I've never had the melt before until this week. I tried their original chicken melt & my boyfriend had the original melt burger. We both agreed the original chicken melt was our favorite between the two it had a nice balance between the chicken breast & the cheese! The burger was delicious, but it was a little on the heavy side. I wasn't able to eat more than half of it, but i would enjoy it if I'm craving a burger. I recommend getting the garlic & Parmesan fries there's so much garlic on it I love it!!! The staffs here were all so friendly and following all CDC recommendations! So I like grilled cheese just as much as the next person and I ordered the classic melt (artisan white bread with cheddar) and wasn't that impressed. I thought the bread was a little chewy. But the field greens salad and lemonade was amazing next time I would just get that. I'm giving it 3.5 stars since I like the salad and lemonade but don't like the star menu item all that much. They make everything fresh for you there which made the salad really good. I was really excited about grilled cheese but instead was pleasantly surprised by the salad and lemonade. read more

I used to come to The Melt every time I visited Irvine Spectrum. I always got the Italian job for $4.95 and loved it. There was enough cheese to make it a great grilled cheese and if you wanted an extra kick, the free tomatoes and jalapeños were always available to add. However, ever since they redid their menu and underwent renovations to their store, I feel like my visits have been much less satisfying. I feel like they're trying too hard to enter too many food categories to target a bigger variety of people. That's cool, but people come to "The Melt" for the perfect grilled cheese, not a hamburger or a piece of chicken. I tried again last week and got the "Mac Daddy" while my boyfriend got the "Italian Job". I would have ordered the Italian Job as usual but like I mentioned, they made the grilled cheese so much more complex and less of a true grilled cheese sandwich by adding mushrooms inside. So instead, I decided to try something new and opted for the "Mac Daddy". Boy, was I disappointed. The mac & cheese was hard and not cooked soft enough to be put into a sandwich. It was flavorless and didn't have enough cheesy flavor to make it feel like a grilled cheese. I thought the bacon would be a nice touch but it just added another confusing dynamic to an already hectic sandwich. As much as I wanted to love it, I was unable to finish and threw almost half of it away. While their grilled cheeses are still unique and tasty, I feel like the prices are getting a little steep for a grilled cheese because they keep adding things like mushrooms that don't even traditionally exist in a grilled cheese. I'll be back, but I'm not entirely happy with the changes they've made to their menu. read more

Not sure why the reviews are sub-par. I thought it was solid. Tried the meltburger. Angus/Wagyu beef 1/3 pound patty, was good but didn't seem extra special considering it is "wagyu." It's ok because the price is not bad. The naked fries were also good. Not spectacular but good. The kids mac n cheese was super cheesy. I liked it. The place is definitely all about the cheese. Will have to come back and try the various grilled cheese sandwiches. read more

The Melt...it's kind of how my wallet felt after I left here! The melt is pretty simple. There really isn't much that needs to be explained. It's grilled cheese, chicken, burgers, and Mac and cheese. After browsing the menu, I started to order. For most of us, I got the combo. Most of the sandwiches were $5.99 - $7.99. There was a sign that said if you got a combo, you would save! I was in since you get to pick your sides! I ordered the grilled cheese for my daughter that was on their menu without realizing there was a small kids menu by the register. I quickly changed my order for her to the kids grilled cheese. It comes with apples or you can pay $1 extra for fries. I ordered the spicy mission chicken and made it a combo. For the side I got the bacon Florentine Mac and cheese and a soda. The chicken was very thin and there was basically nothing spicy about the sandwich. The "fresh spinach" was barely there and I couldn't taste it. The crispy onions were also almost flavorless. Finally, I know this sounds strange, but there was WAY too much cheese! If you don't eat it right away, it becomes a thick gooey mess! My wife got the egg-in-a-hole. I made hers a combo also and got her the bacon and cheese fries and a soda. The fries were good. They were exactly what you would expect. Nothing more, nothing less. The sandwich only had egg in half of it. I don't even know how this happened. My son (who is 7) had the steak and cheese and I made his a combo also. He had the bacon and cheese fries and a milk shake. All of his food looked fine and he enjoyed it. After ordering, the bill was $52! For a walk up place, I was shocked! I paid it, and the lady handed us two cups. I asked where the cup for the kids meal was, and she informed me that it doesn't come with a drink. Say what?!?! I've never been to a place like this where the kids meal doesn't come with anything! It would be nice to be told beforehand since that's the norm. I ended up giving her my drink and had water. Then, we sat down and I looked at the bill. Turns out the "savings" for a combo is $0.35. Yay! Overall, I felt like their pricing is deceptive. Not telling you the kids meal doesn't come with a drink and getting a combo for "savings" really isn't a value. The food was fine, but I won't go back. That's too much considering the quality. There are so many good places nearby that are less expensive and so much better! read more

I got the spicy mission melt burger and it was very delicious even after waiting for my family member to get home from working there. The spice wasnt too spicy but just enough. The cheese was melted perfectly and the avocados added a nice refreshing touch to the burger. One of the jalapeños was cut a big to wide so I had to take it out but I just saved it for the last bite of my burger and they combined perfectly. I highly recommend eating here over any other fast food restaurant for-sure. read more

I'm a bit confused and don't know what to rate this place with. I want to give it five stars badly....but I can't. Maybe if I visit again and I'm more pleased, I'll bump it up to four? I'm feeling more like 2.5-3 stars with this one. My hubby got a plane grilled cheese, he wasn't thrilled. We've had plane grilled cheese elsewhere and were amazed. I ordered the mushroom with grilled cheese. Although I should've been very satisfied with this sandwich, for me...it lacked seasoning. By seasoning, I mean salt. My sandwich was very bland. Customer service was nice, but needed some work. A young staff member came by to refill my water, but grabbed the cup from the lip of the cup. Yuck. Let's just say, I didn't drink my water after that. I think I would still return. I would probably try another sandwich and order the tomato soup to go a long with it. read more
