with the smack in the face of delicious BBQ. Menu looks overwhelming, but its not. Its just diff combinations of their signature meats. My go-to order is the Aina Plate. Comes with Hawaiian Beef Rib, Hawaiian marinated chicken, & kalua pork. Chicken is yummy, just not my vibe. The kalua pork is yummy, shredded pulled pork not dry at all. But the star is the grilled Beef Rib omgee. Plate comes with macaroni salad and white rice. Also ordered couple of their Musubis, also fire. Everything is ordered fresh, so I would order ahead if you are strapped for time. Place is counter service with your order getting called up. Parking is usually plentiful, its shared shopping center parking but never had any issues.

Excellent service, great taste of food and great flavors. This place is a vibe. You need to come here!

    You offer party trays?

    Yes they have tray orders

Is this the same as the 808 local Hawaiian grill in orange?

Yes! I've been to both locations and the same man (I'm assuming the owner) was at both behind the counter.

    Do you cater?

    Yes they have catering menu

Are the ribs marinated with a lot of sugar? (Looking for Keto friendly options)

In a lot of ways, the place is similar to L&L Hawaiian Barbecue except for their large BBQ Beef Ribs. It seems they usually provide about 3 to 4 large ribs. Sweet and Tasty. Then they have the usual sides, rice and mac salad. I need to come back…

Did they just change the name or owner? What's the difference from before?

    Rebranded & updated their menu.

I'd never been there before, so this review is all about first impressions. As we approached, the sign caught my attention: "Under New Ownership." Outside, an employee sat scrolling on his phone. It was a quiet Sunday around 3 PM, and we were the only patrons in sight. Checking Yelp beforehand had been a bit of a letdown, as their menu featured items they no longer offer. No links were available either. We ordered half a pound of pulled pork, half a pound of brisket, and four pieces of cornbread--all priced reasonably. Their tap selection turned out to be decent. The Cali Squeeze Blood Orange was a standout, and they also seemed to carry Firestone Walker products, including 805. The staff were friendly and responsive, which was refreshing. While the brisket had cooled by the time we got home, it was still tender and flavorful--just like the pulled pork. The real surprise? The chimichurri that accompanied the brisket--an unexpected and delightful touch. Overall, I'd rate the experience as average. While it's clear they've got potential, a bit more effort could turn Wholly Smokes into a go-to spot. Leaning in on those small details would really elevate the experience.
