We recently held a women's luncheon of 25 women at The Mexicano. It was 5 star Bravo! Great vibe, great service, great food. I personally had an amazing street corn salad and sangria, both were delicious! Gus and Isabelle was on it. Handling 25 guests at once is no easy task but they did a super job and smiling the whole time! We were in a more private area in the dining room. They have a super cool bar area and large patio. Eddy, the manager is so personable and customer friendly. He helped to accommodate our group. We appreciate that. I will be back and spreading the word!!! ANOTHER AMAZING CONCEPT FROM CHEF JOEY! my fiancé and i decided to come try out this place during arizona restaurant week (we've been excited to try since we tried the italiano). we showed up on a saturday night as we had reservations. we were greeted as soon as we walked in and were seated right away. we sat in the main dining area. as soon as you walked in from the entrance to the main dining, the ambiance was lively. this place is definitely on the loud side so be prepared. personally i loved it. the entire experience throughout the night was a blast. they had some performers, a live dj, and even had guys in robot suits come out and dance around the restaurant (and staff gave out balloons to party). it was very fun and i can't say i've ever experienced anything like this! i LOVED that aspect!! as for the food - it was evenly delicious!! for az restaurant week, we got an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert! i chose to get the beef empanadas (which i would go back just for those!!), caesar salad (good!), the taco plate with al pastor, carne asada, and birria with rice and beans (all were delicious but would also come back just for the birria - YUM), and finally churros with dipping sauces (the caramel was the besttt). all this to say, we had a FANTASTIC night out and certainly one we won't forget. everything about this restaurant is well executed from the food to the experience and decor! highly recommend if you're looking for something new and exciting to try! thank you for a fun night! read more

We went on a Friday at 4:00 pm and it was already packed so we were happy we had made reservations. There were 4 in our party and we all ordered a variety of tacos with beans and rice which will set you back about $25 per person! Pretty steep for tacos! The meat was all good but no garnish whatsoever. The beans were pretty bland, the rice was good. The margaritas had a very different flavor than most and I'm guessing it was from the tequila they used. Not sure I'll go back as I think they are overpriced for what they offer. We had a great visit at The Mexicano, the vibes were THERE!! Robot dancers and folklorico dancers really made the opening weekend extremely special! The build your own margarita bar was extremely fun (and great for pictures)! I have been waiting to try this restaurant since they opened it in Chandler! We were able to walk in with a group of 6 with no wait which was awesome! The ambience this restaurant is awesome and the food does not disappoint. The salsa was incredible and the elote guacamole rivals barrio queens pomegranate, tableside guacamole! The service we received was not great, our drinks took 45 min to arrive and the wrong drinks came out. We actually debated going directly to the bar because our server was not attentive to us at all. It seemed like the other tables had no problem getting their food and drinks in a timely manner. Giving four stars because of my experience yesterday. My first and second visit are deserving of 5, no, 10 stars. I had an amazing time! The food and drinks... chefs kiss!!! I ordered my food and advised the server of my onion allergy. I was half way through my first taco when I realized there were onions or at least one onion on my taco. I sent the food back. The manager, Jen comes back to the table and basically confronted me about my food. She said "I need you to tell me what you think is an onion because there are no onions on here". The tickle in the back of my throat said otherwise, but I let her continue. She went on to say that the chef confirmed there were no onions on my tacos. I told her that I definitely ate an onion. She again told me I was wrong. Her overly pompous attitude REALLLY. PISSED. ME. OFF. It was so unnecessary and plain rude. This isn't my first rodeo, cross contamination happens. I'm certain the kitchen went out of their way to ensure there weren't any onions in my food. Unfortunately, an onion slipped in. I wasn't looking for a free meal. Hell, I wasn't even looking for an apology for the issues their accident were about to cause. I was looking for a safe meal that wouldn't make me sick. But, here I am, having the worst stomach pain because of the onion that wasn't on my food. Jen needs to be retrained on how to deal with customers. She has a nasty attitude that is telling of how much she dislikes working with people. She didn't have to say anything, nothing. But since she decided to, she SHOULD have said "our apology, we tried to ensure that there were no onions in your food. The chef changed his gloves and used a different (whatever) to make sure we didn't have a mix up. Even with that cross contamination happens. We'll make sure it doesn't happen again". I get that she's the manager and may have felt obligated step in but man... The crazy thing is, I was going to let it go. My friends brought up how rude she was. They were just as flabbergasted as I was about her bringing the discarded plate of food back. You can't make this up. If you made it this far, don't let my one bad experience stop you. Friends invited us to join them at this restaurant that they had been to once prior. We've never been there before. When walking in loved the look of the place and the vibe it had! Including cooler/younger type music. We decided to eat in the bar area and most of us off the happy hour menu. We all had a Classico margarita off the happy hour menu, which was very well priced at six dollars but it didn't taste very good. Super acidic. I had asked for salt on my glass and it did not come with any on it and when I told the server she kind of glanced down at it like what do you mean? I guess it had salt on it prior to making it to my table but certainly didn't have any once I got to my table .She told me she could go get me another glass but could not return my drink to the bar area. I told her never mind forget it. As far as meals, my girlfriend had the nacho bowl. Never seen nachos in a bowl before so it was kind of cool! she said she enjoyed it. Looked a bit like a salad. Her husband had the all you can eat street tacos, which I think were Carnitas, beef and something else. He had probably five or six tacos, and he enjoyed them. They were encouraging him to get as many as he wanted, but he stopped at six. Lol My husband had Baja fish tacos and said they were pretty flavorless. I had the Carne Asada street tacos. Which were as most street tacos quite small for $22. They were very tasty ! my husband's fish tacos were $23. Not sure what the nacho bowl cost but the all you could eat street tacos were just under nine dollars so that was quite a deal. I'm trying to decide if we would go back. The price of the margaritas was great however they didn't taste good. Overall the food was just not that great. Barely warm, 3 tacos priced at 24 dollars, with the corn tamale cake being anything but just crumbs... the tacos are also not advertised as street size, appearing larger on the website. Pretty disappointing for the price. I can name some authentic Mexican restaurants in the downtown phx area that don't skimp out on the sides and are half the price. I go to The Mexicano for my birthday every year in North Phoenix since it has been opened. It is one of my favorite restaurants and I was so excited the Chandler one opened recently since it is so much closer to me!! The restaurants decorations were SO cool, I loved the 3 calaveras that changed color throughout the night as well as all the florals!! There was no wait time for our group of 6. 2 of our friends were not going to be joining us until a while after, which we told the server and he was okay with it. When we sat down, we were greeted rather quickly, we asked for a couple of minutes more to decide our drinks. When the server came back, my friends ordered the frozen margarita flight (to split) and chose the 4 they wanted for the flight as well as 2 dos equis. I got a frozen strawberry margarita and my other friend got a vodka soda. Our chips and salsa/elote guac came out quick and they were SO good, they were devoured quickly. We had a refill of chips and we still did not get our drinks. Our server came and apologized and asked if we wanted to order any more food at this time. We ordered the 3 Foot Machete Quesadilla with Birria. SO YUMMY!! That also came out and we still didn't get our drinks. The table next to us had 2 rounds of drinks before we got our drinks. After a couple more minutes, 30-45 minutes after we sat down, we got our drinks. We ended up with the frozen margarita flight (4 small sample margaritas), a large peach-habanero margarita, a large classic margarita, a large birria margarita, a large blood orange fennel margarita, 2 dos equis, my strawberry margarita, and the vodka soda. We were confused why the 4 large margaritas were attempted to be delivered to our table. Apparently, you don't get to choose our frozen margarita flight but we were never informed by the server that. That's a total of 8 drinks and 4 small frozen margaritas for 4 people. Our 2 friends finally showed up at this time. We told the server we did not want the 4 additional large margaritas that he put in because we were not drinking that many drinks. He said no problem and I assumed he took them off our bill. Our friends drinks came out quickly as well as their food!!! When we asked what the sample flight of margaritas was, our server did not know what they were and two of them were the same classic frozen margaritas. When we get the bill, we put it all on one card to make it easier, we ended up being charged for the 4 large frozen margaritas that we never drank nor touched the table. I spoke with the manager only to have them fix my receipt, mistakes happen. Of course, I still tipped 20% because we all have to make a living. I am just disappointed with the service overall. After visiting the Scottsdale location for my mother's birthday last year, I decided to bring her and my wife (first timer) here this past Sunday while we were in town visiting! My wife is Mexican so I was nervous if they'd pass the test lol. Thankfully, she loved the food and her drink! We all ordered taco trios, queso fundido (my favorite) and the traditional guacamole (my wife loved it). Our server was amazing (her name started with an A if I'm not mistaken!), very kind and attentive the entire time. I booked my birthday party of 16 2weeks ago thru online booking. My adult daughter called the morning of to make sure the tables were together in the bar thinking we could get happy hour by sitting in there. The girl on the phone said she would let her nanager know. Upon arriving there, the hostesses had no knowledge that we were coming and needed to go talk to her manager about setting the tables up. About half of our party was there at that time. 15 minutes later we were seated on the patio. I mentioned getting happy hour margaritas and our server informed us we could not get happy hour on the patio and it was only the 4 high tables by the bar and the bar stool area. My son inlaq said he was going to go order drinks from the bar, and was told by our server that we could not walk up to the bar to get drinks. I asked her why that was because he was going to just pay there when he got the drinks, and she said she'd have to get the manager to talk to us, so I said that'd be great. He came out and already had an attitude. He was rude from the beginning, and talked down to us with a condescending manner. I simply asked if we could get the happy hour margaritas (not even food) and he went off about how they would go out of business if they did that, and that they could not put our drinks in the computer that way because our table was not located in one of the 4 booths that is considered the bar or sitting at the bar which apparently is the only way you can get happy hour prices at all. If that is how they want to run their business, that is their right. However, the WAY this "manager" spoke to us as women was completely rude, unprofessional, and egotistical. He literally told me friend "What? You want me to take it up my?" And turned to show us his butt, stuck it out and slapped it with bis hand. At that point, he had escalated the situation wayyy beyond what it should have been, so I asked if he'd rather have our party of 16 leave, and he said "Sure if thats what you wanna do, because you're not getting your way". And I said "No, not because I'm not getting my way, but because you are RUDE!" So then all of us at the table were appalled at his overly "machismo" (egotistical) attitude and unprofessional and argumentative words, so we decided to leave. He was perfectly okay with that- mind you, we only asked if we could go order margaritas at the bar for their happy hour price, we were still going to be ordering food off the menu at regular price. So, we got up to leave, and another (sweet) waiter came up to us and said he was going to offer us our first round of drinks on him. I told him "No you shouldnt have to do that- your manager could have offered that! He was a complete dick in how he talked to us!" And so we left, and went to another Mexican restaurant down the street that was more than happy to have our party of 16 and the whole place (not just the bar) was on happy hour. The manager at El Mexicano told us that letting us order happy hour margaritas at the bar, would put them out of business, but I can assure you that his crappy attitude and ugly disposition for talking down to women is what will run this place out of business! By the way, it was roughly 5:00pm on Friday when we had our conversation with this man and of the 30 or so tables that were on the patio, only 4 of them had customers sitting at them. They should really re- think how they treat their customers! Five if us there, are business owners and I cannot believe how this "manager" could be so crude where he was trying to show off his butt and asking "Are you done?! Are you done?!!" When we were just trying to have a conversation. He said it was because "we weren't getting our way", but I can assure you that we left because he was a JERK! By the way, each ticket at the other restaurant we went to was about $50 a person, including the happy hour margaritas and food that we ate which I guess that amount doesn't matter to this "manager" because he's more concerned with talking down to women in making his point than actually having customers at their tables. read more

The Mexicano is a Joey Maggiore concept. I have to admit considering he is the son of the famed Tomaso and all things Italian I was skeptical of how good Mexican food could be under his 'hands'. However, I love all things 'Tomaso' family and living in Scottsdale and being what I consider regular patrons of the Maggiore restaurants and always loving them, I decided to make a reservation while our family was here visiting in this area. I highly recommend a reservation, btw! First off, friendly staff! Upon arrival we were greeted and sat and met with smiles and water! Important in the hot Arizona summer. The ambience is so vibrant and fun.. and reminds me Sayulita, a little village outside of Puerto Vallarta! Our drinks , two different margaritas, were amazing and fresh made. The mocktails were also good! There is a Build Your Own Margarita Bar with so many options but that's not my thing but I could see that being fun! The chips and salsa were tasty! My grandson convinced my husband to share the 3 FOOT LONG quesadilla which was done in two different ways : queso and asada! So much left over and tasty! Easily shareable with 4-5 people. Chef Joeys restaurants are all top-notch. We've been to all of them. They are our favorite restaurants in Scottsdale Phoenix from the ambience. When you walk in the fresh handmade tortilla station the timing of the food coming out exactly perfect the temperature of the food, the quality of the food, the freshness is the best Mexican food you will have outside of Mexico.
