We shared cuisine that was over the top, starting with the Tostaditas, Oysters Rasurados, & Roasted Bone Marrow with Sea Salt, moving on to the main courses of Salmon Piquin, and Filet Mignon, accompanied by Confit Wild Mushroom. DELICIOUS! The meal wouldn't have been complete without trying the Mezcal Bone Marrow Luge, with a desert of Espresso Martinis, and Chocolate Pepitas, the largest piece of chocolate fudge cake ever. You can't leave without sneaking a peek of the women's restroom. Definitely a reason for them to stay a while. This place is a nice vibe.... Food was okay... I had Cabernet Sauvignon and oysters. I loved the sauces it came with. Then I ordered the lobster enchiladas. It was also okay... I was so full with my oysters and I was only able to eat one of two enchiladas and I asked to take the other home. These enchiladas was $40!!!! And it came w 2 drenched in sauce. We left our private room and I quickly went back to get my to go only to be told they took it away and that's all they told me. They did not offer to replace it or find it. It was like "your shit outta luck" . The server was good and attentive. For a party of 7 girls, our total bill was over 745.00... I'm from San Diego and have had much better food than this. The vibe is great but it did not match the food quality. I would have rather spent the money at Fogo de Chau - @least Fogo's food quality matches the vibe and cost and quality and flair of their food. read more

First, the good: ambience was excellent (great music and vibe), as was the salsa sampler with tortilla chips. But all that can't make up for the bad service and mediocre food. My wife and I had each made separate reservations, hers at 4 pm and mine at 5pm. We got there at 4pm, but the aloof/self-important hostess told us couldn't find her reservation and we were given an awkward look. The restaurant was COMPLETELY EMPTY. We were literally the first two people there - just seat us without all of the haughtiness! That brings us to the next awkward interaction - our server who barely spoke English. My wife was trying to avoid any cheeses that might potentially be unpasteurized (cotija cheese / queso fresco) and the server could not understand her request. If you don't understand something, bring over another server to help translate. Finally, the food was mediocre at best. The snapper tacos were decent. The lobster elote was WAY too cheesy (not to mention the lobster meat and corn were pretty stingy in portion, which I would not expect for a $30 appetizer). My wife did not think there was anything special about her chicken enchiladas. In my opinion, there are way better Mexican places in Dallas that surpass the food and service of this establishment. read more

Two of us had the tacos: $28. snapper bits were so dry it was like eating fish kibble, $26. shrimp were small and meh. AND, it's 3 small tacos with no sides. These rave reviews convinced me that reviews can be bought and are not always a true reflection of accuracy. The 5 or 6 complimentary house made salsas are mostly bland and/or watered down. At least two of them were both. I ordered the crunchy octopus with guacamole. I sent it back. I don't normally send food back for reasons I won't bore you with, but it was so tough that I thought I might choke. Almost impossible to break down. The guacamole that accompanied it: meh. Next. The lobster tacos were a complete rip off, not just because they were itty-bitty but because they weren't good. I specifically asked the server if the rice and beans in the description came on the side or were added into the taco and she told me that they come on the side. Wrong. They use rice and beans as filler to cover up the fact that they're serving you $6 worth of chewy lobster meat. Yes. $40 teeny tiny rice and bean tacos with a dash of chewy lobster. I was still hungry after the lobster tacos so I ordered a chopped salad. Now, here's where I really get pissed off. I love salads. I loved every ingredient in the salad. I hated this salad. It was wet and mushy. There were too many pieces of brown lettuce to be acceptable. The dressing was bland. It was worse than everything that preceded it. The food is good but not great. Some of their dishes are drenched in oil and so fried. Due to the power outage, they canceled our reservation a week prior and made us the new one for the following week. When we showed up earlier, we sat by the bar area, waiting for our table. The reservation was at 7:30, but apparently, they had lost our reservation and did not sit us down until 8:30. Their reasons were that the table they were waiting on was taking their time. Meanwhile, the bartender made us uncomfortable sitting at the bar even though we were ordering drinks. He just wanted our sits for his usual customers. When I mentioned this to the host, she assured me that the manager would approach us and the appetizer and dessert would be on the house, which neither happened. My wife and I visited the Mexican last night for our anniversary, after our first attempt was derailed with a sick child. This time, we made it. Wow. Complimentary valet service, and a buzzing atmosphere greeted us at the door. Music was a bit loud, but I'll attribute that to being a mid-thirties dad being out past my bedtime. The bar was lively, and was even busier when we left around 9:30. A DJ was setting up as we were leaving. We were seated in the dining room with large plate-glass windows. It was much more quiet in there, so we could have a nice conversation without shouting. As the sun was going down, the light in the room was very enjoyable, coming from the huge windows. Oscar waited on us, and was superb. We came in thinking we had the menu figured out and knew what we wanted. Nevertheless, we asked for recommendations, and he gave us a few options. Many of which we took to heart and ordered. We ordered: -Aguachile de ribeye -Sea Bass Ceviche -Free range chicken tacos -Roasted beet -Spinalis The Spinalis was the star of the show, and I was almost too full from everything else to finish it, but we soldiered through. It was a masterpiece. The Ceviche was incredible, as was the aguachile de ribeye. This is to say nothing about the tortilla chips and sauces served beforehand. Last night was my second time coming to the restaurant and after having a great first experience I was extremely disappointed. Our server was great but was food on the other hand was not. My sister and I both got the a la roca, one steak and one chicken. The peppers burned so bad on the rock that they weren't even edible. Just burnt. The chicken was extremely dry. My sister was hesitant to order the steak but did and said it was awful. Not seasoned. Overall it was a total bust and we will not be returning. You figure for the price the food would be amazing but in this case it wasn't. My sister's comment as we left.. "we should've just gone to Taco Bell." I think that speaks for itself. read more

Obsessed! From the assortment of salsas they bring to the table to start, to the dessert we finished off with- everything was incredible. The ambiance reminds me of a Mexican version of Restoration Hardware's rooftop. The patio is air conditioned, which was great on a 98 degree night. We felt totally cool on the patio. On top of all of this, I felt like the prices were fair/affordable for how high quality the food was. I had the best dessert of my life for $13, a total steal. 11/10 recommend. read more

Slow service and some order mistakes but great food. Temperature of some plates could of been better. If it were not for the amazing people I was with, the great atmosphere, and some the best dishes I have ever had I would say the current 4 or 80% rating would be great. Always can improve when serving people. All around... good spot to have a celebration but be prepared for some slower than usual service. This is our third time here, we had the hamachi and aguachile ribeye to start... amazing. All the margs are awesome and our main course we had the langosta enchiladas and the chicken fajitas. Scene-y. Nice decor. Good service. Relatively good drinks. The food is overpriced and okay. They were out of the mashed potatoes. There are only a few vegetarian options for main plates- enchiladas, salads. Both were okay. We ended up paying near $400 for a group of 4 (each got a main plate, shared a couple apps, and two margaritas a person). Rice and beans are not vegetarian- which is pretty crazy in this day and age. I have visited the Mexican on several occasions, and every time, aside from my most recent visit the service and food was excellent. I was extremely disappointed with the service that I received at the Mexican. I usually order the same dish, jumbo scallops and camarones, I always substitute the asparagus for mashed potatoes due to it causing stomach upset. I informed the waiter of that and he stated that substitions were not allowed, I told him that I've frequented this establishment numerous times and they've always allowed me to switch the asparagus for a different side, as recently as two weeks ago. The waiter was adamant that no substitions were allowed. I find this policy ridiculous that a high end restaurant like the Mexican does not make food accommodations for guests with allergies. I feel as though we were treated poorly because of our race. I seen a guy in a suit walking around, he appeared to be the manager. He asked the table across from us if everything was ok, (the patrons were white) also the table right next to us, who were Hispanic. But he conveniently did not even look in our direction and ask us how we're doing. We spent over three hundred dollars on our bill and left there feeling like second class citizens. I am appalled that in 2024 black people are still not given equal respect and our hard earned money is not valued. read more

Had to create an account to speak about this evening's experience at The Mexican. Something that may be helpful for those considering to dine at this establishment for the first time. Reservations were made a week in advance with specifications to be seated in the dining room area. Parking is limited which is not an issue as there is a friendly valet staff that greets you upon arrival. The issues arose once we entered as we stated our name to be seated. The young lady at the host stand placed the menu over her mouth as she whispered something to the gentleman who walked us to our table. We walked past the coveted dining area with dim lighting, through the additional seating area with more natural light- eventually making our way to a lower level patio area. We immediately noticed a difference in not only the decor but the lack of accommodations that made this seating area less than desirable. At the time of our reservation, the outside temperature read 90° and that's the exact temperature we felt as we sat in the stained outdoor patio seats. Our server was knowledgeable and hospitable and the food was well prepared, flavorful, and seasoned. However, the nonexistent ac and the careless avoidant attitude from all three hostesses as we exited the restaurant made this entire experience an unfortunate one. We decided to celebrate my birthday at this restaurant due to the raving reviews and in hopes of supporting a local business. Hope that this review is useful to those that are deciding on a place to have a peaceful lunch/dinner or that are wanting to celebrate a major event. read more
