I made a reservation here for my friends bday yesterday. We had a group of 9 girls and it was all our first time at the restaurant and we were super excited. Our waiter Wayne was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. We loved the drinks and the food. Everything was very good but our food came out all at different times. Some girls ordered steak and then it took 20-25 mins for the sides to come out. So if you wanted to eat them together the steak was cold by the time the sides came out. One of our friends also didn't receive her entree when everyone else did. Our waiter called out the mistake and said he would send the manager over. She never came over. I bought a cake for my friend for her bday they brought it out with a sparkler. And then a knife. They didn't offer to cut the cake we just cut it ourselves. Then the waiter sent over a complimentary dessert. We later got our check back and we had charges for drinks and shots we didn't order and a $25 charge for cake cutting. We asked our waiter to send the manager over. Ashley came over and we told her about the food coming out at different times and being cold and asked about the cake charge. She basically just said that the kitchen is really busy and thats what happens in restaurants like this. She was very rude and laughed in my friends face. She said we gave you the cake for free (the slice of cake that they give to everyone and that we did not ask for). Then just walked away. I really wanted to like this place but the manager really left a bad taste in our mouths. We have all been to nice restaurants like this and I have never encountered a manager being this rude. From reading some of the other reviews it sounds like you are hiring some questionable characters. very very disappointed about this place. i contacted Vadan, the sales manager, about my husband's 40th birthday party and expressed that we would like to try the food first before i committed to the booking. my email clearly requested her to help us book a reservation for that night (thursday night) at 530pm and she replied that she could only book us for 515pm. 3 emails later, i decided to rush to the restaurant after my children's after school activity just to make it to the 515 reservation. when after work traffic was so bad on DNT, i even emailed her again letting her know we would be about 10-15 mins late. when we finally got there after being stuck in toll way traffic for 45 mins, the front desk told us that we did not have a reservation for that day. it took another person a while to locate my reservation and it turned out that Vaden booked us for that Saturday instead. they said they could seat us, but because we did not follow their dress codes, they could only seat us at the courtyard. i was not aware that this restaurant had dress code of no shorts for males. the girls in the front literally rolled their eyes and said the dress code was up on their website and because my husband and sons were dressed in shorts (under 112 degrees in dallas summer) we were not dressed properly for the main room. i asked to talk to Vaden and when she came out, not a single friendliness or apology about making my reservation on a wrong date. i told her it really wouldnt hurt to mention/remind people about their dress code in any one of the emails we exchanged since this summer has been extremely hot and over 110 on most afternoons. still, not a single friendly gesture, hardly any smiles on her at all actually. i asked if i could see the two spaces that Vaden suggested in the email. i was expecting about 14 people for my party and the room she showed me was really for 12 people. you would have to squeeze 2 extra people the the two ends of the table to fit 14, but it would be very tight. the other space by the tequila wall, she even mentioned that it would be very noisy if we fit the party over there. so why even suggested and made it sound like they had options? i walked out feeling furious and time wasted because this "sales manager" Vaden was so unprofessional and seemed so clueless/careless about my inquiry. very very disappointed. i shouldve took the hint when i found this place on yelp with so many bad reviews. sometimes bad reviews r here for a reason, i will definitely value the bad reviews more carefully in the future. read more

Upon arrival I was told I could not wear my shirt which they called a bralette (see pictures attached). We kindly instead asked the manager (male), is this on your website? He said no but that they are "working on updating the website". He proceeds to say that I would not be allowed in unless I had a cover up. After receiving a workers uniform shirt to wear that I was told COULD NOT come off, tell me why 5 seconds later I see a girl in a hat and a girl wearing gym joggers but were not told to leave.... The worst part is, I saw a girl wearing what they call a "bralette" similar to mine but was not forced to wear a uniform shirt. The food was a hard 6 out of 10. And after the disrespect and favoritism of what or whom is allowed in, I would give this a -1 out of 10. And if I could, I would provide zero stars on yelp. Management, as Senior Executive who works in the hospitality industry - I urge you to please update your website. Be precise and firm on ALL guest not just who your hostess chooses to point out, it is just as much your responsibility! With that being said, placing a standard on what you expect from customers attire but failing to be firm on ALL guest will have you being a Mi Cocina in no time. The service at this place was unacceptable. We came knowing we were going to grab open seats at the bar, first come first serve. We grabbed a drink from the bartender and he told us there's a wait to sit at the bar and he'd put us on the list. An hour later and multiple people getting seated by the bartender (clear they were his friends) that had arrived well after us...still no seat. We even tried to ask with ignoring us. It became clear that the bartender was only allowing "open seating" to people with a certain "look". We were in dress code, but are in our late 30s, not young and vibrant. I was able to grab a chair, and my husband had to stand. Once again, being ignored and finally after 30 more minutes of trying to order another drink, we gave up. It was clear they did not want our service, and so we closed out. I don't know if the food was good...we never got the chance...and the 1 drink I had was subpar. Not a place I will be going back to or ever recommending. I don't need to be a part of the "it scene" as we all know this place will likely not be the "it scene" for long with this kind of service and selective clientele. read more

This is Mexican meets Texican meets Sexican cuisine! FOOD: Chips & Salsa: Of course they don't have the blasé triangle tortilla chips. They have long, rectangular corn tortilla chips which are great for scooping and dipping. They're served with FIVE different salsas/sauces; from mild to muy caliente! Each sauce has a very unique taste and one (or more) will surely satisfy your tastebuds! Queso Fundido: This is an appetizer I ALWAYS order when it's on the menu so I'm a bit of a "Queso Fundido Connoisseur". *wink* The Mexican's Queso Fundido stands out because they put ALOT of chorizo in it. Most restaurants sprinkle it sparcley on top; not here. I would say it's 60/40 chorizo to cheese. Now I love cheese but I'm definitely not mad about this ratio! They mix it tableside and serve it over homemade corn tortillas. Yes, order this! Guacamole: Served in a molcajete. The avocado is smashed with seasonings. Next to the smashed avocado are chopped onions, chopped cilantro, and chopped tomatoes allowing you to choose what you want to mix in and the amount. Nothing spectacular about it but it is very fresh, and I personally feel avocado has such a yummy, buttery taste, it doesn't need all the bells & whistles. It's a "KISS" (Keep It Simple Stupid) dish. Fried Pork Belly: OMG! I'm salivating just thinking about this dish! It's fried perfectly then served with flour tortillas, cilantro, onions, and two sauces. This dish will be my "will always order" dish when I go to The Mexican. Camarones (Shrimp) Enchiladas: Yes, another dish I highly recommend! They use good size chunks of shrimp; not baby shrimp that tends to have a fishy taste. The sauce is a simple tomato sauce that allows the fresh flavor of the shrimp stand out. Tomahawk Steak: We were so lucky to be the very first customers to order the Tomahawk since their grand opening. The chef not only cooked it but personally delivered it to us because we popped their Tomahawk "cherry"! It was cooked perfectly and came with a  flavorful de arbol sauce and sea salt for dipping. The board it was served on (I think it was a cedar plank) gave the steak a nice depth of flavor. Manchego Whipped Potatoes with Chorizo Gravy: GOOD LORD THIS IS AMAZING! I'm salivating again. The potatoes were so fluffy and creamy. And the chorizo gravy: I think you could put it on an old sneaker and it would be delicious! DRINKS: We're champagne drinkers. If you are as well, you'll be happy to know they have a nice selection. HOWEVER, we were intrigued with the $250 margarita, Pancho Villa. They mix it tableside. After they pour it over the large square ice cube, they stamp it with their emblem. It's the Louis XIII of margaritas! It's incredibly smooooth! It's definitely a "sip slowly" margarita. $250 sounds like alot but it's still cheaper than filling up the gas tank. And if you're going to get gassed, might as well get a good buzz from it.... SERVICE: I'm usually hesitant about going to a new establishment until at least a month after they have opened so that they can get all the kinks out. Knowing the GM was previously management at one of Dallas' top, high-end steakhouses, I felt confident this newly opened establishment would not disappoint in service, and I was spot on. The service is super attentive but not over bearing. Everyone was knowledgeable of the menu (both cocktails AND food). You felt welcomed and appreciated to be there. AMBIENCE/DECOR: This is a very sleek and sexy establishment especially the bar and the cigar room. Ladies, the bathroom is a selfie haven so be sure to take your phone with you when you go to "powder your nose". *wink* EXTRAS: As previously mentioned, there is a cigar room with THE COOLEST bar! I won't give it away; it will be a surprise for you! They have private rooms for private parties. They have tequila lockers to purchase to store your favorite bottles. There's an outdoor patio. They thought of everything! I predict this will be the hottest ticket in town for a long while. The "see and be seen" place but not pretentious, stuffy, or douchey. Probably my favorite restaurant in all of Dallas. I also think it could be the best steakhouse in Dallas, next to Al Bernait's. The service is impeccable. I've been multiple times and always had knowledgeable, fun, personable servers. They messed up my order one time and could not have handled the situation better- did not charge me for the entree and consistently checked on me while I was awaiting the correct entree. Sea bass is also amazing, ceviche is AWESOME, everything I have had is great. The margs are to die for. Inside is definitely a scene, pretty loud on weekends, so expect that. read more

They said out of dress code, no denim shorts, which two of the girls were wearing. Asked to be sat in corner away from everyone, not in dining area and he said no. Managers name was Eddie, i said my buddy made my reservation (sorry for putting your name here) (edited and took off, cause not throwing him under bud after thinking about it) anything you can do, he said no, we have a strict dress code. Called an Uber to a different Resturant, Uber was pullin up and 2 girls i saw walking into the Resturant, one wearing the same shorts out girls were wearing, so i said hold on, want to see if they were letting these girls in. Waited til they walked in and cracked the door so i can see and say them get let in after they grabbed a silk type of robe from the closet and gave to here to cover her shorts... that's when i walked in and to surprise, Eddie's (the GM) eyes lit up and was caught off guard... i asked him why they let them in, he said they were in different attire... i said what kind of different attire cause our girls were wear long same shorts and same sort of tank top, then started getting very defensive, i own restaurants and i understand dress code and procedure! But Eddie was way out of line, and when i called him out all he could do was stutter!!! Restaurant runs smoothly. Always someone working their way around dining room to refill drinks/bus tables. Guac and barbacoa tostaditos were great. Red snapper tacos were amazing, wouldn't change a thing. Seafood trio enchiladas were very fresh. Quatro leches was a win. Truffle parm fries are just regular pre-frozen fries with no truffle flavor. The intricacies of reservations‼ I understand that balancing walk-ins and reservations to maximize revenue can be challenging. An unexpected event occurred to our family while in route to dinner that caused them to be an hour late. We sat at our table for 1hour (table 51) waiting for them. Upon their arrival, the server came over to our table and in a rude manner, proceeded to say: are you finally ready to order food and drinks because this table is reserved for others and we had to accommodate them at a different table? My partner and I decided to celebrate our anniversary this past Friday at The Mexican. We had a 9:15pm reservation but we weren't seated until 9:45pm. That started off on the wrong foot. Our server was nice, but he could have paid more attention to details like refilling our water glasses, replenishing silverware after it was taken away, and explaining to us why he is taking the garlic bulb off our plate to mash it up. It is strange to be served your entree then having your waiter pick up part of your food without requesting to or explaining why with his bare hands. We ordered the bone marrow shared plate and it was doused with chives. It looked like grass was just thrown over the food. The excessive use of this garnish seems wasteful as they were bitter to the taste and takes away from the flavor of the dish. My partner said his milagro boneless ribeye was dry and over-salted. It was also covered in the same chives. I ordered the wagyu a la roca and I had no complaints about this dish. The manchego whipped potatoes we shared was too rich for our tastes - the gravy overpowered the flavors of the manchego and potato. The quatro leches cake was delicious and the best tasting menu item out of everything we ordered (besides the 5 salsas and chips from the beginning). The venue is stunning and we were very excited to try this new establishment, but we were hoping for a better dining experience. read more

Atmosphere is fantastic and they did a killer job on the decor, the lighting is subtle and they absolutely nailed the ambiance. The drinks were inventive with layered flavors and perfect presentation. The wine list was total crap though - so if you're not in a Tequila/Mescal mood, you're not going to be thrilled. We tied about ten things on the menu and the Cauliflower was spectacular. It pretty much ended there. If it had been one thing, I would have brought it up to our waiter - who was fantastic - but essentially everything we had was along the flavor balance of a car battery. If you like acid, this is the place for you. There aren't small tweaks that can be made to the menu to help - I would say fire bomb the whole thing, but give it a little while and I'm guessing it will eat its way through the floor. So much of this place is amazing, was beautifully thought out and executed, but the food was a miss. Eat somewhere else first and definitely hit the bar to enjoy the scenery. read more
