Mmm this was good. The restaurant was busy when I showed up on Monday night around 6. I was solo so I sat at the bar. Service was quick overall and one of the bartenders was great with suggestions, the other seemed newer and want super engaged, but still friendly enough. I went with a margarita rosa for my drink and really enjoyed the flavors, even with not being a huge tequila fan (I know, I know...). I had the taco trio meal with one queso birria, one Al pastor, and one taco de papas. All of the tacos were delicious. Also, the sweet corn tamale cake? Loved it. Awesome HH at the Chandler Mall! We went on a Thursday and got to try their all you can eat taco special. There are 4 tacos to choose from - Al pastor, potato, crunchy beef, and shrimp. I liked all of them except for the crunchy beef. It was okay, but not great. The best one was the Al pastor. It was juicy and flavorful. You can order 2 tacos at a time. The $4 margaritas on HH were pretty good too! The server was really nice and we liked the area we sat in. It was outside, but didn't feel hot since it was covered. The music was perfect. for ambience. Beautiful restaurant. The build your own margarita candy bar was overlooked with old produce, like dry orange slices, old bruised watermelon slices. I got the steak tacos came with rice beans and a corn mash. The corn mash is delicious. Steak tacos was just a slice of steak laying sadly on a tortilla. It just lacked a delicate touch seen thrown together. The beans are missing chicken, bouillon, and salt. The guacamole and chips are good. My husband got the enchiladas. The mole was missing like dark chocolate or something. People around us were ordering food that look absolutely delicious. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. The bathrooms are nice and clean the way they were super nice. The manager came by super nice. I wish they closed the windows outside. The restaurant felt humid. I would go back, but it won't be for a while. There's too many other restaurants to explore. The food wasn't as dynamic as the restaurant looks the Italiano Trump's this place, but the restaurant is so beautiful. I was looking forward to this night. It was average at best but with the prices they charge, expectations are higher. First, we made a reservation for standard, not high top. We were seated at a high top. No biggie. Thankfully no one had a disability. Second, was looking forward to trying the margarita flight but you don't get to choose your flavors. Doesn't say that on the menu. So I went with a safe classic with salt. Drink comes out without salt so she takes it back. The 2nd time only 1/4 of the rim is salted. I asked the server if that's normal. She said they only salt the whole rim if requested. Well, it doesn't say that anywhere so how the eff am I supposed to know. She was nice about it and had salt added to the whole rim. Mexicans generously salt the rims. Don't call it Mexicano if you're going to be stingy. Once I finally got to taste the margarita, it was bitter. Will never order it again. My friend got the frozen peach and said it hardly tasted like peach. I ordered a 3 taco plate. 2 of the three were good, the al pastor and birria. The birria was the best, would definitely order again. The fish taco was a major disappointment. No flavor, had to ask for salt and no crispiness to it at all. It was street taco sized so the actual fish was the size of a woman's thumb. Al pastor was also street sized but flavorful and tender. Birria was regular size. I think it's sad that Rubio's fish tacos are way better but there you have it. Beans were ok and didn't like the rice but I rarely do. In summary, this wasn't worth the price and if we didn't have reservations then definitely not worth the 1 1/2 hour wait they were quoting. First time here. What a cool restaurant! Great vibe. Loved the dancing. We had reservations at 6:30 and they sat us down immediately. Gustavo was our server and he did a great job. For an appetizer we had the RIB EYE CHICHARRON GUACAMOLE. So delish! We also liked the chips and salsa that they brought to the table. I ordered the mix match tacos- THE MICHELIN STAR TACO, CARNE ASADA, and THE QUESO BIRRIA. Before I get to the tacos, I just have to say the beans and rice were delicious. All three tacos were tasty and would order all three again but I think my favorite was the carne asada. My husband also had the mix n match - her ordered THE MICHELIN STAR, SINALOA VAMPIRO, and AL PASTOR. He was not a fan of the Al Pastor but he did like the other two. Others at the table ordered CARNE ASADA & CHILE RELLENO burritos (one wet the other as is), PRIME CARNE ASADA fajitas and the ENCHILADAS (I forget which one). Overall, everyone enjoyed their dinner. I'm late in writing this review. The Mexicano in Chandler is in front of the Chandler Mall. It used to be Majerle's. My husband and i had an early dinner here last week and everything was delicious! My husband and I are obsessed with the salsa . We shared the birria plate. I could only eat one because I kept eating the salsa and guac. Yummm! Food, service and the ambience are all wonderful. We have visited two times. Once for dinner, glad we made a reservation because they were packed, and just today for lunch without a reservation. We were seated as soon as we came in. Both experiences were great. Each time our server was happy, informed and made us feel welcome. The menu offers some delicious flavors with a unique spin. The best part for me is that they are so attentive and make sure you are having a great experience the entire time. The manager even checked on us twice to ensure we were laughing and smiling. It's not often the managers are out checking on the satisfaction at the tables but the standards here are high. I appreciate that. That along with the food It makes the cost worth it. Okay, first of all, I hate giving this place 3 stars, because one of my visits was fantastic. I came here with my family and ordered the margarita flight (yum) the guacamole carousel (yum) and fajitas for me, enchiladas for husband and quesadillas for the kids (yum, yum and yum). The only issue I had this night was that the robots weren't there. Apparently, they only come out on Friday/Saturday. I wish I had known that because I would have booked for Sat not Sun. Oh well. The other visit I did was on a Tuesday during lunch. I invited 8 people. The service was TERRIBLE, they ran out of tortillas and the bill was crazy and all we got was a mumbled apology from the poor server. The manager should have been out there. I originally had emailed the restaurant hoping for some sort of response or apology or something before I came to Yelp, but literally nothing. I don't even want anything from them, just an apology for a literal 2-hour lunch. I had people stressing out that they were going to be late getting back to work. Oh well. The Mexicano absolutely crushed it. I had the best freakin' birria burrito -- HUGE, super filling, and insanely delicious. The meat was tender and flavorful, and that red sauce took it to another level. Every bite was rich, comforting, and satisfying. Portions are generous, flavors are bold, and it's the kind of meal that leaves you full and very happy. If you're a birria fan, this is a must. I'll definitely be back for this again. Since we just had ate we decided to just have drinks at the bar. We ordered a Paloma. I'm not a tequila person but this Paloma was refreshing and delicious. ANOTHER AMAZING CONCEPT FROM CHEF JOEY! my fiancé and i decided to come try out this place during arizona restaurant week (we've been excited to try since we tried the italiano). we showed up on a saturday night as we had reservations. we were greeted as soon as we walked in and were seated right away. we sat in the main dining area. as soon as you walked in from the entrance to the main dining, the ambiance was lively. this place is definitely on the loud side so be prepared. personally i loved it. the entire experience throughout the night was a blast. they had some performers, a live dj, and even had guys in robot suits come out and dance around the restaurant (and staff gave out balloons to party). it was very fun and i can't say i've ever experienced anything like this! i LOVED that aspect!! as for the food - it was evenly delicious!! for az restaurant week, we got an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert! i chose to get the beef empanadas (which i would go back just for those!!), caesar salad (good!), the taco plate with al pastor, carne asada, and birria with rice and beans (all were delicious but would also come back just for the birria - YUM), and finally churros with dipping sauces (the caramel was the besttt). all this to say, we had a FANTASTIC night out and certainly one we won't forget. everything about this restaurant is well executed from the food to the experience and decor! highly recommend if you're looking for something new and exciting to try! thank you for a fun night! read more

The meat was all good but no garnish whatsoever. The beans were pretty bland, the rice was good. The margaritas had a very different flavor than most and I'm guessing it was from the tequila they used. Not sure I'll go back as I think they are overpriced for what they offer. My wife and I decided to try a new restaurant this evening. The Mexicano was what we settled on. This restaurant is perfect if you want to drink. However, the food was absolutely terrible. Everything sat in a pool of oil and grease. The meat was burned and had charcoal from a dirty grill stuck to it. Even the chips were overly oily but the salsa wasn't bad. The shrimp cocktail was soaked in overly spiced and salted tomato juice with rubbery frozen shrimp. Overall the staff was friendly and wanting to please but the kitchen staff needs to up their game. I will not be returning. We threw away the left over mess we took to avoid hurting feelings of the friendly staff. In the end I had some chips average guac and one bite of over cooked greasy meat. All their chips and anything crispy is cooked in beef tallow, their vegetarian options contain lard. As a vegetarian I was initially impressed with their few offerings, then the server told me about the beef tallow and my options went from few to just about none. I could have ordered a salad and paid full price for no protein, or ordered a fajita with no meat, again paying full price for no protein. No chips, no shells, no tacos. They use fake colored syrup for the margaritas-they aren't even handmade and look nothing like the photo provided. It's very hypocritical to claim to care about health to justify not using seed oils (which is a farce anyway) then fill your products with fake color and flavor. read more

We recently held a women's luncheon of 25 women at The Mexicano. It was 5 star Bravo! Great vibe, great service, great food. I personally had an amazing street corn salad and sangria, both were delicious! Gus and Isabelle was on it. Handling 25 guests at once is no easy task but they did a super job and smiling the whole time! We were in a more private area in the dining room. They have a super cool bar area and large patio. Eddy, the manager is so personable and customer friendly. He helped to accommodate our group. We appreciate that. I will be back and spreading the word!!! The ambience this restaurant is awesome and the food does not disappoint. The salsa was incredible and the elote guacamole rivals barrio queens pomegranate, tableside guacamole! The service we received was not great, our drinks took 45 min to arrive and the wrong drinks came out. We actually debated going directly to the bar because our server was not attentive to us at all. It seemed like the other tables had no problem getting their food and drinks in a timely manner. Giving four stars because of my experience yesterday. My first and second visit are deserving of 5, no, 10 stars. I had an amazing time! The food and drinks... chefs kiss!!! The DJ always has me ready to salsa across the floor. It's a vibe, real cute and a fun option for large groups. Wear something cute because you're going to want to take photos! They also have a bomb happy hour! My visit yesterday... different story. It started out great, lots of laughs and drinks celebrating my friend's birthday. I ordered my food and advised the server of my onion allergy. I was half way through my first taco when I realized there were onions or at least one onion on my taco. I sent the food back. The manager, Jen comes back to the table and basically confronted me about my food. She said "I need you to tell me what you think is an onion because there are no onions on here". The tickle in the back of my throat said otherwise, but I let her continue. She went on to say that the chef confirmed there were no onions on my tacos. I told her that I definitely ate an onion. She again told me I was wrong. Her overly pompous attitude REALLLY. PISSED. ME. OFF. It was so unnecessary and plain rude. This isn't my first rodeo, cross contamination happens. I'm certain the kitchen went out of their way to ensure there weren't any onions in my food. Unfortunately, an onion slipped in. I wasn't looking for a free meal. Hell, I wasn't even looking for an apology for the issues their accident were about to cause. I was looking for a safe meal that wouldn't make me sick. But, here I am, having the worst stomach pain because of the onion that wasn't on my food. Jen needs to be retrained on how to deal with customers. She has a nasty attitude that is telling of how much she dislikes working with people. She didn't have to say anything, nothing. But since she decided to, she SHOULD have said "our apology, we tried to ensure that there were no onions in your food. The chef changed his gloves and used a different (whatever) to make sure we didn't have a mix up. Even with that cross contamination happens. We'll make sure it doesn't happen again". I get that she's the manager and may have felt obligated step in but man... The crazy thing is, I was going to let it go. My friends brought up how rude she was. They were just as flabbergasted as I was about her bringing the discarded plate of food back. You can't make this up. If you made it this far, don't let my one bad experience stop you. Friends invited us to join them at this restaurant that they had been to once prior. We've never been there before. When walking in loved the look of the place and the vibe it had! Including cooler/younger type music. We decided to eat in the bar area and most of us off the happy hour menu. I had asked for salt on my glass and it did not come with any on it and when I told the server she kind of glanced down at it like what do you mean? I guess it had salt on it prior to making it to my table but certainly didn't have any once I got to my table .She told me she could go get me another glass but could not return my drink to the bar area. I told her never mind forget it. As far as meals, my girlfriend had the nacho bowl. Never seen nachos in a bowl before so it was kind of cool! she said she enjoyed it. Looked a bit like a salad. Her husband had the all you can eat street tacos, which I think were Carnitas, beef and something else. He had probably five or six tacos, and he enjoyed them. They were encouraging him to get as many as he wanted, but he stopped at six. Lol My husband had Baja fish tacos and said they were pretty flavorless. I had the Carne Asada street tacos. Which were as most street tacos quite small for $22. They were very tasty ! my husband's fish tacos were $23. Not sure what the nacho bowl cost but the all you could eat street tacos were just under nine dollars so that was quite a deal. I'm trying to decide if we would go back. The price of the margaritas was great however they didn't taste good. We may try it one more time, but I probably wouldn't be getting their bargain Margarita and instead ordering a top shelf one for around $17 but if it had that same acidic taste, I'd be really mad. lol read more
