This is based solely on my personal experience, and I don't think it's necessarily a reflection of the entire establishment. I'll actually be back because the salon is close to my new job and I liked the space, but THIS visit was not it. I normally wear long nails, but this time I told my tech I wanted them cut down to a medium or "smedium" length. I thought we understood each other, but unfortunately, they ended up way shorter than what I asked for. From the first few nails, I started pointing out that they were looking a little too short, but I didn't realize there was still going to be more cutting, filing and shaping. By the end, they were basically down to my fingertips. The shaping was another issue. I even asked what shape she was going for because some nails looked coffin while others looked almond. At that point, there wasn't much that could be done because so much length had already been filed away. I was vocal throughout the service about what I wanted and what I didn't like, and she said she understood me, but the end result was basically everything I said I didn't want. There may have been a communication barrier, because I genuinely don't know where things got lost. Her actual polish application wasn't bad, but once the length and shape are wrong, the rest really doesn't matter much. I still paid in full. I wasn't offered a discount, a future fix or anything else, which was disappointing considering I was clearly unhappy with the result. Literally was on the brink of eruption. This is probably the worst nail job I've gotten in years. I don't use the word hate often, but I really hate how my nails look right now. That particular tech will never touch my hands again. I am willing to give the salon another chance with a completely different nail tech because I otherwise liked the establishment and the location is convenient. After a long string of disappointing manicures at various nail salons, my visit here was the straw that broke the camel's back and led to me deciding to never pay for manicures again. I have been here several times and the quality of your service depends largely on who the technician is. One of the techs (whose name I unfortunately forgot) is amazing and did one of the better gel french manicures I've had. Another, who I've had a few times doesn't seem to have knowledge of current trends or understanding of how to do them. I requested a neutral chrome and got frosted polish on one occasion. On another, I wanted a French done with regular polish and the same tech I just mentioned acted like she couldn't do it if I didn't get gel, basically trying to upsell me from the moment I sat down. Then when I told her I would prefer a slightly less stark white for the tip color she said she couldn't do it without using gel and I felt like there was an attitude as soon as I said I wanted a basic manicure and not gel. Visited there again recently, and as always had a wonderful treatment. I usually go for a pedicure -- which also involves a fairly substantial leg massage -- and come home feeling pampered. I especially recommend Tina, for her wonderful attention to detail, and her care for the customers. Their appointment system was rocky when they first opened (I see the ratings from other customers back then). But appointments now, made by phone, are kept accurately. I wanted to like them, but they are always in a rush. And they don't take their time. My nail technician cut my nails so rapidly, haphazardly and down to the quip that she actually created a hangnail that I had to remove on my own and then put neosporin on because it hurt so much. She cut my nails so short that when she went to file, she was filing my finger tips - not nails, so now those are sensitive. Unfortunately, the language barrier between us made it impossible to convey my discomfort although one would think wincing and flinching were universal and thus easily read. Do not come here. Highly unprofessional and the staff will take appointments (like they did for me) but not honor them. I saw multiple women get seated prior to me, and I made my appointment much earlier in the day (at 12:45pm) for 7pm. I arrived at 6:40pm to soak and possibly start a little earlier. They allowed me to wait and made it seem like everything was OK. 7:15 rolls around and I still don't have a seat for my pedicure. I understand that people may have arrived prior to me, but did they make an appointment? I did. And I waited all day to arrive early for nothing. This is my only day off this week and I wasted an appointment for nothing. I could have gone somewhere else. If they have an issue with timing then perhaps they shouldn't allow people to make appointments. I could've taken my money and time elsewhere. Don't bother wasting your precious time coming here, since they have an issue with respecting yours. *Update- in response to someone who felt that I "should've left at 7" and wrote this for "discounts"...I never plan on coming back, and they shouldn't take appointments at certain times if it's going to be a problem. It's quite simple. Someone requests an appointment time, and they say no. Maybe suggest another time, or a different day. This could've been avoided, and I did leave, 20 minutes after. I've never been to this nail tech and usually make appointments with a specific tech, but it was last minute so I did a walk in. the energy was off the moment I sat down and he was hostile both in action and speech. filing and tapping on my hands aggressively and when I questioned what he was doing, he began raising his voice and cursing at me. it got to the point where the manager, Allie, had to step in and finish my manicure as he stormed to the back room. I visited this salon for the first time today and was serviced by Allie, the manager. When I arrived as a walk-In, they asked me if I would like a pedicure in addition to my gel fill. I said yes. The service started off very friendly. However, by the time that Allie got to the shaping of my nails, she started arguing with me when I asked her to match the shape of the right hand with the left. She told me that she had it that way in the first place; which she did not. Why would I ask her to match the shape if it was the same? When she finished re-filing to match hands, she got angry and told me I was wrong--that it was the right way in the first place. Then when she was checking me out, she told me that she would not service me again. If I wanted to return, I could come back as a walk in. I was dumbfounded. I have had my nails done for 20* years and have never been told such a thing. Shocked, I asked her again, "wait, did I hear you right--are you telling that I can't come back to see you?" She said no. Because I asked her to reshape 4 fingernails? I came to a new salon because the person I have gone to for more than one year had to cut her hours and doesn't have a flexible schedule--and this experience will make me figure it out to stay where I am. I was so insulted by Allie's behavior--how as the manager of a salon do you treat a new customer this way? I was not rude or demanding. We had a perfectly pleasant conversation until the end, especially when she had to rush because she was late. She even started to raise her voice when she told me that I was wrong-that she had the shape right in the first place. What?!! She told me that she won't see me again as I was checking out. She took my card and ran it. When I asked her about how to add a tip, she then told me that she only takes cash or Venmo for a tip. I asked for her Venmo because I believe in tipping well and she had worked hard. She opened her Venmo account on her phone, tossed her phone down in front of me and walked away. I was standing there in disbelief trying to get her Venmo info, almost in tears. Her phone screen locked and I just walked out. I will never set foot in this salon again. They take the necessary covid precautions with sanitizing, enforcing face masks, social distancing and even plexiglass dividers. It's never crowded and I love coming here. Allie is the best :) She takes her time and doesn't rush you and she does a thoroughly clean job. She's never cut me or left my nails lumpy or uneven. She's a great artist and I highly recommend. Had me take off my nails to do an ombré and claimed that was the only way to get it. They proceeded to not know how to do the ombré. I then had to change the design I wanted to an "easier" one and she couldn't do that one either. She then charged me an additional $5 for an express service even though there was no wait and not many customers at the time, along with an additional $10 for a full set that I didn't get. One thing I cannot stand is a bad set of nails and I'm happy to share that this place does share the same sentiments. About a week ago, I got almond-shaped acrylics with a bad ombré polish done at Fantasy Nails in Four Corners. (1st pic). This was the last straw with them. Today, I made an appointment to get these re-shaped/cut down and a polish change. What. A. Difference. Amazing precision, amazing customer service, super clean, super nice. I even treated myself to their One Nail Bar pedicure and the attention to detail was superb. I will definitely be coming here from now on. Reasonable prices, but be wary: they share a parking lot with Starbucks, Trader Joe's, and several other retailers with heavy traffic. I've been here twice and had two very different results. Both times I had powder put over my natural nails. The first time I went, my nails were absolutely perfect - the woman doing my nails took her time and was very meticulous in making sure they were perfect. I would have given her 10 stars. My first visit is the photo with light pink nails. This time around was different. The woman was very kind however she was not as meticulous as the other lady. My nails weren't shaped and now that I'm in the sun, I can see there are spots on my nails that don't have a clear coat over them and the edges of my nails near the nail bed are uneven. They look bad. From a distance you can't tell but if I take a picture of my nails or look at them closely, they're not great. This visit is the dark red nail color. Notice the blurred and bad edges, the nails are bumpy and not properly filed. Even though my two experiences were very different, I do recommend this salon with the right nail tech. They're clean, follow sanitizing protocols, and the staff are all very polite. There is also a wide range of polishes and designs to choose from with fair pricing. read more

My daughter and I had a wonderful experience at The One Nail Bar today. We read a previous bad review about Kai but that was not our experience -at all. Kai gave my daughter a wonderful pedicure. We both had great relaxing pedicures. Then I had a lovely gel manicure and my daughter got acrylic tips with gel and nail art. We both loved the service, the clean salon, and the finished product (especially appreciated the great nail shaping). We turned to each other at the end and said "We found our new nail place". This was momentous, since we haven't found a nail place that we both felt would be our "regular place" since we moved from Los Angeles to Silver Spring five years ago. In fact this is the first Yelp review I have written for a nail salon in Maryland. I recommend The One Nail Bar and we look forward to returning soon. read more

Today ViVi really showed her true colors. I've been a faithful client even to the point of waiting for her when she's been over 15 minutes late twice. Today I was late 15 minuets and she did not wait for me as I did when she was late. She took someone else in my place. And believe it or not I've NEVER been late for an appointment with Vi. I understand she needs to make money and more often than not they do have no shows. I'm not that person, I make it a habit to call if I can't keep my appointment to dignifie her with the respect she deserved. Obviously the respect goes one way. I will not give my hard earned money to anyone who can't treat me like I treat them. If that's how you treat your loyal customers how will you treat a new customer? This place has gone downhill since it opened. It is no longer clean and sanitary looking but instead resembles most other nail salons with piles of stuff and food everywhere. The quality of the basic manicure and pedicure has also been unreliable and often bad. I never fail to come home without a snagged nail or other blemish. They charge five dollars extra for a buff manicure but do a very poor job. The extras up the scale of pedicures are definitely not worth it and few of the technicians do anything resembling massage. The prices have also gone up. I have been offered a free drink maybe one out of 10 times and otherwise had to ask for a glass of water. DO NOT GO HERE. Been here multiple times and made excuses to try and rationalize the decent prices and atmosphere. If it's not the late start times, long waits, or the random uncharges it'll be your fingertip getting superglued and burnt. First time ever asking for chrome, I provided multiple picture examples and not even once did they glance at them. My tech burned my fingernail with old superglue and continuously mixed up the polishes. By the end I made due with what happened and still they offered no minimal discount for literally watching smoke come off my fingernail. This morning was my second attempt to schedule an appointment. I walked into the salon and was never acknowledged. After waiting about 5 minutes, I realized that this place didn't need my business. About four or five of the workers made eye contact with me but never moved from their workstation. They were " busy texting" on their cellphones. Customer service is the lifeline to any business and this place is below my standard.
