Had a really great experience with the repair for my 2011 Macbook Pro. I had tried to fix my machine myself but realized I might have had a hardware issue so I looked up well-rated Mac repair shops. I initially found The Mac Surgeon on Thumbtack. Ted was extremely professional and respectful. When I reached out, he responded immediately and set up a time to come out to my apartment to do a diagnostic. He's got years of experience as an Apple Certified technician and made sure to explain all the steps of the diagnostic test as we went along to show me the problems. I ended up having to replace my logic board and he said he would order the part for me and install at another date. When he returned, he made sure to sanitize the workspace, his tools, and methodically cleaned my machine as he installed the part. It ended up taking about an hour but he's very amicable so it was a pleasant experience. I ended up paying for a diagnostic + cost of the part + his labor and it was cheaper than going to a brick and mortar. Since he came to my apartment on my schedule I thought it was great. Ted also said I can reach out if I had any issues with the part. Highly recommend his service and won't hesitate to contact him for another job if I have any more problems in the future. read more

I spilled some scotch that splashed on my 2015 MacBook Pro keyboard. The computer would start and then shut down. Communication and service was great with Ted. We scheduled a diagnostic home visit. He provided an honest assessment on what I needed for the repair explaining and showing the area on concern. I ordered parts on eBay with his assistance because he didn't have the logic board readily in stock which would have cost more. Once I receive the items, he will come back to repair. I had another MacBook Pro I asked if he could look at because the tracking mouse pad didn't work. He did another diagnostic and fixed the issue. He didn't charge me for another diagnostic. My Mac's battery became swollen over last few months. Needed someone who knows how to replace it. I rarely write reviews as you can see on my page but The Mac Surgeon took care of my needs in the most efficient, and excuse my language, non-BS way of resolving a problem. I made the mistake of updating my Macbook Pro to OS X Catalina and was looking for ways to either upgrade my old IMac (2015) while increasing the Ram or somehow reverting my Macbook Pro (2017) back to it's old operating system. Full disclosure, when I updated to OS X Catalina, the software I was using for audio engineering (Pro tools) was unable to launch. I contacted AVID and was advised to upgrade my software. Thinking that upgrading will solve the problem, I upgraded and the software still would not launch. After a runaround from AVID, I will not get a refund for my upgrade, and was in trouble of paying for a monthly subscription i would not be able to use for incoming months. After reaching out to Ted, we bounced a few ideas of how we can resolve my situation. After making a decision of reverting to the previous operating system, Ted efficiently and swiftly got to work. While working on my computer, he was very clear of what could happen if I revert back to a previous operating system. Ted was very upfront, does not want to take advantage of his customers, very very very knowledgeable about Apple (and technology in genral), and GENUINELY (cannot emphasize enough) just want to help those who need help. Tyler did a really good job of restoring and upgrading my Mac. It is an 8 year old computer that was about to see its first day at the city dump. My 2017 Macbook had issues with the display and different companies didn't even run a diagnostic and told me I would need to purchase a new logic board. After speaking with Ted, he ran me through his process of repairing my Macbook and finding out with the issue was correctly. Ted found that I would only need a display screen and worked quickly to purchase and repair my Macbook. Had a drive failure on a 2013 Macbook that resulted in the OS not being able to load. Ted was able to come over and quickly diagnose the drive. He took it to attempt a data recovery and scheduled a time to come by and install a new, more spacious, hard drive in the Macbook. He also was able to determine whether the GPU or Display was damaged on an older Macbook (2008) and was able to find a replacement display. Overall the experience was great and they charge a fair price for the work done. Ted is extremely knowledgable and doesn't try to upsell you at every turn. He let us know what the problem was and what the available options were and the pros and cons of each. My keyboard was very wonky. Some letters would not type, the capitalization key on the right didn't work, while the one on the left only worked on some letters. I took it in, they did a diagnosis and recommended a course of action. The part had to come from the East Coast. About a week later, they got the part, did the repair, and called me when it was ready. I went to pick it up and found that the problem was not fixed. The only difference was that different keys were effected. They took action quickly and made arrangements for another part to be delivered. They order the company to make sure they thoroughly tested the new keyboard before sending it. I certainly would have liked the repair to have gone more quickly, but The Mac Surgeon did their best to make sure I was accommodated and satisfied with the work. They could have seen my project as a pain in the ass, but they didn't. They acted like it was their computer that was messed up.
