I have been a Maui Cookie Lady fan for ten years! Up until November 2019, we visited Maui on an almost yearly basis. (Yes, we are way overdue to get back on island!) I had heard about the Maui Cookie Lady cookies in early 2016 and knew that I had to get one the next time we visited. At that time, the cookies were only available at various local markets that would get a delivery once or twice a week. There was no dedicated retail store then. In November 2016, it finally happened! I was able to find a small supply of Mitzi's, the Maui Cookie Lady's, cookies at the Market Maui (since closed). My first cookie was Da Half Baked - a chocolate chip cookie stuffed with Reese's, Snickers, AND Oreo! OMG...only a super creative cookie chef extraordinaire could have imagined such a delight! I knew that I would be a fan forever!! On every subsequent trip, I sought out the amazing cookies. It wasnʻt always easy to find them, as the batches were small and offered in very limited locations. I would be on a mission and never gave up until I found them. My friends and co-workers were always so excited when I brought them back a "world-famous Maui Cookie Lady" cookie when I returned from Maui. In late 2020, the year after my last trip to Maui, the Maui Cookie Lady opened up a retail shop in Makawao. I haven't been able to stop by in person yet, but I will be going the next time I visit. I tell all my friends about the cookies, and several have been able to stop by the cute shop. When I am lucky, a friend will bring back some ono cookies for me. The Maui Cookie Lady cookies are not like most of the cookies you are used to eating. The first thing that you will notice is that they are really big!! I like to say that they are "gargantuan"! The second thing is that they are made with creative ingredients that may be familiar to you, or they may be new. Many of the varieties incorporate local ingredients lilikoi, Kona coffee, and macadamia nuts. The combination of flavors will excite any cookie loverʻs taste buds. Donʻt worry if you are not local to stop by the shop in person. You can order cookies online, individually or via the monthly subscription box. If you are visiting and want to take a few home with you, know that they can be frozen and stay great when you want to enjoy them. They do not contain preservatives, which I think is a big plus. In addition to creating great cookies, Mitzi is a big supporter of the community. She helps with various fundraising efforts to help those in Maui. As a former teacher, she is connected to educators in Hawaiʻi and their special needs. Once I get back to Maui, I will visit the store and update this review. I can't wait! read more

Had to stop by the cutest store to pick up some treats for a friends kids. They open at 10 am now but it fit our schedule perfectly today. Saw that they now offer a variety bag of 4 cookies! So perfect for those who wanna try more than one cookie! They are of course a smaller size but just to be able to sample a few different flavors is great! Then you can buy the larger one if you really find one you absolutely love. Service is always great here, and working in this cute space must really make you feel warm and fuzzy (as a customer, I always get that feeling!). A sweet Maui Must- stop! The Maui Cookie Lady shop is such a gem! The moment you walk in, it smells amazing -- warm, cozy, and a little earthy. The shop itself is small, but it has such a welcoming vibe that makes you instantly feel at home. The cookies are so delicious and come in pretty generous portions. My favorite was the White Chocolate Macadamia -- soft, rich, and perfectly balanced in flavor. They also have lots of other fun and creative flavors worth trying! The lady who helped us was incredibly sweet and knowledgeable. She really knew the shop and everything they offered -- from cookies to jams, small home essentials, drinks, and even pet goodies. My husband really wanted to visit The Maui Cookie Lady. I'm not much of a sweets girl, so I was just along for the ride. I'd seen photos of the cookies and figured they would be hard cookies. Well. I was wrong! First, let's just skip to the cookies. We purchased four cookies, but when we got back to our hotel room, we only had the stomach bandwidth to try one. I said I only wanted a taste. I tried the peanut butter cookie and was blown away. Soft! Decadent! Delicious! I ate more than just a little taste. We are saving the others for when we get back home, but I expect them to be nothing less than amazing. I love the Maui Cookie Lady's story, and as an educator, I appreciate the fact that she, too, was a teacher. The store is a cute little shop decorated like a cottage in the forest. I believe it is Bavarian themed. There are cookies, Rice Krispy treats, ice cream, lollipops, and other trinkets to purchase. This is such a gem of a place. Outside all biz, but inside is a little keebler magical forest hole. Voted all these awards below, its no wonder this place has people stopping by and shipping cookies to them once they've visited. We got a little bit of everything. This is such a a delight of a cookie shop. You walk in and it looks like stepping into a Hobbit hole. Or something. The cookies are vast in flavors and don't be alarmed by the $10 price tag for a cookie. We got the half baked which includes an entire Oreo, Reese's peanut butter cup, Snickers. It's several desserts in one and I'd say there were 4 portions in the cookie. We were told this is one of the larger cookies they pretty as they have several smaller cheaper ones and fudge and other candy options. Great place to get gifts for people. This is a gimmick. While the shop is cute and full of local products, the cookies taste how the shop smells. At first it's pleasantly sweet then quickly becomes overwhelmingly artificial. I went with the Anuhea upcountry cookie, intrigued at how lavender, lemon, white chocolate, and macadamia flavors could intertwine in a cookie. This shop was recommended by our Haleakala bike tour guide (the Remy show). It's really adorable inside with nicely packaged decadent cookies and gifts. The dark chocolate toffee was excellent and we tried several of the massive cookies. The ingredients are fairly clean and they are pretty good. Best cut in fourths and enjoyed with coffee perhaps as they are pretty sweet. Wish I had gotten more of the mac nut wafer candies that we sampled!!! read more

Being in the shop reminded me of being in a little elve's house. It was so darn cute and the cookies were packaged stored in little boxes where you can just pick out what you would like. When one of the redeeming qualities cited for visiting a speciality shop on Maui is "celebrities go there", you know it's a tourist trap. Sadly despite humble beginnings, The Maui Cookie Lady store is just that. It's the kind of place you visit once, but not twice. Cookies are average in flavour; their claim to fame is that they are huge and stuffed. They are just not that good, certainly not $8 good. My husband said they tasted similar to "Cookies by George" in Canada. Just a cookie, nothing special, tastes factory made. We tried the lilikoi white chocolate macadamia, which was so sweet it was nearly inedible. It still had grains of sugar in it, so maybe not that well mixed also. The other cookie was Da Half Baked, which apparently is the favourite of Dwayne Johnson "The Rock". Well, he's a celebrity actor, not a chef or a food critic. It was OK, had an oreo cookie in the middle, different but again too sweet and just kind of average. I also tried the brownies - terrible dry texture, pretty much worth eating the top and throwing the rest out. Supposedly they are made fresh for Friday and Saturday only, but it tasted stale and old. Too bad Makawao seems to be turning in to a new Paia. I hope it won't lose it's Maui character in the same way by becoming a mecca of kitch, overpriced art and clothing, and silly specialty stores. The Disney tunes playing in the background made this store a little creepy, maybe they're trying to target kids, and tourists who treat Maui like Disneyland. Just weird. Stick to the malasadas down the street at Komoda's bakery. read more

GIANT COOKIES, if you like huge cookies easily the size of 3 normal ones this is the place for you. It reminded me a lot of Levain's in NY but with much more locally inspired and original creations and the best thing is each cookie is individually wrapped so you can bring them home, you can also order via mail order if you really want to try it remotely. I don't know why but walking into the doors felt like entering some magic Middle Earth cookie shop and it's a feeling I've never felt before. Mitzi Toro began baking delicious cookies in 2012 as a fundraiser. After raising funds for the nurses who took take of her father, Mitzi was encouraged to transform her cookie fundraiser into a business by her regular customers who came to immensely love her delicious delectable. White Chunk Mac: Maui Grown Roasted Macadamia, Bavarian Cream, and Premium White Chocolate Chunks. Delicious with wonderful grains of seal salt and raw sugar in every bite for a nice small crunch. Not overly sweet and I would share this since its HUGE. Choc Choc Chip: We toasted this a little and it was excellent, the kids wanted more even though even split into 1/4s it was still a lot of cookies, its made from 3 different kinds of chocolate. read more

I visit often when I am in Makawao town for a sweet treat and I am often not greeted with warmth once I walk in which contrasts the fairly land atmosphere inside. The cookies are often underbaked in the middle and lack texture as they are baked very thick. Next to their signature cookies are local goods spanning skincare, jams, candles, etc. We came away with cookies, ice cream bars, and syrups for our latte machine at home. SO good. Their fresh goods have a masterful balance on flavors-- sweet with a hint of savory to make your tastebuds melt. The last time I felt this strongly about cookies is probly Gideon's Bakehouse in Orlando :') I'm just in love with the eclectic, dreamy decor that absolutely engulfs the entire shop.
