I get massages often. It's my primary self care, and I have expedited all sorts of styles, techniques, and influences. I often feel that going to an upscale spa pays for the design more than the skill of the therapists, as I've been to many small Thai places with highly skilled therapists. Unfortunately one never really knows until the therapist places hands. I paid for a deep tissue massage because my neck pain was more severe than usual. I also requested an 80 min "sport massage" for more therapy than "relaxation". Not only was my massage a notch above a smearing of oil on my skin, I even wondered if he was doing reiki on me because his approach was so light, subtle, and gentle. Now that's fine... if that's what I had asked for... but it wasn't. I just tried to breathe and relax and take what I was given because, well, I'm already there on the table. The therapist was so "polite" and política correct that he made major efforts to carefully wrap my thigh with the sheet to avoid my body being exposed... which, sure... but shouldn't a "sport massage" include the largest and tightest muscle of the body: the glutes? In a very polite manner, my leg massage did not include my feet and ended mid-thigh. I might as well have just applied lotion myself. The stretch felt good but was still too gentle. I kept thinking... okay so the "deep tissue" will be the added bit I requested for my neck and shoulder. Nope. I did have an emotional release while he worked on my shoulder... which seemed to make him nervous and uncomfortable as he rushed to end the session... 8 minutes early. Perhaps this was an under-experienced therapist? I felt mislead, overcharged, and still tight. After the massage i came out and he asked me how I felt And I said I still felt tight.... One-time service was fine, massages were good. However, the membership services are frankly appalling & are as close to violating FTC rules around membership conditions and cancellations as they can get without stepping over the line. The mechanism they use to apply credits is a pay first, reimburse later (so if someone forgets to apply your membership credits towards a service, it just never gets reimbursed) and seems frequently abused without watching the charge like a hawk. It's another nightmare to try and cancel your membership. First, there is a 30 day delay period built into any membership, meaning you will still be charged if your membership renewal date is within those 30 days. Second, the Now Massages are a franchise, not a chain. So if you try and cancel your membership via email/phone, you need to make sure you're calling the correct franchise number or your request is invalid. Unhelpfully, anyone you contact about this will not inform you that you are not in their system until the last minute. Third, there's a level of decentralized responsibility that's frustrating for customers. On each call or in person visit, we consistently hit a snag where a front desk worker would claim they did not have the authority to handle a cancellation, a refund, a credit application, etc. and would have to wait until the next day for someone else to take a look at it. This process, combined with in person/call requirements, seems designed to take advantage of people without enough time to navigate their complex bureaucracy and leads to a poor customer experience. read more

I just went to the Lakeview Now recently but I have also been to the South Loop as well. The deep tissue massage was amazing! The interior design makes you feel like you are transported to an exotic destination like Tulum, the music is so relaxing (and the sound system is great) the music makes you feel like you are getting a massage on a beach outside in nature listening to beach waves and thunderstorms. I'm used to quiet massages so didn't figure out till mid way that the loud sounds I was listening to were supposed to be sounds of waves ‍ I thought it was traffic of some sort. I had to leave my mask on which is understandable however I was congested so didn't lead to a relaxing massage I was hoping for. I couldn't really smell the essential oils . The ambiance was so serene, with the bohemian decorations, dimmed lighting, and wave sounds in each of the massage "rooms". I'm so happy that we passed by this place on a walk to Trader Joe's! I've only gotten a few massages in my life, but after one visit to this place I am a changed human. From the time you walk in till the time you leave it's a completely different experience. The first time I went I did a 25 minute healer massage and the second time I went I did an 80 minute now massage. They also have a stretcher massage so if your tent from working out a lot and you need your muscles to be really stretched out, I imagine that it would be great for you. My significant other and I have both gone and my experiences are generally more pleasant than his. However it could just be because we've gotten a different masseuse each time. I've had all three types of massages - The Now, The Healer, and The Stretch. And I have enjoyed all of them. I have a high stress, high anxiety life. i was very excited about an expensive massage. i get there and the receptionist told me my specific masseuse requires me to wear a mask. no other customers, just me. i asked if i had to wear one when im face down and she said yes. i said how will I breathe? being face down already restricts your breathing. i came to relax not have a panic attack from lack of oxygen. some random customer said they'd switch with me. the problem is, I specifically chose a woman because having men touch me makes me uncomfortable. her massage therapist was a man. so, already upset, i said fine. didnt enjoy my massage at all. was uncomfortable the whole time and tense from earlier. 0/10. don't be selfish. find a new job then. some people want to relax read more

Yelp helped me find this place! Looking for a relaxing massage and this spa looked new, clean and the services offered was very concise. I got THE STRETCH for my first time because I had a few hard workouts this week and wanted to rejuvenate my muscles. I loved the smell when I walked in. The environment is so chic, calming, and super clean (unfortunately not a lot of massage spas meet this criteria). The experience was wonderful. I really liked how they explain your body to you, telling you areas that's tense and how to do more stretching and self massaging. Why wasn't it a 5 star? There were a couple things. There was no music during the session. The dead silence is nice sometimes, but I personally like some low volume calming background music. It can be kinda awkward too when you are getting ready and it's just the 2 of you talking in a dark room. Also, I had heat therapy and scalp renewal as add ons. The scalp renewal felt nice. But it was super short and the heat therapy was literally just a warm weighted blanket they put on your back. For an additional $10, I did not think that was worth it. I get regular massages to ease my sciatic pain. I decided to give The Now a chance since it's in my neighborhood, despite some alarming reviews. I booked online, and was forced to provide a credit card number to hold my appointment . When I got there, the receptionist was quick to tell me I didn't have an appointment. When I asked if I was going to be charged since I provided a credit card, she refused to answer my question and started treating me like a pesky fly. She didn't offer another appt. until I asked about one. When I pointed out that other Yelpers pointed out this same problem with botched appointments and charges, she haughtily pointed out that TN has a 4.5 rating. When I showed her several one star reviews, she just sneered at me. If I get charged for my non-existent service, I'm definitely going to the Attorney General. From other reviews, it feels like they're making extra $$ by charging people for services NOT rendered. I wonder if there are enough people who've been cheated to file a class action lawsuit!!! It's a shame, because the lucky few who actually manage to GET a massage rate this place highly. I find this kind of sloppiness and rudeness to be unacceptable. read more
