    Pizza cheese and pepperoni

I recently moved here from San Antonio and I've had some bad experiences with trying new food in Austin. This place has really captivated the whole idea of just a quick slice while tasting amazing!! I couldn't even get a picture before cause the pizza was that good, on my scale 8/10 and that's cause I'm more of a pan pizza guy. Now though the food was great the service is why I'm going to go back and keep going back. I had the awesome chance to talk to the owner when it wasn't busy and he was an awesome guy! This place is the reason I still believe in great service and hospitality out in the food industry, can't wait to have my next slice!

Doug is the pizza king, slinging delicious pizzas in that kitchen! We were walking down Brazos and 4th after a bar tour and really wanted some food to soak up some alcohol. Not just food, but something a bit greasy and delicious. My wife and I came across this pizza place called The Onion. It didn't look like much walking inside. It had a small standing area, small counter top, but a pretty large kitchen-like area. The smells of pizza cooking helped us make our decision to stay here and get a slice or two. Pepperoni, which is what we wanted, was of course no available at the time to buy and leave but they had just put one in the oven so we decided to wait. While serving others that came in, Doug was super friendly and got to know us a bit. He gave us some great tips about what to go check out during our time in Austin and explained a bit of the history behind The Onion. We finally got our pizza and ended up eating it there while still talking with Doug. This ended up being a really great stop! Come in here for a slice...or two...or three!

Don't judge! You know you want a slice.

Quick and dirty. When you're a few beers in and are looking for late night pizza, The Onion is a five 5. ("NO MAKE IT A SIX." Thanks, drunk Dan...) When you're sober and you're like "oh. Maybe I'll have a snack. There are many pizzas around but like Southwest, I choose to fly with you, Onion; The Onion is a sobering 2... maybe a 3. I don't know. The last few times I've been in I feel like I'm in a domestic abuse situation. I want to love you so bad but the pizza has been too dry (where's the sauce), and the cheese doesn't really melt nor is it crusty. On the bright side, the owner is super nice. He treats people well so I'll probably be back after a few Zimas.

late night pizza - cant go wrong! thin and crispy! only thing is they dont regeat the slices properly or hot. pizza was tepid and cheese was cold. we reheated it at home - much better!

Probably my favorite pizza place in all of Austin. They're open late as well. Just make sure to order over the phone bc they're always so busy.

There's a line outside where you can place your order and a few tables outside to sit. On our visit it was pretty hot outside so we didn't spend too long outside eating. I did see a small indoor area but it looked pretty crowded so I'm not sure what the seating structure was like. We decided on a pepperoni and pepperoni + mushroom pizza slice. I had the pepperoni and mushroom slice and devoured it in a minute or less. It was just so good! I adored the thin slice and it was amazingly savory. The crust was also fantastic. They have crushed red pepper at the tables and you can grab a fresh Parmesan shaker from the area you place your order. I would love to come back here and maybe try a whole pizza just so we could have a few more slices! They had several more options if you order a whole pizza that looked absolutely delicious. The outdoor space is probably more fun on a cooler day but nice that they have it. Till next time!

When I came, there were 3 options: cheese, pepperoni, and margherita. I tried the cheese pizza and to be honest, I didn't think it was anything noteworthy. If you're craving pizza, this will definitely satisfy that craving and if you're in the area and are having the late night drunchies, I'm sure that this would really hit, but I've had better pizza elsewhere. Everything here is pretty self serve and you can seat yourself at any of the picnic tables in front of the stand. Service was friendly!

Overall solid dinner, nice packaging, and decent price for Austin. The great: Cannoli large, firm, but too hard of a shell, tasty chocolate chips on the ends, and fresh tasting stuffing - creamy and delicious. And, great value! The very good: Meatball. Nice size, pork and beef (I think), tasty red sauce. Quite Italian. Good value. The good, but: Chopped salad. Good size, a lot of meat, balsamic was tasty, good cheese, but not a legit chopped salad. Real chopped salad- go to Tony Cs. Pizza - Tasted fine, but too doughy for legit NY style pizza (and, I grew up in NY and get there 2-3x a year). Skimpy on the sausage, but excellent flavor/tasty. Would I order from here again. Probably not, as the non-pizza options are limited and the pizza was just okay.

We waited maybe 20 minutes to order then another 45 minutes for food, which wasn't that bad for a busy Friday night. We were crowded outside, and we didn't really have enough table or chair space. That's to be expected when we descended upon the restaurant with such a large group. For six people, we ordered three pizzas to share. We definitely could have shared with more people because we had some pizza left over. We got The Works, Shroomin' Goat, and Texas Chicken Ranch pizzas. The Texas Chicken Ranch was by far our favourite. It was really good, while the other two were alright. The crust was weirdly bubbly and amorphous looking. There was a lot of crust. The Works was okay. The sauce and meat weren't particularly tasty. The Shroomin' Goat was a vegetarian pizza with a lot of arugula, which is not my type of pizza, but our vegetarian friend said it was okay. Great vibes at Pinthouse overall though, and I have enjoyed their other pizzas in the past.

They have an indoor area where you can grab drinks but just pull up to the window and get what you want. What I really like about it is buying by the slice is about the same as if you would buy a whole pie, so it makes it easy to mix and match and try a bunch of uniquely topped pies. The slices are huge, so 2 is easily plenty. Arguably you can be fine with one. I highly recommend the cacio e pepe, a playful take on the classic Roman pasta, but you can think of it as a white pie with some tingling black pepper. Sausage pizza is also great, though a bit on the wetter side with all the honey. Plain pepperoni really highlights the expert simplicity of a classic pie - the crust really shines and the pepperoni is top tier. Cheese is fine. Stracciatella is kinda like a margherita slice with a thick dollop of fresh dairy, but it adds a bit too much water to the pie to stay crisp. Corn pizza was the summer special and while it was interestingly spicy and sweet from the corn, would say it was far and away the least favorite from our crew. Make sure you grab some hot honey and ranch for the crust! Also don't sleep on the caesar salad. It is very well dressed and has a nice combo of crunch from the shallots and freshness from the lettuce. You won't notice the miso but it adds umami punch (instead of the anchovies that normally are used presuambly).
