Not bad. Not great either. The service was fast and friendly, and the food was, well, ok. I had the brat, which was a semi-locally made sausage, split and grilled, and topped with sour kraut, onions, and swiss cheese. Didn't need the cheese though, because that made it taste like a reuben. The brat was fine on it's own with some kraut and onion, but it was a little overdone for my tastes. The potato pancakes were pretty average. My wife got the baked mac and cheese. It had a slight tanginess to it, but not a whole lot of flavor otherwise. Also, the silverware was kind of cafeteria-like. They really need to get some higher quality forks and knives. read more

Schmidts line was too long so we went over to the Mohawk. I was quite happy even though it feels like a bar that decided to start serving food (see Thurmans). Still, the food is pretty darn good ranging from sandwiches and pub fare to some more traditional german items. Service was above average and I would happily visit again. read more

Mohawk has been around for a long time, and is cozy, and filled with people who just enjoy some decently priced food with an above average beer selection. The problem with German Village is that most places are trying really hard to be something they aren't. Like Schmidts, which is trying to bill as an authentic restaurant, but just isnt'. Mohwawk is unpretenious, and filled with friendly service, and good food. I really enjoyed the Brat sandwhich which is locally made ( go OHIO !) as which came with a tasty side of potato cakes which were crispy and a welcome change up from fries, and chips, but they weren't completely full of flavor. This place has some specials that rotated daily though out the week, like 2 for 10 ques-a-dillas, and some really amazing lasagna on Wed. Its a good place to go for drinks and food, but I'm not going to go out of my way to eat here. It is close to the other spots of the village, like Schiller Park, which is much more appealing then other parks in the city, and has the added advantage of having Shakespere in the Park most days. read more

Reputation is strong. I find that as many times as I've been there the food quality is drastically going down hill. It's so close that I'd go often but I've given up on it. Zero taste....costs are WAY too high for food based on the quality, presentation and creativity. Staff, not bad but definitely professional-style. Whoa, how come I had absolutely no idea this place existed until it showed on the "Best of Yelp" page? What a terrible scout I must be! After stopping by The Old Mohawk for a few pre-work beers (I work in German Village) I have to say that I agree with everyone else about this dandy little restaurant- it's a great bar with ever better bar food. Not much bad to say about it besides how crowded it was for being 3 pm on a Saturday. After browsing the menu, it made sense: the food selection is incredible! At Leigh's suggestion, I went with the Mother Mohawk sandwich, and I think it's safe to say that I'm hooked. The more I think about it, this might be bad news for me, seeing as I'll be tempted to pick one of these up before work every day. So there you have it- hearty food at reasonable prices, a great atmosphere that splits the difference between bar and restaurant, and an attractive selection of drafts and imports. The Old Mohawk is that old time down home bar and grill that makes German Village what it is. It was started in 1933 and has gone through a few changes in name and owners, but in essence it is one and the same. The food is good and the prices are alright. Seven ninety-five for a sandwich isn't the best around, but compared to Katzinger's it's cheap. I tried the Thursday special meatloaf, which has been a tradition for some 25 years and it was indeed tasty with diced green bell pepper, onions and other flavors like Worcestershire sauce. The meat was tender and crumbly and the sauce was robust. For someone with a small appetite like me, the servings are plentiful, enough so that you'll end up taking some home. The people are friendly, enthusiastic and some of them have been there for a long time. History for The Old Mohawk, like so many other places in German Village, is rich. The Old Mohawk makes for a nice hangout when I visit my sister and her boyfriend in German Village. Usually, if the wait is too long at Schmidt's or if we're not as hungry, we walk on over to The Old Mohawk. The food is pretty good here. I had a Bratwurst Sandwich the last time I came. Sounds kinda odd, I know, but it was pretty good, all in all. Maybe I ordered it because Schmidt's had a 2-hour wait that night and I wanted to go there. When I first tried their kettle chips I truly fell in love, though! They tasted great!! I've been eating only kettle chips ever since. It's true. Now they're all that I buy at the grocery store and I think it was due to The Old Mohawk. The service has been kinda laid back, but they're nice enough. They are also pretty helpful too when it comes to picking out a beer. The Old Mohawk has a pretty good selection of brews and my sister's boyfriend just couldn't make a decision, so the waiter let him try a few. I think that was helpful! This was my go to when l lived in Ohio years ago. Whenever l am a visiting l take family and friends there. The Old Mohawk has not changed over the years. lt has character - a great vibe -and the food is made from scratch with pride. My salad wasn't fresh - which is the only time it has been not been great in over 20 years. l didn't say anything because we were all just enjoying the vibe and everything else was perfect. My daughter and her husband loved the onion rings. My mom -who is usually a picky eater - devoured her bratwurst dinner. Service is always an A+. Parking can be challenging during peak dinner hours so it is good to allow a little extra time. read more

Great place for a first date. Not too fancy, but service and food is really good. Plus its in a cool part of town. The bratwurst is great as well as the burgers and the quesadillas. The Old Mohawk is located in the infamous German Village neighborhood in a city without much tradition. In Columbus, things come and go but there does not seem to be much lingering (especially with restaurants). The Mohawk fits in quite nicely in the brickwork of German Village. Once inside, you can tell that this place is tried and true. The atmosphere is nostalgic. Of course, a nostalgic dive like this is usually to be judged by the quality of its hamburger...this place does not disappoint. The hamburger is generously sized. The bun is thick. The burger patty and cheese melt together. The other sandwiches also looked quite appetizing. Come to The Old Mohawk and experience traditional Columbus at its finest. read more

I just visited here for the second time, and both times food and service have been really great and consistent! The first time I came here was with my mom and daughter. The waitress put in an order of a cheese quesadilla for my toddler so she could eat and be busy and not fussy. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable! It was in the middle of the afternoon lunch rush, but there were tables available so no wait! The sandwiches my mom and I ordered were amazing and very filling! I ordered the chicken salad sandwich and was very happy. It was so thick and slathered all over the bread that it was hanging off the bread and not one single piece of chicken salad fell off the bun. It was a while ago that I went with my mom so I can't remember what sandwich she ordered but she really liked hers and wants to visit again. I liked my chicken salad sandwich so much I ordered it again when I went on a date with my husband and again it was just as good and never fell off the bun. I really do want to try their other sandwiches like the Sloppy Jose and their Reuben sandwich, but their chicken salad has me hooked! My husband ordered the Mother Mohawk so he got to enjoy some of the chicken salad and he loved it as a topping on his roast beef. This time when we visited it was around 6pm and again the place was crowded but there were empty tables! We had a different server but she was just as quick, friendly and efficient as the previous server. Next time I come back I will try something new! read more

Went to this place for Restaurant Week. Got the tomato soup, crap cakes with red pepper sauce, and Buckeye Special cheesecake. The venue is overall a little small. We came with a group of 11 and had to split up into three groups. The tomato soup was okay, with a right amount of basil but it was very oily. The crab cake was underwhelming and the red pepper sauce was a good sauce, but didn't go with the crab cake well. The crab cake was fairly dry and overly floured. Could use some acidity like lemon juice. The vegetable were frozen and unseasoned. I only ate them because I needed vegetables for the day. The Buckeye Special cheesecake was good. Good balance of peanut butter and chocolate and pecan. Service was good. read more

I went with my husband for lunch. They have a friendly service and the restaurant is very small so maybe you will have to wait a little bit, but not too much. My husband had a Bistro Salmon Salad which he liked very much and I had a Cajun Crab and Shrimp Pasta which was very tasty but I think the shrimps were really small... I have visited The Old Mohawk - once as a party of four and once as a party of two. Both times I found the food to be average. The first visit I ordered the breaded sweet corn nuggets and the cajun crab and shrimp pasta. Both were good but neither were exceptional. The pasta was spicy and sauced well. Most recently I ordered the beef stew served in a mulit-grain bread bowl. While the stew tasted like and had texture of that which could have come from a can, the bread bowl was the highlight of the meal. The other person with me ordered fish and chips and the fish was a little soggy from the oil while the fried potatoes were delicious. Separate from the decent food, the service is top notch! I've always been waited on quickly and efficiently by a friendly individual. Overall, I recommend the Old Mohawk. Next time I'm trying the French Dip! read more

Exceeded expectations!! We stopped in for a drink and a snack. We received a warm greeting as soon as we walked in and grabbed two seats at the bar. I selected a great IPA from the more than adequate beer list. I was impressed with all the vegetarian options on the menu and was really glad I selected the CHILI. The Old Mohawk is a favorite place for good food and great drinks. We've rarely had to wait for a table even when the restaurant is busy, great wait staff, and a solid menu with a good list of seasonal options. I have never been disappointed with the food or the service. It can be loud if it is busy, but I consider that part of the ambiance and charm of the place. Be sure to check out the art, by local artists, displayed on the wall. While Columbus has plenty of tourist-centric restaurants, the Old Mohawk is somewhere the locals, like myself, feel more at home, but tourists are welcome. read more

Pasta dish with heavy cream sauce (heavy on the flour). Meatloaf wasn't bad but the mashed potatoes tasted like potato flakes were used, canned green beans. (maybe some like flakes and canned? I'd expect that only in a cafeteria) Reuben sandwich...meat chewy and outsides had clearly dried out. Had the fries "upgrade". Enough for me, but there were not many. So, food was a bummer. The most redeeming factor of The Old Mohawk is the awesome interior - it's a feast for the eyes. Great ambiance. It's good for a group or just the two of you. The food is good - average selection. Whatever I have ordered has always been decent and of an adequate portion - not overpriced. The staff is always cheerful, fast, efficient, non-intrusive on conversation. This is a great place for local artists to exhibit their work - except sometimes, well, they might want be a little more particular about whose goes up. Parking is scarce - and a drawback. I loved the atmosphere here, this fit in well and blew away the plank bier garten which we stopped at first. Had the signature sandwich that was novel and good, potato pancakes also good. My wife had the hummus app (half off apps at happy hour is a really good deal). Platter was large and good, French onion soup also good.
