Thoroughly enjoyed my dinner at The Mexican. My partner and I arrived at opening (5:00pm) on a Saturday. The bar was already full and people seemed to be having a great time. We were promptly seated in one of the dining areas. Wayne (I believe that was his name) was our server for the evening and he was great! He was well versed with both the dinner and drink menu and offered suggestions that we enjoyed. We enjoyed Palomas, cauliflower, Parmesan Truffle fries, Cowboy Ribeye, and Scallops & Camarones. This place is beautiful and the ambiance is fantastic. My wife took me here for my birthday. The food was very good and the server was extremely professional and knew the menu well. We would have had an excellent night except for 2 things. 1. I ordered 'Papas Fritas' that weren't brought out when our food was delivered to our table. I told the deliverer, not the server, about the missing item. He said he would check it out, but he disappeared and I never got my Papas Fritas. The server noticed that we never received the item, apologized and took it off the bill before we got it. 2. Early in our meal, someone who must have been a manager approached the couple seated next to us by asking them how everything was. This is pretty standard in any restaurant, but he then proceeded to chat with these people for 20 to 25 minutes while standing 5 inches away from my wife. He would not stop talking to these people. They talked about his travels, his accent and many other things. It was as annoying as listening to someone shouting a conversation on a Bluetooth device in a public place. The server and the person who brought out the food had to work around the guy. I mentioned it to my server and later that person came and apologized for what he had done. Visited The Mexican for the first time last weekend for a date night. Overall food was good with the except of the tortillas which appeared to be Mission Tortillas from the grocery store vs homemade like you would expect at a high end dining experience. We loved the bone marrow tacos the best! Service was attentive but rushed us at the end of our meal despite the dining room having several empty tables. We ended up getting a dessert to go vs staying to eat it for this reason. The music was very loud making a date night and conversation difficult and alternated between latin music and dance music which would be fun if just turned down a notch. The Mexican was a happening place, and everyone was dressed to impress. Ambiance : 4 stars The Mexican has an outstanding ambiance but with very loud music. It's difficult to have a conversation unless you are in one of the extension room in the far corner. It has a fine dining vibe to it but lacks the sophistication. Turning down the music volume a bit would definitely help. Punctuality : Zero stars we made a reservation and yet had to wait over 25 min to be seated. What is the point of reservation? Drinks: 2.5 stars Nothing extraordinary. What a wonderful anniversary dinner! We were seated at our table and an anniversary card from the Mexican was waiting for us. Two complimentary glasses of champagne arrived. What a lovely way to start our dining experience. Loved the chips with the various salsas. Our server was outstanding! He provided spot on suggestions for food and drink and wonderful info about Day of the Dead which was being celebrated. We started with AGUACHILE DE RIBEYE 26 (seared american wagyu ribeye cap, avocado, citrus, onions, radish, cilantro, truffle oil) and it was amazing. So many flavors. I then had the Jumbo Scallops and Camarones and was SO happy with my meal. My husband had the enchilada trio. Of the three, the lobster one was my fave but he loved all three. A Mariachi band played, all the females working there wore Day of the Dead make up, and a Day of the Dead couple was walking around for pic opportunities. I have eaten at my fair share of great restaurants, but I was honestly blown away by my dining experience at The Mexican. Everything from the staff and service, to the ambience, and of course, the food, were superb. We were a party of two, myself and my best friend. Joseph was phenomenal. Upon introduction, he ask our names as he took us to our table. We had a reservation, and we didn't wait. Joseph also checked on us throughout our meal, and addressed us throughout the evening by our first names! Gabriel was our waiter. He was excellent, as well, and we will be asking for him in the future. Food was DELICIOUS. We had drinks, the wagyu ribeye appetizer and we both ordered the sea bass...and then there was the cuatros leche. Nothing was less than divine. I am literally salivating writing this review and thinking about the food! You must try it all! The entire experience was beyond superb. Even though it was our first time dining at the restaurant, the staff made us feel as if they had known us for years, and treated us as their very special guests. Our interaction with the staff seemed genuine and intimate. There was never a time in which we wanted for anything, whether it be another drink or the check. The restaurant itself is beautiful. There are a few separate areas of the restaurant that seem to have their own unique vibe, you can enjoy anything you are looking for. There is a main dining area, the main bar, a closed-in AIR CONDITIONED patio, a second open patio, and I also saw another open extension outdoors beyond the open patio with more space and an outdoor fireplace. When we left, we said our goodbyes, and Joseph addressed us both by our first names again, and told us he would see us next time. He definitely will be seeing us soon. It was another night where I wrestled with ideas for dinner. Something tried and true off the worn rotation list or a step out into the unknown and risk venturing into a eatery with all of its uncertain promises? After thirty minutes of ugly and tortured deliberation, I decided on The Mexican after reading a few reviews on Open Table (sorry, Yelp). Sure, it involved driving 30 minutes to the Design District, someplace I rarely go these days, but I threw caution to the wind and decided to give it a whirl. Perhaps what caught my attention was The Mexican is not your every day refried beans, corn tortillas, and chile rellenos type of place. Sure, I had a hankering for Mexican food, but I was looking for something a little more upscale and The Mexican seemed to fit that bill. The menu fit the restaurant's aesthetics. Mexican food that was true to its roots, but elevated. Glancing at the website, I was pleasantly shocked to even see a dress code which asked for a "step above business casual dress." That was something sorely missing in Dallas, and a good excuse to wear my new Canali jacket and John Varvatos boots. And as we pulled into the valet, I noticed that the restaurant was upscale enough that it attracted the Lamborghini crowd. Service was attentive; no complaints. Drinks and shareables came out well paced; not rushed. I can't comment on the cocktails and bar service since I'm currently not imbibing, but I almost broke my moratorium. Maybe next time when I'm not being such a good boy. After munching on tostaditas listed as hot shareables, I opted for the Ahi Tuna Jardin. The portion was actually more than I needed. While good, it fell just a tad flat on the flavor equation. But maybe my taste buds were on vacation that night. I'd call The Mexican a winner and worthy of a trip to the Design District. Awesome experience tonight at The Mexican. Our server Eddie G helped us pick amazing drinks, appetizers and the best steak (Wagyu a La Roca) I have had in a long time. After coming back and giving it another shot, I had a great experience!! Just how it has always been since the beginning when I began to come here. Our table was ready as we did make reservations prior to. The manager greeted us as soon as we were sat down. We were in the lower patio, and the other guests beside us also noticed the AC fan was also a bit strong so the server helped us move away from blowing towards both them and us.
