My wife and I came for lunch on a Sunday just after the restaurant opened. Samy the owner is hands on and passionate about his food and customers. -Everything was perfect~ -Food was EXCELLENT ( Plantain chips with Avocado hummus, Marinated Steak sandwich and Tuna Poke Bowl). -Ambiance is Gorgeous!!' -Cool Vibe..... Highly Recommend!!!!

I really want to like this place- the staff is friendly and the outdoor seating area is lovely. I've attended events with food from their catering business in the past and thought it quite good, so I was surprised to find that the food here is mediocre. On a recent visit I had the pulled chicken Greek bowl and a side of corn. The produce in both cases seemed very fresh, but the preparations were- if I'm being honest- bland and uninteresting. The pulled chicken was on the dry side and under-seasoned to the point of being almost tasteless. The included sauce was not enough to offset this. A little sprinkle of sea salt or something would do wonders. J

I have been going to this restaurant since it opened about 7 years now. Last couple years they have been offering themed dinners for 2 at very reasonable prices, currently at $60. The last one we had was the Mediterranean meal which included leg of lamb, zucchini and butternut squash, eggplant dip, fennel salad with grapefruit and bacon and cantaloupe with feta and mint. The lamb was cooked perfectly at medium/rare, the vegetables were seasoned just right. I liked the fennel salad but wasn't crazy for the bacon. But all in all it was amazing. We have also tried the Jamaican, French, Korean, Moroccan and Chinese dinners.

Popped into this place for lunch. Very cute charming place . Menu is up behind the counter with lots of selections. Fish sandwich was very tasty with fries as was the quinoa salad topped with chicken . Only improvement needs to be the steak sandwich . It was mostly bread And arugula and very little steak for $15 .o

This is the worst place I've eaten in a long time. I got 2 fried chicken sandwiches and a mahi sandwich the mahi sandwich was the size of a slider and almost 20$, barely any flavor. The chicken sandwiches were so ridiculously soggy that my finger literally went through it. This place is 2 hours away from where I live and I only stopped in because it was near a job, had I known I was going to spend 70$ on a kids size fish sandwich and 2 chicken sandwich soups I would've waited the 2 hours. Don't bother.

Yesterday I was out east with friends visiting the wineries. We had researched places for lunch . The North Fork Shack had received wonderful reviews so we decided to go there for lunch . To our great disappointment they were closed . On their website it clearly states they are open on Wednesday. There was a sign on the door saying they were closed for a family function . I understand things do happen but a family function is a planned event so maybe they could have posted something on their website . The two star review is because we didn't get to experience their food . Next time we are in the area we will try again .

I love the casual atmosphere of the shack and how they offer numerous local ingredients to please all sorts. The menu scribbled on the wall boasts lamb sandwiches, vegetarian wraps, healthy fare with a low key beachy and casual feel to the interior. There are large, welcoming tables waiting for your hungry bottoms to enjoy both inside and out. The North Fork shack is super cute, however, ya can't eat the decorations. There were a few misses with my last visit: The avocado in my SLT (shiitake mushroom, lettuce tomato!) was hard as a rock. Not ripe. I grunted and picked it out. Darn -- I was really craving some creamy fresh avo! Otherwise, it was a tasty, well rounded wrap. I've not eaten fried shiitake quite like that prior but wouldn't mind consuming my shrooms this way again. Buffalo chicken wrap was flavorful however the meat was on the dry side and probably overcooked. The coleslaw that came out with both was way too sour + vinegary for this gal. The person who took my order either did not want to be there, or wasn't quite fond of me. I certainly don't expect everyone to smile and hug me (especially after how sweaty I was that day, GA-rooooss) but at least extend some sort of pleasantries. Better luck next time, I suppose!

The SLT was worth a trip. The shitakes could have used a touch more salt, but it was a GREAT sandwich, even for $12. Seriously. There just aren't that many veggie sandwiches that I would travel for. Although the prices were a little on the high side (juice box for $2?), I get it, they have to make their money in the high season. The tacos are well priced and the kids would like them. Definitely going back for more. read more

Wow! This restaurant is very casual--but amazing. As a local, I could see returning here again and again--whether it's take out for the beach, or stay in and enjoy. We had the plantains and avocado hummus--great--though the hummus lacked a zing. The spring rolls were very fresh; the fries are amazing. He had the fried fish sandwich while I had one of each of the tacos-fish, steak, and chicken all were amazing! We'll be back! read more

I only had the fish sandwich and the clam chowder. I appreciate that they are trying to locally source their food but neither was satisfying. The fish sandwich is described as "lightly fried...local fish" but what I got was well-fried, deep fried bits of fish, not a whole piece. When you have many small bits, you tend to get lots of breading and little fish. As I say, the fish was well fried so it wasn't very moist. Thankfully, there is a slice of tomato and a leaf of lettuce on top to help moisten it a tad. The accompanying "sriracha slaw" was about 2 tablespoons of chopped cabbage with very little flavor. Perhaps the bottle of sriracha was waved over the cabbage prior to it's chopping. Couldn't even taste mayo or vinegar in the "slaw". The chowder was just ok. Not loaded with clams. Didn't notice any onion within. The room itself is a series of wooden tables and a counter. It gets very noisy/echoy with not that many people inside. The woman at the counter was a hard worker. I drove home and made myself a nice big cabbage salad (with sriracha added) to satisfy the desire I had to taste something fulfilling. All in all, disappointing. read more

I am a local and native north forker and The Shack is as good as it gets. The Shack stands out from the rest of the establishments in the area by offering fresh, unique and pallet friendly plates that will satisfy every level of foodie possible. If you are passing through or live on the North Fork, this place is full of awesome people, a relaxed atmosphere and a menu that will make the trip well worth it. The local fish sandwich is my go to but I have tried most menu items and have never been disappointed. A welcoming addition to a food market that was lacking a fresh and unique approach to offering local and visitors alike; a quick, easy and memorable meal. read more

Great addition to the Southold food scene! Fish Sandwich, Pulled Lamb, and steak sandwich are my go-to's. Service is quick and friendly. Prices are quite reasonable considering the quality, and if they have any of the smore cookies if you go, make sure to get -- they are out of this world entirely. Definitely will keep going back! read more

For apps we had grilled calamari, comes tossed with fingerling potatoes & olives , amazing. The tastiest spring rolls ever with a sweet and spicy dipping sauce and an order of really good fries. My daughter and I had fried cod sandwiches on sesame rolls with a surprising and delicious dressing and my friend Billy had a fish, a chicken and beef tacos . We shared and all agreed the place is a home run! Definitely going back soon. read more

Unfortunately the salad came out with regular radish (big difference from watermelon radish). Just tell us ahead of time and we'd change our order - they said after the fact that they are out of the watermelon radish (the toasted corn was also soggy - seemed bagged or made from frozen). The calamari was good but was missing the cherry peppers - instead they had what seemed like jarred banana peppers instead. Again, not what was on the menu. I guess we were just disappointed when we were changed $22 for each appetizer that wasn't what was described on the menu. This kind of stuff is just lazy to me - it's not hard to serve what's described on your menu and if something ran out, tell us - we'd change our order. I think we'll take a pause on Ellen's for now. I hope this is read and these easy small changes are made as we'd love to come back for what's described on the menu. Positive notes - appreciated the ambiance and the service was proficient, no issues with our server.

Pulled in for lunch on our way to the Orient Ferry, and based on our experience we will become regulars. For starters I had the Fish Ceviche, which was nuts! Soooo good. Delicate fish pieces basting in a citrus-y, cilantro, red onion combo, served with a generous portion of plantain chips. This was ridiculously good. My husband had the pulled lamb sandwich with a tzatziki-like sauce and greens. It was lick your fingers good. Then we shared a pulled chicken taco which might be the deal of the century (only $3 or $4, cant remember exactly). Super delicious with generous fillings. For years we've tolerated sub-par food on the ferry, but from now on we're going to call in our orders to The North Fork Shack and enjoy excellent food while our ferry neighbors dine on chewy, over heated pretzels. #LOL! read more

Got the steak sandwich and it was delicious! Also got fries on the side and they were great. The staff was very friendly and helpful and took my order quickly without any issues. I sat at the bar/counter area with a view of both the kitchen and TV. The atmosphere is causal and comfortable and I will 100 percent be returning soon. Not sure I have a right to "review" having only tried one dish. But it was, in industry terms "yummy." Ceviche with plantain chips. 1st item on their menu board at $12, I wanted and expected super fresh fish and a decent amount of it. Score. Nice pairing with the chips, pretty sturdy as scoopers. The North Fork Shack is a hidden gem. The watermelon salad was incredibly refreshing and bursting with flavor -- easily one of the best I've ever had. The tacos were out of this world -- perfectly seasoned and packed with bold, fresh ingredients. Our kids couldn't get enough of the chicken burgers, which were juicy, crispy, and super satisfying. We went there last wknd and I had the best chicken sandwiches I've ever had (ate two). Kids split the burger and spent a half hour running around the spacious picnic table area outside. Love this place. read more

Love it. Had the SLT shiitake mushroom wrap. Super fresh with just the right seasonings. Cute place with group tables. Very chic and friendly. Looks like nothing outside but pretty on inside. read more
