This coffee shop is hard to find. My GPS and Google Maps just directed me to a large mall without any further directions. Mall has no directory. I had to circle the mall a few times before I found it hidden behind a building column or stairwell. When you go into the coffee shop, it is like you walked into a university library. No one is talking, just studying. Even the shop staff is quiet, and you have to order via an ordering display. My cappucino was small and expensive. The staff looked puzzled when I asked to fill it in my coffee thermos. They added a lot more milk, but only filled my thermos halfway. Not a real comfortable place unless you're a student. I'm a fan of The Mugs and have been to every one of their locations (Diamond Bar, Fullerton, and previously Westminster before that one closed) so I was excited when I saw that they were opening a location in Irvine in the former Sootha Coffee location. Compared to the locations in Diamond Bar and Fullerton, this one is much smaller. Since this location is new, they don't seem to have the holiday drinks from their other locations on the menu yet probably to not overwhelm the employees. read more

Place was cute and from reviews I decided to stop by, but the service was not great. And the drinks were very bland, ordered 3 drinks and they were lukewarm. Hot chocolate tasted like instant hot chocolate powder, but tasted even worse because it seemed watered down. Literally could barely taste any chocolate. Besides two hot chocolates there was also a chai latte that was also lacking flavor and very bland. Tipped after ordering and they were very rude. I didn't hear my name called so I went up and the drinks had been on the counter, guy barista seemed bothered I asked if it was my order. Also upset that I asked to make sure the one with almond milk was the one I was pointing to. Just overall rude, expect for a girl at the front who was nice. Would not come back here!! read more

I've been here twice just for the siracha chicken croffle. This is the best thing ever, nice and crispy, fresh and I love the side of potato chips. I also got an iced matcha with a shot of espresso , this is the best (if not one of the best) dirty matchas I've tried in Orange County. The ham and cheese sandwich was okay, It's a little bit sweet tease. The service is okay. Most of their customers are students. And it was full. They have a free water for the customers at the water section. The water in the glass beverage dispenser was only ice left. My son was thirsty and he needs to drink some water. I mentioned to one of the person who is at the cashier ( a guy) today, at 4:30PM ( on Saturday/ , Oct 5, 2024) I said, there is no Water there. And he just said really? And he checked to see if there's any water there. Unfortunately, he didn't refill the water right away. He backed to the cashier section and too busy cleaning the coffee section area instead refill the water. So , as soon we saw him backed to the cashier section. we left . Unbelievable. The coffee is good, the ambiance is nice to study but apparently there is no rules to tie your hair up while working here. The baristas are making coffee and waffles with their hair down and it's not hygienic in my opinion. A lady in line told me she found a hair in her coffee cup once. My rating is based on their espresso drinks, which i didn't quite like. It tasted burnt or just had lack of flavors. It was a disappointment as I liked the coffee beans when it was Sootha and there isn't a good coffee spot in this area. I didn't see any light roasted beans for sale when I visited. I'm not sure if it was the quality of the beans or the calibration issue as the drinks (americano and latte) were too bitter in my opinion. I haven't tried any flavored drinks, which all sounded delicious and I see many positive reviews here, so I'd probably try those if I'm back. All of their espresso drinks are $5+ and come with two shots of espresso. The parking lot can be busy but I never have a problem finding parking. It's a cute spot with a few tables. I came here to grab a quick coffee for the first time, since I had just dropped off a fam member at a local medical facility. They have no menus overhead to look at, so you have to order through their two kiosks. I had problem customizing my iced coffee the way I wanted since there weren't many options to choose from, that I had to just double check with the cashier I ordered it correctly. Once I was ready to sit down and wait for my drink, it was pretty packed inside and I had to go look outside instead to grab a seat. They have patio seating which I took on one of those. Shortly after, the cashier came to find me to ask for my receipt because she said their kiosks weren't working and they weren't receiving any orders so she needed to see what I ordered. My order took awhile to make since said inconvenience was in place. Once I received my coffee and chocolate croissant outdoors, I stayed a bit and just snacked on it there and drank a bit of my coffee before I had to leave back. The mocha iced coffee was good but nothing special, and the chocolate croissant was tasty, but because of its flaky bread texture, it was very messy and kept falling everywhere. I know that's not 'The Mugs' fault, it's the type of bread, but just a heads up to those that order this: have napkins handy and take a quick look in the mirror before talking with someone, you might have a little something right there All in all rating: 7/10 read more

First time in and the cashier was super nice and explained the different drink options. We went with the iced Banana Caramel Latte and iced Spanish latte. Both were great. I love local coffee shops but usually too busy to check them out but with my daughters dance class practically next door, I needed a pick me up. Saw the mugs and went in and ordered a hot rose matcha latte with unsweetened matcha - wow perfection, not too sweet. And the vibe and ambience inside, it feels like an east coast coffee shop inside or maybe a Seattle local spot. I've been here maybe 5-10 ish times after my initial review. While I still like the place, I've had some inconsistencies with my lattes. Compared to Sootha, I like the bigger desks and updated decor. The bathroom was very clean, which I definitely appreciate. I used to go here often before they rebranded so I will miss how lowkey and quiet it was but I like all the new drinks I can try!! We got the strawberries and creme latte and kyoto cold brew. I really liked the strawberry latte which you can get with or without whipped cream. My boyfriend didn't expect the cold brew to be unsweeted but the lady was nice enough to add some syrup for him. I walked in looking for a good latte. You order by punching in your info on an electronic order board. No problem. But, there was a no nonfat or even low fat milk. You specify hot or cold on the bottom of the menu, but ice level on top. Okay. I knew immediately that the price was on the high side, $5.75 for a latte. Great drinks and good seating selections. Barista forgot the matcha in my blueberry matcha one time but that is okay people make mistakes. Its also really popular and hard to find seating if you go after 12PM. Many tables with a lot of seating get taken up by 1 person. It would be a perfect cafe if seating was more readily available.
