Paid and went to enjoy it outside at a table. Looks like a hot pocket but tastes like I am in serious carb heaven. After I finished it, I went back in for more. Bought the spinach ones (triangular shaped) that came in a bag of 6. Then another soujouk and a beef boreg. The beef boreg had cured meat that is their version of prosciutto with cheese. These hot days doesn't give me much motivation to cook (even though I still do at least 4 dinners per week). Dinner was easy tonight. I heated each up in the pan so that the bread had better texture. Everyone LOVED it. Safe to say that I will be back for more. You can buy the Armenian pizza, boreg, etc. It lasts for 10 days OR you can freeze it. Don't think this stuff can last 10 days since it would be all in tummies every time. They had a case of a variety of baklava. Dangerous stuff...hehe. Maybe that will be for another day.. read more

Been wanting to try this place out for the last couple of years and I'm hating myself for not trying it out sooner. Pros Khachapuri: Amazing! I did not mind the wait when they told me they needed time to bake it since I was guaranteed a fresh and piping hot Khachapuri. It was food porn just seeing the cheese and runny egg fall apart as you rip a piece out. Baklava: They have an assortment of baklava and I got a whole box with half pistachio and cashew and they were both decadent. It tastes even better since it's made fresh so the phyllo dough is more crispier. The ratio of phyllo dough, honey, and nuts were right so each bite gives you the perfect baklava consistency. Service: Genuinely polite and friendly service. They treated first time customers as if they were regulars. When carbs and a heart attack waiting to happen is worth it! (talking about their Armenian pizza.... see below) The boyfriend, our new addition (puppy), and I enjoyed a nice quick, affordable, tasty meal at the Old Sassoon Bakery on a Saturday afternoon. My bf and I both agreed that they deserved a 5 star rating for their food and overall qualities of what an eatery should exemplify. He actually didn't want me to yelp about this. Selfishly, he wanted to keep it our secret spot. I can't! I love supporting little mom and pops businesses. Khachapuri - I am talking about their Armenian pizza that is oddly shaped and "gnarly looking" as one of my friends stated. It consist of dough, cheese, and a sunnyside up egg in the center. Now... I am a fan of runny yolk so it was deliciously good to dip the bread into the egg yolk. (My fatty tendencies : ) The boyfriend and I shared this and it was more than enough... yet it was so good that we couldn't resist finishing it! This pastry was surprisingly big. It was about a foot long and maybe 6 inches wide for $3 or $4 bucks. They also cook it to order (about 10 mins). Note: The cheese was layered a bit too thick and got a bit much after a couple bites. Next time, I might have to make a request to go easy on the cheese. Manaiesh: this was an item on their daily special. It was a sandwich that consisted of an herby spread, tomatoes, olives, and onions. This hit the spot for my love of Mediterranean food. I love herbs and olives. This was only about $3 and again, good portion. Beef and cheese pastry: the meat was flavorful and the cheese was perfectly spread (not overwhelming), the bread was also nice and moist. Service: the guy behind the counter was super nice and patient with me while I debated on the items I wanted to try, When it comes to food... I can be so indecisive! I want to try everything (fat tendencies again haha) Price: CHEAP! Such good deals for unique and tasty food Ambiance: there are only 2 tables outside and we were lucky to find one vacant when we arrived. It was a Saturday so I can't imagine it getting too crazy here. Most of their customers seemed to drop in and out quickly. As we stuffed our faces, we watched several people come and go with boxes of food. Parking: free street parking right in front of the bakery. Awesome! I didn't try their sweet pastries but I plan on coming back very soon. We also wanted to try their beef gyro, but it was sold out. : ( Maybe this will be our weekend morning spot. I've been living in the city of Pasadena for several years now and residing in an area of town where ethnic food is homemade, generational and lovely. One of those is middle eastern and lahmajun; an armenian pizza, a snack for most, is no exception. I remember having my first pizza in my hometown of Bako. It was handmade by an acquaintance who froze layers and layers of these so that they could be whipped out at any given time, baked and served to the guests. These pies were different and I never forgot about them ever since. My hood provides plentiful opportunities to have middle eastern fare and after visiting several bakeries and trying their version of lahmajun, particulary meat style, Old Sasoon Bakery is by far, hands down, like karate kid, the best around. I appreciate that they bake their goods daily and typically don't have any day olds laying around. Today was looking for a dessert / pastry shop and I found this place! I didn't read any reviews but just looked at all the pictures. And I love Baklava & Lahmajoune! So I stopped by and I am glad I did! Seriously this place is legit! The owners are an old couple and they're super nice and sweet. I was looking around, saw this cookie. The lady tried to explain it but then she said just try it. I was like okay, and it was nougat cookie and it was tasty. I ordered a bunch of baklava: walnut, pistachio, and cashew. They look so good, I can't to eat them tonight! I bought 1 1/4 pound and it was really affordable. Then I asked about the Lahmajoune is Armenian Pizza. Armenian Pizza is made with usda choice ground beef, fresh tomatoes, parsley, garlic, and onion on a 9" dough crust. I remember growing up in grade school, my good friend Raffi gave me some of his. HIs mom made the best Lahmajoune. I haven't had Lahmajoune since Jr. High. I miss Raffi and I miss Lahmajoune. And The Old Sasoon Bakery has the most tastiest Lahmajoune! I wanted to try a piece but she brought me out a warm Lahamjoune and rolled it up for me and gave me try. I was going to pay her but she said no it's okay! I was shocked that her love of baking and her love of her food, that she would share with me. I love these kind of places, hole in walls with great owners! They're are super sweet and friendly. Everything here smells and looks delicious! This place is more of a lunch place than a dessert bakery and the locals definitely hit this place up. I can definitely see why. They're known for their Beorag and flat bread pizza looking things. They also have sandwiches and wraps. This is the largest selection of beorags I have seen. They have everything ranging from more American chilli cheese to more traditional such as olives. These are all around $2 and they definitely fill you up! You can buy these by the 3's as well (?) and freeze them for later. They also have indoor and outdoor seating for quick lunches! Not only do they have savory dishes, but they have a selection of sweet pastries such as three kinds of baklava as well as other desserts. Gross! They're definitely in violation of so many things. No attempt at social distancing, too many customers inside at one time, customers walking in without masks, owners/employees had their masks down at their chins. The lady at the register was touching money and went straight to touching food items to bag up. This happened over and over. Old school since 1948, actually this location opened in 1987. I've passed this bakery many times over the years and decided to stop by to get a few pastries to go. I'm not sure what they are called but the pastries had spinach and mushroom filling on the other. The pastries were okay so I give them 3 stars, I'm not a big fan of Armenian pastries, but 5 stars for the bakery being around for all these decades. read more

Kachapuri and baklava heaven! They are reasonably priced, and have several items that are ready to take home and reheat. I've tried several of the items there, not sure which ones but i have never been disappointed. The kachapuri is made to order, and is definitely shareable. I love their baklava, it's perfect in terms of sweetness. They have a small outdoor area, so you can eat your kachapuri right out of the oven. I don't like to share bad reviews but my husband went to eat there yesterday and he ordered a meat börek and when he bit it, he said it smelled bad so he looked closer and there were maggots inside. Definitely a favorite of mine - beautiful treelined street with simple patio tables and shade to enjoy your treats. Their baklava is outstanding, but I really like their sahlab (which is kind of like a fancy cream of wheat) served in the mornings. This place has quickly become one of my Pasadena favorites, for many reasons. The vibe is very mom and pop, and everyone is very kind and helpful. The atmosphere is what you would want and expect from a quaint little bakery, but the food is what keeps bringing me back. I grew up in Turkey, and frequently miss my favorite foods, especially close to my home, and this place completely hits the spot. The foods are very similar to what I grew up with, and their lahmajune and crushed pistachio baklava are truly superb. I'm still slowly working my way through the menu each time, but everything has been delicious and full of nostalgia.
