PLEASE get the cake batter ice cream from The Mosquito. I'm normally more of a chocolate/salted caramel ice cream eater but for some reason I was gravitating towards the cake batter the other day. Ice cream stand right off of the highway that has a huge variety of delicious homemade ice cream They do have a few seats "inside", but the place is like a shack so sitting "inside" really just means "in the shade" Ice cream comes out extremely quickly I got the caramel pretzel ice cram and it was great! The only marks it got were that some of the pretzel bits were stale. Also have chocolate dipped cones! Pardon the pun but I don't know what the buzz is about this place. For starters, they don't make their own ice cream, the staff were snooty and slow moving, and seemed to want to get back to texting their friends on their cell phones. Maybe my review is tainted by the fact that it was a 90 degree, very humid day and I asked for a cup of water with my order. The server replied "we are not allowed to give out water." I have heard for years about this place for ice cream. Now, I will tell you I'm a snob with ice cream. I was skeptical and didn't go the first couple of times my hubby and son went. This is such a great place to get ice cream! They are seasonal, like most in the area are, but during the peak of the season, they are open 11am to 11pm! There are obviously peak times for business, especially when camp counselors get a chance to get away! Or families are headed home from boating or a beach day. With so many summer rentals nearby, it's the perfect after dinner activity. We went twice in a matter of 5 days. The first time was late evening 9:30ish and it had a line of about 7 ahead of us. That's not bad. I've seen it MUCH longer! They are quite efficient at keeping the line moving smoothly though... hopefully it's not tooo crazy hot and humid, nor a mosquito laden night, though! There is plenty of outside seating, ...in the shade or sun, (depending upon the time of day!) They also have a screened in area with a few tables and chairs. I love the character and colors of the place... it's always keep neat and tidy, but feels awesomely campy! My go to flavor is Red Raspberry Revolution, but they have sooo many choices! read more

The only downside is that the place lives up to its name: If you arrive at dusk or afterwards, you will be absolutely DEVOURED by mosquitos as you wait in line. So, dip yourself in a vat of Off! There are a good number of ice cream places in the Naples/Raymond area, and I've had a chance to sample many of them. The Mosquito is about as good as it gets. They have a HUGE selection of ice creams, including some flavors that are a bit unusual. Milky Way, Peanut Butter Iditarod and Bear Claw were very popular. Service is quick and responsive. The place is super clean and the menus are easy to read and understand. The only downside is that the place lives up to its name: sit outside and expect to be eaten alive. There is a screened in area however that you can take shelter in. read more

The ice cream is DELICIOUS, so it is very disappointing that staff are choosing NOT to wear gloves when scooping (holding your BARE cone in their BARE hand), and are only wearing bandanas as a face covering, not a mask. There are orange road cones set up 6 feet apart to indicate where to stand, but no one is directing customers, so they disregard the cones and get way too close. And most of the customers are not wearing masks. GREAT ice cream, but not willing to risk getting Coronavirus for it. read more

YES! Love it here. BIG gigantic portions with their own HOMEMADE ice cream...you can't beat it. I had the brownie sundae with cookie dough ice cream, which only came in one size and it was way too big, but I took one for the team. Very popular with tourists and locals, lines can get long....but IT IS WORTH IT. It's named the Mosquito because of the mosquito sculpture in the back of the building....and um, just being in a wooded area, you'll get a few bites...but really who cares when you're eating ice cream! We have been coming to the Lake District for many years to visit our kids at camp and have tried many ice cream places over the years. The Mosquito is clearly one of the better ones. Although there is a large line, it moves really fast (for Maine, especially). There is a large collection of flavors and sizes. The ice cream is not made on premises, but is "made for us" at an outside factory. Doesn't matter, tastes good. The biggest negative is the parking lot, where you wait and where you sit. It has been a dry summer, and the dust was at times overwhelming. A little grass and a few picnic tables would be a plus. read more
