I was 1st introduced to The Melt because of a Yelp elite event. And I couldn't wait to come back! The food is incredibly delicious! It tasted just as perfect the 2nd time around. I ordered the Spicy Mission Melt Burger, a strawberry lemonade, mac n cheese and the garlic parmesan fries. The burgers are made medium well unless specified. I got the single patty and could not finish it. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. The garlic fries are so yummy. This may be my favorite thing on the menu. Although the serving size of fries are just enough, I do wish it wish they had a larger option. I was much too full to eat the mac so I ended up packing it to go. After passing by it a few times and smelling the grill from outside, we decided to go here for a drunchies meal and it did not disappoint at all. - Garlic Parmesan Fries: I wish they gave more! You can really taste the garlic, unlike many other garlic parmesan fries out there. - Meltburger: Absolutely delicious! The meat was so juicy and flavorful. I regret removing the jalapenos & pickles (just not a fan of them), but I think this would've been an exception. - Three Cheese Classic: Brought to us right after it was made, so the cheese has not hardened, a perfect drunchie sandwich Food is a superb 5-star, however, after seeing how the place is cleanly handled, I give this place a 4-star. We were in Oakland for a Roots game and then a Euro Football watch party and finished at the bar at about 11:30pm. We had spotted The Melt as we drove in and really wanted to stop, luckily they didn't close until midnight!! We got there between 11:35-11:40 and were worried they'd be wrapping things up for the night and not too happy to see us but were greeted by the incredibly friendly and helpful Jason and Nathaniel. Since it was our first time we had some questions and I had learned if you get the app on your phone you can get a free Milkshake with your first order and I was all over that. Jason rang us up for a Melt Burger, Three Cheese Classic grilled cheese, tomato soup and my Double Chocolate shake that I upgraded to a Malt. Nathaniel had our order up in no time and we were on our way for our road-trip back to Sacramento. I realized really quickly that while packed with flavor, these menu items are tough to eat in the car. Definitely more of a take home or enjoy at the restaurant kind of meal. The burger is greasy in a flavorful, perfect for a hangover cure or late night bite kind of way and packed with flavor. The grilled cheese is super melty, crispy and buttery. Did I wipe my hands off on my jeans during the drive?... only my washing machine will ever know. The malt was my favorite part of our late night stop, it was so good. However, I would probably pass on the tomato soup next time, I think I wanted it to be a bit tangier with tomato acidity, it was fine and great for dipping but everything else outshined it. My flight arrived into the Oakland area very late and I was super hungry. My daughter indicated that there weren't many places open that late at night but remembered this new spot. It was pretty hopping when we arrived so I took that as a sign that this would be a good place. We made our order with the cashier and I got the mushroom onion burger with sweet potato fries it took about 15 to 20 minutes for our order to come out because they are made to order so just be prepared for the wait It was well worth the wait. The onion and mushroom burger had such incredible flavor, the meat was perfectly cooked and juicy, the bun was flavorful and fluffy and the fries were tasty and crispy. I got the chicken sandwich w/ bbq sauce on the side. Amazing! However, the way they pack up pickup orders was horrible. Whatever liquid they had spilled all in my bag. I didn't even order anything wet. It was so much everywhere that it got all in the interior of my car, the middle console, and my pants. Not 1 napkin provided. I was fortunate enough to attend the soft opening for The Melt. I've heard of the Melt before, but never had the opportunity to go to any of their locations. So it was nice to find out they were opening their first Oakland location. The outside looks fantastic, the inside looks good. It very much has The Town feel to it. I like that they have the clear windows into the kitchen so you can see the process of everyone making the meals. Also, there's a progress screen on the tv's to let you know if your meal is being worked on and approximate how long it'll take to be done. I've never seen that before, so that was cool. I got the double swiss mushroom burger, and it was great! The buns were buttered, the meat patties were hearty, it's extremely big, I was definitely full. If you order it, you will definitely feel like you got your money's worth! The cheddar bacon ranch fries were good too, except that the fries themselves tasted a little stale? It's hard to put a finger on it, but it tasted good, but once you but through the fries, something about it... just didn't taste like other french fries. I'm assume it might have been older potatoes or something. Whatever the case, the food was still great all around. Again, I was there during their soft opening. It took some time to get my burger and fries. But that's to be expect while they train new employees and work out all the kinks. I was impressed by how hard everyone was working, all the employees were in unison, management was there overseeing each station and made sure everyone was performing to Melt standards, employees were checking on customers constantly, it was a marvel to see. I have visited Melt twice since they opened. Each time, the food has been good - very good and very affordable. The design of the store is well integrated with the exterior area with high ceilings and wide entrance doors. There are at least seven restaurants in a 1 mile radius that specialize in burgers. Melt's basic burger start at $8 and so do Trueburger, but Melt's menu has a lot more varieties of burgers than Trueburger. Melt's grilled cheese and mac & cheese are also really good. The milkshake was spot on. They are still working on their service since they opened. Personally, I think they have too many options for notification of your order. You can choose to be notified via 1) phone, 2) a handheld notification device or buzzer, or 3) your order number and a very loud PA system where a staff member broadcasts your number to the entire street outside. Too many options caused delays and confusion among customers. Also, you can't pay yet with Apple Pay and you have to use a physical credit card - which is weird for a restaurant that opened 2+ years after Covid. Our first visit went smoothly, but our second visit was a disaster. We were told to wait for at least 10 minutes before they could even take another order because they were overwhelmed in the back. They were clearly struggling with being understaffed. It took them another 15-20 minutes to bring things under control. To the credit of the cooks, the food was still very good. Melt had very nice outdoor seating. Two wheelchair and walker accessible concrete ramps were installed before this location opened, but sometimes the ramps are blocked with delivery boxes. My friend had to lift her walker to get past several boxes. Once they smooth out their operations, I think they will be a solid player in the area. read more
