Then the manager came over and gave us a discount for my brother-in-law being in the military, which I always find very respectable of a place to do!!! Anyways they got the big night out, and I ordered my own $20 entree (which was clearly enough for me - after I of course shared the cheese fondue with them as a starter). I LOVED that you cooked your own stuff. The only thing that is bad is if you end up not liking the fondue, you're stuck with it! I dont think this happens often, but be sure to know what kind of base product you would like... at first I thought it was weird we would basically be cooking our own stuff, but it definitely but an awesome twist on things (and when i ended up going with my own man back in Reno NV, it was very romantic!). At the end of the meal, you get their dessert which was FABULOUS. pieces of bananas, strawberries, rice krispy treats, marshmallows, brownie, etc. dipped into whatever chocolate fondue you would like... The service was wonderful, the food was delicious, the place was clean and we had it all to ourselves at 1pm on a Thursday. The lunch specials are a really good deal and although a bit smaller you will definitely be full if you do cheese, beef and a desert. They had snickers desert chocolate with nuts and caramel in special when we went. We got the quattro fromaggio cheese which was great. It got nice and stringy at the end when the mozzarella was finally melting and the beef broth with the wine for our entree. The broth itself was so tasty you didn't need any of the sauces. We got the signature platter and it was great and we could sub anything we wanted too. The chocolate was great that we went back twice for it and got the same waiter. You will not leave this place hungry, that's for sure! My fiancée and I decided to have a date night while away on vacation. We stumbled across this place and we were extremely satisfied. First, the staff is very friendly with the customers and each other. Our waitress, Kate, was very sweet and attentive. Next, the food was incredible. We decided to do the four course meal and we were so stuffed. Below you'll see the entree portions are small but don't be fooled, believe me. You start with choosing a cheese fondue which is served with different types of bread. Next is your choice of salad. Afterwards you choose your meats which you cook yourself in the pot on the table. For the meats you can either create your own dish or chose one of the pre-selected options. We created our own and I'm happy we did. I chose the chicken potstickers, duck, and teriyaki steak. The waitress then comes over and tells you how long you cook each meat for. It was very simple and quick. With your entrees you also receive different types of sauces. Last but not least you get to choose which type of chocolate fondue you would like for your dessert. All in all the experience was great. It is pricey but definitely worth it! read more

The Melting Pot has been there for all of our major life experiences. Meeting the friends who just learned they were pregnant with their first child, celebrating our engagement, my husbands birthday and learning if drop your meat you pay for the wine ( That may have just been my in-laws):-) We introduced our kids to fondue at an early age as well. Hit all of their early milestone ( first lost tooth, turning 13, 18, 21 you name it) and our 20th wedding anniversary. We even had a divorce party for a dear friend. The melting pot has always been there when we wanted to be festive, take a nice long time to talk, socialize and eat amazing mushroom caps. We have seen the change in oil only to healthier way to cook ( if you choose) as well as additional types of cheese fondue. I want to start by saying that the 1 star I am giving is not related to the food. The food was very good and more like 4 stars. It was my personal experience and the service that I was unhappy with. My family (7 of us) went for dessert only. The waitress brought over refills of ice water and seltzer and while standing next to me lost her balance of the tray. I have 4 kids. I totally get accidents happen. I was soaked. Top to bottom. Her and the host offered me a few towels, switched out my chair, said a couple quiet sorry's ( I get she was mortified) in which I replied thank you, it was fine. and we went on with finishing dessert. When the bill came, I was surprised to see there was NOTHING taken off the bill. Not even the seltzer's that I was wearing. It actually left me speechless and I ended up leaving the restaurant before saying something that probably would have embarressed everyone while my husband paid the bill. Had they taken something off the bill, the waitress would have been tipped on the original bill and we would have left it at that and maybe would have even returned to try again and certainly would recommend it to others. Because of this, I can not recommend it for the sole reason that the customer service is horrible. read more

We were prepared for the wait, but our server turned on the burners and didn't return for another 20 min, so we sat there fanning smoke out of our faces for an unreasonable amount of time. Our waiter kept forgetting to bring things we requested to our table (example...another wait staff accidentally refilled Sprite with water and we asked for a replacement Sprite that never came). My husband and I always enjoy coming to a Melting Pot, and the one in Myrtle Beach is always fantastic. We came in late August during our vacation where my husband proposed ten years ago. We were seated in the same table we were given during our last Myrtle Beach vacation two years ago and joked that they left our table open for us. Our waiter Shane was amazing. We ordered the four course meal and both wine flights, one for me and one for my husband. I personally think the cheaper one was better, esp. since they didn't try and pair a Merlot with the chocolate course. The food was good, but the new cheese fondue they have with the pesto wasn't as good as some of the original options that seem to have been taken off the menu. What happened to the Wisconsin Trio? I've had all the cheese fondues, and that one was my favorite. Oh, well... Overall, a great experience as always. Come hungry because you'll be filled to capacity with food. :-) read more

The Melting Pot is close to my heart as it holds many memories of girls nights, family celebrations, date nights, and get-togethers with friends. The Myrtle Beach location fulfilled my craving for a great meal. Fondue is one of those meals that allows for intimacy with whomever you're dining with. It's the perfect place for a romantic meal, or just dessert. My mom, sister, and I went all out and got the four course dining option. We chose the Classic Alpine cheese fondue (Gruyere, white wine, nutmeg, garlic and fresh lemon juice). The cheese course comes with apples, bread, and mixed raw vegetables. Every bit of it pairs well with the Gruyere cheese. We also got a side salad, which doesn't exactly steal the show, but is quite good to cleanse the palate. For the main course we ordered the classic which comes with Certified Angus Beef® sirloin, Memphis-style dry rub pork, Pacific white shrimp, Herb-crusted chicken breast, and Teriyaki-marinated sirloin, and paired it with the Cog Au Vin cooking style. It's an up-charge of $6, but I would definitely suggest it! And last, but not least, we ordered The Original chocolate fondue, which is milk chocolate melted with crunchy peanut butter. Each chocolate fondue comes with fresh strawberries, blondies, bananas, pineapple, marshmallow treats, pound cake and brownies. It was the perfect ending to our huge, indulgent lunch. read more

As far as melting pots go this is about as bad as it gets. We are here and the oils wouldn't get hot enough to cook the meats and warm up the other foods. Totally baffled by the great reviews. This restaurant is definitely NOT FOR FAMILIES. And not for tired moms, either, with or without the kids. Poor service, horribly confusing menu, least relaxing meal ever, and mediocre taste. Let me detail how my night went. First, I arrive with my husband, mother, and incredibly well-behaved 6 year old. We are all tired and really hungry after a long day at the beach. But when we sat down and looked at the menu, none of us could figure out what we were looking at. Instead of a list of food along with prices, there were several paragraphs with confusing headings like "Pick 3" and "Crave Combo." All the meals were priced for 2 people to share (55-65 dollars minimum). The menu items said things like "one cheese, one chocolate, salad, and pick 3" - no explanation anywhere for what any of that meant. I stared at the menu for five minutes and none of us could figure it out. We couldn't even figure out if we could order something for one person instead of two. Server shows up and asks if we are ready to order. We explain why we are not ready to order. She gives us some kind of explanation auctioneer-fast and then walks away. We still have no idea what's going on. We wait for her to come back and ask again for her to explain because we just can't order when we can't even figure out how. I'll summarize the rest, but let's just say that between us we had four graduate degrees including a PhD and figuring this out was almost beyond us. So it turned out that the four courses actually means we all get a salad, we all share a pot of cheese fondue with dippers, we all share a pot of broth to dip entree items in, and we all share a pot of chocolate fondue for desert. BUT - we all have to share one fondue pot at all times. That means we all have to choose the same cheese flavor. Not fun. And here's the really bad part: They give us our entrees uncooked and we get to COOK OUR OWN FOOD. Yippee, can I go home now? Who wants to do that?? Maybe young hipsters who live on restaurant food or hoity toity foodies, but NOT real people who already cook at home and expect to be served in a restaurant. Plus, I'm a vegetarian - how am I going to share a pot of broth with meat in it? She tells me I'll have to cook my vegetables in the pot first, and then everyone else will cook their food when I'm done. So I ask her, how long will that take? I mean, we're hungry, and now we're talking about me having to cook my meal while everyone waits to start cooking theirs. She says 30-45 minutes. I freak out. You want my family to wait 30-45 minutes for me to cook my food in a pot on the table, before they can even begin cooking theirs? Now the helpful manager jumps in. It's European, he says. It's the European style of eating. It's good for conversation. So apparently, we're just too American for this place. Except I've lived in Europe and eaten plenty of European meals, and never once had to cook my own food while everyone else waits. I decide to forgo the entree and order one of the fondue combos that skips the entree and just does a cheese fondue and a dessert. She tells me the problem is that everyone else will be cooking their food for 30-45 minutes while I do nothing. This just gets better and better. I tell her I don't care. We finally order. Salads come. Californian salad is very good. That's the first and last good thing of the night. Cheese fondue comes - she mixes it up in a pot on our table and we get some bread and vegetable to dip in it. Cheese is tasteless and mostly has the effect of making the bread soggy and the vegetable wet. My six year old sums it up with "blech." Entree fondue shows up - a pot of hot broth on the table. I dump the remainder of my cheese fondue vegetables in and everyone kindly puts their veggies into the pot so that I can eat some if I want. We time it with an iphone and take them out after 6 minutes. They taste ok - pretty much like vegetables dipped in vegetable broth. Which they basically are. Then comes the "European" type thing where everyone gets to dip their uncooked meat in the pot. Turns out we are not classy or something because everyone dumps their meat in at once and again we time it and take the meat out. It takes about another 5 minutes. The meat is OK, or so I'm told, but the act of having cooked it ourselves in a pot of broth added nothing to the meal whatsoever except that my 6 year old managed to burn himself three times. He did not cry or complain. He really is great in a restaurant. Summary - The food did not taste great and there was nothing fun at all about having to cook it ourselves. It was a stressful evening and not at all relaxing. Would never go again and don't recommend to moms or families. This lousy experience cost us about $200. read more

The only drawback and not much fault of the restaurant was that there was a loud and fairly rude table that had kids. I have three of my own and no way would they be allowed to act that way. I would have apologized and left the restaurant. I would have thought a restaurant like this would have at least asked the parents if they could calm the kids. Im talking about kids of age and not children under 6 or 7. This restaurant is more for private and romantic settings, not running and tagging and hollering. We have lived here 30 years, and this place was the worst place we have ever eaten. The appearance is fine, service fine, food awful and price was outrageous! We went there because my daughter picked it for her birthday, and she brought 3 friends, plus 2 of us, and the bill was $700! We would never, NEVER go there ever again!
