This was a particularly frustrating experience. You might notice that I've posted several reviews of this restaurant, as it is close to my house and each time I try something new I want to be sure everybody knows about it! This particular evening, we decided to swing by around 7pm. We live about a mile away so if there is a wait, grabbing a beer isn't a problem. Though over 3-4 years we have never experienced any significant wait. This particular evening, as we arrived, the hostess told us that there would be about a 30-minute wait (the lobby was empty) because they had several reservations coming in. I said "no problem" and headed up to the bar to grab drinks to bring back to my husband. Upon getting to the bar (this has never been said to me before) I was asked to leave. I was told that if you want a drink while waiting, you must ask the hostess. She will get said drink and you should not approach the bar if you don't have a table yet... So alas, I come back to the stand and ask the hostess for two drinks for the two of us as we have been told there would be a 30-minute wait because of reservations. At this point, we are no longer the only people in the very small waiting area, but now maybe 10 -12 total people who are waiting there now as 8 tables sit empty for reservations that haven't arrived. At one point, I was asked to move out of the way in the "lobby" so many times by servers that couldn't get past the people waiting for a table on their way to the patio, I asked if I could simply sit at a table that had been empty nearby for a reservation for over 15 minutes to "get out of the way" until they got there. The answer was of course, no. Needless to say, the most frustrating part of this was not being able to go near or ask for a drink at the bar. Until... I decided to just peak on Open Table to see when the next reservation was. Surprise! A time was open for the time that I was there. Literally, after I had been waiting for 15 minutes and told the wait was 30 minutes min, Open table had a reso sitting there for the time it literally was at the moment I was waiting staring at the empty tables being held. This was our "done with it" point. We left for the night. Every time I've brought it up since... nobody has wanted to deal with that situation or wanted to go back. read more

The One Sushi + is a Japanese sushi restaurant that opened at the Village Place Brookhaven mixed-use development in December 2012. This is the same development where restaurants such as Haven, Valenza, and Verde Taqueria are located. The One Sushi + is next door to Kaleidoscope Bistro & Pub. This is a trendy little sushi joint with a bit of Korean and Taiwanese fusion thrown in. Valet parking is available directly outside the restaurant, but self-parking is easy and free in the long parking lot in the back. You can book reservations on OpenTable. Do it and earn free dining points. The restaurant has an industrial, artsy theme. The sushi bar and its shelves of bottles are colorfully illuminated. The wall opposite features an impressive, giant painted mural. The long triangular shaped light fixtures look like art projects. There's a small covered and enclosed patio. TVs can be found both on the patio and at the bar. The atmosphere is generally loungy and chic, especially in the evenings when the interior is dimly lit. This is a decent sushi restaurant for both lovers of Americanized sushi rolls and more traditional nigiri (fish over rice) and sashimi (raw fish slices). The assortment of fish and seafood (if it's in stock) is respectable, the quality and freshness are good, and the execution and presentation are well done. There are over 20 different kinds of rolls, most priced in the $10-15 range each, with typically eight pieces per roll. Like other sushi restaurants, the rolls have quirky and gimmicky names such as OMG, The #Selfie, and Chanel Replica (perhaps attempts to playfully connect with their audience). There are over 20 different kinds of nigiri and sashimi sushi. The sushi bar carries several fish above the most common and basic sushi types, but nothing too rare or extraordinary either. Examples include hirame (fluke), hotate (scallop), saba (mackerel), and uni (sea urchin). Most of these run $7-9 for either two pieces of nigiri or three pieces of sashimi. The One Volcano roll (lump crab, cucumber, avocado, "seafood," spicy creamy sauce topping, bonito flakes) has an interesting presentation. The rolls are laid flat and stacked to form most of the "volcano's" shape. The "spicy creamy sauce" (maybe Sriracha mayo?) is sort of poured on top in a way to resemble lava flowing outward. The delicate, thinly shaved bonito fish flakes top it off. I think the bonito represents the explosions coming out of the volcano. The Gangnam Style roll is a Korean fusion sushi roll. Instead of fish, it's made with Korean BBQ beef short ribs (galbi), fried kimchi, scallions, wasabi peas, and "chojang" sauce. Chojang is short for gochujang, which is a common Korean condiment consisting mainly of fermented soybean paste. This roll is not bad. It's hard to go wrong with galbi. The chef even gives you a few leftover pieces of galbi, still on the bone, on the side. In the end, I prefer my sushi rolls and galbi served in the traditional ways, but the Gangnam Style roll is certainly a neat take on both cuisines. When it comes to sushi, I favor nigiri (and sashimi and chirashi). The One Sushi + offers nigiri and sashimi platters and chirashi sushi (a bowl of sushi rice topped with a variety of raw fish and other ingredients) for about $25-30 per order. I recommend going this more authentic route, unless of course you prefer rolls. For the best sushi dining experience, chef's choice omakase at the sushi bar is available too (for $65 per person). I've tried several different types of fish here and can't say I've had a bad thing. Everything is good to great, sufficiently fresh, and flavorful. I like how the menu lists the source country/region for each fish. Fish I've had include maguro (tuna, Hawaii), hamachi (yellowtail, Japan), sake (salmon, Scotland), shiro maguro (albacore tuna, Northeast Pacific), kanpachi (amberjack, Hawaii), madai (red snapper, Japan), suzuki (sea bass, Canada), toro (fatty tuna, Japan), king salmon, and white salmon. In most cases, the slices are buttery and delectable. The premium fatty tuna belly (toro) is listed at market price. When I tried it, it was $18 for two pieces of nigiri (or three pieces of sashimi). The chirashi sushi bowl is excellent! At $27, it's pricier than some other chirashi bowls around town, but the portion size is big and filling. I think it's worth it. The chirashi at The One Sushi + is served in a flat bowl (more like a plate) and comes with eight different kinds of fish (two thick, succulent slices of each kind) plus ikura (salmon roe) and some edible light garnishes that include tiny flowers. I believe the sushi rice is some sort of refined brown rice. It's not the standard white sushi rice. It seems to be nicely vinegared and quite appetizing. I approve. My fiancé is back in Atlanta for couple weeks so I was excited to revisit bookmarked spots in Atlanta and we decided to check this place out last weekend. We started off with the yellowtail jalapeño shots and the pork belly bun, along with an unfiltered sake. The shots were literally yellowtail slices in a balsamic sauce with sriracha and jalapeño slice in shot glasses, so you could take a shot of it but I avoided potential sodium overload by using a chopsticks. The sauce is amazing and honestly wish I had the guts to consume it like a shot! The pork belly bun was so soft but full of flavor. The spicy mayo? like sauce with the cilantro and crunch of the cucumber and radish topping all went well together. I wish we got more than one order to share! For sushi, we decided with the Lady in Red and the Toro on Fire roll. Both were sooooo good!!! Lady in Red was eel inside and on outside along with spicy tuna and cream cheese with jalapeño. Rich in flavor with a kick! The waiter told us the Toro on Fire is their popular roll so I was really excited about this selection. With spicy tuna, seared chutoro and tempura flakes, it had a nice crunch with lots of tuna (my favorite) along with sriracha, scallion and spicy aioli. I am a huge fan of The One Sushi +, it is on the expensive side but worth it in my opinion because of how fresh their ingredients are. If I am trying to save my coins I make sure to check them out during their happy hour. Their servers are attentive and accommodating to all requests. Their suggestions are also always spot on. They have creative and well-crafted cocktails and a nice selection of sake. My favorite appetizers are the pork belly buns ($11), the bang bang shrimp ($14), and the charred Brussel sprouts ($8). I have ordered the chicken fried rice ($13) in the past and would not recommend ordering that just based off of the price relative to the amount of meat that you receive in the dish. Definitely order the Chanel Replica roll if you go there, it is the freshest best-tasting roll I think I have ever had in Atlanta, the mango is different but works so well in the roll. The owners also own a few other restaurants in North Atlanta and Roswell (Ichiban Steak & Sushi off Windward Parkway and in the Avenues at Forsyth Cumming and also Monkey68 in Downtown Roswell), and if you have been to any of their other establishments, you would know that the sushi grade they serve is A+ The One Sushi+ is a great spot for a date night or a girls night out. They have creative and delicious sushi rolls, and their cocktails are always really good too. What's always nice about this place is that their service is always great and the owners do generally care about their customers. I can understand why some people might have had "bad" service, maybe because they do get busy. A lot of people like to come here and everything is very fast-paced. A group of 4 of us dined here on a Thursday evening. We were the first table to request to be seated outside on their neat patio and it was such an enjoyable experience. On this particular evening, Kaleidoscope also had a full patio and there was live music across the street. The menu here is a bit overwhelming! It took us a very long time to decide on our meals. My girlfriend and I started off with two specialty drinks--I tried the Puritan Lychee and she had the Lychee Margarita. I really enjoyed the Puritan Lychee. It was pretty strong with just the right amount of flavor and chunks of lychee in the drink--delish and a perfect patio drink! My girlfriend really enjoyed her Lychee Margarita as well. On to the food! We started off with the Yellowtail Jalapeno Shots based on the server's recommendation and boy, were they different and boy, were they delicious! In a creative shooter dish comes six shots, each with a slice of Yellowtail, cilantro, sriracha, radish, balsamic, honey yuzu, and a jalapeno. It definitely has a mild kick but is very enjoyable. I highly recommend trying these! For my main, I went all out and tried their most expensive, delectable roll, the U.N.: Lobster tempura. Spicy crab, spicy tuna, crispy onion, cucumber, seared rib eye steak, jalapeno, chili teriyaki, wasabi peas. It was incredibly delicious and all our food was presented so well. At $21, the U.N. is large enough for one person, definitely not two people, but the server advised against ordering anything else. Eight pieces in and I was full! I really love the creativity and energy One Sushi invested in developing their menu. Almost every item is served with a flair while still preserving the authenticity and pride the Japanese have in serving the freshest fish. Service here is also stellar. Our server came back to our table repeatedly and gave us plenty of time to decide on our meal. I especially loved his knowledge of the food and his passion in explaining so many menu items as well as offering us the best alternatives based off our preferences. One of the coolest Japanese fusion restaurants I've been to in Atlanta. I had low expectations since, well fusion doesn't usually work out for me. I was pleasantly surprised to discover otherwise. Parking: private lot, shared with a few other restaurants, which makes the parking VERY difficult. Valet would be easier, so take advantage if you don't want to wait for a spot or stalk leaving patrons. Interior: dim and sophisticated. Tables are all pretty uncomfortably close together, but if you don't have to get up to go to the bathroom often, it's not terrible. Full bar with various sake on almost an entire side of the restaurant. Bathrooms: A clean, single stall with some nice soap and lotion to use. Also provides small cups and mouthwash for your convenience! Food: The server explained that they get shipments of sashimi and fresh ingredients once a week, every Thursday. HOW CONVENIENT that we showed up on Thursday night!! They will then serve these specials everyday until they are sold out, so we got the freshest pick of the lot. The two specials were: King Salmon Tasting ($15) - 3 slices of sashimi and 2 nigiri. The server pushed that there was a lot of omega-3, which of course only convinced me more to order it. The oily salmon soaked onto your tongue and melted into your mouth. That is some damn good salmon. Tuna Tasting ($17) - I got a little lost in the explanation. But the server emphasized the bluefin and fatty tuna. There were 2 slices of each tuna sashimi, as well as a single nigiri of each. Very high quality, indeed! On top of these specials were the uni, which was also delivered in their weekly shipment. The uni comes in spoons or sashimi. Since were a party of 3, we ordered the sashimi, which comes in a portion of 3 pieces, versus the two spoons of uni. The uni was sweet and buttery. It's not the best I've had, but it's definitely up there in the ranks! We ordered a couple more rolls and a sashimi: Jalapeño Yellowtail Shots - tangy fresh deliciousness. Comes with six cute shots. Has a quick spicy kick and a sour taste that reminds me of ceviche. A fun must-order. UN (roll) - a pricier roll, and the server claimed it was overrated. Steak, crab, tuna and lobster all in one roll? Why not? The flavors were overwhelming, with the chili teriyaki and steak being the only flavors I could taste in the roll. Might as well have been the only ingredients... Chanel Replica - I love raw scallops. The fresh scallops were sweetened further by the mango. I loved this twist on the scallop sashimi in this roll. Another roll you must try. Overall, my only complaint was the rice. Sushi rice should always be perfectly soft and not overcooked. The rice we had was slightly hard and either undercooked or a day old... A little disappointed. Service: our server was super patient and candid with us, which I loved. We had a weird incident with someone who brought us our food (not our server, though). He set the sashimi tasting down on the table a little roughly, which caused some of the tuna sashimi to fall off its small radish tower. His only response was "oh. It fell" before he walked off. I guess we couldn't have expected him to fix it with his bare hands but it was such an awkward moment - plus it ruined my picture of it!!! The One Sushi+ exceeded my expectations. Summary: Disappointing Takeout We're still not comfortable dining indoors yet so it's been a lot of takeouts lately. Our normal go-to Sushi takeout place is Yokohama Sushi but since you have to call them (not on any of the apps) and sometimes they're too busy to pick up, we decided to see who was on Door Dash. Based on all the amazing reviews (and remembering this place was on my list pre-pandemic), we decided to give it a try. Pricier than other local sushi places i.e. more Brookhaven prices than say Buford Highway prices if that makes sense. We spent nearly $200 for a family of 4 and were left pretty hungry. I guess I didn't read the menu close enough but none of the specials or combo platters came with rice, salad or miso soup like every other sushi place? In fact we usually end up with so much soup, salad and miso I didn't even think to make sure the prices included them but they don't. As for the sushi/sashimi, it was fresh enough...but the part that really got us though was after opening the gazillion large styrofoam boxes (their packing left a lot to be desired), there was no wasabi, soy sauce, ginger...luckily we have soy sauce at home but sushi without wasabi just isn't the same... Anyways, we definitely won't do take-out from here again. May consider in-person dining post-pandemic but it definitely went down on our list of to-try restaurants. read more

I will start by saying I tried contacting the restaurant privately before leaving this review but did not hear back. I want to start by saying my husband and I have visited here before and had a great experience, from the service to the food. We were excited to return, unfortunately we did not have a positive experience whatsoever. The main issue is that we ordered a bottle of the cold sake that was brought to the table, opened and placed in a wine chiller. My husband and I took our first sip and it was room temperature bordering on warm. We told the waiter expecting him to offer a solution. Instead, he admitted the truck delivering the sake had come at 4pm that day, but said that since it had been opened he could not switch it out for a cold bottle of different beverage. I find that preposterous, how can you admit that you know the reason the product is messed up, but refuse to offer a solution. At this point we are still trying to be accommodating and agreed he could just bring some ice to put around the bottle in the wine chiller. Well, he comes back to the table, pours all of the ice in the bottom and is then surprised the bottle does not fit. We then try just placing a few ice cubes around the side of the bottle, but that does not fit either. By now I am getting frustrated because the bottle should have just been taken back in the first place. Finally, our waiter says he will bring us a shaker and ice so that we can chill the shots that way. What ?!?!? I do not want a shaker and I do not want watered down sake shots. We had already ordered soup and appetizers but decided to cut our losses and requested the check. Our waiter comes back with the check and tells us he asked the manager if he wanted to speak with us and he said no. Mind you, we did not even ask to speak with the manager so the fact that he is now coming to the table telling us that the manager does not want to speak with us is beyond rude. We had come here for a date night and by the time we left it had completely ruined the mood of the evening. I cannot even begin to understand this poor quality of service and lack of care for patrons of the establishment. Rather than putting this review on Yelp, I wanted to discuss this with someone directly because I am sure the owner of the restaurant would want to know what is going on. Found this place through Yelp and was happy with the service as well as the food. Tai was my server and he had different suggestions depending what I was in the mood for. He always made sure my water was filled. :) They have a happy hour selection on some of their appetizers, normal rolls as well as cocktails and wine. To start off I had the spiced grilled Brussels sprouts that were outstanding. The stuffed jalapeños were okay, but probably something I would not have again. I had the Toro on Fire (sushi roll) that had tuna and cucumber inside with tempura flakes inside as well as seared tuna on top. It makes my mouth water just remembering the taste. I definitely recommend that roll if you like tuna. The owner Tai (also name of server) came over to check on everything and was nice to recommend other restaurants since I was visiting for 2 weeks. This place definitely made an impression and would go back to try all their menu. Not only are the food intricate and easy on the eyes, it has awesome flavors. Tonight i got to try toro on fire, cucumber lollipop, edamame, asparagus fries, eggplant fries, Taiwanese chicken, korean bbq, greentea cheesecake, and miso brownie. Everything was delicious and the veggie fries were surprisingly addictive. Usually i hate eating fried foods, especially the usual tempera at japanese restaurants, but these were not soggy nor greasy. They were cooked perfectly with the right crunchiness. Sushi was good and too pretty to devour, but ultimately they ended up in my tummy. Not only are they superb on presentation, the rolls are unique and delectable. My only drawback was that i did not get to try more rolls but ill defintely make the next visit for this. Lastly, to end the night with a high note, the greentea cheesecake is a must. Not overly sugary or sweet, it ha s a perfect balance and consistency of a cheesecake and sort of a mousse. The miso fudge cake was sort of a miss, but thats just my personal thought. Just the word miso mentioned in a dessert gave a red light. You can definitely taste the miso and it was tad on the salty side. Regardless, they had much more variety of desserts to try next time. The first time we came I wast expecting authenticity. I just wanted a drink and something light to eat, but I have travelled the world even gone to Japan, and this place is the real thing. We can argue all day about whether vegetarian sushi can be called "authentic", but you can't argue with, is the delicious combination of subtle flavor and texture, the attention to the tiniest detail of the whole experience-that is what is Japanese about sushi & where authenticity was for me. Another disappointing dinner at Sushi One. We had come here a few months ago as our daughters who live in midtown love Sushi and Sashimi. The Sashimi was stale and we thought we would not come here again. We thought to give them a chance again recently. Unfortunately similar experience again. The yellowtail shots tasted stale. The Sashimi platter was stale as well as the sushi rolls. Only good was the tempura rolls but then why pay such a premium for tempura. We mentioned to our server when we sent the platter back. Very good sushi, fresh ingredients and just very good overall. We went right after work so it was pretty dead but the inside is very cute and well decorated. There's also an outside seating area. The sushi was pretty expensive I would think this restaurant is more of a three dollar sign than two but overall worth it. Also if you check in on yelp you get free saki! read more

I really enjoyed this place, not sure if it was the company or if it was the actual place. I hope I get the name of the food right, as my friend ordered most of the food for us. To drink I had a Georgia mule, for an appetizer we had the yellow tail jalapeno shots (delicious!!!!) For entree I had the one volcano sushi and my friend the haven sushi, both of them pretty tasty . Now let's talk about the dessert, I personally have an issue when I get mixed sweet and salty flavors, so I have to say I liked the dessert, but I wouldn't ordered again.
