    French toast.

I don't know how I haven't discovered this little gem of a diner yet, but I'm sure glad I did. My bestie was in town and breakfast was on our mind, so we headed down and grabbed seats at the counter. It was fun watching the artistic moves of the kitchen staff cooking up all sorts of deliciousness. With our mugs full of their tasty Fidalgo coffee, we eagerly awaited our breakfasts. I got the French toast breakfast, and my friend got the biscuits and gravy with some hash browns. It was all hot and tasty. I'm definitely adding this to my list of breakfast spots - I've got their breakfast chimichanga on my mind for next time.

Small town diner located in Mount Vernon, Washington, serving up classic diner fare in building that has housed a diner since the 1940's Our group of eight took an early morning tour of the RoozenGaarde Tulip farm, so when it was over, we needed a nearby place to have breakfast. The Lunchbox Diner seemed like a good choice to have enough variety to satisfy our entire group. We got lucky in that there was two empty tables that could be put together to seat us, and we ended up staying over an hour there. Our table ended up ordering French Dip with fries ($17.99), Reuben Sandwich with cup of turkey noodle ($17.99); Patty Melt with cup of tortilla soup ($20.99); Smash Burger ($14.99); Breakfast Sandwich ($12.99); Kids Cake breakfast ($11.99); chocolate milk ($3.99); Coffee ($3.49); Fountain Pop ($3.49). The bread used for all the sandwiches were good: hefty with good thickness and grilled nicely. Everyone was friendly, and our party seemed to enjoy their meal. You can pay up front with credit card, and by the time we left, the place was getting really full.

Food is very tasty. The waitress was very nice and kept our drinks full even with a full restaurant. The restraunt is a quaint little place with about 14 tables and 6 bar stools. The onion rings ca.e out so hot we had to let them cool. There is not a lot of street parking close by, so you may have to walk a block or two. Get there early because the locals fill it up about noon. This is a must try restraunt.

Another great local restaurant with early hours and a fantastic breakfast menu. I enjoyed their chicken fried steak, gravy was a bit much but the food overall was good.

One of the best chicken fried steaks!

If you're looking for a place that locals frequent and delicious food made from scratch, you found it! Great, quick service, endless yummy coffee refills, and food that begs to be eaten, but your tummy is smaller than your eyes. We'll be back!

Sadly, the food was mediocre, at best. I imagine, as a business, they're also wasting so much money on portion sizes. Huge meals do not equate to quality. I really wanted to love it because it's a family restaurant but there was a lot left to be desired. Cons: - The majority of our experience was spent waiting - The staff seemed confused and very overwhelmed - The food was boring and didn't look good on the plate (I got the biscuits and gravy, my friend got chicken fried steak) Pros: - The staff was very friendly - Bathroom was clean - The freshly squeezed orange juice was incredible - Everyone seemed to be trying their best, I think the system just needs a lot of work

Hopefully the wait for food at the table isn't as long normally because if it is that's ridiculous. 2 coffees & a switch to water later our food finally arrived. Generous portion of potatoes, the corn beef was delicious and of course the biscuits was massive!

Regulars clearly know each other and the staff, which you don't really see much anymore. Refreshing. Service matched that energy -- warm and good throughout. I went with my go-to order, the chicken fried steak. It's not the best I've had -- the steak itself had more of a ground meat texture than a proper cut, which was a little different. But it was enormous and absolutely hit the spot. The biscuit on the side was solid too. My husband got the ham and said it was juicy and well done. Not a destination spot necessarily, but a great find if you're in the area and want a hearty, unpretentious brunch.

Calico Cupboard is one of those places that you NEED to go to when you're in town…read more When you get there, you just sign in yourself at the stand which is a good system so no one has to check you in when they're already pretty busy. While you're waiting you can go to the shop down the stairs or go to the dessert area right next to the waiting area to get some great desserts. Last time i was there I saw frosted cream cheese sugar cookies, and pies, and more. When you get seated there are so many great food options, lots of options, same with drinks. They are only open until 3:30 pm so be sure to manage time well. And don't expect an empty place, it's usually populated. Tight space, so scoot in those chairs as far as you can. We had breakfast there last Wednesday morning, and from the moment we arrived, it felt special. The outside is adorable, but somehow the inside is even more charming. There's such a warm, welcoming energy the second you walk in. Off to the side is their incredible shop, "Re-Feather Your Nest," filled with thousands of unique and beautiful items--it honestly feels like a destination all on its own. To the left when you enter, you're greeted by their bakery cases, and wow--there are more options than most bakeries I've ever seen. Everything looked amazing, and we were lucky enough to be seated right away (always a win!). The restaurant itself is two stories, and our table overlooked the store below, which made the whole experience even more fun. We started with their famous cinnamon roll, fresh coffee (with the cutest little design on top!), and freshly squeezed grapefruit juice--which was incredibly refreshing. For breakfast, I ordered the Calico Benedict on a homemade English muffin with corned beef--so good! And the country-style potatoes? Easily some of the best I've ever had. I couldn't even finish them and happily took the rest home...they were just as delicious the next day. My husband ordered the Breakfast Sampler with sausage and loved every bite as well. What really stood out, beyond the food, was how clean everything was and how genuinely happy the staff seemed. You can tell they enjoy working there, and that makes such a difference. After breakfast, we wandered through the gift shop and found so many unique treasures--big and small. I actually visited Magnolia in Waco, Texas a couple of months ago, and honestly, this is the kind of charming, personality-filled place that would fit right in there (and maybe even outshine it!). If you're ever in the area, I highly recommend stopping by--even if it's just to browse the shop. It's one of those rare places that truly has it all. A must-visit!

The name of this…read moreplace excited him so much that he decided to surprise me by not telling me where we were going. He could not be more hype about an average diner called 'Big Scoop'. The area has some parking spots, but when we arrived, all the parking spaces and all the tables were taken. They were quite busy for a Wednesday evening. When we arrived, we had no idea what to do. Do we sit ourselves? Do we wait to be seated? Do we place an order at the counter and then sit? There was no signage and no greeting to inform us. So we stood there, feeling silly and out of place, for a good few minutes, before one adult staff member approached the counter to punch an order into a computer and literally said to us, 'I don't have time to talk to customers right now, sorry.' Ooooookay we'll just keep standing here. Eventually, our waitress/savior Kate greeted us, sat us at a table, and gave us menus. She was younger, upbeat, kind, and apologetic for the confusion. We looked over the menu, and a third staff member came by to take our order. I ordered the Big Scoop cheeseburger basket with fries & my husband ordered the hot ham & cheese with fries. The hot ham & cheese was your average grilled cheese with a protein. Nothing special. The burger was good, but nothing special there either. You'll notice that the other half of the menu is all. ice. cream. Just options and options of different ways to order your ice cream; the flavors are listed on the wall, not on the menu. They are happy to make any changes or customizations to your ice cream order. IMO the menu was overwhelming with no easy way to sort or compare options, so it needs an overhaul in the way it's presented. We ended up getting the #13, Sweet Superstitions, with the flavors Moose Tracks & chocolate peanut butter ice cream scoops. Again, nothing special here; the two cherries promised in the menu was just one cherry cut in half, and the peanuts were stale. The fudge wasn't hot either. For a place called Big Scoop, we got pretty small scoops of ice cream. When we checked out at the counter, Kate helped us out again. She was very encouraging and was so excited to have us in town for the tulip festival. I hope Kate gets a raise or goes far in life! Overall, a fun memory but an underwhelming experience in terms of service and flavor.
