We watched the football world championship there yesterday and stayed all afternoon. The food was delicios, honest and fresh prepared. The variaty of beers and cocktails is remarkable. Welp, this is a toughie. There's a lot to love here: huge patio (with outlets!!), free wifi, great locally-driven menu (grass-fed beef in their burgers-- and they're still under $10!), located in EAV, incredibly varied beer list, and they let you bring your dog on the patio. End things there and in my eyes you've got a 5 star joint. But when I only see the waitress three times during my quite long stay (to bring a menu, take my order, and bring my check at my prompt) I get a little annoyed. Especially cause my long stay was due to her absence. So then we end up in the 3-4 range, because even though it wasn't busy when I was there, this could be a fluke. And then there it was. A short, wiry black hair wrapped around one of my lettuce leaves. I'm not one to freak out about this kind of thing, so I just quit eating and put my food to the side. I wasn't going to complain or say anything unless I was asked how my food was, but considering no one ever checked in on me I just left my money and hairy salad behind and fled, sad to know that the likelihood of me returning here is so incredibly slim. read more

You have to support your local pub. Here are a few reasons why you should support this one: 1! They have a line of bar stools not located next to the bar with outlets for every chair. Way to "work" and have a beer. 2! The bartenders have these Alaska-esque beards. 3! Servers were very friendly. 4! They have a mini arcade. 5! For dinner, the prices were VERY affordable. As the newest pub to open up in EAV, I was pretty happy with my visit. Nice bar area, some large booths in the dining room, plus they had no problem seating our group of 10. Our server was friendly and attentive. The menu was pretty limited since they've just opened. We ordered the "trailer park salsa" as an appetizer since the description of sliced hot dogs in salsa was too good to miss out on. My only complaint was there weren't enough fritos to go with the dip. My entree was the fried soft-shell crab sandwich. It was good, but I wasn't a fan of the jalepeno marmalade spread. It was too sweet, and there was no hint of spiciness. I just scraped it off and poured hot sauce on the sandwich. The crab was yummy - no too greasy. My fiance had a mahi sandwich, but with a strange addition of goat cheese. I found it too strong for such a delicate fish. Good selection of beers, plus video games and foosball. Overall, a fun place to go with friends. Can't wait until they get their patio furniture in - the patio is huge and it will be perfect in the evenings! read more

Can I just say, total Sausage Fest. I have never liked this place. Ever. The deck was hot and the inside was full of arrogant EAV dudes watching soccer. That's always really irritated me. Well, either I've changed, they've changed or I was just in a good mood. There is a structure over the patio now that gives some refuge from the harsh urban elements. The beers are really fantastic. Service has always been nice, but this last time it was better than I remember. 5 stars on the beer selection. Tattooed thirty-somethings with small children, frat boys and (I am not kidding) gay thugs hanging out on the patio. Mrs. Pac Man plugged in next to the restroom. Plasma's over the bar. The vibe certainly hasn't yet grown into its own shoes. Our service, on the other hand, was quite good. Although the patio was full and the staff were short-handed, Sara was informative and attentive. The selection of beers on draft is decent, particularly if you are into off the beaten path high-gravity options (The Russian Imperial Stout was quite tasty). The food we ordered was at least passable (detailed below) and will hopefully improve as Midway hits its stride. Chicken Wings - we ordered hot, these were not-so-hot, but nicely moist/crispy. Smoked Trout and Jalapeno Dip - not sure where the jalapenos were, but they weren't in this dip. That said, I really did enjoy the oily smokiness of it - think warm whitefish spread. Edamame - salted microwaved (June 27 correction, they are boiled, not microwaved - thank you Sara) soybeans - they were plentiful and nicely firm. Those within eye shot seemed to be enjoying the (rather large) burgers and sandwiches - so I am certainly willing to make that next step beyond the apps the next time I go. Apparently this is one of the new pubs to open up in EAV, My visit here was just right. Nice bar area, ( big flat screen tvs, great set up along the bar, plenty of space to get in) large booths in the dining room, and a great open patio where you can still hear the music from the jukebox, but also carry a convo.Great selection of beers, and you can't beat the mini arcade with everything from video games to foosball. I love the patio, the servers, the board / video games, the ample opportunity to watch sports on big assed tv or ignore them altogether, The cozy booths, the giant fans outside, the jukebox, the BELLYWASHERS!!, the best chicken fingers in this whole damned town, it's close to work, it's not crowded with douchenozzles, the pork sliders, the dogs , the well appointed space, and last but not least the JK's Scrumpy Cider that I can not get anywhere else. Pretty cool place, would definitely go back, especially when they finish their patio. They've got a good variety of beer and wine. I had the Allagash White. Ordered the eggplant fritters as an appetizer, which were yummy. Ordered the fried chicken as my entree with mashed potatoes, gravy, and spicy asian slaw. Leslie has been down in the dumps the past few days so I decided to take her out to cheer her up. We wanted to get ice cream at Morelli's so I thought we grab a few drinks and dinner in East Atlanta. Since everyone looked like they were having a great time at the patio in front of Midway, we decided to go there! You are probably wondering why only 2 stars. Well the first thing is that Midway has a fantastic space. They have a huge patio and at night they open up the doors to make one huge space. The second star is for the beer selection. There are lots to choose from! This probably isn't the best place to go to if you are looking for dinner. I got the burger and I seriously felt like I was eating more charcoal than beef. Leslie got the chicken fingers and said they were OK but her side of collard greens were awful. I think the only thing off of our plate that was decent were the tater tots! I would return only for drinking beer and hanging outside. Food wise...there are better dining establishments in Atlanta that you can go to prior to ending your night here. read more

Definitely a place you have to try once. Great beer list and a decent menu. The patio area looks to be huge and a will probably be the main draw to this place once it is finished. I had the eggplant fritters (w/ Rebekah A.) to start and they were exceptional. Very light and crispy. The main course was the their Midway Pub Cheeseburger which fell a little short but I think I was expecting more. We decided to go to this place with my sister-in-law, and right away I check out the reviews on Yelp. I was a bit worried but said lets check it out anyway. What can I say, great patio seating, I never even had to step insided. We had a great waitress who always made sure our beers were never completely empty. Food is bar food, you should come to this place if you want to drink with friends and take in the basic 4 (fried ???, Meat, Wings, Etc..) but the beer selection is great. So they have buckets of cheap beer here. Including my fav, Yuengling! ...what? What do you mean I can't just leave it at that? What the heck do you mean some people won't care about plentiful cheap beer?? Ugh, fine. Since apparently cheap beer by the bucket isn't good enough for SOME people, I'll tell you a bit more about the Midway. Okay, so aside from the bucket o' beer deal, they actually have a pretty good craft beer list. I admit that I come to Midway more when I'm looking to drink cheap but I'm glad both cheap macrobrews and great crafts are options. And the food is pretty good, too. I'd call it above-average for a bar. The wings are tasty. The buffalo is a good choice, while the honey chipotle fell just a bit flat for me. The sweetness and heat were present, but there was a lack of depth of flavor. Personally, I'm big on the chicken and waffles, which is sold as a starter but is quite sufficient for a lighter entree. The other standout for me is the beer and cheese dip. I want them to deliver me a weekly supply, like the milkman would do in the days of yore. I've tried other dishes, like the burgers and the chili. They're all worth trying. I haven't had the vegetarian corn dogs, which I've heard are good, but I am really intrigued. Service is pretty good. Bathrooms are fine. Parking is available in the lot behind the restaurant, which you actually have to access from all the way on Glenwood. Or you could park in the lot across the street, which I try to avoid because it's not as well-lit. The street in front of the bar is possibly not allowed. There are definitely some signs and I know at least one person who tried it and was ticketed as a result. So proceed with caution. And one note of confusion: You can smoke here. Which normally means you can't bring children. But I have seen children here. Maybe you can only smoke after a certain time? And that time is the same as when they kick children out?? I am not entirely sure, but I know that on one visit, a group of adults and their children were seated across from us and I started smelling cigarette smoke later that evening. It was coming from the bar and it was much later, like midnight. Oh, that was the night of the college football national championship, which explains why we were there for literally hours. So, make of that what you will. Or you could call and ask, a thought which just occurred to me but honestly, I don't care enough to find out for sure. To be honest, my priority is the beer buckets. I've been a big fan of the Midway since I first visited back in early May. The highlight of the place (at least for me) is the beer menu. Midway carries a bunch of excellent small-production beers. They also sell the classics, like PBR Tallboys, but I'd definitely recommend hitting a few of the high gravity offerings before going to the domestics. If you're not a beer drinker, the wine list and full bar can always accomodate your needs. We have sampled the Jaeger - it gets the job done! The food at Midway is very good, and very appropriate for the setting. They serve bar food, but with some unique options. I've liked everything that I've tried. I would definitely recommend the Mahi Mahi sandwich with a side of tots. Been a repeat order of mine. Trailer park salsa has also hit my table a couple times. To sum it up, The Midway is definitely a good addition to the Village. Even better now that the patio is open. Go check it out. read more

Been here a few times, always a good time. The first couple times were beer-only visits. This is the only place my non-drinker friend will drink. She likes the cherry beer. I wasn't too fond of it but, hey, if it'll get her to a bar... My last time I ordered food, fries and corn dogs. The fries come with 3 different dipping sauces. There are like 5 to 7 to choose from. You can pick either all beer or veggie corn dogs. I tried to get 2 beef and 2 veggie but wasn't allow to split them. Beef was awesome though. The servers are always super friendly. After my BF was told that they had more vegan options I went up there for food and drinks, and it was okay. I got the veggie burger but it was a mash-up of vegetables formed into a patty. Unfortunately my mushroom hating self despised the amount of mushrooms used in the recipe. But it was okay, not Manuel's good, but if you like mushrooms you may love this. As many have said, the chicken fingers here are quite possibly the best in Atlanta (only Roasters comes close). That menu item alone has brought me back to Midway three times now. All three times I've had very good service and I've also been introduced to one of my new favorite brews (Longboard) thanks to my server. The smoking is a bit annoying, but it kind of comes with the territory. They have lots of board games, which is a big plus for a dork like myself. Last night I met up with some friends for dinner at the pub. The service was pretty good and it was nice to enjoy the 70F weather in middle of January. Anyway, the beer selection is quite good and they had a proper Belgian on draft. The food choices will appease many, expect those who are vegan. Good thing is that they have plenty of salads--which are huge btw--and the chili is actually vegan too. Overall, you can have a great dining experience on the patio. Inside, however, there is a good amount of cigarette smoke and noise from the TVs and the folks. If you are not down with this, make sure you pick a nice day for your adventure. This place kind of just sucks, and I'm the idiot that keeps going back to give it another try. I've been going there for years and I do remember a time 4+ years ago that the food was good and the waitstaff paid attention to you, but those days are long gone. I was just there last night with a group and, in typical Midway fashion, waited a long time to be served both food and drink (this is the kind of place where you'd want to be strategic about ordering everything as fast as you can track your server down because the likelihood of them coming back to check up is very slim). Their tiki bar was open, so we asked the server about ordering tiki drinks to have with food. She didn't know how that worked and tried to dissuade us because it wasn't part of her section. I felt bad for her at this point because she seemed really uninformed and was trying to get us to like her. Her explanation implied that we "shouldn't" order tiki drinks to have on the patio, but we also can't order food if we decided to sit at the tiki bar tables. So I ordered the smoked chicken wings ($10). The wings come out and they're clearly just fried, not smoked, which is another menu item. Those of us who ordered the smoked wings (which were so dry it was reminiscent of the turkey from Christmas Vacation) just ate them because, again, trying to find your server and explain you were given the wrong thing would add another 45 minutes to an already unpleasant experience. When we finally got the checks, we were charged with the smoked wings ($2 more than the fried ones). We explained it to the server who became really defensive and said "just so you know the kitchen says they gave you smoked wings, and they actually look and taste the same as the other ones." So...you're telling me you're charging TEN DOLLARS FOR SIX WINGS THAT TASTE THE SAME AS EIGHT DOLLAR WINGS? She did the right thing and comped one of the orders for us and informed us that WE were the ones who had done the wrong thing in this situation. Anyway, this might actually be the straw that broke the camel's back with Midway and I really have no intention of returning. The service is always bad and I can't even explain how atrocious those wings were. read more

We've been here a few times for Trivia on Tuesday which has always been really fun. It starts at 8pm and goes until 10:30pm or so. My favorite item on the menu is their fish and chips. It has a great batter (I think guiness?) and has a nice crunch to it. You get two large pieces of fish, my wife and I tend to share it. We've tried a few sandwiches also, which were excellent as well. Their beer list is great. a wide variety and decent prices depending on the brew. When playing trivia, we usually just get a bucket of PBR and drink on that for the game. My bill yesterday was $23 for the bucket and fish and chips. So not too bad. Our server was decent and apologized for not coming by often. It's a bar, you just have to wave them down so I wasnt upset about it. They have a lot of tables per server, she was taking care of the entire patio and tables on the inside as well. I like that you can smoke in here. So beware if you dont. Whenever we come down here I always dream of moving in the neighborhood. Reminds me of home. read more

Friends, games, and a grilled cheese - these are the reasons I love the Midway. It's a convenient and easy place for my friends and I to meet up, whether inside our outdoors, and I love that they have all those games to play since that is a major past-time of ours. Unfortunately, most of the games are missing at least a piece or two - perhaps they should have someone go through them all every now and then and take out or replace the games that have integral pieces missing? Finally, the best thing about the Midway: their grilled cheese sandwich! Easily the best I have ever had (and their cole slaw that I got as a side was delicious as well) Midway! Been here a couple of times and I dig it.. great neighborhood joint to hang out at. Lots of regulars which makes noobies feel a little like we aren't in the in-crowd but whatevs. Love the huge porch and can picture myself on it when its not 40 degrees and raining. Decent beer selection. I really like their green chicken chili- it's a bit thicker than I prefer but I love the pulled chicken and heat that the chili packs. The fries and tots are on point. The Guinness battered chicken fingers worked out my hangover but I wasn't the biggest fan. The thickly battered "finger" gave me flash backs of Chili's chicken fingers circa 1997. I need to go and try some more but I definitely recommend the chili. All in all a great bar to hang out at, watch a game or people, and eat an ok bar meal. read more

We were pretty excited when Midway open to have a place with such a big patio, however the 3 times that we have been there have all been pretty bad. I'm not sure if people thing it's cool to give bad service and put out over fried food? But Midway does both. It seems like the menu was put together with some care as was the design of the bar, and then the staff got a hold of it and turned it into every other mid-30s run establishment in the city (see Graveyard Tavern, Highlander, etc.). If you are looking for a meal in the area try The Earl, and for a patio try the Holy Taco, both not more than 100 yards away. read more

Food sucks for the most part. Beer list is AMAZING. Seriously, I don't know who their buyer is but they continue to totally floor me on this beer list. Seasonal rotating taps to your heart's content. Right now, they have SEVERAL high-gravity pumpkin ales. I wanna dry hump their beer list. And I might. I just might. If you have to order food, because you're drunk and starving, go for the fried chicken sandwich. It's weird because it's the only thing on their menu really worth getting, but it is REALLY worth getting. Juicy chicken, perfectly crisp outside- no sogginess at all. Slaw on top. Whole wheat bun (which surprisingly does make you feel slightly less guilty about the whole experience). There is also a fried chicken dinner, and you can't go wrong with that one either. Recommended side(s). I personally like the green beans but always have to order them "light on the oil." If you don't they will come out swimming in it. Tots. Nuff said. Fuck Napoleon Dynamite, I liked them before that teen craze. And no, I will not vote for Pedro, get that t-shirt out of my face. I've been here a fair amount and service is never great. Where service is lacking, price, beer selection, and the patio generally make up for it. But that all changed Sunday. I got there at 1:30. The place was not busy. A bunch of people had just left. We sat down and waited. 15 minutes later, a girl brings us menus and tells us that our server will be by to take our orders. 10 minutes after that, our server shows up and takes drink orders and tells us, "you need to hurry up and order food". WTF?! So we order. And we wait. And I tried to get his attention and he ignored us even though he had to walk right by us. And I tried to get the other server's attention and she ignored us. After 40 minutes of sitting there with no water, no food, and no attention, we left. I tried to get the attention of the wait staff, but they ignored me. Even when I walked right past our server as we left, he ignored me. There are other places with patios and good beer selections who actually pay attention to customers. Everytime we're in EAV, we end up here, some way, some how... The atmosphere... Part neighborhood bar, part sports pub, and part hangout to kick off the night... Consider it a well lit, well-to-do dive. The crowd... Mostly local EAV, lots of small groups, fairly easy to talk to, if at the bar. Mostly 20s, some 30s, rarely 40s... The bartenders... Usually friendly, fairly attentive, quick to fix any issues. No complaints here. The food... Your typical bar fare -- somewhat salty and overpriced. Nothing distinctive but nothing terrible either. Strictly for late night eats. The drinks... About 8-10 choices on draft (including some interesting high gravity ones), and the rest are available in bottles. PBR for the younger folks. I really enjoy coming here. There's always a spot to sit but it's never empty either. You can get a cheap PBR tall boy or I can get a nice meal and a seasonal draft. My boyfriend loves the coffee stouts and they will always brew me a fresh batch of coffee I can put a shot of bailey's in for a night cap. On New years we walked in literally minutes from the countdown and before even sitting down we were handed complimentary champagne. Trivia is a little weird because they don't use the typical trivia you find in other bars and the emcee talks ALOT. people all around us were joking about it too- it wasn't just us who thought that. We've had to send food back once because it wasn't hot enough. we always love the french fries though. They had a craft fair here for Christmas that I got to participate and sell at that benefited the neighborhood, I really hope they do that again I met a lot of cool people and was successful selling my art. This is my new favorite place in East Atlanta (sorry Glenwood!). I love the huge patio and I am a big fan of the dart board (even though I suck). I like bars that have activity, such as the foosball table. The first time I went to Midway, it was during one of the horrific storms post-tornado. The power went out and the wind was howling--I thought for sure we were in for another tornado. The bartenders were nice and easy to talk with and the excitement of a power outage combined with beer & darts probably made helped make it my new fav. place. The food is average. Do NOT get the steak salad. It was my fault for getting a salad at a bar, though. The steak had no flavor. The wings are good. The chix fingers are huge although they sadly do not taste as good as they look. My husband raved about the chili and he is also a fan of one of the dips on their menu. Overall, great place to DRINK beer, average place to eat. I would say four stars for drinking and three for food. Oh, p.s.--the brunch is average, too. read more

I have been a longtime fan of this place. I have been a victim of some slow service but really appreciate their good beer selection and options for me and vegatarianish wife. I'll keep going back regardless because I like playing board games til late points in the evening. Here's a secret that many people don't take advantage of: Saturday AND Sunday Brunch. It's super cheap and the patio makes it well worth it. If you can deal with the smoking at both bar and patio, its a nice place to spend a lazy afternoon. I love Midway! One of my favorite laid back patios in this city. And best part is, it's big and its in East Atlanta, so you can *almost* always find a seat. Food is just excellent. This is one of my fav brunch spots bc I don't have to wait a million hours on a Saturday and its GOOD. I recommend anything with a biscuit, and their fish n chips...ugh. So good. Seriously, seriously good fries. I am a fry slut. Also, their Allagash queso is un-f-ing-believable. I'm not like a basic bitch that queso everywhere I go, but this cheese sauce is the best I've ever had. I need to know what they're putting in there... I'm actually not a fan of their specialty cocktails. I've had a few, and they're always too sweet and a little unbalanced. But they have a great beer list and they can certainly handle a gin and soda. The service is very hit or miss. I've had excellent service, while some waiters just look like they want to kill themselves. But, you can't beat that patio atmosphere. And its got a great night time vibe! read more
