I came here for lunch during a weekday, as I was craving a burger. Street or lot parking, so plan ahead. The place seems fairly new and was clean. It wasn't too busy yet, and you order at the counter and they give you a little vibrating alarm that goes off when your order is ready. We ordered a patty melt, original burger, and the cheddar bacon ranch fries. The patty melt was just ok, it seemed a bit small and kind of dry. Certainly wasn't the best i had, but not the worst. I definitely enjoyed the original burger more, and it had a good amount of cheese, and pretty good flavor. We also enjoyed the cheddar bacon ranch fries, I would highly reccomend them. The bacon was good, and they used real bacon, not bacon bits. They add lots of gooey cheese as well. There's a Ghirardelli right next door to the restaurant if you also want some ice cream for dessert. I'd definitely check this place out for lunch if your nearby. read more

I'm giving The Melt 2 stars because the customer service was genuinely great. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and did their job well. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the hype. The burger had almost no flavor and seemed to rely on a ridiculous amount of cheese instead of seasoning. The mac and cheese was even more disappointing--it tasted watered down with breadcrumbs on top, but there wasn't much flavor at all. To make matters worse, the prices are pretty high for the quality of the food. I don't mind paying for a good meal, but this definitely wasn't worth what I spent. The service was the highlight of my visit, but the food alone isn't enough to make me want to come back. read more

I was initially going to give a 2 star review, but after spending 2 days hunched over in pain with frequent diarrhea and discomfort, I'd give zero stars if I could. Thanks to eating lunch here, I spent the majority of New Years Eve running in and out the bathroom. For starters, the service was dismal and the people behind the counter seemed annoyed that I wanted to order. When I tried the food, I felt like the burger desperately needed more sauce.... and cheese. You would think with a name like "The Melt" this place would have a glorious cheese pull when biting into the food. Welp, no such luck. Burger was just a hunk of meat lacking anything resembling delicious eats with a $43 price tag for 2 burgers. I will never eat here again. Ordered delivery from The Melt and unfortunately the experience didn't match the price point. We spent over $90 on the order, which included multiple burgers and fries. The burgers arrived noticeably soggy, likely from being boxed while still hot with no ventilation. The buns were soft to the point of falling apart, which really took away from the overall quality--especially for burgers that are meant to highlight melted cheese and texture. On top of that, the order arrived with no utensils, napkins, or condiments included at all. For a delivery order of this size and cost, those basics should be standard, or at least confirmed. Flavor-wise, the burgers were decent, but presentation and execution matter--particularly when charging premium prices. This might be better enjoyed dine-in, where freshness and proper setup are more controlled, but as a delivery experience, it was disappointing for what we paid. read more

Wooow-- I did not expect to love their burgers so much! Perfect amount of cheese, great cook on it and flavor, the bread delicious. My hard-to-please friend gave it a 9/10, which I've never heard of from him lol. I like the space and layout as well, there's an upper dining area that was cool to hangout and eat at. I ordered the kids meal Mac n cheese with a side of apples and I was quite disappointed. The cheese sauce was liquidy and the noodles were a bit tough, like it hadn't been cooked enough. My order was ready before I even had time to fill my water cup, so I know they could have cooked it for longer. I am not a professional chef, but I feel it is a bit difficult to mess up Mac n cheese. And don't even get me started on the apple slices. They gave a measly four slices, which I hardly consider a side. Not to mention the slices had rough parts in it which I'm assuming had part of the core in it. On top of that, you have to trash and stack your own tray. Was not a pleasurable experience. Despite Gaslamp being busy with clubs and bars at night, it's hard to find a place to actually grab food without paying a cover fee. The menu includes different burgers, chicken burgers, melts, shakes, and fries. The food was tasty and good. They have a few tables outside by the entrance which is fun to people watch. They also have tables inside. Overall, a decent and quick food option. I took off a star because it's a little pricey for a burger and fries ($19). read more

Came here late at night since they're open till 3am!! Very convenient. It was easy to order. On the left there's large tablets to order on if you don't want to order to the cashier. We got the Mac Daddy, the melt, Mac and cheese, Caesar salad, and their chicken sandwich. While we were waiting, we looked around and it's a cute little fast food. Downstairs there's tables, the restroom, and drink station. Upstairs is another area for seating. We waited less than ten minutes for our food and wow if you're a cheese lover, you'll love it here . Our family and I were taking a weekend trip the weekend of July 20 and since it was our last night in time, we decided to order for delivery. The restaurant was down the street from our hotel and we ordered two of the milk burgers, one Swiss burger, and one barbecue bacon burger. The burgers were very good. We also ordered four orders of garlic Parmesan fries. They were crispy, but the garlic was very overpowering and two garlic, which means we could not enjoy the fries like we wanted to overall our experience was decent. The price of it was very pricey was over $20 a person. Our order was made quick and the delivery driver did deliver our food promptly. If we ever order here again we would not suggest the garlic Parmesan fries if you really like garlic flavor than you would like these fries. read more

I asked the cashier for recommendations, and she pointed out their top three: the Original Melt Burger, the BBQ Bacon Grilled Chicken, and a third popular pick. I went with the Original Melt Burger (an Angus/Wagyu blend) and it was cooked to perfection--pink, juicy, and loaded with melted cheddar and grilled onions. I usually never finish a burger this size, but I polished this one off! ​Pro Tip: Do NOT skip the Parmesan Garlic Fries. You can actually taste the fresh garlic in every single bite. ​The space is clean with plenty of seating both upstairs and downstairs. They have kiosks for quick ordering, but the service at the register was great too. I'm already planning my next trip back to try the "Mac Daddy." This is an update with some new things that I tried at the melt at a different location, but I still had a great positive experience. The photos did the food no justice. I couldn't even wait too. Take a photo of my tomato soup! I was lost in the soup and realized I needed to take a photo before it was all gone! You can take the gluten-free bread from any of your other sandwiches and burgers and dip it in this soup! It's total comfort food, but didn't put me to sleep I got this service at the Oakland location but just wanted to drop in some other menu items that they have. I think I will get a tomato soup with every burger or sandwich going forward! The kitchen stuff was positive and prompt in getting the orders ready at both locations. While the burger and fries were 'meh, I'd like to address the staff first. They were awesome! There was a super riendly person up front to help me figure out if their buns had egg (I'm not gluten-free, but egg-free). They've got beepers beside the monitors, you pick it up and register the beeper number and you're on you way. The place was clean and plenty of seating, some outdoors and plenty indoors (it's bigger on the inside then it looks from the outside because there's also seating upstairs).You probably should know that this was the 4th place we went looking for a burger with an egg-free bun. (I realize that they'll all serve it in a lettuce wrap, but to me the perfect burger requires a bun because the juices blend into the bun and it really completes that burger flavor.) That's likely important to know, because it may have something to do with my level of disappointment in the food. The burger - it was super messy to the point where the bun was slipping off, which I generally relate to a juicy tasty burger. I don't know how, but the burger was dry and not juicy at all. I guess the slippery messy part comes from their cheese (I didn't even get their special sauce because it also contains egg).The fries - also not great. I don't know if it was in their prep area or in the temperature of the frying oil, or maybe that they pour fries out of the (presumably frozen) bag and let it sit until they use it.I am usually a 'try it a second time' person, but I will admit that I wasn't feeling like I wanted to when I left. This was my second time here and I love it! I always get a different burger every time. Just know they're all good. You can self order or speak to an employee to order. It's pretty spacious inside so multiple seating is available. I took away a star because we bought regular lemonade and strawberry lemonade. They both tasted like water.
