We were intrigued by the reviews and a craving for steak. We called ahead and got on the waitlist with an estimate of 45 minutes. Good thing we did, because what should have been a 10 minute drive turned into over 30 minutes trying to navigate our small RV around all the construction. When we finally got there the place was jumping. And it was a bit noisy. At first, our server was a bit frazzled, but warmed up and provided great service. Kudos to management- everyone was moving, the bussers, the food runners, the servers. Now, let's talk about the food. We started with the fried asparagus- really unique, crispy but not oily. The side salad with spicy ranch was perfect. The entrees were the star. The coffee burger was so good. Cooked and seasoned perfectly at medium rare. So juicy and flavorful. The bun was toasted nicely and paired well. The fries were decent. And the menu did not lie when it said the 14 oz ribeye was the best steak. Again, seasoned and cooked perfectly medium--rare. We were the first ones in the door. As we weren't able to make a reservation, we arrived at 4:15pm (they open at 5pm). By 4:45pm there was a long line on both sides of the door along the building. We were seated immediately. They are trained to keep people happy and moving along to accommodate many guests. We had the fried mushrooms as an appetizer and weren't disappointed. They were fried perfectly and weren't heavy and greasy. The grilled pork chop cooked medium was AMAZING! We truly didn't know that a pork chop could be so juicy, tender & flavorful! The 14 oz ribeye steak with fried shrimp was delicious, as well. The bacon on the baked potato and in the potato casserole was the best bacon we have ever eaten. No room for dessert, but if it was like the rest of the food, it was probably amazing, too! Refills on drinks were timed perfectly. Bus staff was at the ready to collect the empty plates. We were lucky enough to be next to a couple of regulars while waiting to get in who gave us some recommendations on what to order. They weren't wrong and there's definitely a reason why they are regular customers. Atmosphere was simple, but nice. Love the exposed brick and gas lamps. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Not too crowded despite the large number of people that were seated at once. Despite the prices, dress is casual. We saw shorts, jeans, flip flops, as well as dressy dress. Only ONE complaint and it's a big one...there in only one ladies room with one stall. Yes, there was a continual line the entire time we were there. Several people told me this is the best place in Laurel currently... my experience however wasn't so good. My mom was really not happy with her crab cake pasta and for the price she was really upset she only got one crab cake. I opted for a simple burger hoping that could be a decent meal but it really wasn't all that good of a burger to be honest... I have eaten a LOT of burgers and I would certainly rank this one towards the lower percentile of those I've eaten. It was also quite disappointing that they only had tiny little sauce packets for the condiments. The space is really nice while the service could definitely be a LOT better and good luck getting a refill in a timely manner. I really hope The Loft is just experiencing initial opening issues and will get better consistency and quality going on. The one high point of the meal here was the salad which was the best thing we had. The bones certainly seem to be present for this place to be successful but they really need to step up the food and service for the prices they charge. I will make a return visit in several months and see how things are going and I really really hope I'm able to have a great experience on my next visit. read more

When we arrived we had to wait it was around 6:30 pm the restaurant was busy so we were told we had to wait if we didn't want to eat out side it was cold and raining so that was a no go then we said we would wait in the bar only to see that every Seat was reserved with a place card no one even gave us an acknowledgment or offered to take e drink finally as we were trying to order they told us a table was ready . The server was pleasant and knowledgeable the food arrived at a great pace for being busy . There was live entertainment that was fine but it is a very loud atmosphere, and it only played into that. Went there at 5:45 last night. Got on the wait list and was told 1 hour wait. After 1 hour of many people coming and going they said we would be seated next. At 7pm they said they might could seat us outside soon or another hour wait. We left feeling fairly certain that walk ins after us were seated. Perfect dinner ambiance. My husband and I had been traveling all day for our visit to Laurel. We had eaten to go foods and snacks as we traveled. We decided we needed something substantial for dinner and we were not disappointed! We started with the Fried Green Tomatoes. They were delicious and served with a crawfish sauce that was amazing. We shared the Shrimp dinner. There were 12 huge butterfly shrimp that we couldn't even finish. I'm all honesty they may have been THE most delicious shrimp we've ever eaten. We had the loaded baked potato and salad with them and it all paired perfectly. Our waitress was exceptional. The only reason we didn't give it 5 stars: we hadn't even finished 1 green tomato when our entree arrived and my husband ordered a beer-which didn't come for about 15 minutes and wasn't what her ordered. Both dishes were outstanding and portions far more than anyone should eat. The potato casserole is a must order. The service provided by Alex was perfect. She knows the menu well and can guide you through the choices. Always on top of things to make sure you have everything you want or need. The restaurant is nicely decorated to provide that comfortable feeling that just makes you feel like you have been there before. We visited Laurel on a whim on the way home from a trip and asked at all the shops we stopped at (5 or so) where they suggested we eat dinner, it was unanimously this spot but we were warned.... they book out super far in advance. 06.06.17 Day 3 in Laurel, MS. When you watch that tv show Hometown on HGTV, then you will know Laurel, MS. This show has featured the historic downtown establishments and one of them is The Loft. We came here on a rainy Tuesday. The hostess got us seated quickly. it was kinda slow as far as the dining area is concerned in my opinion...quite a few empty seats. I liked the bricked wall and those fans that keeps the place cool. The rest of the place may need a little fixing. Drinks were just water with lemon and sweetened tea. I ordered for the (Grilled) Chicken Alfredo and boyfriend had the Prime Rib Sandwich. Okay...Prime Rib had flavor but was cooked medium rare rather than medium well. It's average he said. My Chicken Alfredo was a tad bit saucy for the Penne pasta. Again it's average. Now let's talk about service (or the lack of it). If you're featured on a show I guess one will expect more...a smile from the wait staff, checking if drinks needs to be refilled, or asking how everything is. Now these are basics. Offer at least if there's room for dessert. Then please put the tab on a check cover...don't just hand it down on the table. It's not fast food place. This is the 2nd time that I have come to this restaurant. Both times were very busy. The food is good though a little pricey. The only available seating was outside. It was cute, nice gas lanterns and it was not too hot. When the food came, things changed. There were lots of flies. I might have swallowed one. I had the most amazing 20 oz ribeye. I only know one place where I ever got a better steak and it was three states away and is long gone. Enjoyed the ribeye so much I went back a second time and it was perfection yet again. Great ranch dressing for my salad and excellent tea. Service was impeccable. The ambiance is nice and relaxing. Wonderful place. We made reservations ahead of time and that is highly recommended. We had the fried asparagus for an appetizer and it was delicious. I split the fried shrimp platter with someone else in the party and it was great. There is a charge to split a plate, but that does include an extra side, salad and dinner roll. Re-visited The Loft this evening 3-12-24. We visited last 7 years ago when we flew in from Las Vegas for the weekend to tour Laurel. We arrived tonight, this time, visiting Laurel via our Motorcoach on our year long tour of the United States. We're 37 states down and back in Laurel for round 2. After dropping $ visiting all the dog friendly stores in Laurel, we noticed that The Loft, the restaurant we visited 7 years ago had an outdoor patio. Score! We had our 18lb dogs in a stroller while shopping the stores and were excited to sit down to a nice meal. Our dogs have traveled with us throughout the US and has literally been to at least a 100 restaurants & are 100% well behaved. We're starving so I ask the kind hostess if their outdoor patio was dog friendly- she asks how big our dogs are, seeing our two small well dressed hairless (allergy free) dogs confined in a stroller welcomed us and seated us to one of appx. dozen OUTSIDE tables in the corner. There were only 2 other occupied tables so, 10 other empty tables. We were pretty much sitting alone quietly, without issue in a corner outside. We were greeted by the waitress and ordered cocktails. We were feeling happy & cozy, pups were napping. We had already chosen our main entrees when... the manager sent the super sweet and apologetic teenaged hostess to do his/her dirty work. She was sent to tell us we had to leave. We were already welcomed to our table, we ordered, presented NO issue and were kicked out. It was VERY humiliating to be kicked out of a restaurant. The infuriating part was the manager was too chicken sh*t to tell us himself. Piss poor management in mostly friendly Laurel. First time visitors to Laurel and everyone recommended The Loft! We were staying right next door so it was a great location. We noticed the night before that they were lined up before opening at 5 so we made sure to get in line at 4:45. We got in line with maybe 3-4 smaller parties ahead of us. We were unaware that reservations could be taken as it was not listed any where on building and there's not a restaurant website. I attempted to call to double check and was unable to speak to anyone. We got to the hostess stand and stated there were two of us- we were told they were full and could not seat anyone and that it would be 1 hour...yet there were plenty of open tables. We were told the rest of the tables were all reservations- some of which at 8 and 9pm and that no one could be sat...there were 3 seats at the bar to which we sat at- but even they were reserved for 8pm. We sat at the bar and the service was not good at all. We waited and waited and waited. Everyone else that walked up to the bar were locals and the bartender knew them all by name. It seems they know when which locals will be coming on which night and save them seats. Food wasn't great, service was lacking- over all I would not recommend The Loft. Menu prices were not consistent with what I was charged on my bill. read more

I highly recommend calling ahead and securing reservations. Walk ins, even if your name is written down, won't be seated before reservations. Meaning if someone calls for a reservation at 6, and you arrive at 5:30 and are told you have a 30 minute wait, the reservations will be seated before you. Had a 5:30 reservation at The Loft tonight. The parking at this time is really messed up due to construction but it is open and service is pretty quick. They have indoor and outdoor seating. For the heat I would recommend inside dining but they do have outside dining if that is in your wheelhouse. We started off with cheese wedges as our appetizer. While our friends had the fried asparagus. The Mozzarella Wedges were typical. Nothing special there. Our friends said the asparagus was outstanding. I did not try it as I do not like it. I got an IPA draft beer which is really good. One thing that stands out is the work ethic of the workers and manager. If they see a dirty dish sitting on the table it comes off very quick. The manager helps out carrying food and cleaning tables of dishes. Our salads came quickly. They had a variety of dressings, but they had no French which I found very odd. The raspberry vinaigrette was the house speciality which my friends got. They said it wasn't bad but nothing to brag about. My wife got the spicy ranch was very good. I had to make a vinegar and oil dressing. You can't go wrong with that classic. I ordered steak and shrimp. The steak was AMAZING! as was the shrimp. The fries were as cold as ice. But the steak made up for that in my opinion. My wife got the red fish which she said was amazing! The total cost of an appetizer, meals, and tip was just over $100. The staff was friendly and courteous throughout our visit, and everyone had on their masks and was doing everything they could to keep our environment feeling nice and safe. On advice from some of the local shops, we decided to give The Loft a try. It came highly recommended and we made reservations Thursday night for Dinner on Friday. Of note, make a reservation a few days in advance for Friday and Saturday nights. We had the BBQ shrimp for an appetizer and it was delicious. I ordered the bone-in pork chop and my wife had the Filet Mignon. Both were cooked perfectly and had amazing flavor. Now for the not so good. The baked potato came out very dry and not very warm, don't think it was very fresh. My wife's steamed broccoli looked to be more boiled then steamed, very dull color and way too much butter. Just a suggestion, cloth napkins and a beer/wine/cocktail menu would be great for the high end feel of the restaurant. Overall, I would definitely give them a try again or recommend others to do the same. read more

We did the tourist thing in Laurel this past week. Ate dinner at The Loft both Tuesday, with Abby as our server, and Thursday, with Emma as our server. I'll start with how fabulous these 2 young ladies were. Very attentive, took excellent care of us, and we just found them very nice and we had lovely conversations with them. The food both nights were excellent as well as the cocktails. On Tuesday, I had the special of fried oysters and hubby had the fried shrimp. We also had the appetizer of steak bites. On Thursday, I had the 9 oz filet tenderloin wrapped in bacon (pricey) and hubby had the Alfredo pasta with steak strips. My hubby is not a steak person, but loved the tenderness/flavor of the steak bites and steak strips. He also said the Alfredo sauce was the best he's ever had. Our compliments to the chef and bartender as well. Very enjoyable meals. read more
