We were so hungry and so excited to try this interesting menu to lunch. Food was bland. We tried 3 plates and shared. The fries were good. The steak salad was boring and mid, lacked dressing a depth. The fried green tomato BLT was so disappointing - such little flavor for something that had great potential. The "smashburger" was not a smash burger at all. Nothing smashed about the patty and certainly not smashing with flavor. House made chips are usually my fav, these were bland like the rest. Again, nothing was bad just not a lot of flavor in any of the items. The burger should be re-named. The salad could improve with dressing. And the BLT, maybe ditch the fried green tomato if you're not going to do it well. I think a loaded run of the mill BLT would have been good, but removing the fried tomato would have taken out 1/3 of the substance intended for the meal. Sadly I wouldn't go back, the dishes all felt bland and lackluster. Presentation was also fine. The staff was okay, not rude - but distracted in conversations around prepping for the later part of the day. I know since we heard all of the conversations. no drink refills offered. The Mill is now open off of Edwards Mill Road! Located in the old Edwards Mill Bar and Grill space, this new restaurant from the Urban Food Group is doing a lot of things right. Dark woods, classic bar, along with a large side patio, the Mill offers up comfort food that's spun up a bit. I tried the wood-fired wings (excellent) which were brushed in honey along with their 1/2 lb. Mill burger which featured great beef, bibb lettuce and melty cheese. It was Saturday around 5pm and we wanted to try out the re-vamped Mill. Enroute we call to see if they could accommodate a party of 7, and after the hostess checked with the manager, they said yes if you can make it in the next 10 minutes. We made it and they seated us in the dining area in the back near the patio. Surprisingly, there were only 5 other tables occupied and plenty of seating available. During our 1.5 hour dinner, the place never did pack out, so I'm not sure why it was so difficult to accept a party of 7 at 5:30pm. Moving on, our server was polite and helpful, and we got our drinks / apps. The Buffalo Wings and Onion Rings were flavorful and we devoured them quickly. Next we ventured to the Nachos, and here is where things started going South...they were extremely bland! Even the queso had no real taste to it. We asked for salsa, and they had none. We ordered the Chicken Pot Pie and Steak Frites as well, but we were left disappointed. The Pot Pie was bland too with a floppy undercooked crust. The Steak Frites came out somewhat cold. The ambience is a bit high end for what was traditionally a neighborhood bar and grill. That being said, don't go here expecting a sports bar and grill like the older versions of the restaurant. The staff is friendly and the place is clean. Plenty of parking outside as well. Overall, a meh experience...but perhaps I will give the bar side a try next time. read more

BLUF: You'll be pretty satisfied with whatever you order. Been to The Mill twice. The first time I had to get the Mill Burger, monster-fied. Boosting one pound of burger I personally had a blast! Delicious! Not many places outside of a fast food joint will do a pound burger. Second visit. Their menu is full of attractive food options and we missed out on ordering their onion rings. We watched other tables order the fish and chips and pork chops and they both looked visually enticing. In addition to the fish and chips and onion rings, we got their vegetarian shepard's pie and the mac and cheese again. The fish was fried very well, nice and crispy all over. The pie, my opinion, it was missing the meat. Yes, it is advertised as vegetarian, but it was missing some flavor balance. Even without meat the pie was missing some acidity, some more tomatoes or tomato paste could have helped. It was dry with the veggies and farro, a creamy/cheesy element inside could have helped being that it's vegetarian and not vegan, cheese isn't a no-no. Had dinner here with friends the other night and it has vastly improved from the restaurant it used to be before new ownership. We began with the charcuterie board and it was delicious. We moved on to our mains and I had the pork chop with broccolini and creamed spinach. Be warned, they up-charge you to swap out side dishes even when you have an allergy to the ingredient in the dish. This is not the most inclusive dining protocol I've ever experienced. Our server was fantastic and attentive and the hostess was kind and promptly greeted and seated us based on our reservations. However they recently changed the recipe, it is now only sub par. Not bad but not as good as the original recipe. It now comes with mashed potatoes and broccoli and not the cheese grits and carrots. My fiancé and I had a really great first experience at the Mill. First thing you notice walking in is just how large this space is. We had a reservation but went with a high-top in the bar area (this place is huge) instead. Our server Drew was great; he was attentive, kind and knowledgeable about the menu. We didn't order any cocktails so I can't speak to their quality but they have a broad selection of their own. Our starter was the Salmon tartare. This was the only glaring weak spot in the evening. The salmon tasted good, but is was piled on top of what tasted like a stale piece of cornbread, so you had to vigorously cut it with a butter knife. Not what we were expecting. As for the main course, we got the NY Strip and Trout and both were on point and cooked to our liking. I would recommend the Mill for anyone looking for a casual / if slightly upscale dinner, and given the large space, it's easy to make this a last minute choice if you don't have a reservation. Came here recently. It wasn't crowded so the service was fine. It's a nice space overall- spacious with enough light. The food however was SO SALTY. All the dishes were so over seasoned that I could not really eat much of the dish. The menu is also overpriced for the type and quality of the food. I was surprised to have spent so much for dinner- cost didn't match our eating experience at all. Disappointed because we live close by and would have loved to want to return. I had eaten at the Mill with some friends for a birthday party. I normally dont write reviews but I was really disappointed. I had ordered the small caesar salad. When it came the lettuce stalks were brown and the leaves at the end were withered. The first thing I though of was that no self respecting chef would let this out to a customer. They redid it for me. Later on I got the bill. I had sticker shock at the wine, one glass of house cabernet was $15.00. On top of that, beware, they add a service charge for using credit cards. I had a talk with the manager on my way out and he apologized about the lettuce and said wine was expensive. I didn't get any feeling at all the he was willing to make any sort of concession on the bill. As a matter of fact, he didn't seem to care at all. So I told him that I and some of my friends would not be coming back. Looking at some of the reviews here, not taking anything off a bill based on a complaint seems to be the way they work.
