Taking home a lot of sweets.
    Elizabeth S.

Another fabulous visit! Our family, visiting from the south of France, stopped into The Model Bakery in Saint Helena, and it was a savory and sweet experience. We were all captivated by the inviting ambiance and the tempting displays. My family felt the same way and stated that they felt they back in France . They (we all) fell in love with the English muffins, the sandwiches, and the drinks--each bite was a taste of perfection. We ended up sitting down for lunch, and every item we ordered exceeded our expectations. If we lived closer to the model bakery, we would be regulars every day until next time. Note: The service was incredibly welcoming and friendly.

I can't judge this place on any of its baked goods aside from the english muffin, but the english muffin is all you really need. We ordered one with sausage and egg and it was perfectly griddled with a really amazing chipotle sauce to really round out the whole sandwich. We also got a 6 pack of english muffins to go and had amazing breakfasts that entire week. I wish I bought more to stick in the freezer! The atmosphere was so cozy and quaint and the perfect way to start a slow morning before exploring the rest of St Helena. Model Bakery will forever be a go to spot for me now whenever I'm in the area.

Known for their English muffins, had to try their original breakfast sandwich. I'd say it was a very solid sandwich filled with plenty of egg, cheese and Canadian bacon. The English muffin itself was good and crispy in the outside. Not sure how often I'd want to pay upwards of $10 for this. The other baked goods to me were passable (brownie, wedding cookie, lemon loaf poppy cake). No bathrooms available and street parking.

I don't know about their other baked goods but what I can say is their English muffins are one of the best I've had. The crust wi the cornmeal was excellent and the inside was super soft and airy. I'd come back just for them.

I tried the original breakfast sandwich and I didn't like it. The English muffin on it was good though. I preferred the breakfast smashburger instead. The chorizo wrap was good but next time I want to try their model wrap and their model biscuit breakfast sandwich. Service was fast. The line went by fast.

Cute cafe and bakery in DT Sonoma. This place was buzzing in the late afternoon. We popped in for some coffee and a bite to eat. Service was pretty quick at the counter and I had to go for the slice of veggie pizza and a coffee. A bit pricier which we expected being in this area but we found a small corner table to sit and relax for the time being. They warmed up my pizza and I thought it was quite tasty. They had some good looking pastries but nothing GF for my hubby. Will definitely come back!

Every time I visit this place, I always end up bringing some bread home. It's my kids' favorite bakery -- they absolutely love it! Even though it's quite far from where I live, I never miss a chance to stop by whenever I visit my sister. The warm interior reflects the shop's long-standing tradition.

Great bakery! Stopped in to grab a quick sweet treat and ended up grabbing a breakfast sandwich as well. The ginger molasses cookie is absolutely to die for and the English muffin is definitely worth the hype in my opinion. Coming from NYC where amazing bakeries are countless I have very high standards however model bakery definitely lived up to them and I would suggest anyone in the area pop in for a sweet treat or a breakfast or lunch.

This place is an institution and we had to make a visit. We went early on a Saturday and it was already very busy. We managed to get a table on the patio which was okay - hard to move around the restaurant with how busy it was as. Wish it was a bit more laid back - peaceful but it's popular for a reason. We both had breakfast sandwiches and black coffees. The biscuit was great and the bacon portion was generous. That was good because the prices were a bit high - that's why I knocked off a star.

Can never go wrong with this place! A must every time I'm passing through for work. The chocolate croissants are my fave. Plus, look at the size of this thing!

We came here twice during our weekend trip. Nice selection of savory dishes for breakfast and the cookies were great too! Service is ok in that they want to help! The set up for ordering is confusing- yes the line starts on the far right side but you order drinks and menu food at the register. Can only order/pick pastries at the pastry counter. One star off for consistently not preparing my italian soda based on number of pumps I asked for. One was too sweet (standard is 4-5pumps but he wasn't sure.) the other was not enough syrup. Not a huge deal because the food is lovely and folks who work here are very kind. Cute inside with cafe tables that are first come, first served so if you want to sit after ordering, have someone in your group get the table while you wait in line to order.

Best cappuccino in town, by far. Delicious breakfast sandwiches on fresh English muffins and the service is always friendly and speedy.

We enjoyed both their drip coffee and their espresso as well as one of their cinnamon buns. While we sat there in this pristine environment it was obvious to us that this location had emerged as a favorite in the community as we saw kids on their way to school and multigenerational families enjoying their morning there. So next time we're in town know that we'll be enjoying Sam's General Store.

When you stick out like a sore thumb, sometimes it's a sign that you've stepped into a local's place, not a tourist trap. Sam's General Store is named after the man who started the Gold Rush. They're an artisanal cafe serving specialty coffee and matcha drinks, pastries (from Starter Bakery), breakfast bites, salads, and sandwiches. Their OG location is in Calistoga and their St. Helena location opened in 2025. Online ordering available. D R I N K S * Iced Latte ($6) w/ oat milk (+85 cents) - Add vanilla cold foam + whipped cream (+$1) - Request half-caffeine I couldn't find a small business in Napa Valley that offers a Einspänner but Sam's offers the components so you can make one. The latte was smooth and roasty with the cold foam adding a creamy sweetness and the whipped cream an extra later of richness. Pretty solid. * Iced Strawberry Matcha Latte w/ strawberry foam, extra shot of matcha ($9.25) - Batched made, not hand-whisked - Cannot adjust sweetness It looks nothing like the layered drink on their website and IG. Also, the color was dull, so either the matcha was oxidized or it's poor quality. Sadly, it tasted like a Crumbl cookie in liquid form. Even with the extra shot of matcha, there was no matcha flavor and tasted like an incredibly sweet strawberry milk. I hate wasting money but we tossed it. * NY Lox & Bagel w/ gravlax salmon, cream cheese, pickled red onions, cucumbers & capers ($17) - Served open-faced, no mods available - Bagels are flown in weekly from NY but shop/brand is not specified Deliciously chewy, lightly toasted plain bagel layered with rich, creamy schmear and silky, buttery lox. The fresh tang and crunch from the pickled red onions and pickled cucumbers balanced everything perfectly, adding brightness to each bite. Even on a weekday, all the indoor seating was taken; looks to be a regular gathering place for locals. Front patio and sidewalk seating. Free WiFi. Overall, cute cafe...if you're visiting from a city with great matcha - stick with their coffee!

Unfortunately, my experience fell short in a few meaningful ways. I ordered a lavender coffee latte, which I was really looking forward to, but it lacked flavor and was disappointing enough that I chose not to purchase anything further. That alone might not have stopped me from returning, but what followed did. Knowing European culture, and especially Parisian cafés, are often very dog-friendly, and given Napa's well-known dog-loving atmosphere, I felt comfortable bringing my dog, who is a service animal. I was immediately asked to leave because only service animals are allowed, with the assumption made that my dog was not one. While he is in fact a service animal, the interaction left me feeling unwelcome and uncomfortable. There was no curiosity or neutral clarification... just an assumption and a request to leave. That moment really deflated the excitement I had walking in. Between the coffee experience and feeling unwelcome, I decided not to stay as long as planned or purchase anything further. I'm glad to see that others have had better experiences here, and the pastries certainly look lovely. I suppose those interested should trust other reviewers on that front. Unfortunately, based on my experience, I won't be returning.
