"This is one of the best burgers I've had." - my mom, who doesn't usually like many things, on an original melt burger (sans melt sauce, add ketchup and mustard) I was craving a BBQ bacon cheddar burger and found The Melt and their rendition at the perfect time. My dad ordered an original melt burger with bacon and said it was just what he wanted as well. For lunch, along with two orders of fries (one plain, one garlic Parmesan), all this cost under $50. There was no wait when we walked in, we were able to find street parking we could still see from our table inside, the service was very attentive, and the food was made pretty quickly. The restaurant itself is medium-sized, clean, and in a new building, featuring indoor and outdoor seating. There is a restroom (which requires a code) in the hall through the door behind the register. read more

This location, at least, is a mess and not worth patronizing, from the careless incompetent, and indifferent staff that will screw-up your order without a care, to the rude and exasperating "it's the customer's fault-like attitude" that you must endure while waiting for the purposely-long 20' correction (while your already Not hot and crispy fries were quickly loosing ground) , in order to actually obtain what your receipt says that you paid for. After the correct melt-burger was received I was surprised that I was now eating the greasiest and most sloppily thrown together burger that I had ever bitten into, and, while I do not mind a normally messy burger, it was a real effort to maintain the constant stream of napkins needed to try and, unsuccessfully, keep up with the grease continually emanating from between the buns,...most unpleasant amd rating 1 star. I also found the dining environment to be less than desirable since keeping the area clean was obviously not a priority. And if you would like a better burger eating experience nearby I would definitely recommend True Burger which is just down the street on Grand Ave, not 5 stars, but pretty good. read more

Wanted something quick and close to the hotel I was staying at. This popped up on my Google search. 2 items appeared to be good, so I went with it. Ordered the tomato soup and the steak mac & cheese. Both were good and hit the spot. The soup is exactly 8oz, so yes it is a cup of soup. Great creamy flavor, and it stayed hot through the entire consumption. The mac & cheese was a perfect size, too. Big noodles, plenty of steak, in my opinion, topped with fajita veggies. And the amount of cheese sauce was perfect. All flavors blended well together. The entire meal was $17.40. Stopped by for the recent Yelp Elite event and couldn't wait to sink my teeth into a good meltburger. I grew up with a melt store near my house so coming here gave me so many nostalgic memories. I got the BBQ Bacon MeltBurger as well as the Cheddar Bacon Ranch fries. The BBQ Bacon MeltBurger was really really solid. The bacon smokiness combined with the bbq sauce was *chefs kiss*. The patty was very juicy and when the fatty juices mixed with the melted cheese, it brought everything together. The fries were on the heavy side, and honestly just had a lot going on. I would recommend sharing with a friend because it's a meal in itself. Had a great time and will definitely stop by if I'm ever in Oakland again :) read more

We stopped by here past midnight and it ended up being one of the best burgers that I've had in the Bay so far. We tried the Swiss & Shroom MeltBurger, which had a medium rare patty (my favorite!). It wasn't too greasy like some burger joints and there was a nice amount of mushrooms / spinach. It reminded me of a Shake Shack burger, which has always been my favorite burger chain. What I don't understand is why I'm charged an additional $2.50 for the lettuce wrap when I'm not even getting the bun. If you're taking something away, what's the justification for adding an extra charge? I could understand a modest upcharge, but $2.50 for a few leaves of lettuce is hard to justify. I can buy an entire head of lettuce for about that price. What bothered me even more was that no one mentioned the charge when I placed my order. It wasn't until I picked up my food and saw the receipt that I realized I had been charged extra. Customers deserve to know about additional charges before they order, not after the fact. When I politely asked why there was a $2.50 charge, the employee simply looked at me and said, "I don't know." There was no explanation, no offer to ask someone else, and no attempt to address a perfectly reasonable question. That level of customer service was just as disappointing as the surprise charge. The burger was excellent, but this experience left a bad taste in my mouth. At this point, I don't plan on coming back. Or maybe I'll just bring my own lettuce next time. Better yet, just give me the burger without the bun, and I'll wrap the damn thing myself when I get home.

Since moving to the neighborhood earlier this year, I have walked past TrueBurger quite a few times on my way to/from the 19th Street BART Station, and I was excited to give it a try. I was initially thinking I would get a burger, but my friend had to postpone getting together until the mid-afternoon, so I ate lunch at home and opted for a milkshake when we met a couple hours later. I had seen a special coconut shake on the menu on the TrueBurger website; I'm a big fan of most things coconut, and especially ice cream. I was eager to taste the shake...and my excitement quickly turned to disappointment when I realized it was just a vanilla shake with shredded coconut. Why is TrueBurger trying to pass this off as a coconut shake? It's far less novel, but it's perfectly acceptable to only offer vanilla and chocolate shakes. The mix-ins actually put them one step ahead of much of the competition, but misleading customers is never okay. To add insult to injury, I have tried reaching out to TrueBurger via email, and management is incredibly unresponsive. They could have easily fixed this by offering me a refund or asking me to come back in for a shake on the house. Do better, TrueBurger.

I come for their brisket and my friend loves ribs so we went ahead and ordered combo plates to share. Mine was the brisket with a side of collard greens, she had the pork ribs, a hotlink with a side of Mac-n-cheese, & cornbread. For drinks we had lemonade and an Arnold Palmer. I'm not sure what has happened over the last few months but the quality of the food, the service and the expectation to pay and tip up front were very disappointing. The greens, Mac cheese, brisket and ribs were cold. The hotlink wasn't BBQ'ed it was pan fried. Everything tasted like warmed up leftovers and we will not return. For 2 of us to eat it came to $100 and we were not satisfied. The dining room is an attractive space, it was completely empty. The staff was unclear about what we ordered, had to be told to bring our drinks, bartender is also working as server and apologized for his uncertainty.
