The entire dinner was not good. Ambiance is the only thing I would give a good rating. The food and the service were so bad I found myself thinking it could not get worse.... but it just kept getting worse. To begin, I am always the kind of person to look at the yelp page for a restaurant and the actual restaurant website so I can get a feel for what is about to happen. From the yelp, to the website, to the instagram, I was excited! I noticed on the website that there was a dress code, so I checked on the instagram to fact check, and yes, everybody was dressed up! I obliged! I love dressing up. First let down. We get there and, immediately, I see people wearing just regular jeans, sandals, tops, kids in ripped jeans (kids in general), and I was like... oh. so we aren't upholding standards of what we said. Then, theres a big coat check by the host stand. 2/3 people in my group have coats, nobody came up to offer to check them and the stand was empty. Hm. We are being led to our table, and lovely! We get sat at a table pushed too far against the serving station, where servers, server assistants, bussers, and food runners milled about throughout the dinner, bumping into me, hitting me with trays, and gossiping. Okay, where is one upside to this? Maybe being so close I am rubbing elbows with them they will give good service? Nope. I come from a family who has owned restaurants and bars, and I myself have worked in all positions: host, busser, expo, runner, server, and bartender. I have also worked in extreme fine dining. This place.... everything was close, but no cigar. Lazy was what I would say. For the price I am paying, I would expect the server to not only cross his t's and dot his i's, I want extreme detail! It began when the server asked "sparkling water or tap?" can't you just ask "still or sparkling?" Then, one of us specifically asked for tito's and topo, no soda gun. She got tito's and soda from the gun. We bit our tongues. Then, we did not see our server for so long, we had to ask a passing person to please grab him so we could order appetizers. I said I wouldn't dabble with a food review, but I need to mention that I have never once asked for salt, and here I did. As I am salting my appetizer, the entire salt grinder pops open and spills all over my food, my place, and me...... the grinder top was not screwed on correctly. Nobody checked before dinner service started? Then, to clean it up, they began to use their hands right in front of my lap to brush salt off of the table. No crumbers? By this point, my water and my drink are both empty, I am annoyed because I have salt everywhere, and my server still has not checked in since he took our appetizer order...... Again, we had to call somebody over to order second drinks. I know how this went, this guy put in our drinks and then probably found our server to let him know that we ordered through him, so now he runs over to check on us because he got caught forgetting about us. When he comes back, he takes our orders. This whole time, he has not been writing anything down, but okay, there's only three of us, our meals had no substitutions, so no biggie, I guess he can remember. Wrong! About 10 minutes later, he comes up to double check what I wanted to order for dinner. I understand just double checking, but 10 minutes later? Were you just now putting in our order ten minutes later? Anyways, at this point, our salsa flight is empty, no refills on that, and our appetizer plates and tapas plates are empty and dirty, our silverware placed at 4 o'clock to signify we were finished, and still, none of the people walking by us pick them up. We had to ask somebody to finally do it. Then, instead of getting a try and a tray stand, they stacked all the plates in their hands, and wobbily took them back. A fine dining no-no. I shouldn't even get into the rules of actually serving and clearing, which hands to use (serve left from left, serve drinks right from right, clear right through right, never carry more than one item in each hand), who gets served first (setting 1 female, then counter clockwise in positions for the rest of the females, then repeat with males, and never ever reach across a table), etc. because it seemed these workers knew none of it. If they did, they did not want to do it for us. The last straw was that I had not received a water refill in over 30 minutes, so I used some of the topo chico that we ordered in our second and third rounds of drinks to refill my glass. As we are finishing dinner, the server finally came around with water and topped off my glass while my hands were up and trying to tell him not to. I explained he just poured still water in my topo chico! Instead of offering to get me a new one, he just got a fresh glass and poured the dregs of the last bottle at our table (which costs a whopping $15 a bottle there) instead of getting me a new one, considering he just wasted around $8 of the bottle. Ugh. The night was abysmal. read more

Great food and service. I loved the creative twist on traditional dishes. The drinks and the starters are what stood out most and I would recommend coming with the a group to try everything. This visit we tried the pork belly that is perfectly crispy and while you could enjoy it on its own it comes with small tortillas, two salsas, and onion and cilantro to make your own tacos. The ribeye aguachile was excellent as well- great for truffle lovers. For entrees I tried the tortilla soup... it was a bit too thick and salty for my taste, I asked for an order of limes and that helped. The Mexican chopped salad was just okay... there were parts that were overly saturated in the dressing so I would recommend asking for it light or on the side. Bone marrow and filet tacos were great. In general the food runs on the over salted side. Margarita drinks were great... the espresso martini was also great to have with dessert. You must try the 4 Leches cake! read more

We were really looking forward to eating here. I reluctantly give it 3 stars but would try it again. I realize that many complain about the dress code, we understood before we went. In my opinion, with what I saw some of the women wearing, nice shorts and a nice shirt for men with nice shoes (not flip flops) should suffice especially in Dallas. Service (4 stars) - drinks took a while to get to us and they didn't clear the table quickly when finished with a serving. The servers themselves were very friendly and professional. Food (3 stars) - The salsa options were great. We also had the Aguachile Wagyu Ribeye starter, it was good, sauce was amazing but the beef was slightly over-cooked. The oysters were beautiful and tasted great but were still connected to the shell making it awkward trying to work it. The Caesar Salad was a bit soggy. The Tomahawk was delicious as were the drinks. They were out of Austin Hope and the next bottle remotely good was Justin Isosceles for almost double the price. The wine menu needs some beefing up and the markup is pretty outrageous considering a bottle of Justin is $75 and was $180 here. Environment (4 stars) - Nice, clean, great vibe. It's definitely loud, which didn't bother me but could tell people were having to lean in to talk. One recommendation would be to have pillows for the deep chairs as you can't sit back all the way unless you play on the Mavs. read more

Went to dinner here on a whim on a Sunday night after hearing many good things about what is considered the new "it" restaurant in town. Definitely a very beautiful restaurant and seemed pretty buzzing even for a Sunday night. They brought out tortilla chips with five different salsa's ordered from mild to hot and while they were all right, I don't think any of them could've been considered hot or spicy in the least and we didn't feel like any of them were fantastic. We ended up getting the Chicharrón as an appetizer which was incredible--very nice wheat crispy bits of ribeye with a tangy guacamole which we loved. Unfortunately, we didn't realize that they had placed a stack of fresh corn tortillas next to the Chicharrón which was meant to be eaten with it (they never mentioned this as they put it down on the table) so we missed out on the full experience. We then shared a plate of the chicken enchiladas which were honestly just fine but nothing to write home about. As a side, we had the manchego whipped potatoes with chorizo gravy--this was really delicious and a hit. Unfortunately, I ordered a cocktail which the waitress mistakenly brought out as a virgin drink and when I made a comment about this to her, she just apologized but did not offer to bring out the actual cocktail To make up for it and also did not bother to take this mistaken item off our final bill which was disappointing. I think we ended up having a very good experience because the ambience was great and clearly it was good quality food but in terms of flavor, there were certainly couple of missing among the hits. Stunning restaurant. A lot of beautiful people (in some cases in their own minds) people at the stunning restaurant. Beautifully presented food. If nothing counted but looks. The service was inconsistent (forgot our starters, took 15 minutes to bring the bill). Most of our dishes (two different starters, two different enchiladas, two different A La Rocas, three different margs, and a great glass of wine) were tasty but, with a couple of exceptions (loved the tostaditas) not much better, or different except in the presentation, than several other restaurants in town. And that said, the portions were generally smaller and the prices much higher. The exception was the desserts - absolutely huge and moderately priced. We'll come again for a night out on the town but not to satisfy a weeknight craving for food from south of the border. read more

This is probably one of the hottest restaurants right now in Dallas. We were fortunate to get a reservation at 8PM and came early. The food and atmosphere were absolutely amazing. Our waitress, Destiny, was so professional and fun. She was well-spoken and definitely did not steer us astray on what are the amazing dishes. We started with two cocktails, El Rey and El Nina which were amazing. WE got the pork belly and Clauiflower appetizers - both are astronomical. Our entrees were the American Wagyu fajita and the chicken enchilada with a side of the lobster elotes. The beef was so delicate and tender. The enchilada and salsa were so good. However, it was the lobster elote that we are still dreaming about. Finally, we finished with the cuatro leches - it was soft, not too sweet, fluffy, and light. While the food here was stellar, the thing that stuck out most to me was the service. My waitress was Alejandra, and she is honestly the best waitress that I have ever had. In addition to being incredibly sweet, I could tell she genuinely wanted to make my dining experience as smooth and enjoyable as possible. While speaking to her manager, Javier, about how excellent she was, he made me feel incredibly special with his top tier tequila recommendations. The fact that the service stuck out at an establishment with such an enjoyable ambience and top notch atmosphere food quality shows how wonderful the wait staff truly is. I absolutely enjoyed this place from the Food to the service. Everything was good and I do mean gooood. Things started out a little shaky when it came to my reservation but with a little patience from me and my team it was handheld accordingly. And it was definitely worth the wait might I add. Well let's get to the appetizers, the table side guacamole was fantastic and I think everyone should try. Also with me not knowing I liked raw tuna (Ahi) must I say it was so delicious that I kept going back for seconds. I ordered red snapper tacos for my entree and I can say what a twist to a fish that I eat on the regular. I was with a party of 5 and we all shared and I honestly can say everything that came out was exceptionally good including the servers and staff. I ended up meeting one of the GM's who was a pretty nice & knowledgeable guy. His name was Eddie and he came over and ask me to remove my hat (hadn't had a haircut due to my hectic schedule) and which I obliged. But after doing so we continued to be in dialogue about the staff, food & establishment to which Eddie didn't miss a beat. I do know if I ran any type of company I'd love to have a Eddie apart of my staff. All in all imo and I travel a lot this is the Best Restaurant in the Dallas area all around. This was my second time at The Mexican. The first time I went it was amazing. Service and food! But it was a Tuesday. This last time I went on a Saturday for my birthday. I put that in the reservation notes. Food was great. Service was not great at all. It took forever to get our food and drinks. They forgot one of our appetizers. So my husband spoke with Adrian who I believe is a manager about it and told him service had not been going well. He comped the guac. Even after my husband spoke with Adrian on how the service was, it was still terrible. Nothing changed. I spoke with Adrian at the end of our dinner before we left. Told him about how my husband had already spoken to him about the service being subpar. He said he comped the guac, which I thanked him for but said that wasn't the point. I explained we were hoping since bringing the service issue to his attention that things would improve but that wasn't the case... He did apologize and listened to my concerns.
