What a great spot for a quick bite, fresh ingredients, friendly staff, good vibes. Pizza is always delicious. If having a night out, stop by, it's fast service, hot pizza and also at the bottom of an old Historic Building.

Good pizza! We came in around lunchtime on a weekday. Ordered a slice of cheese and sat down at the bench near the window. Good texture, good amount of cheese and the sauce had some kick! I like spice, so this was really good for me. The owner was friendly and helped a few other folks who came in behind us. I'd recommend giving The Onion a try if you are in the area.

I recently moved here from San Antonio and I've had some bad experiences with trying new food in Austin. This place has really captivated the whole idea of just a quick slice while tasting amazing!! I couldn't even get a picture before cause the pizza was that good, on my scale 8/10 and that's cause I'm more of a pan pizza guy. Now though the food was great the service is why I'm going to go back and keep going back. I had the awesome chance to talk to the owner when it wasn't busy and he was an awesome guy! This place is the reason I still believe in great service and hospitality out in the food industry, can't wait to have my next slice!

Doug is the pizza king, slinging delicious pizzas in that kitchen! We were walking down Brazos and 4th after a bar tour and really wanted some food to soak up some alcohol. Not just food, but something a bit greasy and delicious. My wife and I came across this pizza place called The Onion. It didn't look like much walking inside. It had a small standing area, small counter top, but a pretty large kitchen-like area. The smells of pizza cooking helped us make our decision to stay here and get a slice or two. Pepperoni, which is what we wanted, was of course no available at the time to buy and leave but they had just put one in the oven so we decided to wait. While serving others that came in, Doug was super friendly and got to know us a bit. He gave us some great tips about what to go check out during our time in Austin and explained a bit of the history behind The Onion. We finally got our pizza and ended up eating it there while still talking with Doug. This ended up being a really great stop! Come in here for a slice...or two...or three!

Don't judge! You know you want a slice.

Quick and dirty. When you're a few beers in and are looking for late night pizza, The Onion is a five 5. ("NO MAKE IT A SIX." Thanks, drunk Dan...) When you're sober and you're like "oh. Maybe I'll have a snack. There are many pizzas around but like Southwest, I choose to fly with you, Onion; The Onion is a sobering 2... maybe a 3. I don't know. The last few times I've been in I feel like I'm in a domestic abuse situation. I want to love you so bad but the pizza has been too dry (where's the sauce), and the cheese doesn't really melt nor is it crusty. On the bright side, the owner is super nice. He treats people well so I'll probably be back after a few Zimas.

Super friendly guy, excellent pizza, will be coming back. Prices were super reasonable too. A soda to go with the pizza was only a dollar.

Make note of their hours as well because they are closed in middle of day. 4-8pm I'm the afternoon does not give a big window to choose your dining time. But the restaurant checks all the boxes. Great ambience. Fun indoor and outdoor seating. Tasty food. Big outdoor space for little ones to play. Convenient location. Decent pricing. The salads are served on big trays which makes sharing easy (even when I didn't really want to share my yummy tossed salad with toasted garbanzo beans and Chunks of fresh mozzarella and a super yummy dressing. The pasta and pizza tasted really good. From an owner of a few pizza places in Houston, I was disappointed in the crispness of the dough. I don't care for pizza that can hold its shape when being held. But if I just told myself it was bread instead- I enjoyed it. It was really the pasta and salad for me. We didn't try too much because we were actually surprised it was open. Many friends mentioned the desserts were to die for. Even Guy on DDD mentioned the caramel rolls were what cinnamon rolls wish they could be. He also LOVED the pastrami sandwiches. So I'd i could do a 1-10 scale I'd give it a 9 for the extra work we had to put in to align with their limited open hours and for the soggy crust. But highest marks on the rest. I've spent my life chasing the perfect crust, comparing everything from the legendary pie shops in Manhattan to the pristine corner slices in Pittsburgh. I didn't think Austin could pull off truly authentic pizza. I was dead wrong. Baldinucci is absolute sorcery. The moment I took a bite of their Roman-style pizza, I was instantly thrown back to the tiny, narrow pizzerias I stumbled into in Italy. It has that exact, hyper-specific airy crunch that is so incredibly hard to replicate outside of Europe. The dough is clearly fermented with patience. It's light, shatteringly crisp on the bottom, and has those beautiful, irregular air pockets that give it a pillowy structure without ever feeling heavy. Let's talk about the sauce, because that's where most places fail. It isn't that sugary, paste-heavy stuff you find at standard joints. It is vibrant, bright, and tastes intensely of sun-ripened tomatoes and clean olive oil. It is remarkably fresco; striking that perfect balance where the acidity cuts through the richness of the cheese without overwhelming the palate. The vibe inside the West Lake spot is casual and unpretentious, but they take their craft seriously. Food service is streamlined and efficient; you order at the counter, and they pop the slices back into the oven so they land at your table screaming hot. The staff is genuinely proud of what they're slinging, and they should be. If you are an East Coast transplant drowning in a sea of mediocre pies, do yourself a favor and get over to West Lake. It's the real deal. PS: The gelato flavors are also sorcery. However, a review of their gelato is for another time. I must continue to savor the pie for now.

As for flavors, you really can't go wrong but the standouts for me were the Potato, Chicken Parm and Lasagna slices. They also serve calzones, New York-style pizza, gelato and wine, so there's truly something for everyone. The pizza is priced by the slice, which makes it easy to mix and match like I did, though you can also order a full pie. I will say this definitely isn't cheap pizza, but you're absolutely paying for quality ingredients and incredible flavor.
