I had a cracked exhaust manifold replaced on my girlfriend's car a few months ago, but some exhaust fumes are still getting inside the car. The shop where I had the work done at rechecked everything and said there was no leak on the exhaust system. I came here for a second opinion. I called and explained the issue, and the person on the phone said to come by anytime and he'd take a look. I live very close and went right over. I met Jake who was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was well aware of the common exhaust issues on this model of car. He inspected the exhaust system, and also used a listening device under the hood. He concurred that there was no leak in the exhaust system. He said the problem could possibly be a blocked catalytic converter, but that the car would probably be running a lot rougher. While we were chatting with the car still running and the hood open, we saw some smoke coming out. He said whatever was causing that was probably the issue. They are a muffler and exhaust shop, not a full mechanic shop, so I didn't expect him to investigate any further. (I later discovered that the engine side of the PCV value hose was cracked and that's where the leak was coming from). I was only here briefly, but had a very good experience. Stopped by yesterday around 4:20 to ask if they could install a catalytic converter for me. I know they close at 5, so I wasn't expecting them to do it right then and there. I was just trying to see if it was something they could do and make an appointment if needed. I walked in, said hello and asked if they could install the cat I brought with me. The guy just looked at me and said "no." I asked if there was a reason and he said they were booked for the month, then basically ended the conversation with "okay bye." Being booked isn't the problem at all. I completely understand if you don't have time to take on more work. It was just the way the whole interaction was handled. He could've simply said "sorry man, we're currently booked for the month" and I would've said no problem and left. I have a 1989 F350 Ford truck that was having a rattle underneath. Turns out it was the catalytic converter. I met a friend a few years ago via Instagram who lives in South Carolina and he messaged me about The Muffler Man. At one time both of us owned '68 Mustang Coupe's and he now has a '65 Fastback and I have a '72 Camaro. With that said, I was in the area for a business mtg. and stopped by in the afternoon to see the shop in-person and talk with them because I had a number of muffler-related questions. Lee, the owner, helped me with specific headers to buy (looking for something that would drop right in) and we went over X-pipe vs. H-pipe, and discussed the other questions on my list. When I left, the next day I called two header manufacturers to verify their fit, availability, pricing, etc. Once I had that information, I called Lee back to schedule an appointment for the following week. Initially he said it would take 2.5 days to complete so I planned accordingly. Lee actually finished in less than two days. Along the way, he fixed/tidied up a few other things for me during the installation which I greatly appreciated. The car sounds significantly different compared to my Mustang. It took me a few drives to get used to it and I love it. Same mufflers on both cars, Flowmaster Super 44's, the difference being I didn't change the headers on the Mustang. I wouldn't hesitate to go back to see Lee again and mind you, he's a solid hour from my house. Very friendly, professional, and definitely knows what he's doing. Brought my Crown Vic in twice, the first time was to change my OEM mufflers for an aftermarket muffler, then to get a custom cat-back installed. The quality of their work both times were great. Second time I've come to Muffler Man. First time I came for a fouled catalytic converter after an engine failed (and replaced) and this time to have a broken exhaust pipe welded to the silencer. Each time I've come away appreciative of the great value of their quality work. I'd refer any family or friend to them. read more

My check engine light for my Nissan Versa went on just before my registration was due and the smog check was complete. Needless to say I failed my SMOG Check. I went to a few places and called others and I was being quoted $2500+ for parts alone. I called the Muffler Man and he quoted me $750 for the front catalytic converter which other stores quoted $1800 for the same part. The reason why he can do it like this is because he utilizes the factory parts (connectors) that were installed on the original car when it was assembled in the factory and welds the catalytic converter inline with the existing parts. He diagnosed that I had no leaks and that the front catalytic converter was the only one that needed to be replaced. The error code I received was 420 (which is a general code meaning that the catalytic converter in not efficient). It doesn't mean the whole thing needs to be replaced. When the front catalytic converter starts to go bad the emissions pass by the O2 sensor and results in an error code. (I am generalizing but, you get the idea). Once the front goes bad the emissions and other crap go down the line and end up destroying the second catalytic converter. (Most shops will try to tell you it is one whole piece that comes together (which technically it is made that way) and will convince you that you need to replace both, including the O2 sensor but the cutting and welding inline allows any part to be replaced separately without doing the whole unit). For those who know nothing about cars this scare tactic works well resulting in shops up selling unnecessary parts and customers buying more than they need to fix the problem. If you haven't figured it out by now, you can trust LEE and he will NOT sell you something you DON'T NEED. I walked in at 4pm, he was done by 420 (just kidding), 440pm. I put in an aftermarket exhaust system on my 2020 Accord and while it didn't bother me at first, a recent road trip to Vegas made me notice how bad the droning could get at certain RPMs. When I got back, I knew that I should probably do something about it. Took my car to Muffler Man and told them that I was looking for a resonator for drone. He took a quick look under my car, figured out what resonator I needed and ordered it.
