My husband & I were heading to Costco, and I know better than to shop on an empty stomach. We were at the light and looked over and spotted The Modern Churro. I checked the menu quickly before the light changed and found that it was Cuban cuisine (@lissethf_ and @yvette_eclectic). I ordered the Cuban sandwich & Mario order the Vaca Frita. DELICIOUS! I also witnessed the orders of churros and desserts and coffees others were ordering and was so impressed with it all! I am so glad this little gem is in Vista. The owner spoke with us and shared that he is Cuban and his wife is Mexican so they plan to expand their menu with a torta and maybe a few breakfast items because of the coffee. We will be back!!! Delicious! Also a huge plus that they are open late for those - after you put the kids down, mama time cravings! They are so kind which makes the experience so much better. I tried the long ones and the little pieces both are great and the dulce de leche sauce was the best. Would love a strawberry sauce too but maybe that's just me. Overall definitely recommend! Heard they were closing and was DEVASTATED. the Cuban sandwiches made me fall in love with pickles and ham for the first time in my life. Would being my kids here every chance I got. Best churros I've ever had, I do t really like churros but these are different. They don't taste like old oil. I'm am definitely hooked!

I was pleasantly surprised with the food. We had the queso birria tacos and just the regular birria tacos and both super tasty. We had the churros as well and they were perfect for our taste. The pricing is reasonable in my opinion. We will definitely be back! read more

The churros here are the star! I especially like the Mexican cart version - thin and crispy. This review gets 4 stars because on my second visit I order the classic Cuban sandwich. Unfortunately it fell short. My experience is that the sandwich should be pressed and the bread crispy like a panini. Juicy on the inside. It was served more like a sub sandwich and the pork was dry. I'll give it another try... a good Cuban sandwich is needed in Vista. Hope they make a few minor changes to make it a classic! read more

This is such a hidden gem! We saw this place on our way home from our son's school so we stopped for a treat. There's a few tables outside, but it's more of a grab and go kind of little place. The owner Omar is Cuban, and he's just the nicest guy! He makes the best Cubano sandwiches we've ever tried in SD. They have a variety of coffee drinks available, and the churros are made fresh and crispy! We loved the churro sundae too, you can choose whatever toppings you'd like! This will definitely be a regular place for after-school treats from now on! read more

The menu has changed, it's taco shop type tacos, burritos and tortas. But the churros are the same and they are SO GOOD! We recently had a party and had a large order of churros delivered. They were perfect and fresh and all of our guests raved about them. read more

Genuinely some of the best churros I've ever had. I ordered the churro bites, which came with a dipping sauce (I got caramel). I also got the Cuban sandwich but substituted the meat with plantains (I know, but believe me, it was still delicious). The sandwich was amazing: hot, fresh, flavorful...I can go on. Their fries were extremely delicious and fresh too. I am excited to come back and maybe try some new items!! I hope that in the future, they can add meatless/vegetarian items. While I don't expect this of any restaurant, it would definitely expand their demographic!! Service was friendly and very quick. The place is small, but it's clean and very modern. Stopped in today for the first time because we were in the area. Will come back with a bigger appetite next time, oh yes, there will definitely be a next time! We tried the churro bites with chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, and the filled churros. Both were great! The very nice employees gave us free samples of the horchata and coconut agua frescas, delicious! Next time definitely getting a Cuban sandwich! So glad I found this place! The tacos are so savory and perfect, I cant even describe how incredible they tasted. Not just the flavor, but the texture of the tender meat with the crispy edged tortilla... Same with the desserts- the plantain was perfectly cooked and the churros reminded me of home. Sorry not sorry First and foremost this little shop was supper cute. But it was very hot inside the shop and not welcoming. Service was mid. But let me tell you about these churros, it's a NO for me. I went in high expectations only to be let down as I bit in to my first churro it was all raw dough. The second one was all raw dough. The third one was all raw dough and I Believe they added a freebie which was very nice of them but that one too was all raw dough. The out side of the churro was not gold it was more of a rust copper color so with that being said you guessed it tasted a bit sour do you it being singed! The sugar on the churro can most definitely give you diabetes those churros had clumps!! Soo hopefully this review helps all the churros cravers out there. Thanks read more

Ordered the Mexican Cart Churros, Filled Churros (one each: Nutella, sweet cream cheese and dulce de leche), Cuban Sandwich, Sweet Plantains and Fries ($40 total pre-tip). Churros: fresh and crispy on the outside, chewy and satisfying on the inside. Nutella filled was a kid favorite, adults preferred the OG. Sandwich: delicious! All the flavors melded well and the bread was nicely toasted and smooshed. Plantains: Great sweet to complement the sandwich. This was an extra side order, but the sandwich also came with a couple small chunks. Fries: great fries. Reminds me of Jollibee fries.
