We were craving fresh oysters and stone crab and so we stumbled upon this place while reading Yelp reviews and decided to check it out! We walked in and at first we almost didn't stay but decided to have one drink. The place was tiny, nestled in a tiny building right on a canal, with a small bar and maybe 4-5 small tabletop tables and we weren't sure if it was even serving food. We also walked in as a local comedian was performing and of course he made us the butt of his joke. We sat ourselves at a table and the bartender (who was both bartender and server) brought us a couple of menus, confirmed they had food and took our drink order. We noticed the bar had a steady stream of patrons and they all seemed to be locals. My heart skipped a beat when I spied someone eating stone crab at the bar. We ordered a beer and a chelada, a dozen oysters ($1.75 each) and 4 stone crab claws ($3 a claw). Our order was brought out pretty quickly and it was so fresh and delicious. So good that we immediately ordered another round of everything. My hubby is not too big on Stone crab, so I got to gorge on a dozen of those tasty and super fresh claws and at only 3 bucks a claw. The whole platter was only $36, that's a steal compared to pretty much anywhere else. We also took down 2 dozen oysters and my hubby was in heaven! They were succulent and fresh and nice sized. Our server even threw in a few extra claws for me because he thought that what was left at that time of night were small. We definitely appreciated that gesture! Food and service was fabulous and we can see why it's a favorite with the locals. If you find yourself in Islamorada and want to eat some fresh cheap seafood at a place of the beaten path, you have go to check them out! read more

Second visit to mar bar since we've been here, Brandon was just as amazing as Kendra! Gave us another local spot of "what the fish", who will actually bring your food to the bar at mar bar. Oh. My. Goodness. This is a MUST GO. If you are a boater, there is plenty of parking (ours is 34 ft). After a long day we walked in as were staying at the hotel next door. Staff was so friendly, the owner helped us and was incredibly sweet. She makes everything herself and owns the fish market next door too- SO FRESH. The shrimp ceviche was out of this world. We also tried the fish dip and it was 10/10. The frozé with vodka was perfect too. The music, atmosphere, everything. It felt like we rolled in off the water from a long day and mom cooked for us, haha. We aren't big stone crab people but if we were they walk it right over from next door and would have gotten that too. THANK YOU, we will be back!!!! read more

Mar Bar is a little gem. The menu is very limited, but they excel in what they do have. The oysters were delicious. The stone crabs were good as well. I loved the mustard sauce that came with the stone crabs. Fish dip was superb! The best part is it comes in a container to take home. The michelada was SO refreshing! Service was great. We met a nice couple who gave us amazing Key West recommendations, and the bartenders were also very friendly and had good advice for the area. OMG OMG Stone Crab season is upon us and we just passed by to get our first claws of the season and they were phenomenal!!! Super sweet and pulled right out of the shell.... so fresh We also order some blue point oysters that were fresh, briny and yummy! We washed it all down with a few beers (currently check in on Yelp and one is on the house) and a delicious Sangria. I would totally recommend this super hidden little gem. Only draw back is that their menu is limited to just a few items as the pictures shows. read more

Drove to the keys with my family for Father's day and we had a great time! We found this GEM in TAVENIER called The Mar Bar. I normally don't take the time to leave reviews but this place was so welcoming and the staff was so nice that I just have to let people know that its worth taking the drive for special occasions! The food was extremely fresh, best crab claws that we have ever had. Seafood dishes and ceviche were all delicious. Our dad really enjoyed himself. He can't wait for us to bring him again.
