Not really a North Face gear type of person. Popped in here to pass sometime, and fell in love with 8 coats, 3 shirts, and a pair of boots. This particular store is an outlet store so it's always a good sale, but apparently the last couple of weeks, they are have double discounts. Everything in the store is 40-75% off sticker price. The store is clean, good selection of clothes, and well-staffed with associates always ready to help find what you need. You can find good deals if you look! I never write reviews. but the b*tch of a cashier that I had to deal with during my visit compelled me to write my first one. First off, let me start by saying that this outlet is great for finding north face items at pretty fairly discounted prices, but they never really have the sizes that you're looking for. several XL and above, or XSs ... but rarely any mediums. I knocked off 3 stars because the customer service is HORRIBLE. I had a cashier who totally ruined my day. She was an extremely rude, slightly heavy african american woman, looking around early 30s or maybe even late 20s (i don't know her name, so the description is only so you yelpers can avoid her or so whoever owns this place can fire her). All I know is she wasn't a manager, because she kept having to call someone over to discount items for her, and she was working the morning shift on Wednesday 10/31. I get to the counter, and I smile and say hello, she just stares at me and says "bag or hand-carry?" as she grabs my items. Okay, that's fine if you don't want to say hello. She rings my items up and gives me a total, but doesn't include the 30% discount. So as I say "is this including the ..." she CUTS me off and speaks over me to her coworker, saying "where's ____" (the manager, who apparently needs to approve discounts). at this point, i'm a bit peeved. So sweet ol` manager comes over to discount the items, meanwhile this b*tch is standing there with a stank eye. and the total comes up in the screen, and i give her my credit card. she snatches it, completes the transaction. She thrusts her hand out with the receipt as I'm unzipping my wallet to put my credit card back in. After seeing that both of my hands are occupied, (one holding the wallet, one unzipping), she says "HERE!" with TREMENDOUS attitude. As is always my experience with an outlet, the place is awesome if you're a woman, notsamuch if you're a guy who wears a medium or large (no chuckling from the peanut gallery, please, I ain't an XL yet!) I went in here with Tracee a couple of times, and each time she walked out with armfuls of bargains, and I walked out with... maybe a t-shirt or two. Prelude... I practiced my speed reading skills and breezed through the reviews prior to visiting the store for the first time. The handsome man had received a gift card for the store and we'd never been here, never heard of the place prior to the gift card thing. As per my speed reading, we expected to find a large store, filled with ONLY neon stuff in XL to XXXXXXL sizes. More prelude... the h-man is a very tall, muscle-y runner. And me, I am a scaredy-cat-when-he-runs-wife. I get nervous when he runs the city streets filled with nutty drivers. I encourage him to wear cheesy neon running stuff so cars see him. Haha- he understands my concern and so far, has one cheesy neon running shirt in his wardrobe. We figured TNFO was JUST his kind of store....neon stuff in big sizes. Well, the store WAS his kind of store, yet we actually saw very little cheesy neon stuff, which was O-Kee-Doe-Kee with us. He can get his neon stuff sometime in the future. I guess the inventory changes over quickly since it is an outlet store. . The store hosted a fab selection of super quality running wear in blacks and other neutral colors as well as some kick-ass shirts and sweaters. There were a few garments he really liked and decided upon a REALLY nice blue sweater; a mere $39.99 in his size, XL. Cool! Some of the prices seemed a bit high for us, yet for the most part we felt they were reasonable. For anyone in search of a jacket, I suggest checking this place out. Half of the large store was dedicated to jackets when we were there. We also saw running shoes and other misc. outdoor gear. We encountered no staffers on the floor, which was cool with us; didn't have any questions. The cashier guy was one of the MOST upbeat and hospitable employees we've ever encountered. Okay, before you (the people that know and love me) read this review, let me get some things straight... I friggin' hate shopping. I seriously H-A-T-E it! I'm the kind of fella that already knows what he wants before he steps into a store, and can pick out said item, pay for it and leave in under 10 minutes. Did I mention I HATE shopping? With this said, I truly love North Face products (not for the name, but for the high quality) and have been that guy who counted his dollars in order to save up for a nice NF coat or sweater. All of their stuff is quality made and will last a long time for a rough and tumble guy such as myself. So imagine my surprise when I visited Berkley, CA and entered the NF Outlet. My jaw dropped, but I already knew what I wanted. I figured I'd look around quickly, pick up a pair of discounted ski pants and then I'd scoot outta there happily with my discounted stoof. Wrong! After finding some ski pants, the wife (who is an amazing bargain hunter) kept on pointing out some great deals on sweaters, hats, jackets, swim trunks, shirts, back packs, sleeping bags, shoes....you friggin name it! It was on sale! Everything was already marked down 50% off the original price, but then they had an additional 70% off of merchandise that day. Holy ba-Jezus you never saw me a manly man act like a kid in a candy shop: "I want this...I want this, I want that and I want this." Yep, that's EXACTLY how it went for my entire NF Outlet visit. I was seriously excited about all the cheap NF stuff and bought bags upon bags of stuff for myself and the wife for the price of a SINGLE full price winter coat. I could not believe how great the prices and was happy that all the items were perfect and no "irregular" items like other company outlets. The staff was AMAZING and very helpful. Sh*t, I guess I worked on commission I'd be helpful and nice too...but these guys were truly very cool, nice and eager to help us find whatever we were looking for. My initial idea of a quick 15 minute trip turned into an almost 1.5 hour long shopping trip with 3 huge bags full of stuff for myself and the wife. Damn, I guess someone's gonna have to rip a corner off of my Man Card for actually enjoying shopping for the first time in my life. Reason for my 1 star (if I could I would give it zero): BF and I were putting stuff away in the trunk when he dropped a $20 bill on the floor. He wasn't aware until I saw a woman that was staring at us when we first parked picked something up on the floor near our trunk area. When I saw that, I asked him if he had money in his pocket, he said yeah, I had a $20, which he couldn't find. -_____-'' We figured it was no use to confront her since she'll just deny it. So we went into the outlet and look around. As we were exiting the store, the same freakin' woman, who was an employee there, greeted us out. WTH! I'm pretty sure she saw my bf dropping the bill. I'm sooo disappointed in their employee's integrity. It was probably my first and last time here for the reason listed above and below. Beware of your belongings in your car and on yourself. Small warehouse with older season/out of season items. Small parking lot/free street parking. Hard to find your size, since they just have what's out there. Came on the last day of their sale? Which was 30% most items. It was July, and the main part of the store was filled with snow season items- jackets, snow pants, fleece. The other half was backpacks, clearance items, work out clothes. I love this North Face Outlet. I live in the South Bay, but I have no problem driving the 45-60 minutes to get to this one when I need a jacket. The quality is great and the price reductions are real savings (unlike other outlets and "company stores" that have limited merchandise and slight discounts). I was really excited to hear we were gonna stop by this place. This place was like Oz to me: I've heard lots of good things about it, lots of good finds. But unfortunately, there is no wizard to harpoon the craziness. First and foremost, the road to Oz is treacherous. You're most likely going to his traffic on 80-E going towards the Berk. That's always the case. Second, parking is pretty tough. Their lot is pretty small, expect to park on the street, maybe even a few blocks down. Selection is what you can expect out of an outlet. Sizes too big. Sizes too small. And whenever you find that perfect jacket that's in the right color, they never have the sizes. Such is the case here. Granted, the deals are great. Half off half off, but pray to the lucky stars that they have your size. On the up, I did find a pair of running shorts for 2 bucks. First timer and possibly last timer as well. The selection was fine. All the employees are fine, BUT one, who I presume may have been the manager. So, we didn't pick up any of our intended purchases. Story time! We were browsing for jackets and what not. My brother asked to take a photo of one of the employees for his class project about customer service. The employee agreed, but I believe the employee may have gone back to ask assumed manager for permission. This is all very understandable. Said manager approaches my brother as if he was a criminal in a tone that was very unnecessary. Why do you have a camera, what's with the camera? My brother explained to this said manager, but this guy continued to act like a douche bag. Sure, give us an explanation and say no, it's understandable that pictures are not allowed, but don't be an asshole about it. We asked for permission and didn't take any fucking pictures of your precious store or anyone in the store, so don't get your panties all twisted. The store itself was nicely organized and the selection wasn't all XXL, which is good because I expected it to be. However, that one experience alone just took all the damn stars away. Located in Northwest Berkeley, The North Face Outlet has quickly become an all time favorite of mine, since discovering it a few years back. I will warn you now, parking is awful (usually a good sign for a business). The whole store is marked down, anywhere from 25% to 75%. Selection is very thorough and customer service is always on point. In fact, grab an employee and ask if they have any new arrivals, they'll go out of their way to get you what you want. A very clean warehouse style outlet, that typically features both in and out of season clothing. Go early, I believe they open the doors at 11am. Also, they do a "sample sale" for extended weeks. They basically shutdown half the store and blowout medium sized clothing for both genders. Great deals, but only if you can squeeze into a medium. One flaw, and I didn't notice it mentioned in the reviews I read, NO WARRANTY. North Face has one of the best lifetime warranties in the industry, but it doesn't apply to their outlet products. To notate this North Face blacks out the "O" on the clothing's tag. Check your tag's. "O" is black on all of them. It's also the reason you pay half the price. On a sidenote, I have never had to return any North Face product. Breaking just isn't their business. Enjoy your shopping people. And shop responsibly... read more

This store is the reason I am "north face poster child girl" (thanks Bryan K). Why shop anywhere else when there is an outlet like this that has everything you need to face the rugged outdoors at bargain basement prices? If you're a size medium, check out the sample sales they have a few times a year. They fill the back room up with giant boxes of last year's stuff, all in mens' or womens' size medium, and let customers have at it. If I remember correctly, everything is $5, $15, or $50, and you can get a ski jacket - shell and liner - for $100. Sometimes you can even find that rarest of finds, a beautiful jacket or fleece in black or white, but usually the colors are a tad funky. As others have mentioned, they usually have a great selection of shoes and backpacks, but they also have hydration packs for way below retail. Check them out when the red sale banner is a-flapping for ultimate savings. read more

It's an outlet store, so expect: Not having your size (lots of L's and M's) Not having THIS season's styles (whatever that means when it comes to outdoor/snow gear..) No warranties But hey, how can you complain? It's super cheap-- like a fraction of TNF stuff elsewhere. Just come back a few times if you don't find anything-- the stock is always changing. HOWEVER, I'd like to let you on a little secret that is against many people's opinions on here-- the famous sample sale is BEYOND overrated. I went to one during the summer of 2012. I promised myself that I will NEVER go again. Why? Most things are size M, ridiculously long wait, hard to find parking (yes, everybody is there like hours before the store opens), tons of pushy Asian moms (yeah, I'm not sure why this was the particular demographic) guarding/hoarding piles of clothes that they either will or might buy, the place is a hot mess because the amount of employees can't restore order when it's at max capacity. This place is perfect if you are a man that wears anything above an X-Large. This place is really hit-or-miss I think. We came out here yesterday since my husband is a North Face snob and has been searching for this jacket that he wants. Upon walking around, I noticed that the selection they had was all very very large sizes, totally off colors (like pale greens) but the prices are not too bad. They are definitely a lot cheaper here then if you were to go to the North Face store at Valley Fair. Sure some of their jackets are expensive like their Summit Series but here you can find their $400 jacket for $250. Quite a significant discount there. Now I myself would never pay that much for a jacket like this unless I was planning to visit the Ice Hotel in Sweden or something. Then I might consider it. Sadly my husband nor I could not find jackets that we liked but we did find a lot of other great deals! I found some snow shoes 50% off, some new gloves because mine got stolen last year and a long sleeve shirt to go to the snow in that wicks away moisture from the skin. My husband found some long sleeve shirts on sale for $7. We also found a ton of other stuff we liked but unfortunately all very very large sizes. =( *cry* We'll come back but only if we are in the area. Definitely too far of a drive for us from San Jose to find out if maybe we find something we might like that might be in our size. Northface just isn't what it used to be, it feels more like a Gap or Old Navy now. I think NF forgot where they started, when they used to make gear for the real outdoors. Now i feel like they only care about the masses and fashion. I came here the other day looking for some new gore-tex gloves and maybe a new backpack but all i seen was low quality high priced crap. I already have about 12 backpacks but i thought i could find something new and cool but i was wrong. All their backpacks now look like jansport packs, not saying jansports not a good brand but its no old school NF. After supporting NF for well over 10 years i think it has come to an end for me. Unless they start making some real deal gear again. Some of their jackets still look ok but all i see is old asian folks sporting them nowadays. Amazing deals on North Face! As the other reviews indicate, this place gets super crowded and parking is definitely limited. We came on a Sunday shortly after opening and found a spot about a block away near the local skate park. I was expecting picked-over, limited merchandise in bright/unpopular colors, but was pleasantly surprised at the selection. They had a variety of different jackets (fleece, tri-climate, insulated, etc.) in all sizes for both men and women. The prices were great! I already have a Denali and Venture jacket, and was surprised to see both of these available here. My fiance found the exact jacket he was looking for at 30% off retail. This was a better price than anything he found online. It seemed like all merchandise was either 30% or 40% off (some off of already mark-downed items). Great deals on North Face gear! Came here a few days before Christmas & on Christmas Eve and everything was an additional 50% off. A few days before Christmas --- There was still a great selection of jackets for women. I saw plenty of black Hyvent jackets in womens but none in mens. There was so many jackets to choose from all at very great prices. However, for mens, there was very limited amount of neutral color clothing. Also, most of the popular men's items were in small. My brother was lucky to have found a Denali jacket for around $60! They had some black fleece jackets for only $30! Christmas Eve --- All the fleece jackets were gone. All the women's Hyvent jackets were gone. All within a few days, they were all gone. Even for women's, many of the clothing in neutral colors were sold out. The cashier told me that they just get boxes full of surprises so they never know what they'll have in stock. Parking is limited. The parking lot is very small & street parking is usually full. Wait around the street or parking lot because cars leave fast. I imagine coming on a weekday would be less crowded and maybe more selection. I'll try next time! read more

And naturally, I had to drive over the bay bridge before it closes from sept 3-8 (so hurry up if you're on the other side of the bay like i am). I was literally running around like a maniac because I was so excited and wanted to buy everything. I really did. I stayed there for about an hour just so i wouldn't buy everything I touched. I made out like a bandit! 2 Recon Backpacks - $38.09 each +1 Surge Backpack - $50.99 +1 Fleece Jacket - $99.99 - AND i got another 10% the total price because of a coupon they emailed everyone who signs up to receive email notifications. = $226.15 at the North Face Outlet CAUTION: -Just beware that most sizes here our L, XL, or XXL, or.. you get the idea. It's hard to find smalls and sometimes even Mediums depending on what you're looking for. Ask an employee if they have any other sizes (they have a few in the back for certain items) -It's the outlet, so these items have blemishes, off coloring, may be a bit scratched, etc. Most items you can't really tell though, mainly the white fleece are the only ones that have major coloring stains. -Mostly stuff for men. Women's selection is still good, but limited. -They have lots of water packs, day packs, tents, sleeping bags, gloves, shoes, everythinggggg. Oh and snow goggles are 50% off! ENJOY! I wouldn't come here expecting to get amazing NF attire for "sweet deals", but it is definitely a good place to search for items that might become necessary sometime in the future. I would advise someone urgently looking for snow gear to go somewhere more reliable. This outlet, while very large and appearing promising, is rather frustrating. For example, you might eye a rack of fleece jackets twenty feet away, and you may scurry over with your heart beating quickly, searching in exhilaration for your size. And it turns out the entire rack is XS. or XL. Don't get your hopes TOO high up when you see something that *might* be amazing. Because the chances of being let down are pretty high. But, on the off chance that you find something perfect, you'll be VERY happy! Some racks have additional 40-50% off the already sale price. Some items aren't that cheap, but still cheaper than at retail stores. There are some backpacks and random accessories too. Obviously they aren't as cute as the ones in retail stores...mostly the reject colors. They have a worker manning the front door in case you try to run out with loads of bulky goodies in your hands and on your body. Hit or miss, mostly miss. You can find some deals if you search high & low in this store. Unfortunately some of the merchandise is so high up you need assistance finding your size. The employees are more than happy to help, but they must get tired of searching through racks upon racks of XXL fleece to look for one medium. If you are an XXL size, or if you love odd colors like bright pink or purple, you'll find plenty here. I came looking for a simple black lightweight fleece & had a very difficult time finding one. I finally found it in my size (the last one) and it was 40% off the already reduced price. Score! I did spend a whole lot of time looking at the rest of the merchandise but didn't find much. No sleeping bags, hats, or gloves. Bummer. The prices are OK but nothing that will draw me in for a special trip anytime soon. I found that REI, Sports Basement, or Sports Authority have a decent selection of North Face & you can even catch a sale now & then. North face outlet is always on my list of places to take my out-of-town friends. Shopping for active gear is so much easier then actually going out and doing active things. I agree with a lot of reviews here. It's hard calling these outlet prices when a jacket that's half off is still $200 plus. But I love that some of the product here can't be found anywhere else. I think you have to pick your weekend. They had their sample sale recently, and I always get a kick out of watching how the store becomes a zoo. They actually rope areas off creating a containment perimeter for the madhouse. I always buy camelbaks as gifts and you can get $100 packs at around $30-40 here. And I almost always get giddy when I see a new BOA shoe release. One of their stock girls let me in on a secret that the workers there get first crack at all the new shipments that come in, so if you really want something one of a kind, you'll have to nab it early. read more

If you're a North Face fan, this is what you call heaven. You have to rely on luck to find something you really love, but most of the time you can leave the store happy. During holiday seasons they have good sales on top of their outlet prices. I've gotten the half dome hoodie for around $20 when they're usually $45 and apex bionic for only around $50. The only problem is that they often don't have smalls for women - a lot of larges and XLs/XXLs - but not too much to complain about since it is indeed an outlet store. Unlike most outlet stores, the quality of their products do not fall short, and if you know anything about North Face, quality = amazing. They sell mostly jackets (hardshells, softshells, fleece, snow jackets etc.), but do carry shoes, backpacks, and various accessories. Come here if you love The North Face! You will not be disappointed. Note: Parking is veryy limited, so you're most likely going to end up parking in the street but nothing too inconvenient. read more

So far, my success at TNF Outlet has been 0/3... Major fail! Good luck if you're a size small, or even medium. There's about a handful of jackets to choose from that are available in those sizes. If you want a basic color (black, white, grey, etc.) AND in a size small/medium... Don't waste your time here! There's a wall of Denali jackets, but mostly weird colors, and they're not even that cheap (~$130+). Hardly any Khumbu or other fleece jackets that would be appropriate in our chilliest of days. Tons of wintry coats for snowy weather (~$200+), something I personally don't find useful living in our golden state. I bought a pair of flip-flops here once because they were super cheap and felt pretty sturdy. Not more than two weeks later, they broke beyond repair. Major disappointment and not worth more than a 30-mile drive... Save your gas money and shop online for comparable or better deals. read more

I had to stop by the TNF store in downtown SF to pickup my race packet (I'm doing the TNF Endurance Challenge 50k this Saturday... yeah its 30+ miles). I had never been to a full-blown retail TNF store before and wow, their stuff is expensive. I checked my packet for a 75% coupon for TNF, but nope, no such luck. So I started writing my review of that place then I soon realized, heck with that, let me write about TNF Outlet! That's where the real deals are. Yeah sure you might get some ugly axx yellow jacket, not the cool black one. Or yeah maybe you convinced yourself that a large fits just fine because well, that's the only size they had left. But when you can get $300+ stuff for $130, well your mind just goes cuckoo. Anyway speaking of cuckoo, I looked at my race packet and noticed the 50k has 6900 ft elevation change... WTF? This wasn't on their f'ing information page. WTF WTF WTF??? Well too late so I'll just do what I always do, pray. I got some amazing deals found at the "warehouse sale" corner--sample items but all brand new and a LOT cheaper. Get on the mailing list to hear about the next one! This place is full of aggressive international people; one guy came all the way from New Zealand buying 5 backpacks, and I saw another large group of Asians yelling and grabbing things over a sale rack as if they were pieces of gold. Lucky me--I dove right into that mess and came out a winner, no harm done to others and myself!! I'm glad I came here at 9:45am (15 min before opening); if I came any later, I would've been too late. I recently heard about this Berkeley gem from a classmate so I made sure to come by as soon as I had a chance. Winter is coming here in Berk, so I needed to invest in a warm jacket for the season. DEALS: Tons of markdowns. There were plenty of jackets marked 40% off. Some jackets were still expensive, but considering the quality of a brand like North Face, I'd say it was worth it. There were $30 fleeces. Snowpants, jackets, backpacks, workoutgear. Everything was on sale. PARKING: The place was relatively packed with bargain shoppers. Like other reviewers have mentioned, limited parking is a slight hassle. But that was easily fixed with street parking. STAFF: Workers were knowledgeable in styles and pricing. Always asked me if I needed assistance. They were well-staffed so the place was also as organized as it could be (pretty impressive seeing as how all the shoppers were migrating with the deals they found). They were always seen collecting random items that didn't belong in an area. RETURN POLICY: Were told we had 60 days to do a return as long as you bring back same card you paid with or cashback. Not bad for an outlet! Great deals. Attentive workers. Solid return policy. Definitely recommend to my fellow Berkeley residents! Can't believe I only just found out about this place. I've only been to this North Face outlet twice over the past 2 years. I have yet to go this year. Both times that I paid a visit was in the winter possibly because my brain tells me to dress warmer and outlet pops into my mind. I love the clothing from North Face. They are fairly stylish and diverse. Whatever it is that you need for the outdoors, you'll probably find it here. The only problem for me is that they have very little medium and small sizes. Both times, I felt like I was shopping at a big and tall store. Hopefully, when I pay my annual visit sometime this year, I will find and buy something that fits me and take it to the snow... read more

I have a weakness for outlets and this one is no exception! My only gripe is the location. Why does it have to be 500 miles away from me??? The selections are huge! I'm kinda addicted to TNF gear. I loved browsing here so much, I came back the next day. Yeah, I'm hard core like that. Of course, there are defects that you should inspect before you buy. But if you don't notice them until you take it home, no worries! They have a two month return policy. Although, buying from here does have a downside, the lifetime warranty is void. Yeah, so lame! Save at least 50% and walk away geared to the gills! read more

Super super thankful for Jason's help today. He went OUT OF HIS WAY to help me put together a "system" - from mid layer to outer layer options. Also, when we narrowed down options, he helped me check the floor, storage & their online (iPad) inventory. Plus, ran price checks that made several items super affordable. Prices here are already amazing - but with the additional markdowns (not always obvious on the price tags) you will find what you need AND MORE. When you're done checking stuff out and trying everything on, I suggest taking yourself to a corner and put earbuds in and turn your most chill music on. First time here over the weekend and I felt like I came out a winner! I got a northface marmolada jacket - snowboard like - but a little thinner for $70 including taxes, retail $180! For being an outlet, they were quite organized and had a great selection in colors and sizes. I hate when outlets only have xxs or xxl and everything left in only two colors that of course no one bought! Wide selection of jackets, clothes, and backpacks. Items were already marked down and additional % taken. My jacket was retail $180, $130 outlet price plus an additional 50%off! woo! Note: because you are purchasing from the outlet - you don't get the lifetime warranty anymore - they put a BIG X over the warranty label Deducted a star cuz the staff isnt too friendly here. I see them all out on the floor but none of them asked me if i need help looking for a size or a specific item. Also, the lady that rang me up seemed irritated when my friend was purchasing multiple items. Show a smile! so we will buy more! Parking lot is small so best bet is find parking on the street and walk to the front. If you love northface, this is a great stop in the bay to expand your collection! read more
